Hello!! I want to thank you for perusing! First off, I didn't write Storage Diva--no idea who that is, lol. Second please know that any and ALL books that are upcoming or released that I write are on my website.
Thanks for reading my word vomit and I hope you're smiling at least once a day, it's good for you. A little monsters and mayhem is good for everyone too!
This anthology is off to a good start. I'll update this review everytime I finish a piece.
Hex of a Ride by Shay Cabe (Zoe Parker) So this one is some kind of a prequel to the author's upcoming YA RH Series which is going to be released early next year and I can't wait for more! I've always liked this author's heroine and Evanora is not an exception to this. She may be quiet but has got a strong personality and attitude. I have no issue whatsoever as to why she to distance herself to the guys. And I believe her when she admitted to herself how she can't say sorry for that decision because she really needed that time away from them. PS I want to knock some major sense off these dudes because if they love their bff Nora, her leaving them shouldn't be the first thing to be addressed. I mean, why don't you dumbasses try to get know if she's ok and whatnot. I mean, ffs, her mom just got killed...idk, maybe I'm biased. Hah.
Pack of Misfits by Raven Kennedy First of all, fuck yes! This author has written one of my most recent favorite rh read. Though I have expected it to be funny af, for such a short story, it turns out it packs more than enough angst and steam. Oh and Herrick is one mf I still haven't forgiven so I'll be waiting.
Unlucky Mates by Beth Hendrix and Reika Eli Umm, suffice to say, the title is the very story itself. The poor heroine...how do I say this...let's just say I learned keep my trap shut if I have nothing good to say. And this is me saying nothing to the fucker that is the supposed hero. Fuck you sfm Mancio. I know that the main purpose of this anthology is to give unconditional love and genuine acceptance to monsters and beasts, but the hero is another matter. Yeah, dude's canceled. Sorrynotsorry
Falcon by Ivy Fox So this short, sweet story is a prequel to the author's upcoming Raven series. This one features Raven's best friend Alana who is the more reserved out of the two friends and is in love with Drake, the kind of foreign man Alana and her father accepted into their family of two. Basically, this one has been a great wingman (i.e. prequel) to the series that's going to be about Raven. Alana and Drake gets their HEA so now I'm indeed curious to what's going to happen with Raven, Crow and the royal twins.
Celaeno's Fate by Lacey Carter Andersen From the previous reads and this very one I've had, I think the author works well with short stories. Celaeno's story is one of the most proving stories how a REAL monster is not to be judged superficially. How one mistake or misconception against someone can paint a different, more cruel and unjust picture than the truth. How the actual definition of a monster can take form in a seemingly innocent and young girl like Sarah. And that selfish lying brat Ashley. So far, this has been the closest one to the theme of the anthology. PS Celaeno is a much stronger and kinder person than I am. I often think that if some people consider themselves knowing of me yet the moment when accusations are thrown at me, they easily believe the worst...then they must not really know me. (Like how Papa Rye hasn't given Celaeno the benefit of doubt). Or when a stranger easily believes a rumor about me...then I won't ever give them the chance to eevr know the actual me. (Like Grey). And yet, both circumstances, both people, Celaeno has understood and forgiven them. Celaeno is far far far from being an actual monster.
Endling by Zara Stark Right so, unfortunately, this one I haven't really gotten into and have found myself skimming...I'm not sure, maybe it's one of those it's not you, it's me cases. I mean it. But to discuss briefly, the last gryphon queen was imprisoned for the most part of her childhood and ypung adulthood. Naturally, she seeked for justice when her fellow gryphons finally rescued her out. At least, points for her endurance during her captivity - I think such awful experience shaped her into a better fit for the role of a queen esp when she's not really intended to do so.
Fox Trolls by E. E. Andrews Anja is that type of heroine who attracts a lot of negative type of people. Her mother, three sisters, the councilman on her case...even the three infuriating heroes she's with. Good for her they turn out okay in the end. The most significant character for me though is Nima. She's the stand-up bff and all in all has done pretty much everything in the end. I am really interested in getting to know if the continuation is going to be about her...because that will be greater.
