This is an ambitious tome on the history of mapmaking that is brilliant at times, but largely failed to live up to my expectations.

Berg has clearly done a painstaking amount of research and expresses his ideas well, but the organization of the book and the number of pages apportioned to different areas of content is in no way aligned with the significance that content holds for the topic.

There is a near-absurd amount of text dedicated to the mapping of Scandinavia in this book, and almost none to other regions which were far more important to history during the time period that was being discussed.

I kept waiting for the author to explain this (surely this is tied to particular breakthroughs in the field?) But alas, such reasoning failed to materialize. This is clearly a pet subject of the author’s and should have been a separate book dedicated to this subject specifically.

Certainly, the book has some bright spots. The section on the first atlases was fascinating, though it too was plagued by Scandinavia-heavy content.

It is also important to note that this is a book primarily about mapmaking, not maps. Trust me, you’ll find there is a significant difference.

I am somewhat disappointed. Knowing the author to be Norwegian, I did expect some Norwegian-Scandinavian "focus", however, I didn't think it would be so much like that! There's simply too much and detailed information related to Norway. Honestly, I thought it would be more universal or something, but it's too "patriotic", too self-absorbed with its "localness", and therefore contains a lot of parts simply uninteresting and boring for an average reader of the world. The illustrations, maps are not all that great really. They are too small to be able to analyze them in detail. Ok, I understand, this is a limitation of the medium: to print a map that was originally metres long and wide on one or two book pages. But also, they never seem to be in the right place compared to the text: like some maps are several pages before they are actually referenced in the text, or the other way around. Or some are not even referenced in the main text. Or sometimes the text talks about some interesting map, but there's no image of it. Quite frustrating. Some parts are interesting though. I really liked the long and detailed account on the northwestern passage expeditions. But then again, for example, there's almost no word about Magellan and his famous voyage around the world! Which ultimately proved that the earth is round, I guess a relevant idea and point for the subject of the book. No, nothing on this. But all the more talk about Norway, of course.

I'm fascinated with maps, cartography, early explorers, and Scandinavia. Though this is a tremendous work, I found it too North-centered and not comparative enough.

Вообще, я на удивление насладился этой книгой. У меня было два подхода - сначала мне книга показалась слишком похожей на википедию - "вот было такое, потом было такое", без критической глубины. Но второй подход дал мне что-то совсем другое. Я вдруг почувствовал картографию бабочкой в своих ладошках. Существом, которое проходит через всевозможные метаморфозы, а узоры на ее крыльях - фрактал, в котором хранится полная история всего, маленькая копия вселенной.

В книге еще, как минимум, много фан фактов -
* карты звездного неба и карты потусторонних миров появились раньше, чем карты земли
* первые картографические наработки древних шумеров (6т лет назад) - до сих пор с нам (например делить на 360 градусов)

Много историй о людях:
* как исследователи замерзали во льдах на многие месяца в поисках Северо-Западного прохода
* как исследователи обманывали сами себя и своих заказчиков
* как картографы крали друг у друга
* как Ломоносов открыл атмосферу Венеры


Много удивительных инженерных изобретений -
* как хронометры (буквально почти наручные часы) изменили навигацию
* как приделывали первые камеры к первым самолетам


Много было крайне неожиданных мыслей о современной картографии (которой я сам занимаюсь).
* Как с монетизацией карт мучались не только мы, а буквально все, кто занимался картами
* Как заниматься чем-то не зная историю - это гарантировано наступать на грабли
* Как когда работаешь на самом фронтире знаний и технологий - важно уметь думать оооочень глубоко и очень концептуально. Тут поможет только философия (и история). Я теперь неиронично считаю, чтобы быть успешным на рынке как картографический продукт - надо нанимать философов (философов технологий, науки, земли). Когда стану CEO большого картографического проекта найму в компанию философов.


И еще заметки о картах и колониальности. Сразу хочу сказать, что всякие утверждения, что колониальность случилась благодаря картам - это очень глупое утверждение, примерно равное тому, что сказать что язык или письменность - это причина колониальности. Оно не ложное, просто бесполезное (даже скорее вредное).

