Just. You. Wait

Rate this book
Everybody waits. We wait for a spouse, wait for a baby, wait on our children, wait for our parents. We wait for clarity and direction. We wait on a job, a promotion, a new direction. We wait for hope, for healing, and for miracles. We wait on God. And when we misunderstand what waiting is about, we can get confused about what God is up to. Waiting is one of God’s favorite tools. He can do certain things in our hearts, our lives, and our relationships while we wait―things we cannot experience once we’ve opened the gift we have been waiting for. So just you wait, because everyone takes their turn in the waiting room. It’s a long and painful fact of life, but shortcuts and microwaves aren’t the answer. God is at work behind the scenes in invisible ways you can’t see . . . yet. Just you wait and see how ready you’ll be if you spend your waiting well. Because when your opportunity comes, you don’t want to spend more time on the bench. When you wait well, you can say, “Look out, I am getting ready to shine. Just you wait.” In these pages, Tricia discusses the joy hidden in the discipline of waiting, and the practices of believing God is for you and working on your behalf, even when the work of His hand is hard to find.

I found this book to be relatable in this instant gratification society we live in. Is it the easiest Subject, NO, BUT EVERYONE HAS TO WAIT.
It is a very real look at the fact that there is a bigger story to be played out in LIFE, Mine and yours.
Great weaving of real-time life stories and situations and how GOD uses those in our life if we chose to listen. Made me think, and at the end, made me realize I have some surrendering to do, instead of fight, and be angry and self-seeking in my WAIT. This book is truly for everyone. An easy, enjoyable, relatable lesson to read and relish.

DONT. YOU. WAIT. to pick this up NOW!

So here’s the thing: I’ve read a lot of faith-based books about waiting, and hope, and how to face difficult seasons with grace. A lot of books. A LOT. And while some of them have been helpful, a lot of them have also seemed trite, or took the easy way out of hard questions, or made me feel like the author was only speaking hypothetically, because you could tell they’d never actually been through anything that truly, truly broke their hearts and left them shattered on the ground.

Hear me loud and clear: THIS IS NOT LIKE THAT. Tricia writes with courage and grace and charming levity about the things that have broken her and the people she loves. She gives you hope that you can make it down this road, because she knows it can be done. She doesn’t make light of your struggles, or pretend that the path will be easy, but she lets you know that you CAN survive and you CAN find joy in the journey. This book is wonderfully real, and serious, and hilarious, and hope-bringing. It was the breath of fresh air I desperately needed.

I think I have to say that was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Because I was. And this is.

Every time I read one of Tricia Lott Williford's books, I think, "This is my favorite." And yep, she did it again. This is my favorite.

Just. You. Wait. maintains Tricia's conversation style that I love. Sitting down with one of her books is like grabbing coffee with a (wise and funny) dear friend. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll highlight and re-read. But Just. You. Wait. has this depth that is hard to describe. Between funny anecdotes of her family and heart-wrenching stories of her husband's struggle with alcoholism, Tricia leads her readers to think deeply about their own seasons of waiting and to shift their perspective to a bigger picture of what God is doing while we wait.

I can think of no book more relatable, more practical, more NECESSARY. Grab this one today.

In my opinion, everything Tricia puts on paper is gold. You might be thinking, "Hm, a little dramatic perhaps?" Nope. Not one bit. Gold.

Tricia's ability to make you deeply feel thirteen different emotions in one paragraph is astonishing, to say the least. I often find myself dazzled by her storytelling, and I have a feeling you will be too. It's effortless. She is real and authentic, she is hilarious and lively, and she is wise. Oh, is she wise. Tricia marries the beauty of the everydayness of life with the extraordinary wisdom lying beneath the surface. And she's not afraid to get up in your business, but she definitely lets you get up in hers too.

You'll feel like she's sitting in your living room, talking right to you. Not in a creepy way though. In more like a "how-did-you-know-I-felt-that-way-it's-like-I've-known-you-my-whole-life" kind of way. And that's pretty special if you ask me.

This book is for everyone who has ever struggled with the question, "Why?" And let's be honest, if you have a pulse, you fall into that category.

This book is amazing! Yet again, Tricia brings her down-to-earth honest story of doing this messy. crazy, sometimes-so-hard life with Jesus, Peter, boys and laughter. Lots of laughter! She doesn’t mince words or hide the messiness of the ups and downs. She doesn’t pretend to have it all figured out. In fact, one of my favorite parts is at the beginning where she’s setting up the outline of her book and Peter kindly disagrees. I love Peter’s story of waiting and healing. I love the way Tricia shows that this is how she approaches life but that there are other ways to do this life with Jesus. I love the practical examples, serious advice, hilarious stories which somehow magically always perfectly illustrate some amazing point. I love the suggestions at the end of each of the three sections, which give ideas about how to spend our time waiting. So so so so so so good. Tears of sadness and joy and laughter!

