This is a book about motivations - internal v. external. It's funny that it's about turkeys.

2.5 stars --A mix-up common to Thanksgiving stories occurs when a "tender" turkey thinks she is set to be the guest of honor at the King's feast, until she is informed that the castle is planning on putting her ON the table, not AT it! What will the sweet-natured bird do?

I liked that there was a theme that turkeys don't want to end up as dinner, even though this wasn't really the main point of the book. Rather, the theme is that being a "tender turkey" (loving, caring, and compassionate) is much better than being "tough turkey" (a bully). A nice way to expand on this theme IMO is to be both a "tender turkey" in your dealings with others and be tender TO turkeys and choose to leave them off our plates.

The book concludes with the happy surprise that the King has appreciated his turkeys' efforts to be "tender" in personality and our heroine is invited to sit down and enjoy the feast. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear the King has chosen to be as merciful to his kingdom's other creatures, as there's a whole fish and a ham on the table. Where's the tenderness?
