PORTRAIT OF A DEAD GUY "Laugh-out-loud funny and as Southern as sweet tea and cheese grits." In Halo, Georgia, folks know Cherry Tucker as big in mouth, small in stature, and able to sketch a portrait faster than kudzu climbs telephone poles -- but commissions are scarce. When the well-heeled Branson family wants to memorialize their murdered son in a coffin portrait, Cherry scrambles to win their patronage from her small town rival. As the clock ticks toward the deadline, Cherry faces more trouble than just a controversial subject. Between ex-boyfriends, her flaky family, an illegal gambling ring, and outwitting a killer on a spree, Cherry find herself painted into a corner she'll be lucky to survive.
STILL LIFE IN BRUNSWICK STEW "Delightfully Southern, Surprisingly Edgy, and Deliciously Unpredictable." Cherry Tucker’s in a stew. Art commissions dried up after her nemesis became president of the County Arts Council. Desperate and broke, Cherry and her friend, Eloise, spend a sultry summer weekend hawking their art at the Sidewinder Annual Brunswick Stew Cook-Off. When a bad case of food poisoning breaks out and Eloise dies, the police brush off her death as accidental. However, Cherry suspects someone spiked the stew and killed her friend. As Cherry calls on cook-off competitors, bitter rivals, and crooked judges, the police get steamed while the killer prepares to cook Cherry’s goose.
HIJACK IN ABSTRACT “A rambunctious mystery as Southern as chess pie and every bit as delectable.” Cherry’s jamming gears between trailer parks, Atlanta mansions, and trucker bars searching for the hijacker who left a widow and orphan destitute. While she seeks to help the misfortunate and save her local reputation, Cherry’s hammer down attitude has her facing the headlights of an oncoming killer.

Potrait of a Dead Guy is a surprising and delightful cozy-ish mystery. While this book meets the criteria of a cozy mystery, Ms. Reinhart puts a whole new face on genre, and contemporary cozies have become one of my new favorites. Her main character is a goodhearted, smart mouthed, kick-*** artist who just draws trouble like honey draws bees. The author is an artist with words, drawing characters with actions and word choice more than description. I swear I have met some of these people! When a town lowlife from a wealthy family is murdered, financial desperation leads Cherry Tucker to via for the commission to paint his portrait, one that isn't quit what she expects. His stepmother wants a picture of him in his coffin. The man's stepbrother returns to town after years in the army which might not matters except that Cherry has always been drawn to him and she hates that attraction. She wants to be the one in charge in any relationship and he is not that kind of a guy. The towns ability to turn almost anything into a scandal puts her into the limelight as a bad guy, so Cherry feels that she has to clear up the murder to clear her reputation as the incidences seem to tie closer and closer to the murder. .Still Life in Brunswick Stew: Cherry Tucker is hilarious and one hundred percent for real. Even the locals who don't turn their noses up at her family have to shake their heads over Cherry's antic. Humor and heart balance the many bodies that fall at her feet, almost literally. Part avenging angel and part bulldozer, with a little artistic flake mixed in, this Southern cutie stand for her friends and for what is right no matter what she faces. Naivety and more courage than sense sometimes get her in trouble, but she is a little like her granddad's ram, she just keeps hitting until she wins. Who would expect a stew cookoff to turn into a murder? I bounced back and forth among the suspect just like Cherry. Her great heart sure shines though as does her terrible taste in clothes! I adore Cherry but this time I wanted to kick Luke and well did he deserve it. Hijacked in Abstract: Sassy, hilarious, with a heart of gold and all of her taste in her paintings, that is Cherry Tucker. The lovable main character in Larissa Reinhart's delightful Southern Cozy Mystery series tries so hard to "rise above her raisin'" to fit better into the small town where she grew up so she can make a living with her art. Most of the community is fine with her blinged-out Walmart sundresses and flip flops but her archnemesis knows how to manipulate community feelings and has taken on the task of chasing Cherry out of town as her raison d'etre. Murder, two ex-boyfriends, an overfull house and a guilty conscience complicate Cherry's attempts to focus on her art but nothing slows that girl down with it comes to helping those who need help.
Very entertaining, sometimes confusing considering the number of characters. Cherry is a lovely person with a quirky personality that drives the other characters crazy.
Cherry has guts but I am not sure I like any of the men in her life. I like Todd the best to be honest, but I don't want her with him. I like Max second because he does care and unlike Luke, looks out for her. Just not sure they would work. Luke is the most unworthy in my opinion. Sorry all but a man who acts ashamed of her nor listens when she says his step cousin is out to get her and does NOTHING to aid her is not worthy of her. Period. As for Cherry, she is a bit much. Too nosy and she also needs to be more careful. The fact that she is not dead is a miracle. I like that she cares but she definitely finds trouble.
