Maio de 68: Explicado àqueles que não viveram

Rate this book

This little book usefully breaks down the whole May 68 thing into bite-sized chunks for people like me whose idea of the movement is limited to a vague mental image of Parisian students chucking cobblestones at the po-po. Rotman avoids the misty-eyed vibes of many a nostalgic soixante-huitard and offers a pretty cogent analysis of the impact of the events of 1968 on modern France.

Very informative on the social, cultural and political crises of the Spring of 1968. The author provides a view of the situation in France but also ties in international events that were also at the heart of the students protests in France.

I knew nothing about the 1968 revolution and this was a good introduction. Thought it was vey strange they didn’t mention the ex colonies in Africa though. Seemed important.
