Magic Mama Headaches and Heartburn

Rate this book
Clare Willoughby is a far cry from SuperMum.
Her kids’ lunchboxes contain convenience food, her bills almost never get paid on time and the concept of regular housework is one from times BC (Before Children).
Clare’s efforts to do the best by her family while keeping her job and some vague semblance of a social life have conspired to bring her down. Add a self-imposed magic ban since having children and she has become an anxious mess mum.
The only real surprise is that it took over seven years to get there.
‘Magic Mama – Headaches and Heartburn’ is a modern fairytale with a mother, instead of a princess, needing to be saved from a black dog rather than a fire-breathing dragon.
In a way, she thinks she’d prefer the dragon.

Trigger warning - While there is no violence in this book, the main character, Clare, suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, which are described in detail from a first person POV.

Author Note - This book deals with the big issue of anxiety in our society, with a focus on what Mums are currently facing; working, running the house and keeping everyone alive and fed. I view this as a melting pot for mental health issues and wanted to bring a story to life representing that we're all in the same boat, sinking at varying rates, but there are ways that you can keep yourself afloat. I hope the book lives up to the vision I had for it, and does the issue justice. K E Fraser

Oh K.E.Fraser what an honest and heartfelt novel. As a mother and wife of a 3, 6 and 42 year old, boy did it speak to me! Only minutes before reading the last chapter I fished a strawberry that was more mould than strawberry out of my son’s lunchbox and fed my daughter toast for dinner. Magic Mama is a touching, honest and at times very funny journey into the heart, soul and head of a mother of two young children and the strain that holding a household together can have on a marriage. As Claire Willoughby tries to keep all the balls of family life in the air (without the aid of her secret magical abilities) it is clear that soon something is gonna give. Claire soon finds herself at battle with her toughest critic of all, herself. What follows is a heartfelt exploration into anxiety and motherhood and the journey back to self-care and balance. A must read for all Hot-Mess Mamas, and indeed parents, who have ever doubted that they are really cut out for adulting and child-rearing.

She is not the prefect mother and she struggles a lot with of the normal things a mother must do. She suffers from anxious mother and she has banned herself from magic since the children came along. What is she going to do to cope better? What help will she get
