It has been my goal for the past few months to seek out more books that would help me grow in my faith, so when I saw this particular book, I jumped at it thinking: “this is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for!” And boy was I right!

My fiance and I had been trying to do a Bible study together over Facetime while he was stationed in North Carolina, but it was hard to find one that was a quick read but also went into deeper discussions to help us grow. So when we found Core 52, we decided to give it a shot, and it is so worth it!

The book is designed to focus on one topic a week (hence the 52 per year) so the longest part is probably reading the essay on day one (right at about 15-20 minutes if you read it aloud like I did). From there, you are challenged to memorize a scripture verse (2 verses if you take part in the “overachiever” challenges), answer questions that the author presents but also to develop your own questions, and read different passages that reflect the topic that you’re studying. If a particular topic catches your attention and you want to go deeper into that topic, the author also provides additional reading resources that you can use to study further, which I certainly took advantage of a few times.

From week one, my fiance and I were all-in as we discussed things that we had never thought about before, we texted each other during the day to encourage each other to memorize the verses, and for the first time in a while, we actually looked forward to reading something every single night.

Though we aren’t even close to finishing the book yet (because of my reviewing deadline of only 30 days since receiving the book and I didn’t want to speed through it to review it in time), I can easily say that Core 52 has been the breakthrough in Bible study that my fiance and I both needed. Though you’re not pushed to agree with everything the author writes, you are encouraged to think beyond just what you’ve been taught in church, or grew up learning, to develop your faith in a such a new and vigorous way.

I easily give Core 52 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for both new and experienced Christians, youth groups and adult studies, and single studies or group studies. I truly believe everyone will find something from Core 52!

I received this book from the author for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.

Perhaps you want to know the Bible but reading it seems intimidating. Maybe you know that reading the Bible is good for you and helps in personal transformation but have no idea where to begin. Maybe you know the Bible contains valuable truths but don't attend a church so do not hear sermons.

Moore has created a book covering the 52 major teachings of the Bible, each chapter taking about fifteen minutes. Reading through the book will give you a good representation of the teachings of the entire Bible. Each chapter contains a summary of the key points contained within it and suggested activities for five days. Day 1 is to read the essay. Day 2 gives a verse to memorize. Day 3 suggests another Bible passage to read about the chapter topic. Day 4 provides some verses upon which to meditate. Day 5 contains a prayer or a journal prompt. A book is also suggested for further reading.

This is a good book to use as a devotional for a year. It takes just fifteen minutes a day, five days a week. At the end of the year, you will know the vast majority of the truths contained in the Bible and taught in churches.

I appreciated most of Moore's essays. I found it surprising that Moore has a chapter on the incarnation yet mentions nothing about the miraculous birth of Jesus or that Mary was a virgin. I was disappointed while Moore writes, “very smart and good people differ” on election, he only presented his own view of free will. (161) I was also disappointed in the discussion of predestination. Moore says predestination is to a task only, not a destiny. (165) I was pleased with his essay on eternal security, explaining both views on that subject.

This is a book that will give you a good overview of the major ideas in the Bible. You'll need to have your own Bible as the actual passages are not provided in the text.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

This book is not just about building your Bible IQ in a year like it says on the cover, but it also provides insights that as a Christian made reading the Bible interesting and it got me reading more verses, chapters and looking into the context of scenarios written.
Thanks Netgalley for granting me a digital copy of this book. It's a must-read for anyone looking to explore the Bible and increase their knowledge.

Core52 is a new book and online resource available from pastor and teacher Mark Moore. This book is "a Fifteen-Minutes Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year." Each of the 52 chapters focuses on a key verse and doctrine from the Bible. Each chapter focuses on an essay that provides an introduction to the verse or concept. After each essay, a This Week checklist appears which provides the daily assignments for the week. Day 1 is to read the essay. Day 2 is to memorize the verse of the week. Day 3 indicates several Bible chapters to read. Day 4 suggests several passages for meditation and day 5 provides an activity to complete. Moore also provides several additional options including the Overachiever Challenge which suggests another memory verse and a suggested book to read to learn more about the topic.

