A nightmarish Halloween threat. A vampire hunter on red alert. Will a high school starlet end up the death of the party?
Lucy has never recovered from her grandfather's grisly death. The vampire hunter has vowed to keep her powers under wraps and stop all nighttime patrolling. But when a death on her college campus arouses her suspicions, she's forced to return to the hunt.
Grace's heart is torn in two. She loves both her best friend and the boy her BFF can't stop thinking about. When she's forced to come clean on Halloween night, risking a friendship pales in comparison to real vampires crashing the party…
With the innocent Grace the primary target, Lucy has one chance to neutralize the threat before a powerful new vampire emerges. Can the hunter save the girl without meeting a bloodcurdling end?

Hi! I’m Betsy Flak, author of The Eversfield Academy Vampire Hunters book series.
Hmm, what to say about myself? Well, I’m reader too, so let’s start there.
I love fantasy books with a love story. The more magic, the more action, the more heart-stopping moments that make me go “Squeeeee!” the better.
I love books with twists and turns, especially when I can only see those twists and turns coming upon a reread (and when I do see those twists and turns coming upon a reread).
And I’m a sucker for forbidden love. Something about those characters fighting their way to each other over and over (and over and over) keeps me turning the pages.
So, that’s what I put into my own books. Lots of drama and action and magic and forbidden love that’s more an epic love story than strict romance (and only sweet romance here).
And of course, I love plotting those twists and turns, then adding a little trail of breadcrumbs throughout my books (and my exclusive VIP-reader shorts!) hinting at what’s to come for those reading closely.
So, that’s who I am as a reader and a writer, but what about as a person?
Well, I’m a mom to one dog and one human child. I’m a wife to one devoted, incredibly supportive husband.
And I’m a roller derby player. Which helps with writing those hunter-versus-vampire action scenes. ;)
In my free time (after all that’s taken care of, so yeah, there’s not a ton of it), I love curling up on the couch with the family and watching TV or reading a good book. Usually fantasy on both counts and occasionally sci-fi. I also love a good dramedy on TV.
Oh and I love singing to my favorite songs at the top of my lungs, almost always off-key.
Currently, I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I’ve also lived in or near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Boulder, Colorado; and Los Angeles, California. Someday, I hope to try my hand at living outside the US!
The Impossible Creation follows a range of supernatural creatures, beginning with a pair of vampires as they stalk their latest prey. Duncan and Adara made for an odd couple and didn't appear to share the same goals and ideals as we may expect those of the same minority to.
Out two main heroines are Lucy, a warrior and university student, and Grace, a young high-school student that has secretly been dating her best friend's crush. I felt that Grace's character had a lot more personality than Lucy. You could feel every one of Grace's emotions as they developed, but Lucy remained quite difficult to read.
While some events felt a bit disjointed from each other, rest assured that this book comes to a surprising and dramatic conclusion that makes this read worth the wait.
I would rate this 3.5 stars. Recommended for fans of Young Adult Fantasy and Paranormal novels.
What a great way to kick off the start of the series! This book brings you into a fantasy world, while still maintaining a sense of normalcy in the surroundings.
The book tells the story of three intertwined plots, but you don't realize it until midway through how they are connected. And it's not what you think (which is kind of the best part)! The plots are both sophisticated, yet relatable - good for any age reader.
I definitely suggest reading this prequel before the series as it introduces you to many of the "supernatural" creations by the author.
As an adult who reads too many YA novels, I was very excited to try out a new series from a brand new author - and the book did not disappoint! If you're feeling "vampire fatigue" from all the contributions to this genre recently, I strongly suggest you give this one a try. It follows the lives of both the vampires and the vampire-hunters, which creates an interesting situation where you find yourself sympathizing with, and even cheering for, people who are trying to kill each other.
Another plus - the book is very well-written. The story pulled me in right from the start, and I never lost focus due to the writing style. This is uncommon in the world of YA, and a lot of books written for this age group sacrifice writing style, which is a huge detriment to young adults (and the many adults who read this genre).
To give a brief synopsis, the book follows the lives of 3 very different characters – Duncan (a vampire), Lucy (a vampire hunter), and a totally normal teenager named Grace. Each character has a separate story that develops independently, and each story is extremely engaging. While Duncan and Lucy struggle with a world of kill or be killed, Grace stresses about grades, friends and boys. It isn’t until almost the end that you learn how the stories are related - and the climax had me totally engrossed, unable to stop reading.
Finally, a sure sign of a good book – I like to read before bed, and reading this book made me stay up past my bedtime on multiple occasions.
The book left me hungry for more and I can’t wait to read the next books in the series!!
Also, although I myself am an adult, I would definitely recommend this book for readers as young as pre-teens. It has no more violence or "scariness" than the Harry Potter books, and honestly it is so refreshing to see quality writing for this age group. Just a note for parents out there!
TALK ABOUT TWO STEPPING!!! Hey guys, if you're looking for tale thats well balanced, kickass, thrilling and smooth flowing, you just stepped off in it. You have it all in this amazing new start. Flak is definitely in a league of her own. Take a deep breath, grab a seat and get comfy cause this bad boy won't let you move from its pages. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistic with a broad range of personalities that really brings this tale into sharp focus. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with nerve racking, nailbiting, adrenaline pumping action that keeps you on a razors edge of suspense and danger. With the clock ticking and a life on the line, there's no room for second guessing. Flak did a phenomenal job bringing this read to life. Great job Flak, thanks for sharing this fantastic read with us.

Very well written, fasted paced and great characters. Easy read. I really enjoyed what I read, felt like I was right there in story, and hard to put down. I love books you can get lost in.
This is an excellent prequel to the series and added some great information. We have 3 different groups of people vying for attention in the story. I felt like there were a few loose ends that I am sure we will see more about in a later story. And that ending well … the ending ended with a big BOOM! I am not sure which cover is the current one but I LOVE the cover where she is in black standing in front of the fire!
I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
