Chloe After my grand-mère was murdered, I returned to Bayou Noir to find the killer. And I have just one suspect, Xavier Richelieu. But I forgot just how superstitious the folks in my old hometown can be. A voodoo priestess, a supposed vampire, and a grumpy gator are on the loose. I don’t believe in this crazy supernatural stuff, but I am worried about seeing my old crush again, Saint. And I should be. Somehow, he’s even more gorgeous than I remember. I’m tempted to leave my good girl ways behind and take a long, hard ride with the biker.
Saint I’ve got better things to do than follow Chloe around, but she seems bound and determined to get herself killed. Somebody needs to watch her back and it might as well be me. She’s running hot and cold, but one way or the other, I’m gonna sweet talk her into my bed. I’m used to keeping my distance from women, but with Chloe, I can’t get close enough.
Under Your Spell is a fast-paced, action packed, MC romance with some paranormal elements. This full-length standalone novel contains a hot biker, explicit language, scorching sex scenes, and an HEA.
Cynthia Rayne is a USA TODAY bestselling author of the Black Star Security, Kinky Security, Lone Star Mobster, and the Four Horsemen MC Series. While Cynthia was born and raised a damn Yankee in Ohio, her parents hail from Dixie, and she grew up on homemade buttermilk biscuits and southern wisdom. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, reading way too many romance novels, and drinking a truly obscene amount of coffee.
This probably would have gotten an extra star if it hadn't been for the ad nauseum mentions of how much of a whore Saint was. I get it; he is the town bicycle. I got it the first dozen times it was brought up. I didn't need to be hit over the head with it over and over again through the ENTIRE damn book! And of course, Chloe had basically no sexual experience and never had an orgasm...sigh. When will authors stop writing this cliché trope (the uber whore and the innocent)?
However, those issues aside I DID like the overall story. I loved the setting. I thought the plot was unique. I loved the side characters (even if they were all whores as well). It was a quick read, but not an overly sexy one. I think the relationship between Saint and Chloe had potential but lacked the fleshing out to give it the depth it needed to be believable. Perhaps if less page space was given to everyone's OTT sex lives the author could have used the space to build a better connection between the main characters? The ending was super rushed as well.
I don't know; it was decent for the most part. I am curious about the other characters and their books, but I hope the author takes the sluttiness of the characters down about a hundred notches because that is really what brought my rating down in this one. We will see I guess...
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Cynthia - this was one hell of a ride!!
Voodoo and superstitions, a witch and a vampire, a Demon MC called Saint and, I kid you not folks, a very grumpy gator! Top it all off with a nice murder mystery and there you go: a fast-paced, funny and intriguing read that is bound to have you hooked from the very first pages.
This is my first book by Cynthia Rayne and it will definitely not be the last! I decided to give it a try because the blurb promised something different than the average bad boy biker story. And I wasn't disappointed.
Chloe, a level headed young girl who has just finished college returns to her hometown Bayou Noir, after her grand-mère was murdered and is set on finding the killer. But Bayou Noir is not like any other town. Because in Bayou Noir voodoo, supernatural and superstitions are right at home!
And I'll tell you this folks, I loved the setting! The world is so vivid and the characters so alive!! Cynthia does a fabulous job in drawing us a perfect picture. The dialogues flow so easy and you can practically hear that southern accent! It makes you want to go and move there just because it is so great!
I loved Chloe's interactions with the town's people, especially Mamie, her grandmother's best friend. Taking into account the fact that Chloe doesn’t believe in 'the crazy supernatural stuff', that Bayou Noir is bursting with, her settling into her new home is funny and endearing. From the way she reacts to being expected somewhere because the Tarot cards warned of her coming:
"Speaking of getting settled. I need to ask you for a favor." "I know." Nettie waved a dismissive hand. "How?" She smiled mischievously. "The tarot cards told me you'd be stoppin' by." Riiighht.
To the way she freaks out when confronted with the town's own grumpy gator:
"I can't come to work." "Why?" Nettie asked. "I'm sorry. Didn't you hear me? There's a gator on the porch." "Don't worry, he don't mean ya no harm. Just give him wide berth and sneak past him." ... "Go to the closet." I dutifully went. "Alright" "Grab yourself a broom." "I got it." "Now shoo him away. He'll scoot on back to the swamp..."
"Oh helllll no. Screw that."
She became one of those characters that you'll remember fondly even after the book is long finished. Because she seems so very real!!
And then we have the bikers and Saint! It is refreshing that these guys aren't your average good boys posing as a bad ass biker. These guys are the real deal. Smugglers, womanizers and bad-ass outlaws. These are the kind of guys who would scrawl on their club's walls "It does my heart good to see you in a box of wood."