As Dr. Mark Moore currently serves as teaching pastor at Christ's Church of the Valley in Peoria, Arizona and previously taught at Ozark Christian College each essay is very thorough but is designed for individuals who do not have a Bible background. As Core52 is not a "through the Bible" reading plan, Moore is able to draw from the entirety of scripture to explore each topic. As such, although readers will not have read the entire Bible when they finish Core52, they will have a very thorough understanding of the entire Bible and it's content. Individuals who truly utilize the activities for all 5 days of each week will go beyond mere reading of scripture to truly knowing and applying it.

The combination of a book and online resources including an app provides an excellent resources that can be utilized in numerous ways. Individuals are certainly encouraged to read the book for their own spiritual growth. While reading the book, I frequently found myself thinking a discussion guide would be quite handy. I was delighted to find that a discussion guide is available on the accompanying website which makes Core52 an excellent resource for a small group or Sunday School class to study. The online app also includes a video essays for each week and other resources. Ministers will find a wealth of material to use for preaching as well. The combined use of Core52 for preaching and small groups would provide a dynamic opportunity for spiritual growth in a congregation. I highly recommend that ministers or small group leaders who are seeking material for groups that begin in the fall or January consider this resource.

Core 52 by Mark E. Moore is a unique way to increase your Biblical I.Q. in just 52 simple lessons. One lesson per week. I have always wanted a way to make myself learn more about the Bible. I think I know a lot about the Bible, but I can always learn more about this everlasting Book. First, Moore writes a essay to give reader something to think about before diving into the actual Bible verses. I think the concept is wonderful and great for Bible learners who want to grow without spending a lot of time stuck in a book or have too little time in their world to focus on a devotional. I enjoyed a number of the lessons, but I can't wait to spend more time with this book and see what else I can learn.

I received a complimentary copy of Core 52 written by Mark E. Moore from Waterbrook-Multnomah Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

Core 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year by [Moore, Mark E.]I love finding books that can help me to find a new or different way to look at the Bible. Core 52: A fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year is that book. The format of the Bible Study keeps me going. There is an essay centered around a key verse. Then there is also scripture to memorize or read, a challenge for the overachiever and suggestions for books which fit the week's theme. This book started with The Creation and moved on to themes that include prophesy, The Holy Spirit, grace and heaven along with others.

I enjoyed taking my time with the essay at the beginning of the week and then they idea that we can meditate on this essay and the verse in different ways throughout the rest of the week. I admit I did not read the book in the way suggested because I could not wait to share this book, in a review, with others. However, it has also inspired my husband to use the book in their Wednesday Bible Study.

I believe this book will help others to increase their IQ in Biblical ways.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Waterbrook and Multnomah in return for an honest review.

What a journey it has been to venture through this book with an amazing group of ladies. We chose to do a few chapters at a time vs 52 consecutive weeks, and that was clearly the right choice for us. Each chapter is stand-alone, and can be read/discussed at various levels of depth. I would encourage the use of the 5-day plan found with each chapter; it makes for a fuller experience and understanding. Although our group found some chapters "not helpful," overall this is a great resource for those interested in learning more about the Holy Bible and our loving God.

I really loved this book and read it as a devotion through 2020 - much needed! I learned new things and new practices (meditating on God's word and how to do it!). It challenged me to memorize 52 scriptures - still working on this! I recommend to anyone who likes having an outline to follow each week to keep them in God's word!

I decided to listen to this while getting ready for work in the mornings. I found I began to look forward to this each day. Sadly, this time around I did not follow up with reading of the scripture goals for each day. Doesn’t mean I didn’t hear those messages! Now though, after enjoying the audio , I’m going to start over and follow up with the actual study. This was just what I needed.