Wild-Eyed Boys by Lidiya Foxglove Uhhh, I love this one, too, so, so much! First of all, this authir is another familiar one for me. And I have loved another material from her so that's def a plus. Then there's the heroine who has a funny and very interesting POV. At the same time, there's the powerful and inspiring story. Ultimately, it is about how "giving up" doesn't always equate to losing or to stepping down. I just love love love the attitude, the message, the whole thing.
Hunting Isla by Grace McGinty I'm weak for single parent stories or something along those lines. Isla might not be the lion cub's biological mom, but she is his mom where it counts. She easily and selflessly takes the responsibility and for that I respect her. I also love how the guys looked for her the moment she vanished to be on the run with Bohdie.
All For One by Helene Gadot We've got a strong female here. I mean, in my opinion, females are strong in a general sense because first and foremost, we thrive in such an unfair system dominated by males...most of them either the bullies or the ones enabling the bullies. And speaking of males, I'm still not that convinved with the heroes. Such a complex problem with complex consequences that stemmed from a simple thing called miscommunication. Mentally and emotionally, I am still in disbelief with how they left Dart to fend off for herself. In the end, she needed no saving from anyone, least of all from the heroes. Aaaand she def deserved more but if those guys are the ones she needed...then who am I to dictate such matter?
The Sacrifice by Blake Blessing This is non-rh but is not less interesting. How ironic though that just when you're finally free of something, you realize you went out of the frying pan and into the fire? That's exactly how unlucky the heroine is - out of the hands of the abusive relatives but walking into unfamiliar territory only to end up with probably an even more hostile environment. Good thing for Tanzy, Mika is some sort of a semi-noble man among awful predators. Surely, I am excited for the upcoming adventures of these two and their quest to saving the Eukaru people from its current corrupt rulers.
This is probably my first ever try at reading an anthology. It had a total of 22 stories, some good and some not so good but I have read each one, rated and reviewed them down below. If I have to sum it up, there are some stories that do a great job of giving substantial content in the little space they have and there are many that are not as impressive or just boring hence the overall rating of 2.5 stars.
1. Hex Of A Ride - 2.5 stars I can see the potential in this RH story with familiar elements like shifters or witches with a few twists and turns to keep things fresh. Having a history between the Hex boys and Nora gives a little more breathing room to show their somewhat established relationship that didn’t feel too instant.
I’m just not sure if the whole YA juvenile dramatics with the high school scenario is something I’m going to like. It felt too cliched and unoriginal to be interesting. It felt like there is going to be more of that stereotypical drama in the full length book. If that’s something you like then you might enjoy this one.
2. Pack Of Misfits - 3.5 stars There is rarely a time when I think that’s a first after reading so many shifter romance books, this is one of those rare rare times. There is some rather interesting shifter animal for our heroine which I found odd but different. It will take some time not feel like it’s ridiculous but then again a human turning into a wolf or lion is equally ridiculous.
There is some humour and a lot of steaminess, usually I don’t like such insta sex books but this one is not so bad with a natural ease of relationship development between Addie and her guys, it was not bad for the length. I would totally like to read more about them.
3. Unlucky Mates - 1.5 stars This one definitely suffered from the length. It felt too rushed for the space it had, it tried to stuff as much as it could but ends up being too unnatural. I think it would have been much better if the sex wasn’t included.
I would have liked to see more banter and interaction between Mancio and Audrei to negate the whole kidnapping situation. It felt too abrupt to move from kidnapping to sexy times. The story itself is too predictable.
4.Falcon - 1.5 stars At first I was excited to read something more on lines of fantasy but it was just too childish. It read more like a children’s book story if you leave out the sex. It’s not my cup of tea.