Во вторых - это оооочень, очень европоцентричная книга. Я немного в шоке от того, как в 21 веке можно написать историю европы и назвать это историей мира. Я не то чтобы осуждаю автора/издателей итд и не хочу заниматься морализаторством, просто забавно как можно быть таким слепым к 4/5 земли (которую ты и изучаешь) и обидно, что есть столько всего интересного вне европы, о чем мы не узнали. Было конечно что-то про арабов, но только в контексте того как это использовалось европейцами. Было упоминание одной женщины инуита, у которой карта была лучше чем все что пытались сделать европейцы - и это просто упомянуто между строк?!

Теперь неожиданный поворот - это очень норвегия-центричная книга, так как автор норвежец. Читал много отзывов, где читатели были недовольны этим. Тут что удивительно:
1. норвегия считает себя не совсем европой, отдельной и самостоятельной и даже угнетенной остальной европой (много было о том, как европейские картографы игнорировали достижения норвежцев, как игнорируется открытие америки викингами).
2. недовольство (рускоязычных) читателей - показатель, как что либо отдаленное от центра повествования в центре европы воспринимается как уход от объективности. Так что в каком то смысле норвежская версия истории - это деколониальная перспектива.

Nie jestem pewna, czy przebrnęłabym przez tę pozycję, gdyby nie moja miłość do geografii. Ta książka to bowiem ogromny (naprawdę ogromny!) zbiór faktów i szczegółów.

Autor zabiera nas w podróż nie tylko po Norwegii, ale przede wszystkim po dziejach kartografii oraz pokrewnych jej dziedzin. Czy można jednak zebrać całe lata historii w zaledwie kilku rozdziałach?

Thomas Reinertsen Berg systematyzuje naszą wiedzę na temat map i pokazuje jak różnorodne przyjmują one formy. Poza tym prezentuje cały proces ich tworzenia a także konsekwencje z tego wynikające. Mapy budujące naszą historię są niezwykłe. Dostarczają nam wielu informacji na temat nie tylko dawnego, ale i obecnego otoczenia człowieka. One po prostu sprawiają, że każdy z nas może utożsamiać się z konkretnym punktem na ich płaszczyźnie.

Wydaje się Wam, że wykonanie jednej mapy to proces szybki i przyjemny? Oj nie! Gdzieś między wierszami autor świetnie ukazuje drogę postępu kartografii. Od pierwszych rysunków naskalnych, przez dokładniejsze obserwacje i obliczenia astronomiczne, aż po współczesne mapy odczytywane na telefonach komórkowych. To nawet nie jest praca jednego człowieka a całych grup osób, które z pasją i zapałem wyznaczały co jakiś czas nowe ścieżki.

Warto zaznaczyć, że Wydawnictwo Znak wykonało kawał dobrej roboty jeśli chodzi o wydanie tej pozycji. Większy format pozwala na dostrzeżenie szczegółów zawartych na poszczególnych mapach a sam projekt okładki autorstwa Anny Niklewicz, to dla mnie strzał w dziesiątkę. Przyciąga wzrok i rozbudza wyobraźnię.

Muszę przyznać, że mnie przeszkadzało jedynie to, że wyjaśnienia przypisów znajdowały się na samym końcu, przez co ciągle musiałam przerzucać kartki zamiast skupić się na lekturze.

Moim zdaniem nie jest to książka dla każdego. Nie każdy bowiem odnajdzie się w tej całej masie różnorodnych historii. Należy wziąć pod uwagę fakt, że znajdują się w niej liczne odniesienia do książek innych autorów i inteligentnych poglądów uczonych. Czasem to przytłacza. Wtedy należy odłożyć czytanie na bok a do lektury wrócić po jakimś czasie. Tej pozycji nie da się przeczytać na raz. Trzeba się nią delektować.

Po zakończeniu lektury ciągle mam w głowie pytanie: A co jest Twoim środkiem świata?

Na koniec dodam, że to idealna pozycja na prezent dla wszystkich osób, które uwielbiają nieco akademicki styl pisania i tematykę szeroko pojętej kartografii. Święta się zbliżają, więc wiecie co robić!

I knew this book was going to be a 2/5 a few chapters in, and I kept reading partly for the occasional interesting fact or anecdote, but mostly out of stubborness. This won an award for best Norwegian nonfiction in 2017 and received stellar reviews. I think that says more about the state of Norwegian nonfiction than this book.

A lot of reviews have pointed out that this book is far too centered on the Nordic in general and Norway in particular. I read it in Norwegian and fully expected this, so that was not an issue at all for me. Berg writes in the introduction that he gives extra attention to Norwegian maps because few map histories do that, which is fair. There were other reasons I did not like this book.

