A Christmas engagement, broken months later, rocked Candy Kaine's world. Christmas no longer carries happy memories. Burying her heart beneath a schedule crammed with college courses, full-time work, and a few side jobs, numbs the pain for a while. With this holiday season quickly approaching, Candy's ostensibly happy life is upended when an upscale resort threatens to buy the satellite campus in her small town. Will she allow the heart-break from last Christmas to ruin this season's possibilities or will Past, Present, and Future experiences give her the courage to open her heart before it's too late? Jace Marlowe is struggling to survive the aftermath of a bad break-up. A temporary job for an upscale resort could be the turn around he's looking for. However, it comes with some drawbacks. The first being it requires a return to his small hometown, a place he's vowed never go back to. The second he discovers upon arrival. His grandmother's beautiful neighbor. She wants to keep the school just where it is. If she doesn't get her way will she be as vindictive as his ex?
This was another Hallmark movie in book form, but less cheesy than a typical Hallmark movie. Which is surprising, considering the main character's name is Candy Kaine. Honestly, that was almost a deal breaker for me. I'm glad I didn't let the name hold me back, because the name was not a big deal at all, and it did not set the tone for the plot. She was not an elf or a stripper. Or a stripping elf. She was basically the opposite of a stripping elf. I digress.
This was a sweet love story. The main characters were relatable and likable. I also loved that the characters mentioned Jesus and went to church. In addition, there was kind of a magical nativity (not too much of a spoiler). And come on, it's CHRISTmas!
Anyway, I liked it and I recommend it to anyone wanting a sweet holiday romance.
I really enjoyed the majority of the characters in this book; especially, Grandma Edie. The story never lagged, and I couldn’t wait to finish reading it, but also didn’t want it to end.
