Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

Nope. He never acknowledged the the OW was after him and dismissed her as just a friend even though she had tried to seduce him several times. He also chose his career over the h.

You would like to think it was Sheriff Matt to the rescue, but it was a joint effort between Matt and Savannah. I am certainly enjoying reading about the Texas Rascals!

Contemporary cowboy romance, mostly clean.
Female main character has a bunch of struggles, the pile of drama in her life doesn’t seem very realistic, kind of one soap opera episode too far. She’s nice enough I guess.
The male main character is this quintessential lawman caricature without much else going for him.
Her cows get stolen, they have to spend time together, they have a messy past and complicated relationship stuff. Bad communication skills but lots of lust. Meh.
Violence. No sex but some innuendo. Some language. There’s a scene with a woman being assaulted, themes of grief, loss of loved ones, cancer stuff, some PTSD type flashbacks, drinking, family drama

I really didn't get this at all. There is so much potential... but no follow through. No passion... and I don't mean of the gettin nekked sort... I fraking hate these miscommunication tropes... and, good grief, could any more potentially tragic events be chucked in there... sighs. So. Very. Much.

If you love a romance with heart, humor, and just enough emotional depth to make you reconsider your “I don’t cry over books” stance, then Second Chance Family by Laura Anthony (a.k.a. early-era Lori Wilde) is your next read.

This book delivers exactly what the title promises—a second chance at love, but with the added bonus of instant family complications, because why should romance ever be easy? Our heroine, who’s had her fair share of life’s rough patches, suddenly finds herself in close quarters with the one man who still makes her heart do that ridiculous, traitorous flutter. And our hero? Oh, he’s the kind of broody, responsibility-laden man who has no idea he’s about to get his world turned upside down by a woman he never quite forgot.

The banter? Delightful. The family dynamic? Utterly heartwarming. The emotional stakes? As high as a Texas summer heatwave. And just when you think these two stubborn hearts will never figure it out, Wilde—er, Anthony—throws in a moment so sweet, so perfectly earned, that you’re grinning like an idiot and debating a re-read before you even hit the last page.

Lori Wilde’s signature touch—strong heroines, heroes with just the right amount of emotional baggage, and a plot that tugs at all the right heartstrings—is present here in full force. If you’re a sucker for found family, reluctant-but-smitten heroes, and romance that feels like a warm hug with a side of sass, Second Chance Family is a must-read.

Four and a half "Just admit you love her already!" moments out of five. 💕👶

Matt by Lori Wilde
Texas Rascals Series Book Two
Detective Matthew “Matt” Forrester has come home to Rascal. He may have lost the woman he loved two years ago...but now that she's a widow, he can hope for a second chance. Or at least friendship. Especially since he's sent to investigate an incident on her ranch.

Savannah Markum has many secrets to hold close. With Matt working on her case, it's harder to keep some of those secrets. Like why she broke up with him three years ago. She didn't like that he was a fearless lawman, but now that she needs exactly that...she's glad he is around.

Secrets kept and decisions made...for whatever reasons...surface at some time. Nothing stays buried forever. Now, two people who've changed a lot in two years need to see if they can get through the past and see a future. Another good story in this series.

I really liked this book. It just goes to show you how screwed up young love can be and how we sometimes make decisions that affect others believing we know best even if we don't.

Savannah finds out that she has some health issues that will affect Matt's live in what she believes to be the most negative ways so she does the honorable thing and breaks it off with Matt even though she is truly in love with him.

Matt meanwhile goes ahead with his dream of becoming a Police Investigator and then returns home to ply his trade. Savannah finds that she has missing cattle and calls the police for help. When Matt shows up she knows that she has a secret that she must tell him but is afraid he will hate her after she tells him.

Matt has never stopped loving Savannah and he wants to see them together again even though she married another man and had his child.

I am a huge fan of author Lori Wilde so reading " Matt" was a no brainer. Things were supposed to be different for Matt and Savannah. They were a couple until they weren't. Matt was in law enforcement and the night he got shot changed things for Savannah. Amongst other things she couldn't handle knowing that when Matt went to work there was no guarantee he would come home. So she did what she had to do and they each went their separate ways.

