His family history bore blood on its paws, but he was destined for greater than the evil planned. Ashur Michaels, the lost Lycan with a war to fight and a battle to win, goes barreling claw-first into a world among mortals, to uncover the truth of his African lineage, and stop it from planting further seeds to infect the world. Tossed into a world of beasts and magic, Ashur must fight his nature, his true father, and an intrinsic connection to a celestial power that comes back unannounced.
Enthralling! You won’t want to put it down. This book blew me away, and I admit to having read it several times since I received my copy. Wolves with origins in Africa? It’s hard to believe that this is Mr. Leone’s debut effort. He's done an amazing job. We meet Ashur Michaels as he’s running away from home for the umpteenth time. As a foster child, he's led a rough life and unbeknownst to him, this is the night that his life is changed forever. He’s bitten by a wolf and not just any wolf, an ominous one. Not only is Leopold Bane Ashur’s absent father he's without a doubt the villain that we're going to love to hate. I was exasperated because after he inflicts the bite that propels Ashur’s journey into lycanthropy, he fades into the background offering no guidance and for a moment Ashur is left to discover and embrace who he is with the help of Detective Boric Tat’e. Leopold reappears just in time to mysteriously transport Ashur to the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, where he chooses to inform him that he is indeed of Alpha blood and the legacy must continue. The book begins with a history of the Banes and ends with their rivalry with the Tat’es. I was so immersed in the narrative, that by the time I read the last word, I had to scroll back to the introduction to verify that this is in fact, a work of fiction. It’s both intriguing and empowering, and as it provides a deep insight into the history of the packs I couldn’t help but wonder if there’s more to Ashur and Boric’s relationship. Ashur’s dry sense of humor and witty quips are a breath of fresh air and he certainly keeps Boric on his toes. I’ve grown quite fond of them. This is one of the most amazing Werewolf stories that I have read. The chapters are lengthy but captivating. I hope I won’t have to wait too long for the next installment in this series. A definite recommend.
