Tell It to My How I Lost My S#*T, Conquered My Fear, and Found My Voice captures Taylor Dayne's ascent against all odds, and the stories behind the dance soundtrack of our lives. From her early life growing up in a challenging blue-collar Long Island home in the 1960s and 1970s through her years touring as a chart-topping musician through New York, LA, Shanghai, London, Paris, and Tokyo in the 1980s and 1990s, she tells-almost-all about her experiences with renowned talents including Michael Jackson, Elton John, and Whitney Houston. Readers will be immersed in her enduring 30-year career, performing for audiences worldwide, as she raises twins as a single mother by choice.
Taylor has a powerful voice, not only as a singer, but as a storyteller as well. Her personal journey is proof that childhood reverie can become reality. The humor, strength, resilience and grace that led her to stardom are woven through the scenes of her book--showing how vulnerability turns out to be strength, and how strength comes from somewhere inside when you least expect it.
Tell It to My Heart should be read by fans, musicians, artists, and women of all ages. She inspires us to live our lives with courage--to raise our voices, to take action, to believe in ourselves, and to never give up on our dreams.
Taylor describes her "It's gritty, it's real, and it's truthful. It's about love, which is good even when it doesn't last, and God, who is good, even when it seems like He's being kind of a dick. It's also about friendship, but most of all, it's about the voice which was my salvation. At fifty-fffrrshx, I feel like I'm the closest I've ever been to knowing peace, knowing who I am and what I need. Loving, learning, mentoring and mothering--these are tall tasks that require a strong backbone of authenticity and integrity. I hope this book will inspire readers to do the same."
At first I thought that Taylor Dayne, mom of twins and survivor of childhood health issues, and I had quite a bit in common, but Taylor Dayne is not like the rest of us. She had a wolf as a pet! She dated men who were, like, a decade younger! She hung out with Prince! She has a life coach, and a relationship coach to her help her get over heartbreak. She had her twins by surrogate! But that's the point of celebrity bios, right? To see how the elite live. This is a fun, dishy, behind-the-scenes look at the life of one of the most successful female pop stars ever. Although she was once depressed and had to take Zoloft, her voice is positive and upbeat. I enjoyed spending time in the world of Taylor Dayne.
This was such a fantastic read, Taylor Dayne is one of the best selling artists of the 80's, she has many hits that most of us can all sing along to, she tells her personal life story and many interesting music industry stories. She's a very inspiring woman, even though her life sure as hell WASN'T easy, she continues to be a bright light and a force of nature. What I loved most about this book is that she wasn't pointing her fingers at others when things went wrong. Raw & honest.
What a life this woman has lived, truly amazing. Why in the world would a man want to have kids and when the going gets tough would he take it out on the family...why? Kids get mentally scarred and have trouble coping with life ie work relation ships and family. As for being a singer a career can really take off once you get in with good management and song writers. Many times musicians don't have lasting relation ships since they are on the road lots of the time. Taylor or rather leslie has had many loves in her life, and now two grown kids...plus some solid gold hits...It's better to have loved than not have loved at all...hey did I say that, yes I did...Cheers!
As a fan of Taylor’s I was excited to delve into her story. Although- it is fast paced it still felt lackluster in places and glossed over. It’s a very short and easy read as I enjoyed to learn more of her life and coming in her own in the music business. Taylor does get into some struggles, personal issues and growth but I just wish she dug a little deeper. If you’re a fan you’d still enjoy it.
I have been a fan of Taylor Dayne since “Tell It To My Heart,” came over the air waves. This book gives you an appreciation for her struggles.. a very great read.
Great book Love Taylor Dayne, she tells it all like it is, from her childhood, all till her age now. Great pictures in the book. Great storytelling I LOVED IT.
