It all sounded very straightforward... Get a safe degree and a steady job at a big company and you will be granted stability, a ladder to climb, and a path for all your dreams to come true. Except layoffs. Except stagnation and politics. Except a completely upended economy, and suddenly the path ahead looks rockier than you expected. Then a different dream calls... "quit your boring cubicle job and join a startup!"
Professionally Awesome is the story of a young mechanical engineer who sets out to forge that new path. Nothing will deter them... not shady interviews, nor weeks spent crawling around in a toxic pilot facility; not sword-wielding zombies or the pouring sleet. Not even a broken arm can slow them down!
Start up life! Definitely educational, but hooboy maybe not an activity to repeat. Angela's surprise at "just send us a receipt and we'll reimburse you" and less-than-OSHA (or Canadian equivalent)-friendly safety situations are super resonant to what I experienced. More slice-of-life weekly comics from Angela Melick ~2012-2013ish.
I'd forgotten about the broken wrist situation, and am delighted to see other artists I follow (Kory Bing! Zach Weinersmith!) step in while Angela recovered.
This'll be a carbon copy for each volume: Nerd-ery, college life, engineering, and then later on work life. Pulled from the Wasted Talent webcomic (also done by Angela Melick). Loved this comic, and I'm not even so familiar with the engineering side, they're all written well enough in a way that I can still follow along just fine and still understand the funny. All the extras and notes are pretty fun too, and give a little more insight/context than the original webcomic had.