This book hit a massive pet peeve of mine from the get-go, when Berg wrote about maps in Ancient Greece and Rome. It followed the simple narrative you get when you learn about Greece and Rome in middle school: The Greeks did science for the sake of science, and the Romans were pragmatic imperialists who just did science to further their imperial ambitions. And it's not that there isn't some truth to this, but it is far from the full picture, and I immediately felt like the research didn't have much depth. The problem of course is that when you don't like how an author has handled a topic you know something about, you're less likely to trust what they say about topics that you don't know. The benefit with journalists writing on academic topics is meant to be that they sacrifice some academic nuance and rigour for engaging and accessible writing, but this book sacrifices too much rigour for not-good-enough writing. Much of the book reads like a recitation of facts rather than a coherent story, and at times I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration by how little he discusses his sources. He describes the inner life of people who have been dead for half a millenia without telling us how he knows - letters and diaries perhaps? - and then uses this to extrapolate "If he knew x, surely he would have thought y"-moments.

There are some fun bits, because the history of maps is actually pretty interesting at times. I am always here for petty Renaissance drama. But all in all, I would not recommend this book.

Lekcje geografii wspominam różnie. Raz byłam pełna energii do nauki i poznawania nowych zagadnień, innymi razy szłam jak na skazanie. Każdy uczeń to zrozumie. Niemniej jednak geografia od zawsze miała to coś, co mnie przyciągało, ciekawiło. Jestem typem człowieka ciągle głodnego wiedzy.

„Mapy to obrazy świata - to świat w obrazach. Każda mapa w tej książce reprezentuje inny sposób widzenia świata, począwszy od spekulacji Greków po wiarę średniowiecza, od empirycznej, naukowej i obiektywnej kartografii renesansu po gromadzenie olbrzymich zasobów danych w epoce cyfrowej. Wszystkie mają tę wspólną cechę, że sposób, w jaki obrazują świat, wiele mówi o tym, co było ważne i co było możliwe w czasach, kiedy powstawały.”

W książce „Teatr świata. Mapy, które tworzą historię” przyglądamy się jak powstawały mapy, przy pomocy jakich narzędzi oraz co kierowało ludźmi w czasach ich powstawania. Zagłębiamy się nie tylko w czyste dane, lecz także w szerszy rys historyczny. Autor prowadzi nas krok po kroku przez tę fascynującą opowieść, wzbogaconą o liczne ilustracje. Wprost nie można się oderwać od lektury.

„W czasach naszych ojców mapa była kosztownym klejnotem, który sklejano, przechowywano i dziedziczono. Obecnie jest przedmiotem codziennego użytku, którym posługujemy się, który wykorzystujemy i kupujemy nowy.”

W dzisiejszych czasach korzystamy z map praktycznie codziennie i bardzo często nawet nie zdajemy sobie z tego sprawy. Sprawdzamy trasę autobusu, którym będziemy jechać pierwszy raz lub sprawdzamy gdzie znajduję się nowo otwarta restauracja, która nas interesuje. Nasze telefony również nagminnie korzystają z lokalizacji położenia. To wspaniałe, że proste rysunki naskalne ewoluowały w rzecz codziennego użytku, tak wspaniałą i przydatną. Ludzkość musiała przejść naprawdę długą drogę do tego momentu, w którym się znajdujemy obecnie, niejednokrotnie napotykając trudności. Ta książka pokazuje również jak zdeterminowany jest człowiek, co jest w stanie zrobić, aby osiągnąć upragniony cel, który nierzadko znajduje się bardzo daleko. To opowieść również o sile człowieka, o pasji i inteligencji.

Szczerzę polecam tę książkę wszystkim, którzy choć trochę interesują się tematem. W tej pozycji znajdziemy również liczne ciekawostki dotyczące nie tylko powstawania pewnych przedmiotów.

The forward does forewarn it: this has been translated from Norwegian, so there is a big focus on Scandinavia, to the point where the marketing seems misleading. I didn’t mind that focus, though, since one of the points of the book is how localized maps were for centuries, each one drawn with that place as the center of the world. It’s hard to step back in those shoes and imagine the world without the full picture, and these maps helped me do it.

Theater of the World: The Maps That Made History tries to tell the story of the development of map making, starting with the ancient Assyrians up to the modern GPS age.

As a whole, this book does a good job of explaining the development of better and more accurate techniques throughout the ages; however, this is a translation of a Norwegian book, and especially from the middle ages on, becomes more about mapping the Scandinavian peninsula than the rest of the world.

