Rate this book
Though plagued with memories of the convict ship, Reward, and the dreadful Dorchester prison, Hannah comes to terms with her new life in Van Diemen's Land. Counting herself lucky to be chosen from the two-hundred women and children herded off the rotting ship and onto the quayside to become housekeeper to Jim Barry, owner of a forest plantation.
Falling in love with her keeper, Hannah holds the secret close to her heart. Jim Barry is still mourning his young wife and child, Hannah is afraid he will replace her with another prisoner and send her to a prison workshop.
A major change in circumstances and Hannah can marry the man she loves. Giving up all hope of returning to Hawks Rise, her son Joshua, and beloved companion, Seth.
An unexpected inheritance comes her way and Hannah faces a different future and a chance to fulfil an ambition. There are serious obstacles ahead and she must fight the community if she is to see her dream become a reality.

Loved it

This is the second book that I really enjoyed.the year is 1840, hannah on the ship(reward) is moored into Hobart is chosen by jim barry out of all the prisoner's and hannah goes to settle into pine house, knowing that her son Joshua is safe and happy back at hawk rise Hannah has no wish to return, she is now a free woman to marry Jim. And so we see this story continues it is a wonderful story, Hannah goes through so much in her life, as a very strong willed woman. I just loved everything about this story hopefully will be more of Hannah to come.

Hannah’s Inheritance

Another terrific book by Jean Mead. Thoroughly enjoyed the ups & down, the twists and turns of the story. The plight of Hannah was fascinating, the way women were treated and regarded in those years was horrendous. The book is definitely worth reading. Hats off to Jean Mead for a great book.