These are the kind of guys who pay tribute to Papa Legba (Papa Legba posters by Amelia Sales on redbubble)
with "Cigars every week since he was supposedly fond of them"
and Kalfou (Met Kalfou a lwa in Haitian Vodou on Pinterest)
with "rum infused with gunpowder so he'd leave them the fuck alone."
Saint... Our Saint is everything but a saint! And even his brothers pull his leg at times because: "Damn, you're like a town bicycle, everybody's had a ride." He just has to nail everything that moves! He fits right in with the Bayou Noir setting.
So.. great characters and a fabulous the setting! Top that off with a mystery that is by no means predictable and a touch of awesome supernatural and there you go! The perfect recipe for a great read that will grab you from the very first page and won't let you set it down till the very end!
The only reason I'm not rating this a 5 is the insta love/lust between Chloe and Saint. That didn't sit quite well with me, but then I'm more of a 'take-it-slow and make-him-work-for-it' kind of girl. And if that's not you and you don't mind it, this will be a guaranteed 5 star read for you!
I highly recommend it to all those of you in search for something different and original! It's a great read!
Under Your Spell by Cynthia Rayne was the first book in the Cajun Demons MC series. It was the first book I’d read by the author. I received a complimentary Advanced Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Chloe was back in her small Louisiana hometown near New Orleans after her grandmother had been murdered. She was determined to find the murderer.
Saint was Chloe’s high school crush. He was a biker and all women were interchangeable to him. However, after seeing the adult Chloe, he had to have her, even if only to scratch the itch.
The main plot was Chloe’s research for finding her grandmother’s murderer but had a secondary plot of Saint chasing Chloe. It was mixed with rumors of vampires, witches and voodoo dolls. I enjoyed the nuances of the Louisiana Cajun culture and suspenseful murder mystery plot. It was a newer flare for me with a focus on the contemporary mixed with a splash of paranormal.
I liked Chloe but I wasn’t as fond of Saint. It was told from both perspectives but I desired more from Saint and craved to feel a stronger connection between them.
Otherwise, it was a good start to a new series and a quick and entertaining read. The next book, Black Magic, gives us Maya and Xavier’s story and based on their chemistry, it has great promise!
Note: I received an unedited copy; therefore, my review was based on the plot, character development and overall flow of the storyline, excluding any grammatical, punctuation or other related editing items.

An honest review is what I am going to give. I have to say I effing and I mean EFFING loved this book! It has a little of everything in it from voodoo to paranormal and a little bit of mystery and my all time favorite MC! Cynthia created this world that drew me in and kept me reading right till morning. I could not put it down even when I got tired I kept reading because I love books written about the bayou and this one was grade A amazing. It kept guessing till the end and when i reached the end and got that sneak peak of the next book I said mothereffer I need book two right now!
Chloe has come back home because her grandmother has been murdered. She is determined to find out who killed her because her grandmother was a wonderful woman who did nothing to bother anyone. So Chloe is determined to find out what happened and she has inherited her grandmother's house. So she has relocated back to the bayou. She is also secretly excited to see her childhood crush Saint. She has always thought about him and has always wondered what it would be like to be with him and now that she is older maybe he will give her the time of day.
As Chloe is on the hunt for her grandmother's killer she is being threatened to mind her business and leave it alone. So when she is threatened Saint comes to the rescue with his club and helps her out. But can he save Chloe from the killer? Can Chloe find out who the killer is? Is Chloe and Saint finally going to be together?
This is a must read you will not be able to put this book down because you will not be able to put it down! So go ahead and one click it and get to reading!
Chloe returns home to the bayou of Louisiana after her grandmother's mysterious death. Something doesn't sit well about it and Chloe is determined to figure out who would want her grandmother dead and why.
Chloe takes a job a local bar run by Cajun Demons MC. She runs straight into her childhood crush, Saint. At first, he doesn't recognize her but once he does, he promises to keep his hands to himself. It is proving to be difficult as both Chloe and Saint share an intense chemistry.
There are weird things going on in town but Chloe is shrugging it off as the normal paranormal superstition that the town folks believe in. She tries to get closer to Xav, the mysterious next door neighbor, who wants her grandmother's land.
I actually liked this story. I wasn't sure where the author was going to head with the voodoo and magic but she handled it very well. The murder mystery was sort of the weaker plot as I would have thought that Nettie or some of the other ladies would have figured out the killer for Chloe.
I think this is a good start to an unique series. I look forward to more books.