Unless you are interested in the details of mapping the Scandinavian peninsula, you might want a book with a more world wide view.

Gosh, I expected to like this. I enjoy looking at maps, reading about unknown (to me) places, learning new things, history, geography, in short everything that this book was about. But it took me forever to read because it kept putting me to sleep. Literally. In fact one night when I couldn't get to sleep I purposely read a couple pages, found I was getting sleepy & could go to bed & sleep! Which is a real shame because there was interesting information in this book but it was a struggle to get to, maybe due to the writer's style or the translator's which made most pages a slog

I Verdensteater skriver Thomas Reinertsen Berg kartenes historie. Vi går fra hulemalerier i fordums tid til moderne satellitter. Vi får vite mye om middelalderens kart og datidens kartografere. Boken er kanskje litt for fiksert på Norge og jeg syns kartene (nydelige og detaljerte som de er) burde vært fold-outs. I boken stjeler midten av dobbeltsidene for mye. Likevel en lærerik bok for kartnerder.

Elsket denne boka, som en kart og lett historie fan var dette en dritbra kombo. Meget bra skrevet og gir verken for lite eller for mye informasjon i hvert kapittel og følger den historiske utviklinga av kart fra hulemalerier til moderne satelitt kart. Helt klart verdt å lese om du liker å sitte å utforske detaljer i kart og om du ønsker å forstå hvordan utviklingen av verdensbildet har gått.

Very interesting and inspiring book. Unfortunately sometimes weird translations show up and the depicted maps are placed far from the texts that describe them.

Unfortunately, this book also tells almost solely about Western cartography, and doesn't tell us much about the use of maps in/by different cultures outside of Europe and North America.

I found this book through my library e-book suggestions when the one I wanted was already checked out and I am so glad I did. It’s an extensive history of cartography with many interesting characters and events. I particularly like the Norwegian slant because I don’t think it’s often translated into English and the history of Norwegian map making can represent every nationalistic/border debate. The illustrations are also wonderful.

Wereldtheater, De geschiedenis van de cartografie door Thomas Reinertsen Berg

Hoe moet het zijn om op een plaats op te groeien waar je enkel maar de omgeving kent van de dingen die je rondom ziet. Je ziet je huis, buren, straat, omliggend land… Misschien wel bergen in de verte, een rivier vlakbij… Maar je hebt totaal geen kennis van wat er zich achter die bergen bevindt, geen idee vanwaar de rivier komt noch waar ze naartoe stroomt. Laat staan dat je enige notie hebt hoe groot (of klein) je land is. Beter nog: je hebt totaal geen weet dat je op een bol, een planeet, de aarde leeft!

Met deze verrassende gedachte begint het boek Wereldtheater van de Noor Thomas Reinertsen Berg. Terugkijkend naar de beginselen van de cartografie bedenkt hij dat de mensen zo moeten geleefd hebben: men had kennis van hun eigen nederzetting en eventueel een naburige al dan niet vijandige stam die achter de bergen woonde, maar verder droeg hun kennis van de geografie nauwelijks. De mens was toen al nieuwsgierig en ging op verkenningstocht om de onontdekte landen (en zeeën) te exploreren. Het optekenen van deze bevindingen bleek belangrijk voor de handel, de oorlogvoering en voor het innemen en exploiteren van een nieuw stuk land.

Berg wijdt aan elke grote cartografische stap voorwaarts een hoofdstuk. Zo zijn de hoofdstukken over Mercator (met correcte projectietekeningen) en Ortelius (met de eerste atlassen) boeiend om te lezen temeer omdat ze zich afspelen in mijn eigen regio Antwerpen. Elk hoofdstuk beslaat dus een bepaalde tijdspanne van de cartografiegeschiedenis en dit rondt Berg dan telkens af met meerdere pagina’s over hoe in Noorwegen de cartografie evolueerde.

Wereldtheater is een bundeling van vele geschiedenissen. We weten allemaal iets van de omvang van het Romeinse Rijk, hebben zeker Mercator in de geschiedenislessen horen passeren en weten dagelijks Google Maps te gebruiken. Dit boek brengt dit alles handig samen in een chronologische volgorde en maakt dit tot een prachtig en rijk geïllustreerd naslagwerk.

