This is the kind of book you want to have just because it's beautiful and not necessarily because it's a well written biography. Still, it was interesting to read and it's absolutely gorgeous! So in my opinion this illustrated world of a fashion icon deserves 5 stars!

Chanel, fue una niña de origen humilde, del que siempre renegó, al que su padre abandonó en un orfanato después de la muerte de su madre y gracias a su habilidad con la aguja, hizo de su nombre su propia marca, creando una casa de alta costura de gran creatividad, elegancia y glamour. Fue la primera mujer en vestirnos con pantalones, consiguió comprar su propio edificio y se atrevió a diseñar ropa de baño para mujeres. Muy fan de ella, del libro que tiene unas ilustraciones preciosas, muy recomendable. Una auténtica maravilla de edición.

Most of the times, me and non-fiction books don't work well together. However, this one was different because it was written in a very fast-paced and sassy way. Also, the illustrations by Megan Hess were an absolute delight. I don't know if I would have liked a more detailed biography of Chanel. I would probably get bored somewhere in the middle, as my experience with other non-fiction books suggests. But I really enjoyed this one. It's definitely not only a pretty book, but a book I recommend for someone who goes through a reading slump.

This must be a first or close to it, this is a book you can finish in less then 45 minutes. I forgot just how many illustrations and how little text was actually in here.
None the less if you don't know anything of Chanel this will be a good start to find out the basics. Do not expect an in depth biography of either Chanel as a person or her brand though.

This is a lovely, lovely book. There isn't that much to read and some of the facts get repeated again and again in different ways; if you want to learn about Chanel and her life, look elsewhere. But this is not meant to be a biography, it's a visual celebration of a very inspiring woman and her legacy. The illustrations in this book are absolutely wonderful!

With the recent death of Karl Lagerfeld, I had this feeling, that it would be just the right time to read this one, finally. And it definitely was!
It has no deeper biographical information that you wouldn't find on the internet, nonetheless I enjoyed this more artistic and slightly playful way of showing the life of one incredible woman. The Illustrations are beautiful and bring the essence of Coco, and her art to you. She fought relentless to let women unfold themselves in her creations. Thank you Mademoiselle.

Para quem gosta de moda, fotografia, desenho e imagens femininas devem ler e ver este livro. Não será propriamente de leitura mas tem ilustrações lindas que retratam a vida de Coco Chanel e Paris. Merece as 5 estrelas pela sua beleza. Aproveitem para conhecer um pouco de Megan Hess e o seu trabalho. Vale a pena.

Para empezar a conocer el universo Chanel, este libro es un comienzo maravilloso. La gran Coco Chanel fue una pionera de la moda y una mujer llena de misterios, de todo eso se habla en este libro mientras se recrean los revolucionarios diseños que la famosa diseñadora le regaló al mundo, cambia do para siempre el sentido de la elegancia.
Aunque se hace un claro recorrido por la mujer, la marca y la leyenda que es hoy en día Chanel, me hubiera gustado que se quedara más en quién era Gabrielle antes de ser Coco, esa misteriosa niñez y adolescencia que influyeron su estilo y marcaron su vida para siempre. Sin embargo, el libro habla ampliamente sobre los orígenes de la diseñadora y su llegada a la fama.
La recopilación de datos es satisfactoria, la información que se encuentra en sus páginas despierta curiosidad y ganas de saber mucho más de esta gran mujer. La parte gráfica es maravillosa, la recreación clara y elegante de los diseños de Chanel es como si fuera una fotografía, de inmediato activa los recuerdos y le da vida a las páginas.

Another beautifully illustrated book by Megan Hess, the illustrations and the overall presentation of this book are beautiful and this book has a proud place on my bookshelf. This was a very quick read, I believe it only took me around 20-30 minutes to get through as there is not that much text, however I still enjoyed reading and learning some basics about Chanel herself and the brand. I would not go into this book expecting an in-depth biography of either Chanel or the brand, instead it covers the basics which I personally was more than happy with.

Chanel nació en 1883 en Saumur, un pueblo mercantil a orillas del Loira. Hija ilegítima de una lavandera y un comerciante, tenía doce años cuando murió su madre y su padre la abandonó en un convento en la localidad de Aubazine.
Fue allí, en el orfanato, donde aprendió el arte de la supervivencia.
Sus referencias a las cuentas de los rosarios, las cruces, las cadenas, los colores beige, negro, blanco, marcaron su estilo.
Ella decía que vestía de colegiala como lo había hecho siempre y esa paleta de colores neutros se convirtieron en su sello de identidad.

Bueno chicos antes de nada deciros que este libro es una edición preciosa!! Tiene los cantos plateados, la portada, como veis, es una maravilla, pero por dentro no se queda corto... Nos encontramos con ilustraciones en blanco, negro y beis que hacen que no puedas apartar los ojos del libro.
La vida de la diseñadora Coco Chanel (Gabrielle) era un misterio para mí, ya que no había leído nada sobre ella, por lo tanto me ha encantado embarcarme en este libro, el cual tiene poco texto pero el necesario para que sepamos los orígenes de Coco, sus amores, como empezó en el mundo de la moda, cuáles fueron las primeras prendas que diseñó y hasta donde llegó, que como ya sabéis, era una de las diseñadoras más importantes y su marca es una de las más globales del planeta.
En el libro vemos ilustrados sus diseños más fomosos, desde el perfume Chanel N°5, pasando por las perlas, su logo con las dos C, el traje de Tweed, el little black dress, sus tijeras siempre colgadas del cuello para cortar las prendas que hiciera falta en el momento...
Un libro completo, coqueto, e ilustrado desde la admiración, donde recorremos toda su intensa vida hasta su muerte.