The heroine appears too naive and disney-ish; be it in her thoughts or actions. There is being innocent and then there is taking it too far that it appears stupid. The story lacks a sense of activeness, the resolution itself seems so dull.
5. Calaeno’s Fate - 3 stars This one feels like a complete story that has a plot along with romance. It’s a good read with interesting set of characters which can honestly carry a whole length novel.
I liked the inclusion of a murder mystery that perfectly gelled with the romance between Calaeno and her harem. I liked Calaeno and her powers, it was something different than what’s usually seen in the paranormal world. This is probably one of my favourites in this anthology.
6. Endling - 2 stars Even though the beginning really perked up my interest, somewhere once Tempest gets crowned it starts to meander and fizzle out despite some unique paranormal characters.
I liked the idea of a queendom, I just wanted to see more queenly shit in action. It gets monotonous with repetitive inner monologues that aren’t balanced out by some active scenes that is expected when you talk about wars. The harem was the weakest with the lack of chemistry building scenes between Tempest and her guys. It was stiff and awkward.
7.Fox Trolls - 2 stars I thought I was in for another disney style story with how the story starts with a cruel set of sisters and a mother somewhat reminiscent of cinderella’s family. Thankfully it’s not that childish but I felt it lacking when it comes to the harem.
For the crux of the story, there is just not enough wooing from the guys to be satisfactory for the mates thing reveal. The whole thing ends up being lukewarm with common shifter characters that aren’t anything memorable.
8.The Wild Eyed Boys - 1 star Ugh I was ready to embrace the rock and roll scene coupled with magic but sadly this one was executed very poorly. The idea is there but it’s not utilised to the extend it could have been used.
The romance was jarring to say the least. It didn’t make me feel anything, I couldn’t connect with what Sally was experiencing with the guys because there wasn’t much content to actually show that connection. Then there is this awkwardness with them talking about normal shit in between sexy times, it was so…weird. I found the whole plot to be bland, it lacked the zest it needed with all the characters it involved.
9.Hunting Isla - 1.5 stars It’s hard enough to portray a reverse harem in so few pages, adding that with a baby is just a recipe for a weak development overall. I couldn’t feel the maternal side to Isla with such glossed over storyline.
Even the reverse harem wasn’t that interesting, it’s meh. It lacks intensity especially since they are cat shifters and It was all too bland. Even the reunion scene wasn’t all that it could have been.
10.All For One - 2 stars This one tries to create an environment to help add something more to an ordinary run of the mill shifter story. I think it would have been interesting to see this as a full length novel with the inclusion of trials that sadly stayed shallow due to the length restriction.
I found Dart to be a badass but the harem obviously was lacking. There is hardly enough characterisation, not even the typical ones that are usually seen in the RH genre. I found her bestie to be more developed than her guys.
11.The Sacrifice - 4 stars I really hope to have this one in a novel length someday. The story is interesting, there is action and a romance that doesn’t feel like bullshit for the length. I was invested in seeing how they would escape.
Tanzy wasn’t anything different. She was very much plain and yet there is just enough from her character to make her not be boring. The circumstantial chemistry between her and Mika was palpable even if it’s a bit rushed. I want to see more of this couple and this world.
12.Shifting Promises - 2.5 stars This was probably the most organic when it comes to romance, it doesn’t feel rushed or fake for what’s presented. It’s a second chance romance that’s blooming with a promise.
I wasn’t a big fan of the hero or his reasons but at least Kali wasn’t a doormat forgiving him that easily. The plot itself was substantial enough without going into too many details. It works for the story it wanted to tell.
13.Hera’s Gift - 1 stars This is a short story using characters from a series by this author. I haven’t read those books so I couldn’t get a feel for this story as a standalone. The purpose of the story itself isn’t exciting from a new reader’s perspective.
I couldn’t see any chemistry between Poppy and her harem, it’s not like the relationship wasn’t already established but it still felt stiff with their awkward dialogues and barely any action to show the relation dynamics. So much of that already tiny space is spent describing locations and it left very little word count to actually tell the story.