I am lucky enough to have an advanced copy of this book and all I can say is it is worth the wait.

Tricia enters into your heart and your mind and leaves you feeling like you just had coffee with a dear friend because she walks with you. I feel like my thoughts have emotions and my emotions, thoughts.

Something I love is that there is no actual resolution which is actually helpful for me especially as I found myself in the waiting season.

Don’t wait, get this book!

Sometimes in life, we feel like all we do is wait. Wait on answers, wait on things to change, wait on God to reveal himself, wait on our circumstances to change. Having a good attitude while we wait can feel terribly difficult, and disheartening.

The author uses the words in this book to bring so much encouragement to those who find themselves waiting. She encourages from a spot of someone who has been there and understands the pain and discouragement that can come with waiting. The reader can truly identify with the author and will walk away with a renewed spirit during their time to wait.

Wow - This book by Tricia Lott Williford was just so genuine and a pleasure to read! Her stories are real and honest while providing guidance with an "I've been there" tone. I found myself highlighting so many of her words as well as verses she used throughout the book because I know I'll want to go back to find those. I am definitely in a season of waiting right now in my life so this book really gave me some hope. I appreciated that she included many forms of waiting scenarios because, if we are real, most of us are constantly waiting for something. I have a feeling I will return to this book and reference it in the future.

Oh. My. Goodness. It is so rare to have an author that can connect on such a personal level with her readers. Tricia does so flawlessly, making you feel as though she is sitting with you while drinking coffee and hearing your story. Waiting is a hard, sensitive subject that can be one of the harder parts of modern day Christianity. It is where doubt, hurt, and loneliness can set in. Tackling this subject with grace, understanding, and humor is no easy feat. Just You Wait delivers practical advice, humor, and is interwoven with a personal and powerful story of waiting that will bring tears to your eyes and hope to your heart. My favorite part of this was the way that the “great waiters” of the Bible were brought into today, making them relevant, important, and inspiring. I could not put this book down, and you won’t want to either. This book shows what a wonderful gift waiting can be, and how to grow in the process.

Whether you are waiting in the simple (like at the DMV) or for a longing of your heart that God has yet to answer, Tricia’s wisdom interwoven in real life stories is timeless, so relatable. Her authenticity and transparency in sharing stories that have been hard and painful remind you that in the midst of the storm, God is there and still has a plan for you. So grateful for this beautifully written reminder.

My favorite books are ones that make me laugh, cry and think. This book did all three. Tricia has a beautiful way of weaving together her story with thought provoking scripture, surprising humor and heart tugging words. She is easily relatable- the chapter about the DMV!!- so much we read we can nod and say, "yep, been there."

Probably the thing that I love about this book (and her other books) the most is the vulnerability she shows. She doesn't sugar coat the journey with Christian cliches but tells it how it was/is. Her husband's vulnerability in allowing her to share his story of sobriety created a new level of authenticity to her writing. It moved me in a deep way to hear his story sifted through her hands.

Just. You. Wait. is a beautiful book of examining all the different kinds of waiting that we experience in life. Whether humorous or deep heart wrenching accounts of waiting, we are left with hope. That in the waiting. . . there is always hope.

The love of an author and love of her next book is a double bonus! Tricia Lott Williford Heyer has done it again with her newest book, “Just. You. Wait.”

Tricia brilliantly navigates the truths of waiting in a world where instant gratification is the norm and the “virtue” of patience seems to be vanishing. Nonetheless, waiting is simply a part of life!

In Just. You. Wait. the reader will be challenged and encouraged to ask what it is they are longing for; to believe there is work to be done in the waiting and to have faith that God is in fact at work!

Tricia and husband Peter open the window into their lives through raw, heartfelt stories that will bring tears to your eyes, test your heart, equip your to-do toolbox and increase your faith in The One who holds your future in His Hands!

I simply adore this book!

This amazing book landed in my hands during a season of life I felt I was soaring through, yet one I would have never chosen and was waiting for God to move me on through. It found me when I had chosen "Dwell" as my word of the year...I knew I was to stay and wait where God has me, but was losing heart and hope for change. Tricia's words are salve for the waiting soul--the soul that trusts in God yet is hurting, aching, and waiting for the beauty to rise from the ashes. She provides encouragement through stories that bring laughter and tears, authenticity and raw emotion. With each page, I felt more & more as if I was sitting with a best friend, who really understood my pain, and wanted to help me through it with her story, God's living Word, and practical things to start doing- as she suggests these action steps to see you through the wait and provide a changed perspective. She reminds me of all the things my waiting heart so desperately needed reminded of, because sometimes in the long pause, eyes need redirected. Tricia does just that in the most loving and wonderful way on every single page of this book, that I just didn't want to end. Yet, when I turned that last page, I felt different and stronger in the wait from Tricia's fortifying words. You will be stronger too, no matter what wait you find yourself in, you need this book as much as I did!

