I often say that books give children the opportunity to practice who they want to be in the world, and today's recommended series gives them not only numerous opportunities to practice, but also a chance to "live" the effects of their choices! These books are picture book versions of those Choose Your Own Adventure books (which I LOVED as a child), and are also perfect for fostering positive character traits in your children. I'm talking about "The Power to Choose" series by Ganit and Adir Levy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Each book in the "Power to Choose" series features a child who has the power to choose both his actions and how his day turns out. Every few pages brings the reader to a choice the character has to make, with an option we know will turn out well and an option that the character may not want to make. Each choice then has logically expected results (for example, when Danny makes a choice to play cooperatively with his brother, their mom decides to take them to the park because they're having such good days, but when he instead knocks his brother's race car set down, the boys have to clean up the mess and miss out on park time). And at the end of each story combination, Danny and Darla reflect on how their choices determined the course of their days, and what they did well, and what they could do differently next time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We purchased What Should Danny Do? on our own, and we thank Elon Books for gifting us What Should Darla Do? and What Should Danny Do? School Day, as well as the cape, poster, and stickers. All thoughts and opinions are our own! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The "Power to Choose" series is fun, educational, and addictive in the best way possible, reminding us all that we have the power to determine our futures rather than live them passively. You can bet we're going to get our hands on the upcoming What Should Danny Do? On Vacation as soon as possible! Stay tuned tomorrow for a giveaway— 3 lucky winners will each win a Danny book and cape of his/her choice!
A book that allows the reader to make choices. The choices made directs the story. Give the book re-readability. And a wonderful conversation starter with the kids about choosing wisely and the consequences, good or bad, of those decisions.
Love theses books the only thing I can think that might be better is if once in a while even when they make a great choice it doesn’t go perfect because of the choices of others but I’m not sure if that would distract from the moral and fun of the book or not these are really cute and fun my kids love them!
Every day students are faced with choices they must make. Should I get ready for school or keep playing my game? Do my homework or just pretend that I did? Play a game by the rules or be a bad sport? Help a sad friend or ignore him? Each one of these decisions can impact yourself and possibly someone else. Teaching children that they have the power to make their own choices is a critical component to life, no matter what your age! Danny is a student who is testing his superpower of choosing! What Should Danny Do? School Day, is a choose your own adventure book that is appropriate for younger elementary students, grades K-2. Danny is faced with several important decisions he must make, beginning with getting ready for school in the morning. After each scenario the question is asked. “What should Danny do?” You are given two choices to choose from and each one will send you to a different page. The choice the students make will alter the course of the story. Each question also leaves a great opening for conversation with students about making the right choice, in any situation. If the students do not make the best choice and you continue reading, it will allow for more discussion on what Danny should have done instead. This book is a very interactive read aloud that will engage students of all super power abilities. The child friendly circumstances are related to young students which makes the book much more relevant and can teach students that they have the superpower to make good choices too! So…”What should you do? Read aloud this book to your class or not?!”
We've enjoyed the series. Taking one star off for unrealistic, sugarcoated depiction of school, meaning my public school second grader can't relate to Danny's problems. Danny must be going to a private school.
For instance, children in my daughter's public school don't get to play team sports during the 10 minute recess they get. They don't do science experiments or play with slime, and are not allowed to share food during lunch (due to regulations related to allergies). They're also not allowed to talk during lunch, because they only get 10 minutes to eat.
Such a cute book! The kids in my class absolutely love it. Danny believes he is a super hero in training (he is accompanied by the best images of him being a superhero, while the reader can see he really isn't). Danny goes through his school day having to decide to be a good friend, stick up for others, be kind himself, or to make the opposite of those choices. Great for letting kids see different consequences for actions, both positive and negative.
School Day" in the "What Should Danny Do?" series is an incredibly engaging and interactive book that empowers children to make their own choices. This unique format allows the story to be read differently based on the decisions the reader makes for Danny, making each reading a new adventure. It's a fantastic way to teach kids about consequences and decision-making in a fun and relatable school setting.
I read this to my son's 1st grade class as "Mystery Reader" in January before at home school started. It was a fun interactive experience that allows the kids to choose how Danny responds to certain things. By making choices for Danny as he goes about his school day, the kids can see how his day changes.
Solid, like all the Danny-titles. Lots of choices to make, lots of little dramas. The only downside is that the negative choices often lead to more exciting and eventful evets than the good ones. One of our little dudes chooses the naughtier / more akratic options and giggles and ooh-s through all the ensuing chaos with delight.

We’ve read all three books in this great series that follows Danny (this time at school) and the reader helps choose decisions through the day in this choose-your-adventure style of book that reinforces that kids have the power yo choose between good and poor choices.
The Danny books have been so helpful for my kiddo who struggles with pragmatic language and social scenarios. It's always fun to choose your own ending, and he has enjoyed reading these books over and over!
Good book showing how different choices can affect others as well as yourself. I would have not inquired about the sad boy at lunch though. At least not until I had my lunch.
This book was very helpful with an implusive young boy. He really enjoyed it. We read it together many times and then would discuss Danny's decisions and if he should have made different decisions and why.
This book was about what Danny should do on a school day. He made volcanos erupting with the slime coming out of the top like lava and magma inside it. Thank you