A very good introduction to 52 key themes or topics found in the Bible. The chapters are brief, don't expect deep exegesis of the Biblical texts. Each chapter does suggest further reading and offers practical activities to enrich your study. If you are looking for a book to help you understand the Bible a bit better or if you want a book to use in a small group study or Sunday School class this would be a very good choice.

Core 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year by author Mark E. Moore is a useful tool for anyone wanting to delve deeper into studying the Bible. It has a remarkable 15 minute daily lesson on popular, key scripture. Everything is covered from Creation to Heaven!

In this easy to follow guide the daily lesson includes an essay about a theme found in the Bible, verses to memorize, scripture to read, an "overachiever challenge,” along with a book suggestion that goes with the theme for the week. Some of the topics were prayer, grace, creation, prophesy, the Holy Spirit, heaven, among many others. I found the lessons kept my interest, gave me a fresh or newer perspective on some things, and enhanced my Bible study time. It increased my hunger for deeper study of the Word.

If you have ever wanted a book to assist with Bible reading and study at home, this is it. I loved the concept, lessons, and everything about it. The author has done a n exemplary job in his research, notes, planning, organizing, and writing this God glorifying book. Whether you are a seasoned Bible reader or new fledgling just beginning, you will glean much from this spirit filled book.

Some of the lessons were easier for me than others and the time flew by. Others I needed to slow down and let the information sink in. I had to ponder about what I had read. Don’t rush through the studies with a 15 minute timer. If you need more time, then slow down and let the words slowly flow from the pages.

This will be a staple in my home library and a gift giving idea for many years. It will be a perfect Bible Study for the Small Group I keep wanting to have even though it is for individuals. My dog was the recipient of many comments on this book as was my cat. It has the type of lesson you want to share.

I highly, most highly, recommend this fabulous study tool to everyone. It is in one word - amazing. The rating I give this is a high 5 stars out of 5. A copy was provided by the publisher but I was under no obligation to provide a review.

In "Core 52", Mark E. Moore takes readers through a 52 week, 15 minute a day, Bible reading and study for the purpose of mastering the 52 most important verses in the Bible.  If you want to know the Bible better, Pastor Moore offers a way to build Bible knowledge and Christian worldview as well as creating a hunger to read the whole Bible.

Each week, you follow a schedule of reading, memorizing, meditating and performing an application task.  Also included is an overachiever challenge and bonus reads for those who want to go further in their study.

You will learn about creation, your true identity, covenant, finding happiness, prophecy, the greatest commandment and many other topics covered in scripture.  Although I am not a fan of highlighting the "meat" of the scripture, Pastor Moore does a great job presenting the material in a way that makes you want to read more.

"Core 52" is a great way to increase your understanding of key Bible theology. It will also help you read the rest of the Bible with greater clarity and help you apply what you read.

Solid Bible Insights in Small Doses

In CORE 52, Pastor Mark E. Moore examines 52 key Bible passages and concepts. As he writes in the introduction, “Lay leaders must take responsibility for bringing biblical truths to their networks at work, at home and in the community. That’s the purpose of this book. It’s not designed to make you smart; it’s designed to make you effective.” (Page 1-2)

With 52 readings, each one has a five day plan. With 15 minutes, you can increase your Bible knowledge. I’ve been reading the Bible cover to cover in my devotions for many years. I enjoyed the depth yet straight-forward information in CORE 52. I highly recommend this book.

The concept of building your Bible IQ and spending 15 minutes in the Word is valuable; unfortunately, Core 52 is not the book to help new Christians build strong biblical knowledge. Many of Moore's theological points don't line up with scripture and are contrary to the Holy Spirit's position written through the Apostle Paul in New Testament Books. There is also a strong misogynistic viewpoint, blaming all the woes of the world upon Eve alone. If you're looking to build your understanding of accurate biblical knowledge, this isn't the book for you.

A few years ago I was teaching a Life Group and made a comment like "and you all know what David did to Goliath". Half of the group didn't know. Not only were the stories foreign to them but the concepts they taught were not know either.