ARC provided to me by the author in exchange for honest review.
Reading this, you get some paranormal, MC, Cajuns, Voodoo, an alleged vampire, murder and an alligator named Kraken. I was excited to read and I did read it straight through in a few hours. Chloe has returned to her hometown of Bayou Noir after she was informed that her Grand-mere was murdered and she inherited the home of the woman who raised her and she intends to get to the bottom of her death. She was also going to get to see her Mamie. She also was wondering if she would see Saint and if he would recognize her since he last seen her before she left town years ago. Saint is the boy she had a crush on when she was younger only he never gave any indication that he even liked her. Saint is apart of the Cajun Demons MC and he is a manwhore and proud of it. He never lies to a woman. He doesn't do relationships. The one thing is there are more than enough women who are ready, able and willing to be in his bed. That is until he sees the new waitress walking towards his table.
Instant intrigue, this was an awesome Read. With all the mystical magical intrigues that surround New Orleans this story that occurs on its outskirts is bayou perfect! With touches that scream Cajun and Voodoo right alongside of the Cajun Demons MC, you have a recipe for not only hot Bikers, but the Magic of the Bayous. Add in the Murder of her Grandmére Camille Valois, and you definitely have a mystery on your hands. Coming home and facing the loss of Mamie is one thing, but throw in Saint a Bad Assed MC Member, who just happened to be who she crushed on growing up and you have temperatures that can compete with the Bayous. The characters in this story are absolutely incredible, I love the way the past and the present present themselves. They interact so well it is as if watching a movie in your mind while reading. Their passions are temptuous, quirky and totally adorable. A definite keeper!
I found the plot interesting and wish it just got more in depth. It seemed very rushed and I really didn’t feel the pull between Saint and Chloe. There should have been a prologue or a flash back about them. I think it just needed more. It want a bad read but not a great read either. I craved more info especially at the end. Why did Chloe go to law school? We had no background to figure out her choice and Saint from man whore gotta have it every night to a stand up guy...hummmmmm. Again it was a good read I will read the series.
Received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
I was glad to read your book because I never read paranormal books and yours took me out of my comfort zone and opened my eyes to a new genre of books. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Under Your Spell, it makes me want to go to Louisiana and research it's history first hand. I'm on the fence on whether our spirits stay behind or move on once the body expires. You put an interesting spin on it. This was an interesting genre to read and I recommend your book as a good read 👍
First, I'll tell you that I've been to New Orleans a few times and absolutely loved visiting. I've read a lot of Anne Rice too. Well, this is no Anne Rice, hardly even a little. That's fine because this book's story is more of a gumbo of Voodoo and a MC group attached to the swamps near New Orleans. It can be gritty but still it is MC light and paranormal light. Very entertaining. It gets a star off because it's a bit goofy on how Chloe bumbles into bad situations. I think I fell asleep with all the dialog of Saint trying to convince Chloe to sleep with him. Both characters had tenacity, that's for sure. Lol I don't think of the cover as Saint but he looks more of a vampire...or handsome devil...lol
I'd rate this book 3.5 stars. It showed a lot of promise but had a few problems for me that made me take a couple of stars off. The book was an easy, light read and I finished it in a day. The story's set near New Orleans in a small town that still holds fast to superstition and voodoo beliefs. There's a bit of witchcraft, a potential vampire and voodoo, so of course some of the story line is going to be over the top as it dabbled in the paranormal. I thought the MC side of things might conflict with the supernatural and although they certainly made strange bedfellows, it was a unique enough spin on two popular tropes. Chloe grew up in Bayou Noir and used to crush on Saint. Being short and a bit chubby, she wasn't really on the latter's radar. She moved away and went to college, only returning upon the death of her grand-mère who bequeathed her her house. Needing employment, she goes to an old friend of her grand-mère's who runs one of the only restaurants which is also the MC clubhouse. Shortly after, she sees Saint but doesn't reveal who she is. When he realises, he takes off, but comes back running when his attraction to her runs too high.
The book was definitely a case of instalove even though the two main characters were previously acquainted. Chloe's grand-mère was murdered, so the main reason she returned to town was to try and track down the murderer. This ran through the book and was probably the most unbelievable part of the story, including consideration of the paranormal elements. Chloe was around 22 and for someone that didn't have much experience in all aspects of life, she approached things in a head on way. Throughout the book, the reader sees her approaching potential suspects and asking them if they committed the murder. There was very little lead up, detail and tension building which was a shame as it was a real loss of a potentially interesting murder-mystery. Instead, it came across as a bit clumsy and made Chloe seem either clueless or childish.
