This set of eight novellas has a common theme related to Autumn where the heroes and heroines find love, despite their trials and tribulations along the way. I focused below on one of my favorites!
*** Reviewing “THE FORTUNE TELLER” by Isabella Thorne *** Addie Walker was wiping down a table at the Bell and Whistle in Upper Nettlefold as she listened to the ghost story told by one of the customers. That was the best part of working here; she loved hearing the stories. As she swept the cinders from the hearth, the door suddenly opened and leaves and ashes scattered. A tall, pale, dark-haired stranger with black eyes entered as everyone stared at him. He joined the others at the table, and she gave him the stew that was to be her dinner. When the cask of ale ran dry, she had to find a boy to bring up another since the men showed no signs of leaving soon.
The next morning, the stranger was waiting for Addie. He introduced himself as Sir Phineas Ainsworth, and told her Mrs. Truscott said she would lead him to the blacksmith shop. She pointed it out, and was flustered by his still wanting her to actually walk him there. But she had to buy vegetables for the stew and had no time to waste. His parting comment startled her when he said, “I am most enchanted by your proximity to the spirit realm.” He told her he knew she yearned to know if there was more to this world than could be seen with the eyes. As a chill went up her spine, he told her he was a fortune teller heading for London.
Having heard about the practice of carving a face upon a gourd and putting a candle inside to ward off an evil spirit, Addie bought a small gourd and carved the face of Sir Ainsworth. He noticed and commented that it was interesting that the artist seemed to have his face on her mind when she carved it, bringing an embarrassed blush to Addie who raced to the kitchen.
Thinking it would be a good prank to let Sir Ainsworth meet a real spirit in the dark, she enlisted Trudy’s help and hid herself – along with a large white sheet -- up in a tree. A fog came up and Trudy begged her to give up and return to the tavern; when she would not, Trudy apologized and left. At that moment, he walked under the tree and, as she started in a low voice to say it was the ghosts, the tree branch she was on snapped, leaving her dangling from the sheet in front of Sir Ainsworth! It was not one of her finer moments!
When the fair ended, there was to be a ball and Sir Ainsworth asked Addie to assist him as he told fortunes there, since she would be masked and could fit in. She was angered that he would ask her – and how would she ever fit in with that class of people? But she was unprepared to hear him say that he knew she was the missing daughter of the Baronet of Glastonbury, Miss Constance Adelaide Waltham, who had gone into hiding to avoid a horrible scandal about why she went missing. What was her secret? What would she do? How would this change her life?
This was a wonderful set, well-developed story lines and realistic characters. And the book I reviewed above was extraordinarily well written and fun! These stories were very enjoyable and I highly recommend this collection.

Another awesome box set, from some of my favourite authors as well as some soon to be favourites. This collection is filled with fast paced, heartwarming events with some twists and surprises along the way. Each book showcased realistic characters, with well-developed storylines which kept my interest from start to finish. Whilst this collection is based around one theme, each story is unique in its own way. I highly recommend this collection to all Regency lovers.
A wonderful collection for hours of reading enjoyment
I picked and chose a couple of the stories in this collection. I like the fact that I may go back at anytime and read one of two more stories. Very clean and enjoyable regency stories with very different storylines. This would make a nice gift for a reader this Christmas.
A beautiful bookset with sweet, strong characters and surprises. These stories are well developed and surprising. They'll kept you reading until the end. I recommend this book set to all that love regency.
I received a free book from One Regency Autumn Collection and voluntarily chose to review it. Both main characters have issues. This is a clean romance that I enjoyed.