14.Queen Of Thieves - 3.5 stars This was a nice prologue that thoroughly peeked my interest to read this series whenever it comes out. It succeeds in showing a potential story in the few chapters it has.
I think the scenes picked out to showcase a brief view of the series were a perfect blend. Haven and her thieves get enough space to not feel like it’s absolutely ridiculous plus the few glimpses of the wolves definitely got me curious.
15.Hidden Magic - 2 stars It’s a novella from one of the series written by this author. I just felt something lacking despite this one having a much more complete story than some of the others in this anthology.
It’s probably the established aspect, be it the characters or the relationship between Brant and Kat. Everything is just told instead of being shown. I couldn’t feel what the characters already felt when I’m meeting them for the first time.
16.Destined - 3 stars First and foremost this needed a warning about that somewhat graphic abuse scene that took me by surprise. Also there was some weirdness that made me cringe like Luxon thinking of Adrianna as a cousin in the first scene or when Adrianna catches her parents doing the horizontal tango and what she does next instead of thinking ew.
The story itself is not bad, it was action packed and had a lot of movement to it with characters from the author’s series. It was well done for the space it had.
17.One Lone Fox - 1.5 stars There is some potential here, we get a brief insight of a story and a plot that revolves around Phe the special snowflake but Timothy was so bland. Firstly Timothy?! I just can’t with the name.
The whole guardian thing, I couldn’t see why he was a worthy opponent against a shifter pack, he seemed human. I needed to see something from him other than a knife throw to make him a badass.
18.Kaliedescope - 3 stars This is one of those stories I wouldn’t mind reading a full length book about. The characters are shifters with a hint of something more to spice things up. I found the whole soulmate angle to be enjoyable, I’m not sure how well it can be pulled off in a book but what was shown here wasn’t bad.
In terms of world building, the story is pretty good with background details and side characters for the tiny space it had. I was intrigued and wanted to see more of Tensley and her harem.
19.Creating Shifters - 1 stars It’s a very short read that lacked essential details, it felt completely shallow in every aspect; be it the characters or their relationship. To be honest, I didn’t like the mythology fusion of Callisto with Thor, it just left a weird after taste.
It’s too awkward with it’s instant romance and terribly transparent characters like Artemis or Kara. I couldn’t get any feel that it was a story that includes Norse or Greek Gods, there was too much immaturity and naiveness. The ending is abrupt like everything else and it's not even a HEA one at that.
20.Embers Of Oblivion - 1.5 stars I thought the dystopian setting paired with dragon shifters was interesting but that’s where all the good things about the book end.
It’s very flimsy. Why is Piper following the dragons like they weren’t forcing her into their lair like some creepy dudes? How come she develops such a trusting attachment to the said dragons without showing anything to develop those kind of feelings? I get lust, I get survival but this story makes me feel like I skipped a good chunk of the plot moving directly to the third act which ends on a cliffhanger.
21.Heaven In Their Eyes - 1.5 stars The characters' overly goody good attitude seemed way over the top that felt fake and completely disconnected with how the whole tone of the plot was set up.
The main character Emilia is all about telling instead of showing us why it feels different with Lucas or Rylan. The guys only have pretty words for her, it’s all just words and no action. Words that impact her so much to give them a chance, to be “inspired” to take a stand and what not. It’s just not enough to make me feel like I read a good shifter story.
22.Flesh And Bold - 1 stars I’m not sure what was the target audience for this one. It read like one of those children’s fairytale book. It’s too childish in it’s story, characters and even the dialogues.
I wouldn’t mind the shown paranormal characters if they had some kind of twisted gruesome portrayal to what’s normally seen. But no it had to give me my little pony vibes instead. The scenes are so.. bland like the fight between two dragons. I’m just way past reading children’s book so not a fan of this one.
