Resurrect Hope from the Ruins Messed up. Wasted. SOL. Some of the terms you may use to describe your life. Your wreckage may be outwardly apparent (dropping out of school, divorce) or it may inwardly fester (anxiety, unwelcome thoughts) where no one can see it. Ruins will stem from poor choices and blatant mistakes, uncontrollable circumstances, or even...obedience to God (though no one ever talks about that ). Are you willing to lean into and learn from the messes? Are you open to going deeper with God, when you'd rather run from Him? Are you ready to rely on Christ when it would be easier to feel sorry for yourself? Turn your worldview upside-down. Discover, as the apostle Paul did, the inexplicable ability to have nothing...and yet have it all.
This book challenged me to keep looking to God in the difficult times of life, whether because I chose sim and this consequences or because k chose to follow God and difficulties arise because of that.
The book makes some great points, such as culture affecting the views of the church and the church being inequipped to handle broken people. I found the writing distractingly choppy, going back and forth between writers and verses and examples. I stopped reading a few chapters in because it just didn't flow and started seeming repetitive. Still, others might find this book helpful so it might be worth a try for you. Maybe I'll give it another chance another day.