Saint is your typical, dreamy MC Hero. The club is into arms smuggling but this isn't a major contributor to the plot. Saint was ordered around by the president a lot, making it seem as though he was just a grunt so there wasn't a lot of big, bad biker vibes as he was usually getting chewed out or being given orders. He's a player and there is another woman on the scene trying to make trouble, but no cheating. He knows he has to treat Chloe differently so tries to take her out or as he calls it, sex and a snack. Chloe went from not wanting to break her scruples to wanting to get Saint's clothes off, frequently interchanging between the two in the book which made her a bit too wishy-washy for my liking. She also came across as naive or a bit of a twit at times. She knew Saint probably didn't want anything too serious so when it looked like he was leaving her, she got upset. That being said, he could have done whatever he wanted because all Saint had to do was smile and look her way and her eyelids starting drooping with desire - the author's words, not mine.
My main problem with the plot was that some aspects seemed rushed and lacking extra detail. As a result, some events came across as a bit silly or lacking suspense. There were really only a couple of suspects for the murder and Chloe basically confronted them both at different times with minimal evidence and then the author moved on to the next bit in the story. This made the mystery element pretty clunky and almost non-existent as there was no build up. There were also some parts of the book that were confusing and didn't quite add up/make sense. For example, Xav, who is a potential suspect and also interested in a fling with Chloe, first turns up unannounced at her house at one in the morning to offer to buy the house off her. And of course, she just lets him in, a complete stranger. Righto...
The book description mentioned scorching sex scenes. There wasn't really. They didn't fully hook up until well past half way and there was really only one intimate scene. The book also had a couple of grammatical errors with the incorrect 'to' and 'passed' being used. These type of mistakes drive me crazy. Some of the timeline with events in the book were either rushed or didn't make sense as some of the writing was confusing. There was the former sassy best friend who was really unfriendly and also happened to be Saint's little sister. I'm pretty sure she was chucked in as much as she was because she's the focus of the next book in the series. Same goes for Xav. Again, a bit more detail would have done a lot for this book.
Overall, it was a light read with an interesting twist on the currently overdone MC trope. With a bit more attention to detail, it would have been a more solid read. Unfortunately, Chloe came across as an amateur Nancy Drew and because it was such a quick read, the story line couldn't quite pull of the murder/mystery effectively.
I liked parts of this one, but at the same time, it was missing something to really make it a solid 3 or 4 star read. So, for me, between 2 and 3 stars, but rounded up to 3.
I never felt the chemistry between Saint (H) and Chloe (h), which was the biggest problem I had. I didn't like that they were such stereotypical opposites, too. You have the super-slut (not just Saint but Maya too) and the naïve almost-virgin. Kinda old. Not that I didn't understand Chloe's reluctance for relationships, given her family history, but still, it was a really stark contrast. But their actual chemistry was an issue too - just never felt it. He was her old crush, and he just though she was hot and yet not as slutty as his normal hook-ups. That was pretty much what I gathered from them. So why did they get so hung up on each other?? He was willing to go from total man-whore to serious commitment in just a couple months. But emotionally? It was pretty much just lust-to-the-point-of-stupidity. On both their parts.
The mystery side of things was a bit rushed - my other big problem. There was more focus on all of Saint and Chloe's near-hook-ups than on the mystery and suspense, so it left the ending a big rushed and anti-climactic. And in such a small town, how did an affair not come to light? How did the police totally miss all that? Chloe found it all within a few weeks of bumbling investigations. I know, I know - it's a romance, not a mystery, but still...
I really liked the atmosphere, though. I liked that it was a supernatural/paranormal romance, but at the same time it wasn't. It was a great atmosphere for the story, nice and kinda spooky. The elements that were present were enough to give it that atmosphere, but still keep it feel very realistic.
As a biker/MC romance, it's pretty low-key. They're smugglers and we meet a few of them, but there's not tons of bike or club action. If that's what you're looking for, you've been warned.
Alternating 1st person POV. That could have been made more use of, because (like I said) as it was, I never really felt what drew them to each other. No cheating or OW drama, exactly, but H is definitely on the man-whore end of the spectrum prior to getting with Chloe. Some superficial love triangle dynamics, but nothing really developed, so not hitting my pet-peeve buttons. Nobody overly stupid or angsty. Overall, just a fast and fairly fluffy MC romance with a good spooky atmosphere. HEA and no cliffhangers, though threads laid out for the romance in the second book in the series.
Would I read more in the series? Yes, especially if it's another free Kindle find. It's not a series I can see myself getting super hooked on, but it's a good bit of escapism. I just wish there'd been more chemistry with the leads (but that looks more promising for the leads in the next book, Maya and Xav - we shall see!)
