An exploration of how literature works and how it can illuminate Christian faith by examining human experiences of love, death, mercy, sacrifice, forgiveness and redemption.
Hard to judge because it wasn't quite the book that I thought it was going to be. Rather than being a discussion on the interplay between Christian faith and literature, it was more a discussion on what makes good literature with a few asides of this marries with Christian faith. There wasn't a great deal new (for me) to be gleaned here.
Forde has also compiled a collection of G.K. Chesterton writings and at times his style resembles Chesterton's too closely i.e. sounds clever until you try to unpack it. What do we make of his statement that because the Resurrection is a cause of delight and joy, it cannot be considered serious..."It is far, far more serious than the crucifixion."? Well, that's frankly rubbish, though well-put rubbish.