I was given an ebook of "Core 52" by Mark E. Moore. This book takes the 52 weeks of the year and breaks up what the author considered as the key 52 discussions of the church. I must admit, at first glance I was distracted by his introduction. For one it almost seemed like he was saying "Don't read the Bible, just read my simple little devotion and you'll be okay". I then felt like he was saying that not everyone needed to fellowship in a church thus the larger need for this book. I THOUGHT THAT AT FIRST GLANCE. I WAS WRONG.

I place those last lines in bold because if not you might miss them. My assumption, as a pastor and leader who wants to ensure my people understand the Bible, read the Bible and engage together the living word of God, is the same passion this author has.

Each week you will read for about 15 min's on day one. This reading will engage a Core topic and leave you with a few Key Points. Day two challenges you to memorize a verse that associates and strengthens the key points. Day three you will engage in another reading of scripture. This verse or group of verses will again strengthen the Key Points. Day four then challenges you to spend time in just a couple verses that again tie to the weeks Key Points. And finally day 5 leaves you with one simple question to journal around.

Thats really it. 15 min's or less a day for 52 weeks will help you grow in your knowledge of God and even challenge you to engage in community.

Now for those overachievers there are also two additional challenges each week. 1 is another passage to memorize and the second is a "Bonus Reading" that one can find in your local library or on Amazon. This is for those who want to engage more than just 15 min's a day, and want to read a book on the key points.

As I read through the first couple months worth of readings, memorizing etc. I instantly could see applying this to a life group, a discipleship group, new believers, group, accountability group, or even an entire church. The concept is simple yet very in depth and challenging.

I have to say, Core 52 blew away my expectations. I am looking forward to ordering print copies for my teens, and myself and to engage this together with them. 52 weeks to a deeper walk with Christ. Whose in?

Pastor and Bible teacher, Mark Moore, has written a great tool for all Christians, new and mature. Core 52 is a year-long guide to the Bible. It enables a new Christian to get a good grasp and overview of the Bible and the mature Christian to grow deeper in their understanding of the Bible. For all Christians it is a one-stop-shop for memorizing key Scripture passages and a practical daily devotional.

Core 52 is divided into, you guessed it, 52 weeks. Each week starts out with a question such as Why am I here or Who do you say Jesus is or How can I reduce worry? Great questions! Then Moore proceeds to answer that week's question with solid Biblical essay (teaching), about 5-6 pages long. He ends each essay with several Key Points to summarize it and help the reader remember it.

Day 2 of each week is memorizing a Bible verse that is a core text for that week's topic. Day 3 is reading another passage from the Bible that helps illustrate that week's text. Day 4 is meditating on (thinking about) 3 more Bible passages that connect to the first. Day 5 is a call to action, a step to take to put that week's lesson into action. Finally, Pastor Mark gives an "Overachiever Challenge" for those who want to take it even further, with an additional Scripture to memorize and a "Bonus Read" in the form of helpful book to read by another author. His intent is that each day would take about 15 minutes.

Each lesson builds on the previous and takes the reader all the way through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. If he or she is faithful to complete the entire year, they would have a great overview of the Scriptures and a wonderful framework for understanding God's Word. I obviously did not go through every lesson yet, but as I skimmed through the book and read several of them, I especially enjoyed "Election and Predestination", "Baptism" and "Overwhelming Worry".