Mystical voodoo witchery and Cajun heat sets this town alight...
Where the foundations of Cajan heat and mystery are established and new stories will unfold throughout Cynthia Rayne’s new series… Cajun Demons MC. UNDER YOUR SPELL - Bk 1 is the first foray into this new series.
it brings together two people, Saint and Chloe. A former crush that can lead to more if one wants to take a risk to the heart. Returning home for Chloe is more than just looking for a fresh start… it’s filled with sadness and hurt and a desire to solve her grand-mère’s murder. Mystery surrounds this small Cajun town… a murder that’s so personal for Chloe, she needs it solve, no matter the cost, the obstacles or that mysterious pull of voodoo and magic that she has trouble believing in. Amongst all of the heat and mystery, is the Cajun Demon MC… and one man in particular that sets her heart on fire... oh do those guys have stories to tell… even more secrets to hide.
A wonderful weekend read for those that love MC thrills and all the good/bad that these bad boys want to protect. Intrigue and dramatic suspense run rampant as Chloe, despite objects from friends, continues in her pursuit to catch a killer, who has made their intent personal, and oh so eerie.
Entirely my opinion, this is a good start and the beginnings of a series has had it’s foundation established. There is definitely an interesting cast of characters to come… I just wish instead of quick novella style reads that authors add much more depth to their stories. This is a MC and I feel that this aspect needed more exploring, what’s there is good but, I wanted more. That’s me wanting more words and story/character development and for author’s to push the limits and add more layers.
Overall, it’s an easy weekend reading of mystery, magic and spicy Cajun heat. It’s serious yet lighthearted. A good start to this series… I look forward to seeing how this series evolves… because Cynthia has definitely got some intriguing character’s with secrets to unfold… you know you want to find out more.
MC + Paranormal + Voodoo/witchcraft = Perfect Trio! From Ms. Nettie who might as well be named Louisiana's “Ms. Creole” (if there is such a thing) to the Kraken meeting you at your front steps; you are taken into the bayou while reading Under Your Spell by Cynthia Rayne. I just wanna sit at Nettie’s bar and just visit with her all day.
Chloe is back in her hometown, Bayou Noir, and not for a family get together. She is back to find out who killed her Grandmere. Chloe is a normal everyday girl who grew up as the oddball and got out as soon as she could. Her character is a determined, strong-willed southern lady. She knows when she needs to put her foot down and get stuff done but she has a softer side. So not a 100% dominate heroine, so she is a good mix. Taking a job at the bar Ms. Nettie runs happens to be also the bar the Cajun Demons MC runs out of. Chloe starts to find herself going down memory lane with everyone she is running into. From Maya who used to be one of her close friends (so many layers with this lady that need to be peeled back) and then there is Xavier, which I am ready for that book to come out between Maya and Xavier… left me with so many questions. And of course Saint, Chloe’s childhood crush. Saint, who happens to be a member of the Cajun Demon’s, and seeing Chloe knocked him on his arse. The chemistry is there and it is sweet chemistry. It felt like he was holding back because of his respect for her Grandmere. But I do wish there was a little bit more *umph* between Chloe and Saint. Just a bit more angst, more depth to the relationship. But I can picture them as a really sweet couple. The whole voodoo and paranormal really drew me in. I do get geeked out with voodoo, paranormal, witchcraft. I am looking forward to reading more of this series with the mixture of MC (which is a go-to for me already) and of course, paranormal/voodoo/witchcraft is a bonus.

"Allow me to make myself clear. My intentions aren't gentlemanly. Not in the slightest." "They aren't?" "No. You're delicious and I want much more than a taste."
Murder. Mystery. Voodoo. Hexes. Spells. And one sexy bad-boy biker. Who could ask for more?
Chole Valois is home. Back to Bayou Noir after her grand-mere is brutally murdered. It's been a long time since she's been home, but she needs to find out who is responsible for her death. What aren't the police telling her? Who is this mysterious man, Xavier and how is he involved? With the list of suspects getting longer, the clues running out, and now voodoo warnings left on her doorstep, she should just drop it. But, she owes it to Mamie to bring her murderer to justice. She's going to need HIS help - Saint. The crush she never outgrew - and now he's sexier than ever. Can he and his MC club, the Cajun Demons, protect her and help her smoke out the killer? If she makes it out alive, do she and Saint have a chance?
