The Oprah Effect: 25 Ways to Find Peace, Happiness and Personal Fulfillment in a Post-Oprah Show World

Rate this book
Inspiring wisdom gained from watching Oprah Winfrey, the woman who changed her own life--and millions of others.

Oprah has contributed to the well-being of the planet in extraordinary ways by imparting heart and knowledge and overall belief in the ability of us all to continually grow and evolve. Oprah still teaches us, through her own challenges, that our life's work is to grow, take risks, and make a difference along the way. These lessons are the blueprint for a life lived out loud, warts and all.

"As America's best girlfriend, Oprah connected us in profound and meaningful ways. In The Oprah Effect Nancy Mehagian and Judith Proffer keep us connected to some of the amazing and dynamic lessons learned on the Oprah Show, with a gentle reminder that the power to change remains within each and every one of us." --Liz Pryor, Good Morning America Advice Guru

A friend once called me the Picasso of the potato. I'm a first generation Armenian American whose family narrowly escaped genocide. I left the security of suburban American life to wander the globe and in 1969 established the first vegetarian restaurant on the magical island of Ibiza. After a stint dancing cabaret in Syria, I was incarcerated in an infamous London prison, along with my newborn baby, where I managed, even there, to pioneer a healthy way of eating. Of my culinary memoir Quincy Jones wrote "A spicy brew of recipes and adventures. I don't know whether to eat this book, smoke it or make love to it.
Siren's Feast--part cookbook-large part raucous memoir."

Highlights:
1. When you connect with the work you are meant to do, you live in a state of grace and gratitude.

2. When we are mindful and keenly aware of the magnitude of even the smallest gestures, we are expressing love with tender and meaningful care.

3. Know your value, walk it, live it and be it. Very few things matter more than connecting with the significance of your contribution.

4. we are each responsible for the quality of our lives. When we fully accept that responsibility, we come to a huge understanding that our actions, thoughts and deeds can help or hinder our personal relationships and growth as spiritual beings.

5. Because when we transcend our habitual patterns of thought we invite evolution in. The result can be tremendously empowering. When we dare to consider an alternative way of thinking or living, we allow ourselves to navigate the world with possibility and optimism as well as clarity and power. When we think differently, we live differently.

6. She is a voracious reader because she grasped early on that the more she understands, the more she can contribute.

7. don’t do life alone. Want more for others than you want for yourself. And above all, be the friend you want to have.

8. Each of us has our own platform, whether large or small, and that is where our power lies. When we serve others, we satisfy the deepest part of our soul.

9. A pledge to life long learning doesn’t necessarily require a master’s degree at an Ivy League school. It requires a master’s degree in life. Whether we take an online class, read a book each week, engage in meaningful dialogue, attend workshops and lectures, learn a craft or learn a trade, we are laying the groundwork to amplify our life experience.

10. When we learn to harness our power to our passion there is no limit to what we can achieve. The sweetest satisfaction results from doing our heart’s bidding.
