In this YA story, High School Juniors, Jordan and his best friend Rose have been friends since childhood. Rose has a crush on Jordan yet he seems oblivious. Along with friends, they form a band for a talent contest. A follow-up concert at a charity event may provide an opportunity to publish their songs and sell them on the internet. This story explores romance, young love, and family interactions as our protagonists learn family secrets in their search for success in their music and their personal lives.
Given the ages of the characters, the story does not involve any explicit sex. Young adult readers should be comfortable reading this book.
Daring Diane is a favorite author. Her Cheerleader and Bullied Boy series focused on the cross dressing. This story is more real, more intimate, and teases the reader. The reader is given spoilers very early on. The joy of this book is not what happens, but how and when things will be revealed, and how will people react when they are revealed.
It's not hard to figure out Kristin Martin, but the suspunse is in how and when this secret will be revealed. This is the first book in a series, and many things are left for the next book, but the first book is a wonderful delight.
I have enjoyed the bullies series of daring diane as well as sorority house fire and Kappa Delti girls. What I like about those is that the story premises are realistic, which isn't always the case in TG - fiction. This one, even though it is the first of a series has me interested more than usual as just like in the bullies series there is a boy reluctanly accepting that he looks a lot like his mother and his already childhood best female friend falling in love with each other. As a sapphic transwoman I wonder, whether there might be a representation for the few people like me I know for once outside of my own books.
Jordan and his friends form a band in tribute to the old band The Tutus. Only then do they find out from his father that Jordan's late mother was part of the group. The new group are a big hit and this is the first part of their story
Another fantastic storyline from this amazing author she seems to explore her characters in great depth showing detailed emotion in script form. Hope there will be a follow up.
This was a fine story good plot, good detials. romance and captivateing great story. Could not stop till the end. looking for the next adventure ! Keep them going
Yet another wonderful book that pulled at my heartstrings and in so many different directions that it, at times, was rather painful but well worth it.
Apparently I am becoming addicted to Daring Diane's books. Which so far is not a bad thing I just hope that it's not too long before book number two is released and I look forward to it being released and reading it as soon as possible.
I've said it before and I will say it to you again here - well done!