Michael "Saint" St. James is a player. Finding his happy ever after just isn't in the cards for him. Not with the dangerous activities he and his club are involved in. But, when she walks in, all bets are off. She's all grown up and he'll do anything to have her. But, she's in danger and she doesn't see it - or if she does, she's ignoring it. He'll protect her - he and his MC club. He just found her - he won't lose her.
I enjoyed this story. The mystery surrounding the Louisiana Bayou has always intrigued me. The magic, the unexplained, voodoo, and spells both draw me in and spook me all at the same time! I would have liked to have had a bit more on the history between Chloe and Saint, and I really would have liked more on Xav - there's definitely a story there. I hope we learn more about him in the books to come in the series. I can't wait to read the stories of the other MC members - Echo (loved him!), Crow, and Scorch!
I’ve read the Four Horsemen MC and Lone Star Mobster series by Cynthia Rayne and I love when she spices things up by setting a story in Louisiana. The story lines of her books are generally somewhere in the Deep South (Texas, Louisiana) and I can really relate to the accents and atmosphere she describes. HOWEVER, when she sets a story in/around NOLA, I am automatically sucked in by the vortex that is Cynthia Rayne. The spiciness of the Cajun/French accent, the black majic and voodoo—this combo draws me in like nobody’s business. Under Your Spell did not disappoint. You could almost feel the sultry, humid air and smell the swamp while you read this book.
I was drawn in from the first chapter—Chloe going home to find her grand-mère’s, Mamie, killer while at the same time running into her adolescent crush, Saint, the Cajun Demons MC member who is hotter than sin and sweeter than a beignet. I love to read about manwhores meeting their match. Chloe may have been innocent compared to Saint and the club's succubi, but she was an honest heroine who held her ground, whether she was setting herself up for heartbreak or trying to get answers about Mamie’s murder. The secondary characters, especially May, Xavier, and Crow, and going to be on my watch-list. I cannot wait until I get their stories. There is something lyrical about the South—the accents, the manners, the downhome earthiness of its inhabitants that speaks to my soul. I’m a Southerner born and bred and I can tell you without a doubt that the Southern essence is captured in Under Your Spell. Another great start to a new MC series that I can really sink my teeth into and look forward to the next installment.
3 1/2 to 4 Stars 🌟 I really enjoyed Under Your Spell. This story takes place in the outskirts of New Orleans which already is interesting add to it an MC and a somewhat paranormal world and it is fascinating. There are mystical characters mentioned in the book but the story is not set in a paranormal fantasy realm, it's a modern-day human world. The town folks practice witchcraft, think Vampires exists and live in a Voodoo culture. Between the bikers, the creole lingo, and Beignets, I couldn't help getting lost in the story. Under your spell is about a sweet girl Chloe who comes back to Louisiana after her grandmother was murdered and catches the eye of her childhood crush, Saint a slightly older gorgeous biker. I love the trouble Chloe gets into trying to figure out who murdered her grandmother but she is too curious for her own good. She's lucky Saint is there to protect her, of course, all along he's trying to seduce her. Their romance is heated. I liked how even though there is instant lust between them, Saint has to work to get Chloe to be with him. He is definitely bold and persistent. The story is suspenseful and unpredictable. I did not get the "who done it" right (wasn't even close) but I did like the mystery. This is the first book in the Cajun Demon MC series and it introduced me to so many likable characters, their backstories were just as captivating as Chloe and Saints. Just from all the characters introduced, I know each installment is just going to be better and better. Under your spell is a stepping stone to what is going to be a great addictive series. I can't wait for the next book. Don't let the word paranormal deter you from reading Under your spell. You will enjoy it.
Voodoo, Witches, Vampires and MC makes a fun read!
Cynthia Rayne has written another good book. I loved the Four Horsemen MC Series written by Cynthia and I wanted to check this book out, well it doesn't disappoint. Under Your Spell: Cajun Demons MC, is an action packed, fast-paced, MC romance with a bit of paranormal thrown in. It's a steamy story with hot bikers, explicit language, burning up the sheets sex scenes and a happy ending. We'll meet Chloe Valois and Saint aka Michael St. James, as they try to find out who killed Chloe's grand-mère (grandma). Coming back to live in Bayou Noir after Chloe's grandmother died has been hard for Chloe, the are no jobs, so she goes to Carrefore, an old plantation house turned into a bar and grilled and the club house of the Demons MC. Ms Nettie a friend of her grandmother's is a Voodoo Priestess and the old lady of the President of the Demons MC, runs Carrefore. Ms Nettie gives Chloe a part time waitressing job. Saint is a member of the Cajun Demons MC and works as a long shore man, he doesn't do relationships, just sex, no strings or drama, he's usually with a Succubi, what the club calls the girls that hang around for sex. Until he sees Chloe again, she's all grown up, and she still has a crush on Saint. With Saint trying to get with Chloe and she's not going to be busy another woman he's slept with and she is trying to find her Grandmother's killer, things heat up in Bayou Noir. Finding that someone special is not easy. Can Saint get Chloe to trust him? Can Chloe believe in all the strange things that go on around Bayou Noir? Voodoo, witches, vampires, ghosts? Looking forward to Black Magic: Cajun Demons MC Book 2 with Maya and Xav.