Textu v knihe nie je veľa, ale dokonale to vyvažujú kresby.
Ľúbi sa mi koncept, akým to autorka knihy pojala a nie je nič, čo by som tejto knihe vytkla.
(Ok, jeden preklep na začiatku knihy, ale to nie je chyba knihy, ale našich prekladov ...)
Tomuto sa vraví literárna lahoda a pastva pre oči.

So pretty. So stylish. So alluring. Both Coco Chanel and this lovely gem of a book. I loved Megan Hess's illustrations, and Chanel's story, ability and style are legendary and fascinating.

Okay! So, this book had cool art.
And that's really all that I thought was commendable about it.
A lot of the writing was sub-par and repetitive.
It kind of bothered me that they mostly skated over Coco Chanel's sketchy Nazi connections.

Megan Hess is so talented... she and her sister Kerrie have a very interesting touch (I think they are sisters). The Book is beautiful. So much so that I'm acting like an illiterate kid who flips through the pages to admire the illustrations.

In einem bildgewaltigen Bilderbuch mit biografischen Elementen entführt die Autorin in die Welt dieser unvergessenen Fashionikone.
Wie sieht es aus?
Bei dem Buch handelt es sich um eine Hardcover-Ausgabe, die etwas größer als A5 ist. Der Buchschnitt ist in glänzendem Silber gehalten genauso wie der Chanel-Schriftzug auf dem Cover und das Buch wirkt somit sehr hochwertig und edel. Auf dem Cover befindet sich zudem eine Illustration der Coco Chanel von der Autorin. Das Innere umfasst größtenteils Zeichnungen der Autorin nebst kleineren Texten, gelegentlich gibt es auch ganzseitige Zitate. Der Großteil des Buches ist in schwarz-weiß mit wenigen farblichen Highlights gehalten, es gibt aber immer wieder auch farbige Interpretationen. Die Textabschnitte sind sehr klein und dezent gehalten, man merkt, dass hier die Bilder deutlich im Vordergrund stehen.
Was erwartet einen?
Dieses Buch hat nicht den Anspruch, eine Biografie zu sein. Dies sollte man sich vor Augen halten. Vielmehr ist es ein eindrucksvoll inszeniertes Buch voller Illustrationen mit Bezug zu Coco Chanel und der Marke Chanel. Neben ikonischen Chanel-Produkten, jeder Menge kluger Zitate und schönaussehenden Zeichnungen findet man hier aber allerlei informative Kurztexte, die zumindest einen leicht biografischen Abriss über Coco und auch die Marke Chanel sowie Cocos Bedeutung für Chanel und Karl Lagerfeld gewährleisten. Es gibt viel zu entdecken. Das Buch lädt dabei auch ein zu einer Reise durch Paris, zu einer Reise durch die Zeit, dazu, Orte anzuschauen, die man gar nicht kennt oder noch nie miterleben durfte. Es wird sicher nicht langweilig.
Mein Fazit
Ich bin bekennender Fan von den Büchern der Autorin. Und ich kann vom Herzen sagen: Dieses Buch ist eines ihrer schönsten. Nicht nur die Zeichnungen sind wirklich schön und hochwertig, es ist die komplette Aufmachung des Buches. Es ist so liebevoll gestaltet, so gut durchdacht und wird mit informativen und teils lustigen Anekdoten versehen. Es ist eine unglaublich toll bebilderte Reise durch das Leben einer Frau, die die Fashionindustrie nachhaltig beeinflusst hat, und ein Blick einer der bedeutendsten High Fashion Marken der Welt. Dieses Buch ist geeignet für alle Leute, die hübsche Bücher mögen, ein gewisses Interesse an Fashion oder Coco Chanel haben und keine vollwertige Biografie suchen, denn hier handelt es sich natürlich eher um ein Bilderbuch. Ein toller Hingucker, auch als Coffee Table Book, als Geschenk oder als Deko-Element.

Neben ikonischen Chanel-Produkten, jeder Menge kluger Zitate und schönaussehenden Zeichnungen findet man hier aber allerlei informative Kurztexte, die zumindest einen leicht biografischen Abriss über Coco und auch die Marke Chanel sowie Cocos Bedeutung für Chanel und Karl Lagerfeld gewährleisten. Es gibt viel zu entdecken. Das Buch lädt dabei auch ein zu einer Reise durch Paris, zu einer Reise durch die Zeit, dazu, Orte anzuschauen, die man gar nicht kennt oder noch nie miterleben durfte. Es wird sicher nicht langweilig.
Mein Fazit
Ich bin bekennender Fan von den Büchern der Autorin. Und ich kann vom Herzen sagen: Dieses Buch ist eines ihrer schönsten. Nicht nur die Zeichnungen sind wirklich schön und hochwertig, es ist die komplette Aufmachung des Buches. Es ist so liebevoll gestaltet, so gut durchdacht und wird mit informativen und teils lustigen Anekdoten versehen. Es ist eine unglaublich toll bebilderte Reise durch das Leben einer Frau, die die Fashionindustrie nachhaltig beeinflusst hat, und ein Blick einer der bedeutendsten High Fashion Marken der Welt. Dieses Buch ist geeignet für alle Leute, die hübsche Bücher mögen, ein gewisses Interesse an Fashion oder Coco Chanel haben und keine vollwertige Biografie suchen, denn hier handelt es sich natürlich eher um ein Bilderbuch. Ein toller Hingucker, auch als Coffee Table Book, als Geschenk oder als Deko-Element.