I received an uncorrected proof of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Core 52 is a wonderful guide to learn more about God's Word, the Bible. The author, Mark E. Moore is a teaching pastor in Phoenix, AZ and has been a professor at several Christian colleges and universities, as well as being the author and co-author of many books. In Core 52 readers will find a well-organized plan to, as the title suggests, build your Bible IQ. I liked the easy to understand language and how the author has laid out the information in a 52-week structure to guide the reader into further understanding of a number of subjects related to the Scriptures. With a suggested time frame of fifteen minutes a day, each week's subject begins with a several page essay and key points, and then a guide to follow during the week. Readers will learn and build their Bible IQ about subjects such as Creation, Our True Identity, The Holy Spirit, Morality, Money, Knowing God's Will, and Heaven. Through the week readers are then encouraged to memorize, read, and meditate on specific scriptures, and then a suggestion is given to make application of that week's lesson. The author also includes something he calls "Overachiever Challenge" and a Bonus Read, that suggests a book to read that is related to the subject of the week. One of the weeks I found especially encouraging is the one on Freedom as Moore reminds readers that freedom begins with Christ's work on the cross to forgive sin and then freedom is lived out as we live by the Spirit rather than our natural instincts and the recognition of who we are as sons of God. This book is a great resource for one's personal library (the church library too) and to give as a gift.

Do you ever wish you knew more about the Bible? Can you explain why covenant is important not only for the Jews but for Christians? Why do we have baptism? What really happened at creation and what will heaven be like?

In Core 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year, author Mark E. Moore tackles these questions and more, providing what amounts to a 52-week course on Christian discipleship. The book starts at the very beginning of the Old Testament and continues all the way through the end of Revelation, covering so many topics in between, like: holiness; the kingdom of God; atonement; money; grace; worry; and so much more.

Each chapter begins with a question (e.g., How should I pray? How can I experience freedom? Is there proof that Jesus is the Messiah promised by God?), followed by an essay raising and answering that question. (It's often personally challenging, as well!) The chapters include 5 days' worth of reading and study, with recommended Scriptures and other learning activity ideas listed. So by the end of the week, the reader will have explored a question, looked at what the Bible says about it in more than one location, and pursued an activity connected to those.

This really is like a course on the Christian life. New Christians will learn a lot, but more seasoned believers will be equally as challenged. This is a great way to delve into and really learn a lot about the Christian faith.

I obviously did not use this as a weekly Bible study supplement :) I just read through the essays in order to review, but I do like the format.

This book helps you dive into main doctrines of the Christian faith, memorize verses, and spend time in the Word. A lot of devotionals (and that's kind of what this is) don't emphasize getting into the Word itself.

As far as the essays go, I was impressed at the level of neutrality Moore was able to maintain. There was something early on that had me thinking, "okay, this guy is totally Calvinistic" and when I got to the chapter on predestination, I thought, "here we go". Moor tackles some pretty controversial doctrines like salvation/election/predestination, baptism, communion (to name a few); things that have two camps, each saying "I am right!!!". I don't always hold the same beliefs he does, but what I so appreciated was how he treated the varying views with respect. Sometimes you could tell which side he held, but he didn't claim that his view was "right" or "better" and I thought that was so amazing. I really appreciated it.

My one "issue" was that he mentioned in several essays the "curse" on humans. I challenge you to go read Genesis 3 and see what is cursed. Only two things were cursed. We were punished as a consequence of our sin.

I think this book can be a great guide to getting deeper into your Bible and could be a nice gift for high schoolers or college students because of its structured layout.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and a favorable review was not required.

This book is set up for you to spend 15 minutes a day, five days a week, for a year, in order to increase your Bible IQ. There are small assignments for each day that include things to read, memorize, or meditate on. There are bonus book recommendations if you want to learn more about a topic.
The author feels that if you’re confident in your Bible knowledge, you’ll be more apt to share or engage others with it. This book can definitely help with that. This is not a typical walk-through-the-Bible approach. It goes more topically and connections with other areas of the Bible are interwoven to show how it all works together. For instance, when talking about the beatitudes in Matthew, the author gives references to where those same principles are seen in other parts of Scripture. I appreciated that.
This book isn’t just Bible study. Along with the Scriptural passages, there is an essay with practical application. For example, Moore talks about grit being the “ability to stick with a difficult task not for weeks or months but for years. Grit empowers you to live life ‘like it’s a marathon, not a sprint (location 5175).’” He then talks about how to gain grit. As I said, it’s a different approach to increasing Bible IQ. It’s very thought provoking. While it certainly doesn’t cover everything in the Bible, it could definitely make one more confident that they understand what the Bible is about.
Thank you to WaterBrook for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is an excellent resource to use for memorizing new Scripture weekly, and for putting it into practical use. Ranging from topics like Creation, Jesus and Moses, Covenants, Communion, Baptism, Leadership, Racism, Resurrection, and more... there are answers to many of the questions people ask about Christian faith. We know that various denominations interpret some things differently than others, but this book does not appear to sway the reader to a particular denominational belief but explains what God's Word says while including diverse viewpoints to give a deeper understanding.