An interesting read. The book looks beautiful, high quality paper, just the right format and stunning reproductions of interesting highlights of mapping from the beginning of human awakening to its environment to the digital age. However, when you start reading the accompanying text you become aware that the author made some choices when setting out the journey through map history and not every choice is the one you would have wanted to take. First, the text it is very Nordic centric. The mapping of Norway, Scandinavia or broader the northern part of Europe and the North Pole gets a lot of attention. And that is interesting when describing periods that area got explored, but less exiting when nothing happened there. And there is a very long history of nothing happening there in the barren thinly populated North. The reader wonders if it would not have been more fruitful to focus on other geographical and historical areas instead. Another issue is the poor placing of the pictures in the text. Reproductions of maps can either be found much before the text or much after the text, but rarely accompanying the text. Those familiar with old maps will be less bothered by all this as they fill the gaps with their own mega-understanding of the subject and except the many zoom-in’s as interesting digressions; but those unfamiliar with the broader picture might struggle and will be looking out to read more on the subject. The complete reference system in the end of the book does give them ample ideas. I’ll still pick the book up to study the illustrations and I am happy to have completed the text although it took me two lockdown’s to get it done!

Historia kartografii to historia cywilizacji. Przygotowując mapy człowiek zawsze wkładał w nie to co miał najlepszego: najnowocześniejsze narzędzia, stan wiedzy, talenty artystyczne. Jak żadne inne dzieło mapa jest produktem łączącym naukę i sztukę, a, jak się dowiadujemy z książki Thomasa Reinertsena Berga, również, nie tak rzadko, politykę.

W książce poznajemy mapy od najstarszych, rytych na kamiennych ścianach, do współczesnych, istniejących jedynie jako zbiór zer i jedynek w pamięci komputera. Materia jest tak obszerna, że nie da się jednak zawrzeć wszystkiego w jednej książce - siłą rzeczy dostajemy tu wybór tematów.

Autor zapoznaje nas z historią kartografii, na początku w tej części, która jest wspólna dla cywilizacji europejskiej, a następnie skupia się na tym co działo się w krajach nordyckich ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Norwegii, skąd pochodzi. Nie wyrządza jednak tym szczególnej szkody czytelnikowi, wszak Wikingowie wielkimi odkrywcami byli, a Norwegia, choć nieznana starożytnym Grekom, miejsce w dziejach Europy zajmuje nieostatnie. Historia poszukiwania Przejścia Północno-Zachodniego, zdobywania Bieguna Północnego, czy odkrycia ropy na szelfie kontynentalnym Morza Norweskiego, to opowieści zapierające dech w piersiach i tak zostały przez autora opisane.

Jest to pozycja obowiązkowa nie tylko na półce każdego miłośnika kartografii, ale też u osób zainteresowanych geografią, historią, astronomią, geometrią i sztuką. Dobrze jest też wiedzieć z czyjego wysiłku korzystamy uruchamiając mapową aplikację na smartfonie i przyjmując jej dostępność jako coś oczywistego.

Jeg elsker kart, spesielt historiske kart. Så hvorfor elsket jeg ikke denne boka?

Jeg har noen teorier. Saken er at Reinertsen Berg nok ikke egentlig er så glad i KART. Han er glad i historien, i verdensbildet kartet viser, og han er veldig glad i personene som lager kartene.

Selve kartene har alt for lite plass her. Jeg vil ha MANGE flere kartbilder, gjerne med detaljer, zoomet inn på spesielt interessante områder. Det er også veldig sjeldent Reinertsen Berg refererer til de faktiske kartene han har bilder av. Det er teksten som er hovedfokus, hans skriftlige beskrivelse, bildene er bare eksemper.

Tok meg over et år å komme igjennom denne boka. Jeg syntes den var utrolig tung i starten-midten. Blir alt for mye biografi om en lang, lang rekke menn som har tegnet kart. Siste tredjedel, når vi kommer over til 17-1800, er langt mer interessant. Fremdeles ikke fokus på selve kartene som informasjonsobjekter, men forfatteren er ganske god på å finne fram til artige anekdoter som gjorde teksten lettere.

So yeah that was actually pretty good. I hadn't planned on giving 4 stars but the later stuff about oceanography etc. pushed it up, maybe 3.5 would be more accurate.

Its written by a norwegian and has a distinct scandinavian /norwegian bias, which the author is completely upfront about. But given the size of the world it would be impossible to give a complete history of all maps so the norwegian specific stuff i simply saw as a microcosm of the world at large. Also norway was heavily involved with arctic mapping.