A new to me author, Cynthia Rayne delivers the goods with this steamy yet very touching tale of a hardened biker and the girl who came back home. Saint and Chloe aren't strangers but one look at the gorgeous man and her childhood crush comes flooding back while he doesn't seem to remember her. That all changes and Rayne takes us on a ride filled with mystery, a bit of old-fashioned Louisiana 'voodoo' and some undeniable heat.
The Author paints a vivid picture of the life in this town on the outskirts of New Orleans and from Nettie to Scorch to Zero to our main couple, there seems to be much more than meets the eye. I liked that Chloe has a spirit about her that has nothing to do with the otherworldly spirits her family seems to possess. Her defiance at wanting to find her Mamie's killer drove Saint crazy but his being there for her when it counted, was truly sweet and I have no doubt they'll be able to make their newfound relationship work. The reformed manwhore and the feisty waitress are truly fun to watch and their sexy trysts were full of passion and real feelings.
This is a quick, fast-paced read that keep me interested and as it ended, I was definitely wanting more from this entire group of characters. There is a crazy brotherhood with Saint's crew and I just know they all have a story to tell. His sister Maya is a tough cookie and her story being told next should be very interesting, particularly if it involves a certain Mr. Richeleau.
I'm happy to have found this book and I thank Rayne for offering me a copy to review.
Under Your Spell was a good start to the Cajun Demons MC series. It’s a paranormal romance that has a little bit of voodoo, vampire, witches and the Cajun chapter of the Demon MC. Cynthia did a great job building the little town of Bayou Noir with some interesting townspeople. I can really see the potential of some promising stories to come with the folks.
The murder plot was filled with suspense that was entertaining. However, I find that the romance between Cholé and Saint lacking a little depth. I cannot really feel the connection or sparks between them. The story implied they had history but there was no explanations about the past. I think more details and background were needed to help me understand their choices such as why Saint had turned 180 from being a man-whore to someone who was willing to commit . There were still lots of room for development on the MC aspect of the story.
Overall, it was quick and entertaining read. The series has a great backbone with an interesting town and folks. With further plot and character development, I can really see the potential of a great paranormal series.
I received an advance reviewer copy of the book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Under Your Spell literally had me under it's spell!
This was the first book by Cynthia Rayne that I have read so I had no expectations going in. I usually don't read paranormal type books on the regular but there was something about the story's description that grabbed my attention.
If you like The Originals, the spin off of The Vampire Diaries, or MC stories, you just might find that this book is for you. Set in the Bayou, it has the old world magic and mystery on every page.
Under Your Spell gave me just a taste of this MC and I definitely want more. There were underlying stories for other characters and I cannot wait to read their stories as well.
Chloe and Saint have a hot chemistry and while they didn't wait long to get together, I did enjoy watching him try to stay away from Chloe.
This story not only has the paranormal facet to it but there is also the murder of Chloe's Grandmother that needs solving...which is why Chloe even came back home to begin with. Saint was just an added bonus.
Looking forward to the next story in this series. I also checked out the authors backlog and have found some others that have piqued my interest.
I am giving Under Your Spell 5 stars.

Amount of sex 2 / 5 How explicit is the sex scenes 2 / 5 Story 4 / 5 Overall: 4 / 5
Under Your Spell is the first book in the Cajun Demons MC series from author Cynthia Rayne. This is a standalone romance, and it’s a cross between a paranormal and an MC romance. I would say that the plot had more of a paranormal feel rather than an MC one, which was fitting as the story was set in New Orleans.
Under Your Spell tells the story of Chloe who has recently returned home after her grandmother, Mamie, was killed. She is determined to find out who killed Mamie and seek out justice. Although, Chloe is soon threatened. Saint is a member of the Cajun Demons MC and the brother of her childhood best friend. Chloe has always had a crush on Saint, and she takes advantage of Saint not recognizing her. When Chloe is threatened, Saint it there to help her. Can Chloe solve the mystery before getting hurt? I enjoyed reading Under Your Spell. It’s always fun reading a paranormal romance set in New Orleans! I look forward to seeing where the author takes the series!