It is now two years later and Matt is at Savannah's ranch to investigate some stolen cattle. They both realize that the spark is still there. But Savannah has a secret. She isn't sure they can survive it. This is a real page turner. Once I started it I could not put it down until I turned that last page. I loved every minute of it!

Savannah Markum has to report the cattle that was stolen from her ranch. Without that herd, she will be bankrupt and unable to provide for herself and her son. She did not anticipate Deputy Sheriff Matt Forrester being the responding officer. Matt Forrester was not prepared to see Savannah again...the one who got away. He was heartbroken after Savannah rejected his marriage proposal and then promptly married the rancher, Markum. Now he has to see her, newly widowed, and with a son that should have been his, darnit! Can Matt and Savvy put aside their past and solve the case of her stolen herd or will old feelings resurface?
Good story, although the waffling of the h to share her big secret was a bit frustrating.

Second chance

You were introduced to Savannah in the first book. Although part of a series this can be read as a standalone story.

Savannah and Matt were highschool sweethearts separated by circumstances. Now flash ahead a few years and Savannah is a widow with a 15onth old baby and a failing ranch. After some expensive cattle are stolen from the ranch, the law comes to investigate.

She's surprised that Matt is the sheriff deputy sent out to the ranch to investigate. Can she tell him the truth about why she broke up with him and sent him away? Is his career more important than a family?

You'll want to read this one to find out. There's romance and a bit of mystery in the second book of the Texas Rascals series.

Matt

Matt Forrester has come back to his hometown of Rascal, Texas as a Detective on the Sheriff's department. His ex-girlfriend is a widow with a ranch to run that is in financial trouble. She also has a small child she is trying to raise alone.
When some of her cattle are rustled and Matt comes to investigate she is surprised that he is back in town.
This book is about two people who still each but are afraid of crossing that line that might destroy them forever.
I love Lori Wolfe's books and this series is enjoyable to begin with so am looking forward to reading the rest of them.

Have I stepped back to the 70's?

This one would have been tame even then. And lame. I'm still trying to find out why RITA was interested in her work.I stuck with this book til the bitter end, thinking it would warm up. Nope.
Maybe the book would be ok for very sheltered readers, but I prefer a more realistic approach to romance.
Predictable and boring sum it up for me. Just sorry I wasted time on it.

Western Romance.
Matt aspired to enter law enforcement at a young age when his heavily mortgaged peanut farm had it’s harvest stolen in their absence and they lost the farm. Savannah and he have history including baby Cody another man claimed then died of cancer leaving her his name and his farm. When her valuable cattle get stolen Matt shows up as the investigating detective.

And this wouldn’t be a romance without there be an HEA.

Good read

Cowboy or a man in uniform......that says it all. He's the latest lawman in town and she has her failing ranch to run when some of her cattle disappear. They have a history that goes back a few years and she has secrets that she should have told him way before now. Some humor, a lot of angst, and they both fight an itch to touch each other again. Highly recommend.

Needed

There was something sweet about two people, both hurting, could come to understand how eAch must hAve experienced trauma and overlook the fear. Keegan's sickness broke the ice, but before the two could really trust, confusion , fear and disloyalty plagued them both, almost ruining any chance they might have of trusting and caring a g Ian.

Nice

I noticed a couple of errors but didn’t let it detract from the storyline. I had a couple of issues with the characters’ behavior, but don’t want to give any spoilers. Overall I enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more of Lori’s books.

I've always enjoyed a second chance love story and this has delivered with slow building sizzle. They had to work their way back through some heartbreaking misunderstandings and misconceptions.

Good mystery. Enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.

Consequences

After Keegan, I knew I'd found an author I wanted to read more of. Matt's story drew me in and I was happy, sad, exasperated, fearful and in love as the characters came alive for me. Rascals, Texas is an interesting place to be!

Strong in the feelings department.

This is soooo good! Savanna doubts that she could ever marry a lawman so she breaks up with her bf to marry an older farmer to save both of them. Then the broken hearted bf, Matt, returns still in love with Savanna. Reading through this was good. It just requires you to read “one more page”. Which then turns into “1 more chapter”. Lol. This is a great read.