The illustrations were fine but didn't do much for me but there's a lot of good info in here and it did make me think a lot about how we see the world and how we use maps to try to understand our place in it.

Anyway, the early sections where the driest and took the most effort to get through but overall it was better than i expected from a book about the history of maps :P .
I got this book as a present, still not sure if it was a joke or not ;) .

An interesting overview of the development of maps from ancient times to the present day. Reinertsen Berg writes easily and comprehensibly, the book is logically structured, and to me, who knows little about the subject, the selection seems acceptable. There is a relatively large focus on Norway and the Arctic regions, but that is understandable as this is a Norwegian book.

There is one big problem, however, and that is that the illustrations are so poor. There are simply too few maps. The author often talks about maps that are not reproduced in the book without us getting an explanation as to why, and if he talks about maps that are reproduced, there are no references to where they are. The maps that are rendered seem randomly selected, and they are surprisingly boring.

If you want to learn some history, then the book is ok, but if you just like to look at maps, this is not the book for you.

Jak można puszczać specjalistyczną książkę z błędami merytorycznymi? Oto podana czytelnikowi bzdura. Nie, ja nawet nie wiem jak to sobie autor wyobraża.

"Nad naszymi głowami krążą satelity, które cały czas wysyłają sygnał lokalizacyjny. Nasz odbiornik pobiera informacje z czterech spośród nich, żeby określić, gdzie się znajdujemy. Jeden satelita podaje szerokość geograficzną, drugi - długość, trzeci mierzy wysokość, a czwarty to wszystko zlicza, żeby GPS mógł nam wyświetlić dokładną pozycję. "

Daję trzy, bo dobrze się bawiłam czytając. Naprawdę fascynujące dla kartograficznych świrów. Tylko ile z tego, czego nie potrafię zweryfikować jest prawdą, a ile bezsensem? Nie wiadomo.

Verdensteater er en skatt uten like. Kartenes historie og særlig de mange ulike motivasjonene til å lage nye kart er spennende forklart av Reinertsen Berg. Illustrasjonene i boka er ikke minst noe å nyte; religiøse middelalderske kart der Edens hage er et sted på jord og ulike forestillinger om hvilke mystiske folk og øyer som befinner seg nord for Norge.
Så blir jeg jo ekstra glad når forfatteren helt til slutt sniker inn en Kari Bremnes referanse: «... og tusenvis av bilder lagt inn av brukere fra hele verden sprer seg over skjermen, fra Jerusalem til strendene i Malibu.»

I am somewhat of a closet map enthusiast, so this book caught my eye at the lending library. However, I quickly found myself scanning the chapters, and focusing on the map illustrations themselves, and wishing there were more of them and less of the words. As others have noted, it is heavily weighted to the mapping of Scandinavia. I had just finished Children of Ash and Elm (about Vikings) so this book's northern focus worked for me. I did not have the patience to read all the text, but what I read was fine.

Papirbok. På norsk, bokmål. Spennende, velfortalt om utvikling av kart og verdensforståelse med linjer til politisk, økonomisk og kulturell historie - helt fram til GPS og Google Earth. Bra!

Printes edition. In Norwegian, Bokmål. Intriguing, well told over the development of maps and world views with lines to political, economic and cultural history - right up to GPS and Google Earth. Good book!

Det er ikke alltid lett å si hvor grensen går mellom en fagbok og en populærvitenskapelig bok. Verdensteater pendler litt mellom de to synes jeg, og i deler av boken syntes jeg det ble vel mye oppramsing av fakta uten at jeg opplevde å bli særlig engasjert. Men så kommer det partier der forfatteren kliner til med både spennende og småabsurde historier og som gjorde dette til en god leseopplevelse for meg.

"Verdenskort" er en på mange måder måder interessant og flot fagbog om kartografiens idéhistorie. Bestemt anbefalelsesværdig for den, der har interesse for feltet – selv om bogen skæmmes af nogle irriterende mangler og en til tider smårodet komposition.

Narrazione della storia della cartografia davvero accattivante e ricca di informazioni e aneddoti storici.
Davvero molto bello.
Unica pecca, almeno per quanto riguarda la versione italiana, l'utilizzo dell'articolo davanti ai nomi. L'Ortelio, il Bleau, il Mercatore, il Tolomeo ecc sono brutti da leggere, stridono alle orecchie e rovinano la lettura.