If nothing else these 2 story's were absolutley worth the purchase . Queen of Theives by C.R Jane is pretty awesome ! As always her writing pulls you in , I'm always sad when there is a cliff hanger though !! I started following this author after reading some of her other books and she has never disappointed me with her wordsmithing. Hex of a ride ..not really familiar with her writing but I'm definitely going to start following her. The story line is good and I really hope the next installment comes out soon because I'm already wondering what happens next .
Lacey carter andersen - celaeno’s fate Monster, 3 gargoyles and a curse. It sound interesting already. But we have also witch, angry birds (and not the Rovio’s ones), unexpected attirance, scenes as hot that it might actually burn. Loved this story.
Ivy Fox - Falcon I really loved this story. Drake is tormented and feeling not worth living, what to say about love. Alana is little bit naive, but strong and head over hills with Drake. Plot is interesting: secrets, past, magic and hope are on the plate. You can only love it.
Zoe Parker - Hex of a Ride - 5 stars: I am soooo excited for this new series!!!
Raven Kennedy - Pack of Misfits - 2 stars: I would have given it 3 stars but one of the main characters cheated on the heroine so it kind of ruined the entire story for me.
Lidiya Foxglove - The Wild Eyed Boys - 1 Star
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Hex of a Ride This little story was not near enough for me. I am so excited for the first novel in this series to come out. Gimme more!
Pack of Misfits The misfit pack is all I never knew I wanted in a shifter novel. This story was amazing. I love the MC's shifted form. More please!
Unlucky Mates This was a whirlwind of a story and I need more! The MCs draw you in and make you want to out them in a "get along" shirt. Great story!
Falcon We meet and quickly grow fond of 5 main characters. Just as it seems like our two in love will never admit their feelings... and the twist at the end! I definitely want to read more.
Celaeno's Fate A woman with the power to control birds and shift into a raven meets some sexy gargoyles and shenanigans ensue. Sexy shenanigans.
Endling This story seemed to be over too quickly. I enjoyed it though.
Fox Trolls Oh man, this was a roller coaster. I sure hope there is a book of this somewhere because that simply was not enough of these characters.
Wild-Eyed Boys This was pretty good. Loved the story idea and again, wished it would be longer.
Hunting Isla This was ahhhhhmazing and yes I want to hear more about Vance.
All for One Who knew I wanted Musketeer Shifters? Not me. I loved this idea for a story. Well done.
The Sacrifice This was SO good! Please write more about Tanzy and Mika! I will give you macaroni picture with glitter on them.
Shifting Promises This story was cool like spies mixed with shifters. Fuzzy 007, well done.
Hera's Gift This story was an interesting spin on Greek Mythology. Pretty interesting
Queen of Thieves Great short about a group of Thieves. Possibly in a post-apocalyptic world. Will be keeping an eye out for the book it said 2019.
Hidden Magic Interesting story, wasn't sure where it was headed.. great characters and a surprise at the end.
Destined This story was heart breaking with a happy ending. I'm so glad the ending was happy.
One Lone Fox This story has some serious potential. I would love to read this if it is part of a book. I tried to find it and was unable to.
Kaleidoscope Uhhh, this was awesome. I need more, please tell me this is a book.
Creating Shifters This story was awesome and heartbreaking and I loved how the author connected constellations and myths to make this awesome story.
Embers of oblivion I need more! More more more! That was a great story!
Heaven in their eyes I love this story and the world it was set it. I would love to read more set in this world
Flesh and Bold This was a lovely story, a complete story. It was very nice and I enjoyed that there was a clear ending.
Whilst I haven’t read all of the stories in this Anthology, I’m basing the rating on 2 stories from it, from 2 of my favourite RH Authors, Grace McGinty and Raven Kennedy.
