An unusual plot that ends satisfactorily and let’s you know that it’s not the series end. Plot is straight forward with enough twists to make any fan happy. The narrator is just right.
Brian Drake – Steve Dane Series Bk 3 – Live to Kill – Review 8/21/21 – Read 8/13/21
Finding out the truth hurts, but it will hurt the guilty one even more, maybe permanently!
Recap of the past: Ex-Marine Steve Dane, working for the CIA was burned in a helicopter crash that also severely burned his friend, Len Lukavina. After recovering, Len stayed with the CIA, but Dane formed a team called the 30-30 Battalion. Later a South American job went south and left him with a diamond mine that set him up for life. When he could not clear his father’s name after his suicide, Steve ran from his past. On another mercenary job, he met the love of his life, Nina Talikova and now they live large, working only when they want to but always there to help others. Now life is bearable just being together.
Two men in their early 60’s arrive at the San Remo International Airport; both had an agenda to accomplish while they were there. They were retired CIA men but still operated their side business and it was that business that required their attention now. The third member of their little gentlemen’s club was dying, and the associates all needed to decide what to do about him. Of course, the club was not strictly legal and in fact; was very illegal but it was their safe retirement plan, designed to keep them in the style they had become accustomed to. All it took was a little job, maybe kill someone, or do a little fixing here or there to make sure things ran smoothly. Now at this point how would these same men meet up with Steve Dane or what would Steve’s dad have anything to do with that meeting?
Join Steve and Nina as they cope with the truth of his father’s death and how it ties to other corrupt CIA agents…
What did I like? This was certainly an emotional read that hit me right in the middle of my heart. When you have lived for years not knowing and then to find out how close you were to the situation could be almost unbearable. I respect how the author handled the turmoil that it caused both Steve and Nina. I am not sure I would have been able to handle it at all!!!
What will you like? As I just said this was most certainly an emotional read but also it is filled with intense action, mystery, intrigue, criminals, corruption, gangsters, a touch of humor, romance, and revenge! Brian has given us one of the most intense and emotional reads so far and done it with style and grace. His characters take the action by the bull horns and give us they're all. The storyline is beautifully written and edited with plenty of details and descriptions to bring it all to life. Don’t miss this exceptional read in the Steve Dane Series, “Live to Kill” available NOW!!!
Live To Kill is a great addition to the Steve Dane thrillers by Brian Drake
OK, here is the cast of characters
• Steve Dane & Nina Talikova, his girlfriend and partner • Five CIA agents: Len Lukavina, Perry Royce, George DeRocca, Dan Gallagher, and Carlton Figg (Director of Counter Intelligence) • President-For-Life Diego Marco of the Central American country of San Remo • Cyrus Lassen, a criminal mastermind • Gino Mogliano, a Washington D.C. mafia crime boss • Hal Miller, assassin-for-hire • President of the U.S. Cross, and longtime friend of Steve Dane
The story line
Steve had been haunted for years over two personal experiences: the suicide of his father, and his involvement with a helicopter flight that was shot down. He still has scars from the fire resulting from that crash.
Brian Drake weaves the story with these characters while Steve and Nina try to solve these two mysteries. In the mean time, the two of them are evading a disparate number of people that are trying to stop them from doing so.
You can guarantee excitement and numerous gun battles in a thrilling story from start to finish.
And then the first story line comes to a conclusion. Steve Dane finds out who was responsible for killing and framing his father. Another very fast paced thrill ride from the US to the jungles of South America, back to the US and to the Alps for the showdown. Couldn't put that down, like the first two. To learn about Nina's past it seems we have to wait til next summer. For now, if you like action thrillers, just get the first 3 books. You won't regret it.
I do not do reviews normally but I have read each book in this series so far and I enjoyed each book but I can't get over how Professional men can use automatic weapons and miss their targets so often of always get their weapon knocked out of their hand I guess that's what keeps the suspension going...blonski148@aol.com
A fast moving, at times gruesome, but very interesting read. If you like plenty of gun fights, this is definitely the right book for you. Will look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Another good addition to a great little series. I am looking forward to reading the third volume and I hope Brian Drake brings the Rogue Gentlemen back for more excitement, action, and intrigue.