“Waiting is a big deal to God. It’s one of God’s favorite tools to get our attention.”

“There is always work to be done in the waiting.”

Waiting is never easy. Tricia’s words help bring perspective to our waiting. Trusting the Lord is for us in the waiting. With both Peter and Tricia’s stories of waiting and seeing what God had on the other side of their pain, brings hope to the reader. Everyone waits, everyone should read this!

We will all experience seasons of waiting -- some waiting seasons will be/are exciting, others will be/are excruciating. Tricia covers the highs and lows of waiting with grace and God.

The pages made me laugh and cry, reminisce and remember, jump for joy and continue to heal my wounds. A lot like the Jim Valvano quote “if you laugh, think and cry — that’s a full day.” It’s what this book will give you...a full, hope-filled day.

Her words will equip you for the hard seasons of waiting and give you so much hope for your life when you emerge. About 1/3 of my book is highlighted; yours will be too!

I loved Tricia's previous book "You Can Do This" and this new one did not disappoint. I devoured every word. Tricia weaves her own personal story of waiting into chapters alongside those of her now-husband's, as he waited on his journey to sobriety. This book is less a memoir and more a friend putting her arm around the reader and encouraging them as they wait.

While the subject matters discussed in the book are heavy, the reading never takes on that quality. I breezed through chapter after chapter, having to slow myself down to not miss any of its goodness. This is a book to read hi-lighter in hand!

I received an advanced copy of this book, which will be released next month.

Just. You. Wait. Is a book to help you understand how to wait well. To better understand the purpose in the waiting we have in life. That you aren’t alone on the wait. That you aren’t the only one waiting. That in all of life’s waiting, heart break, and/or confusion, God has not forgotten us. It’s a book that talks to the widow/widowers heart, the couple that longs for a baby, the one fighting addiction, anyone that finds themselves waiting because of a life circumstance. It’s a book that gives you purpose and hope in the wait. Learning to wait well is a gift because of what happens in the waiting and what happens after the wait.

I have followed along with Tricia’s writing for years, and was so excited to see she had a new book coming out. Let me just say this book does not disappoint!!! The concept behind the book is this: We all wait. We don’t all wait well. What if we could change that?

Through complete openness, and at times gut wrenching honesty, Tricia shares her own journey of waiting through seasons of devastation, times when it seemed like God was far away. Through these seasons she learned the beauty of waiting.

In waiting you take a journey. You start at longing. Longing for what is missing, what you’ve lost, what seems far away. Through longing you move to becoming, becoming a version of you that didn’t exist before the waiting, but a beautiful version if you wait well. From becoming you move to awakening. Awakening to life after the waiting.

God does something beautiful during our waiting, something we could never have imagined before it started, and while waiting is oftentimes painful, if we can learn to wait well, we can emerge from the wait a stronger version of ourselves we never new could exist.

Hate to wait? Then this book is for you! In our lives, it’s not a matter of if we will wait for something but more importantly, understanding there can be a purpose for us in our waiting. Waiting for something can be painful. It can leave long-lasting scars. Through her deeply personal stories, with humor and wisdom, Tricia is the big sister you never had or the next door neighbor who will make time for you. She sits with you in your hurt, but does not make light of what you’ve gone through. With honesty and vulnerability, she shares her own journey. She gives you a fresh perspective on what it means to wait. Tricia is real and relatable and genuine- and that shines through in her writing. This is a book I whole-heartedly recommend!

As usual, reading one of Tricia’s books is like catching up with an old friend. I take away ideas for my own family, wisdom for the chapters I haven’t yet lived, and laughter for all of the parts in between. She is easy to relate to and I’m confident you will finish this book feeling encouraged!

Tricia’s ability to simultaneously strike and soothe the human heart is nothing short of extraordinary. Her latest book, Just. You. Wait., caught me off guard. I wasn’t particularly struggling with impatience when I turned to the first page—or so I thought. But I soon discovered I needed this book. Everyone needs this book.

In her well-loved style of raw authenticity, gentle wisdom, and quirky humor, Tricia avoids offering trite answers to the unanswerable heartaches that unmoor us and leave us waiting, shaking our fists at God and life and ourselves. Rather, she offers quiet, poignant insights that make you suck your breath in—and ponder and wrestle and shift, just a bit. As I face my own season of waiting, with patience and hope sorely lacking in my own soul, I am grateful for the gift of Tricia, who has gone before me and paved the way, illuminating the waiting path that I—and each of us at different seasons—must walk.