Each of the 52 chapters provides a verse to go with the topic along with several pages of in-depth study as well as sharing the key points. For those who want to pursue the subject further, there are 5-day plans with additional info. Still want more? Check out the Overachiever Challenge! Finally, if the reader still wants to dig deeper, Moore gives you a Bonus Read suggestion of another book source on the particular topic.

Basically, you can put in as little or as much as you wish each week, but at the end of a year you will be more knowledgable about Scripture for your own personal growth or to share with others who ask about your faith. I definitely recommend it for your personal library as a study resource.

As part of the Waterbrook Launch Team, I received a copy of this book at no cost to myself for review purposes. I am not required to write a positive review but asked if I will give my honest opinion.

In the introduction to this book author Mark E. Moore tells us that eighty percent of people who attend church desire to know the Bible better and that sixty percent who aren't connected with any church also want to be better educated in the Bible. Core 52 is certainly a great place to start because Moore has devised a plan that will help us build our Bible IQ in one year. Each week he shares specific Bible scripture, an essay to go with it, and tips to help you further your understanding of that scripture; I especially like that he shares Key Points and an outline titled This Week that will help in achieving your goal. In one year, by devoting fifteen minutes a day, five days a week, to this structured plan, we can gain a greater understanding of God's Word.

Some weeks the topics are devoted to Bible history and the events that are the basis of Chrisitanity, such as the Creation, The Fall, The Crucifixion, and The Resurrection, and other weeks the focus is on Christian concepts such as Love, Worship, Grace, and Humility. Every topic is pertitent to Christian living and each week is enlightening.

I recommend Core 52 to anyone who wants to understand God's Word better. It doesn't matter if you fall in the eighty percent who attend church regularly or the sixty percent who don't---if you want to know The Holy Bible better, you will truly benefit from Core 52!

This is an excellent Bible study guide. It is written in an easy manner. It is broken into 52 weeks with each subdivided into 5 days. Do not feel overwhelmed when reading the entire essay on the first day. The subsequent days involve memorizing a verse, reading a chapter, meditating on verses and reading another related but shorter section of the Bible.

The author makes the reading interesting. Some days, I wanted to keep reading beyond what was suggested. As an example, when discussing Jesus and Moses as being similar characteristics as Rabbis viewed Moses as the model for the future Messiah. He states:

To compare any Jew to the founder of the nation was an outrageous claim. Such a bold claim is better demonstrated than merely stated. Hence, most of the comparisons of Jesus to Moses in the New Testament are illusions rather than assertions. Even so, the sheer volume offers a compelling case that Jesus fulfilled this messianic prophecy.

If you are looking for a non-workbook study, this is one of my favorites. I try to consistently do Bible studies each morning. I was only able to work through a few months before this review but am anxious to continue on my journey.

