A goddess with a penthouse apartment, a long-running career, fans across the globe… and nothing real to hold onto.
Her recording contract is up, and when an ugly breakup drags Nat into the tabloids, she decides the universe is telling her to take a break from LA. She’s ready to build something of her own – something real – so she heads back to her Ohio hometown to scout a local band in the hopes of starting a production company.
Instead of an answer to her problems, Nat finds Christy there – a former lover Nat left behind when she got her big break.
Once a passionate athlete and a shy but vibrant girl, Christy is a shadow of her former self after a painful divorce ruined the plans she’d made for her life, took away her dream home and turned her world upside down.
And despite Nat’s enthusiasm, she’s not too happy to see the woman who broke her heart fifteen years ago.
Things in Ohio aren’t looking much better than LA, but Nat knows that the universe brought her back into Christy’s world for a reason and she’s determined to make amends while she chases her own dreams.
I write stories that explore the thrills – and challenges – of falling in love as a woman-loving woman, including the bestselling Lakeside Hospital medical romance series and Rainbow Award honorable mention The Rules of Love.
My books are for you if you’re a fan of contemporary romance, if you love strong women who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable, and if you like a little heat with your sapphic love stories.

I really enjoy Malone's books. They have just enough drama, a lot of love and romance, and a good story. I enjoyed this read about a pop star who wants change and an account who doesnt. It a reuniting, second chance at love story and while I enjoyed I wanted more between the characters...maybe a little more drama and angst. And while it has an HEA if felt too easy. Maybe this wkll turn intl a series and we can see the relationship and the new career paths unfold. Fans of Cara Malone's work will enjoy this easy read. Plus its a kU book.
3.5* rounded to 4*. Nice, well-written story. I'd read reviews so I knew going in that this romance wasn't very angsty. Which I liked, even if it makes for a slightly dull read from time to time. But sometimes, watching people fall in love and be happy without too much noise around them is kind of nice. So if you're looking for a sweet story about sweet people, try When Stars Align.
This book was exactly what I needed. A warm and fuzzy second chance romance. No drama, no silly games, no angst and no misunderstandings. Just warm fuzzy feelings 😊
Another great read from Cara Malone! A sweet second chance romance between Nat, a spontaneous rock goddess, and Christy, a heartbroken swim coach trying to save her marriage. When the universe brings them together while Nat is trying to launch her own record label, it doesn't take long for them both to fall hard for each other... Again.
Cara Malone really frustrates me: she is such a good writer, the words flow & for paragraphs at a time there is real depth, then she seems to get bored and pushes us on - and her books are short and leave me flutteringly dis-satisfied for what she does write is excellent - bit like a Nouvelle Cuisine meal. Give me more!
This is a really good story .Nice characters you like for the get go. Nice background about the music industry. I would recommend this book for a quiet night. Always enjoy this author book thank u very much.
I like Cara's writing style and her stories. Enthralling, always fluid and well paced. Since I saw the title of this one I felt immediately drawn to read. And I'm glad I got the opportunity to do so.
The story is about rock star Nate Butler, who left everything and everyone behind 15 years ago when her career got to a stellar stage. But after too many road trips, tabloids and bad relationships, she's tired of it all and wants something on her own and that takes her to her original roots. Wanting her music to be hers to decide, to transmit the real feelings and not what the label decides just for money. She goes back to the town she left behind all those years ago and tries to look for that something. But what she found was her old love, Christy who is recovering from a bad divorce and at the moment doesn't take well seeing the woman who broke her heart aback then. We'll get to see what the universe has planned for them.
I liked the book very much, as well as the characters. Was easy to feel mostly Christy's pain and desperation, not ready to open her eyes and accept the reality. Was interesting to see Nat struggle, despite having a dream job and life, fighting for something real. I like to believe in fate and that things happen for a reason in the right time. So I really enjoyed this beautiful second chance romance and how the characters evolved through the story.
For any person looking for a heartwarming, delightful story and a beautiful romance. This is one to read undoubtedly. I'd like to recommend it.
I love Cara Malone's books because it's always a story that makes you feel happy and good, it's a light read and she doesn't do over the top drama or unnecesary drama, it's always something real and hard for the couple of characters and how they work through it to be more as a couple and people.
Nat was that immature person that thought it was too early to settle after she met and fell in love with Christy, leaving her behind making a decision for her.
I loved Christy's character development, because she was the one that need it to work some issues and insecurities and how Nat helped her do that at some degree. And I also loved how Nat tried to fixed her mistakes with Christy and how she made everything in her power to come back to her and cut ties with everything holding her back to take her destiny in her own hands.
Overall, it's a great book, can't go wrong with a Cara Malone book and I can't wait for her next work.
I read pretty much everything Cara Malone puts out, and I think this is my favorite, so far. I didn't think it would be at first, because Christy was unwilling to let go of her ex-wife, despite acknowledging that they really weren't that compatible. Thankfully, she got over that thinking pretty early on in the book, because I don't think I would have kept reading otherwise. Christy, Nat, and Erica were the most well-developed characters, and they came across as very relatable. The theme of going for your dreams, even when it's scary, was well-written and timely. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys lesfic. This book was provided to me at no charge. My review is voluntarily given.