A bonus gift: Brillianly woven into Tricia’s story is that of her husband, Peter, who invites readers into his own journey with the kind of honesty and humility that makes you want to know more people like him.

I am not the same for having read these pages. Thank you, Tricia & Peter, for sharing your own seasons of waiting to lighten the burden of mine.

I wasn't ready for this book. I thought it would confirm all I knew to be true about waiting, trusting and remaining in the journey, something I've prided myself on doing, sometimes well, sometimes not so much. I was blindsided by this one. In fact, you might even say I was set up! Tricia's book came across my path at just the right time for me, and yes, it did confirm quite a bit, but it also reminded me of some things I'd forgotten, and spoke a few words I desperately needed to hear. It is a very honest and raw look at life in the midst of waiting for that next thing, big or small, or just different. If you are currently in a season of uncertainty or waiting, struggling at times it feels like for your very next breath, grab this book. It will both comfort and encourage you.

As I sat, pen in hand, the way I read all my books, I was drawn to ponder "the waiting game" in ways I had never even thought of. The disciplines of waiting and believing are real and hard sometimes, and Tricia taps into every area of "the wait" so beautifully and transparently.

A great read. Be prepared to find yourself searching your soul with a box of tissues by your side for both the happy and the sad tears.

I recommend this book to anyone that wants to discover that "God is for you and working on your behalf..." especially during the waiting.

In full disclosure, I received a copy of this book for free, in order to help get the word out before it is released. Even if I had not, I would still say "You need to stop what you are doing and get yourself a copy" Tricia Lott Williford, Writer and Author, once again you have outdone yourself.

This book is about a topic we often don't hear much about today. Waiting. We live in an instant gratification society, so being told to "Wait" isn't the norm. Yet we need to wait an awful lot in our lives - this book talks about the wait. The time in between, the we don't know where this is going yet - the unknown. It talks about the Great Waiters of the Bible, and what we can learn from them. To me, it most importantly says that it's ok to be in the "Wait". To live there, to thrive there. To Be.

Go get yourself a copy.

Sometimes you read a book and you just aren't quite sure what to share about it. Just. You. Wait. by Tricia Lott Williford is one of those books for me. This book can help you work through some stuff that you've been dealing with which is kind of amazing considering it's more of a memoir than a self-help book. Most every chapter is a story of waiting and what has or hasn't happened in the midst of that waiting. There are three stages of waiting that are explored in this book: longing, becoming, and awakening. Overall, Williford does an excellent job of exploring these three stages all while pointing to the One that is in the midst of our waiting and is the answer to our desires.

Just. You. Wait. shares stories of waiting that range from fishing, to the DMV, to marriage, to deliverance from addiction. The reason why these stories all work is because she is deeply invested in each of the stories that she shares about even when they aren't her personal story. One of the things that surprised me is that by reading through all these stories, I was able to come to terms with some of my own personal waiting.

We all have things that we thought would happen or that we desire to be different. One of the things that Williford points to is that it's not in the receiving of the things we most desire that we encounter God, but it's in the releasing them to God and allowing them to be answered as God wills that we achieve understanding, peace, contentment. This book does an excellent job of helping you to walk through those stages of longing, becoming, and awakening.

I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of review from the author. I'm never required to leave a good review, but I'm always thankful when I can.

In a world where instant gratification is the expectation, there are still moments when we all wait. Why do we have to wait? Tricia Lott Williford has brilliantly addressed the topic of waiting, whether you are waiting in the line at the DMV, or waiting for your prayers to be answered. There is so much to be learned in the wait.
This book is filled with laughter, honesty, and encouragement as she opens her life experiences and the experiences of those she loves the most and what they have learned through their wait. Just.You.Wait is written as if you are sitting around the table talking with a close friend. Be ready to smile, laugh, cry and potentially say “me too” as you read through the book. Have your highlighters ready because the nuggets of wisdom are endless. This is a must read!!!

Tricia Lott Williford's easy, down-to-earth writing style is back in Just You Wait: Patience, Contentment and Hope for the Everyday. Waiting is hard, especially waiting on the answer to our prayers. As Tricia takes us through not only her story but also her husband Peter's (Mr. Chapter 9) story, she brings her trademark humor, grace, insight and wisdom to the table, and reminds us that just because God is saying "Wait" doesn't mean that He is saying "No." And while the wait may be long at times, there can be joy in the journey.

Spending time in the pages of one of Tricia's books is like sitting down to coffee with an old friend. She makes you laugh until you cry with her stories of raising her boys. There are tears as you read about the loss of her husband very suddenly, leaving her a widow with two small boys just two days before Christmas in 2010. And the joy that literally leaps off of the pages as she talks about meeting and marrying her husband Peter will remind you that at the end of the storm is the brightest of rainbows.
