A great mix of Elizabethan recipes translated for the modern home kitchen, information about food and cooking in Elizabethan England, and little bits and pieces from Shakespeare's plays. I had this from the library so did not try to cook any of these dishes due to lack of time, but I enjoyed reading about them and getting both a feel for what Elizabethan food was really like (much of it sweet and full of fruit and spices), and how one might replicate it today. I appreciated that Lorwin quoted the original recipe each time before presenting her interpretation of it; it meant I could compare what she does with my understanding of the original and in doing so learn more. V ery enjoyable, and I would certainly pick up my own copy if I came across it at a used bookstore and give some of the recipes a try.

There wasn't a single recipe in this book that I wanted to try but it was certainly an interesting read.