Another awesome series from Cynthia Rayne!!! Chloe is settling back in her hometown after the murder of her grandmother while fighting her guilt of not being there for the woman who raised her. Now she's waitressing for her grandmother's best friend where the Cajun Demons MC hang their vests trying not to give in to her childhood crush Saint, a member of the MC. Saint doesn't "date" but has a long list of one night stands and Chloe is special and makes him think about commitment but he's already blown his chance, or did he. Between the voodoo, hexes, big alligators , witches and rumors of vampires Chloe must be getting close to figuring out who killed her grandmother with the threats she's receiving. Saint has claimed her as his "old lady" but will be able to keep her safe from a killer??? This is a fast paced read that will hook you to the suspense, blistering chemistry and the curiosity of the unknown. The characters will draw you in with their tid bits of info and just knowing they'll get a story. Looking forward to the next book and each one after that. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Under Your Spell is the first book in the Cajun Demons MC series. Chloe has had a crush on Saint for as long as she can remember. She returns to her hometown after her grandmother is murdered and ends up working at a diner to make ends meet. She bumps in to Saint, but he doesn't recognize her. She knows Saint doesn't do relationships, so she faces the quandary of telling him who she really is or if she wants to take a chance on a one night stand with him none the wiser to her identity.
There is magic, voodoo, and witch craft in this thrilling romance. Will Chloe find out who murdered her grandmother before she meets a similar fate? Will she take a chance with Saint? And if she does, will she come out with her heart intact?
Under Your Spell is a hot, fantastic start to this series. Can't wait to see what Ms. Rayne comes up with next.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Set in the bayous of Louisiana this book was interesting, Chloe returns home because her grandmother is killed of an awful death, the town believes in witchcraft, vampires, and potions. Chloe however does not believe in any of this, the book is good, however there was to many french words and phrases I did not understand. There should have been a glossary or something that could have told me what the meanings were. Now lets get to Chloe love interest Saint, he is a biker but honestly it all seemed a little fake, meaning the president stated don't get close to anyone, don't do love? well guess what?!?! he did! now what? Only use the biker girls? ??? does not make sense. Saint does have a sister Maya and I do want to know her story. This will be the next book in the series and I might read this one as well.
Love Nettie even though she is seems a little crazy
I loved this story. The author surrounded the characters and storyline in mystery. I have so many questions that need answers. Chloe is sweet, innocent but she has a wild side underneath. Saint is sexy and lethal to all woman. He is a manwhore and is proud of his reputation until he sees Chloe...lets say he will question his life choices. The author could go in some many directions with this storyline...I hope it continues because I have questions that need answers. I loved the characters, storyline, the secrets and myths and legends that surround the area the story takes place.
The only reason I didnt give it 4 stars is I wanted Chloe and Saint's story to be longer and I wanted to see her embrace her heritage. I can not wait for the next story. Happy Reading!!!
Saint and Chloe have known each other for years. Chloe left town only to return after her grandmother was killed and she inherited her house. Chloe is on a mission to find out what happened and hold that person responsible.
Saint is part of a motorcycle club who only has one use for a woman until Chloe comes back into his life. He sees her determination and decides to appoint himself as her protector to make sure she isn't killed in the process.
This story was so fun to read. It was a love story with two individuals who have some serious baggage. There is also magic, legends, voodoo and possible vampires. It is the type of book that just might make you a believer!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 Start read!! Great start to a new series!! Saint was a manwhore who changed his ways for Chloe. I loved that their was build up here and he did not take one look at her an instantly change his ways. This is the first book I have read with the voodoo, New Orleans feel. I loved it. You can tell the author really did her research for this one. Chloe, seems to be a bit naive at times. She acts like he is indestructible a 5 feet tall which bothered me at times. The story line was great and kept me entertained. Also Nettie was a great secondary character. There are insights to further story lines with Maya and Xav. I cannot wait for that book. All in all I would totally recommend. This series has great potential!!!
I like the fact that the book shows how small town rumors get out of hand. Magic? Vampires? Chloe doesn't believe in any of that, but after her grandmothers gruesome murder, she comes home after years of being away. The man she crushed on as a young girl is all grown up, hot as hell, and in an MC. Her childhood best friend is now a grumpy, cynical young woman. Her boss considers herself to be a voodoo priestess. Strange things begin happening and if Chloe isn't careful, she may be the next victim. Saint is doing his best to ensure that doesn't happen, but Chloe is determined to find answers. Good story. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. It didn't get my heart palpitating, but I enjoyed it. I did think there were quite a few editing issues though.