Growing up Catholic, I went to church every Saturday and listened closely. I was confirmed and felt I had a strong belief. However, I always felt inadequate reading the Bible or talking to people who always seemed to be able to quote scripture flawlessly. The title alone of this book intrigued me, but after diving in, it was SO much more than I had ever hoped for. Mark Moore created a series of 52 questions, and it is designed to be read in 15 minutes a day. Each week starts with an essay and then there are related scriptures to be read the rest of the week. I found it very easy to read, and I could feel m,y knowledge growing and my understanding of Christian theology becoming more solid. One of the things I have had the hardest time with since I converted to United Methodist is the idea of praying out loud. That is so hard for me to do. I particularly enjoyed Question 20 on prayer. It broke down not only we pray, but how to pray. Praying isn't a litany of requests but instead it is a communication with God and all that He has given us. I would highly recommend this book. Ir is an easy read with a powerful message that all of us need to hear! I received a complimentary copy of the book from Waterbrook Publishers and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Core 52 is for spiritual health what CrossFit is for physical fitness. In just fifteen minutes a day, you can master the fifty-two most important verses in the Bible. Most of us want to know the Bible better, but few reach our goal, often because we’re too busy or we don’t know where to start. Core 52 removes both barriers, offering a commonsense solution that fits into our busy lives. Mark E. Moore mentions that eighty percent of people of people who attend church desire to know the Bible better and that sixty percent who aren’t connected with church also want to be better educated in the Bible.

Some of the topics are devoted to Bible history and the events such as the Creation, The Fall, The Crucifixion, and The Resurrection, and other topics focused is concepts such as Love, Worship, Grace, and Humility. With 52 readings, each one has a five-day plan. With 15 minutes, you can increase your Bible knowledge.

I recommend Core 52 to anyone who desires to better understand God’s word. Core 52 challenges me to remember memory verses and practical ways to put what I have learned into practice. There is an optional “Overachiever Challenge” which offers me a chance to memorize the top 100 Bible verses. Core 52 is a way to build your Bible IQ and Christian worldview.

The title reminded me of some of those exercise regimes out there. You know the kind that's a pack of 8-10 DVDs, each designed to make strengthen your core. Well this book is kinda like that, but for the heart, soul and mind. 52 truths in the Bible. 52 weeks to read, study and really go deep into God's Word. It's quick reading. I can totally handle that! One chapter a week? It part contains a short essay, a Bible verse to memorize, a Bible story, other verses that relate to that topic and ways to put it into practice. There's even a section for individuals, like my mom, who are considered overachievers. I have found the more I study the Word, the better prepared I am for what life throws at me. And there are times that life seems to just keep throwing and throwing without a break. I haven't even got it has bad as others, and yet I still complain. I think this book makes a good weekly devotional for the individual as well as a study group. I plan to share this with a few teachers and the Pastor. These are basic truths, ones we've been taught in Sunday School as I've grown up in the church. If you're looking to strengthen your knowledge, grab a copy of Core 52. I received a complimentary copy from Waterbrook. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

To help strengthen your spiritual core

My rating is 4.5 stars

Pastor Mark E. Moore wrote Core 52 as a way for everyday Christians to learn the Bible through daily readings, memorization of Scripture, and prayer. He selected what he considers the most important teachings of the Bible and has organized them into a collection of essays designed to be read one per week. One day a week is dedicated to reading the essay, the next to memorizing scripture, then short Bible readings and practical application.

I like the approach used here. Geared to assist busy people willing to carve out a few minutes a day makes this goal very attainable. The essays are engaging, easy to read, and are consistent with Biblical teaching.

Christians who do not have a solid foundation for what they believe or why they believe it can benefit from going through Core 52. It is also good for those who need a refresher on the basic tenets of the Christian faith and for those who are simply curious about Christianity.

A particular line from the introduction of this book seemed to jump out at me.

“There’s a reason so many people want to know the Bible better: they know the Bible will make them better.”

This is precisely why I wanted to read Core 52, because in doing so, I gain better knowledge of my Bible that ultimately results in a better me.

Spending 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week, reading the provided questions and essay answers in this book, most certainly helps me know and understand the Bible better.

Two aspects of each chapter that I find particularly valuable are the “Key Points” and “This Week” sections.
• Key Points: help me comprehend what I’ve read
• This Week: provides a visual checklist of the weekly tasks
Memorization verses and additional reading suggestions are also included at the end of each chapter.

I really like that this book (and in turn—the Bible) is broken down into easy fifteen-minute breakdowns of the most influential core texts of the Bible.