This was a really nice and sweet second chance romance book. I loved Nat and Christy as a couple. Nat a big time rock star, is coming home to Ohio, to look at a band which will help start her next career choice. What she didn’t count on was to see Christy her ex sort of, having a drink in the bar the group was playing at, looking sullen and sad. Kat goes over to her, even though she is disguised, to just get a feel of her. But things go wrong when Christy recognizes her and then lashes into her for leaving her fifteen years earlier. This book weaves in and out of their lives just to point them in the right direction to be together. Loved It! Loved this writer!!
“You fought so hard for that relationship, but the problem was that you were the only one fighting. One person can’t fix a broken marriage all by herself.”
“Happiness isn’t something you earn – it’s just something you accept when it finds you.” + • + • + • +
A unique storyline made this a very entertaining book. Very enjoyable with nice flow, interesting narrative & relatable characters made it an easy read.
Its a very cute, entertaining book but everything seems to happen in like warp speed... Would've loved if the author developed & expounded on the characters & the narrative more. But it was still an enjoyable read.
Christy is an athletic accountant and former ranked swimmer, living in her hometown working for her father. Natalie is a few years older than Christy, and had spent a summer in Christy’s hometown before Nat had moved to Los Angeles to a 15 year music career that was successful world wide. They had been in love that summer and neither of them forgot it. The story is about how they reconnected and how it changed their lives. The ebook was a little short but I liked it. I recommend it for a quick read.
Nat, the rock star, sees her ex Christy while scouting a local band for her new dream--having her own music label. Christy's not in a good place and isn't excited about seeing Nat and tells her so (ouch!). The story's really about Nat, not wanting the shallow glitz, glamour, & touring anymore, and Christy, needing to let go of her painful past, trying to move through their own stuff to get together - again. I thought it was funny that at 39 Nat was considered 'old'; a dinosaur. A good read to wind down a busy week.
15 years ago they had a summer fling. Fast forward to present and they find each other at a bar when one of them was feeling the effects of being divorced. One was there scouting out a new band and sees a lonely and sad woman. The mystery depends when one of them suggested they try to figure out why and should they reconnect? Heartbreak again? Or Love again? Enjoy!
This is a very well written girl-gets-girl story by an author whose characters draw you into their lives and love. Second chances are few and far in between, and when Nat and Christy run into each other fifteen years after a brief and steamy summer of love, they are both different people than before. Life is about to change for both women. Get on board by putting this book on your must read list.
YES! +F/F Second Chance Romance! Nat and Christy hadn't seen each other in 15 years after their summer romance! +Nat is an "aging" rock star, but she wants out! I liked how it was on her terms and not because of something cliche like too much partying, getting into trouble, etc. +Christy finally follows her dreams after putting everybody else first for so long.
NO! -No mention of Christy's dream job at the end?
This was a good story although a little tame in the plot. I found it good though, because one of the main characters found herself floundering in her career of touring and wanted a change, even though, she was successful still after ten plus years. She happened upon an old girlfriend while doing things for her career change, and alas, the story takes wings. The ending was good. If you like stories about rock/pop stars doing their thing and then deciding to do other things, you like this. I did.
Not five stars, but a very solid and enjoyable romance nevertheless. I can't say I liked the character of Christy all that much, because I generally don't like it when people unnecessarily complicate their own lives by being self-sacrificing/self-sabotaging, but on the other hand it's what made her seem more realistic. So I don't hold it against the book. After all, I don't like most people I meet and it doesn't mean they are bad. It just mean I can be a judgemental arse sometimes...
When you read a book you never know if it is going to a brilliant, good , boring etc. This was a love story with humour ,sadness, a!nd more but it was a great story from the start right to the end. Cara Malone wrote a good book worth a readind. Try it you might just enjoy it.
This was a quick read. There's very little character development and neither MC is particularly likable or unlikeable. They're just there, with a regret or two in life and a goal or two in the present. I didn't think there was much sexual or friend chemistry between them and didn't find either one endearing or annoying. Very vanilla book.
Nat Butler had followed her dreams to LA and became a Rock Goddess. Chrissy was the girl she left without ever contacting her again. Now Nat is back and Chrissy is broken after a divorce. Will they ever be in each other’s orbit again? Great story and author. Recommend.
One the best lesbian romance novels, but Cara Malone is a very talented writer. What happens when you found the one but you're afraid and decide to follow another dream. It takes awhile to realise who you really want to be with. A good read and there is an HEA
This is a fun read. Ms. Malone creates characters that I’d like to hang out with. They are smart, warm, witty and talented. Oh, and they are passionate too, about their lives and about each other.
I loved the story and basically read it nonstop. I loved second chances and it felt like this is a great one. All about the stars aligning to put these two women back together again.
This sweet second chance romance between a rock goddess searching for something more in life and the girl whose heart she broke fifteen years earlier has well developed characters with great chemistry and a lot of wonderful moments.
Books where music plays a role as well as the main characters always makes me enjoy a book more. I have read quite a few books by Cara and so far this one is my favorite. This book was a very easy read. The story and characters kept me interested from beginning to end.