Pack of Misfits (Addie) by Raven Kennedy is Book 1 of the Misfits series and is an RH story, which means Addie will multiple committed life partners. Raven Kennedy has the ability to write a fun story that will make you laugh out loud and has enough back story that makes this a page turner. Addie and at least 2 of her harem (sorry Herrick, I still think you’re got more grovelling to do to be worthy of Addie), and some of the other misfits we meet in this story are likeable and interesting characters. This is quite a different take on a trope and is worth the time investment. It’s a good start to a series and look forward to learning more about some of the characters.
Hunting Isla by Grace McGinty is book 1 of a series. It’s reverse harem, so there will be more than one love interest. It’s a complete story and all of the characters are wonderful and very likeable, especially the bears, who we encounter in another series, and will soon have their own story. This is a gifted Author, who is fabulous at world building and creating memorable characters. Looking forward to meeting all of these characters again in cross over series and stories. This story doesn’t disappoint and is another great story by Grace McGinty.
I don’t know what possessed me to read this anthology. Only first one was readable, and I kind of want to read the rest of this series. Everything else was just bad written garbage.
1. Hex of a Ride by Shay Cabe (Zoe Parker) - prequel - 3* (YA, RH) 2. Pack of Misfits by Raven Kennedy - 2.5* (a little funny, but boring) 3. Unlucky Mates by Beth Hendrix and Reika Eli - 1* (No!, just no!) 4. Falcon by Ivy Fox - prequel - 1* (bad poetic prose, so not for me) 5. Celaeno's Fate by Lacey Carter Andersen - 2* (dark, boring, finished) 6. Endling by Zara Stark - 1* (WTF! unsophisticated, immature writing stile; no editing, the worst book of this year so far) 7. Fox Trolls by E. E. Andrews - 1* 8. Wild-Eyed Boys by Lidiya Foxglove - 2* 9. Hunting Isla by Grace McGinty - DNF 10. All For One by Helene Gadot - DNF 11. The Sacrifice by Blake Blessing – 2.5* (It was OK, compare to the other novellas, cliffhanger did not help thought) 12. Shifting Promises by Jaliza Burwell - 2.5* 13. Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
*This review is currently only for The Sacrifice by Blake Blessing
The Sacrifice is a world building prequel to an upcoming RH series. We are introduced to Tanzy and Mika when human Tanzy runs away from her abusive home life and crosses the wall to the neighboring country. She is taken captive by the Eukara people where she meets Mika and discovers he and his people are shifters. We also meet The Sons, who will be harem members in the series, and are all different kinds of shifters. All the characters were really interesting and unique, I can't wait to learn more about them! I'm definitely intrigued by this new world and its inhabitants and will be (im)patiently waiting for book 1!!!
I started reading this because an author that I am already familiar with is featured in it. I was quite surprised to find that I now have more authors to add to my ever growing lists of favorites. Every story I read kept you on the edge and begging for more. Although I may be partial to some over others in this book I still loved all of the stories and thought all the authors did a great job. I hope to find the completions of some of the stories because let’s face it I just can’t get enough. I ducking love this book and recommend it to everyone. And yes I meant to write the word ducking it was not a typo read to find out why.
This is seriously one of the best anthology series I have ever read! There are several stories that I will definitely buy if they become a series. I planned on listing my favorite stories but I loved them all and that never happens. I can't wait to see what happens in the ones that just ended. I know Zoe Parker, C.R. Jane and Raven Kennedy have plans to make theirs a series but I really hope the others do as well. If you love shifter stories you should definitely check this out!
I really enjoyed the different takes on shifter lore in this book, and every story was unique yet I still fell in love with all the characters! I started reading this book because there was one author, Raven Kennedy, that I recognised and was surprised to find a couple more that I love, Helen Scott and C.R. Jane! Now because of this book I have other authors to explore and I am so excited! I can't wait for some of these stories to continue on in their own books, such as Hex of a Ride which was one of my favorites and believe me I had many!
First story was great until I realized it wasn’t a complete book!!! Seems I added this Anthology to my library sometime back and decided to start reading it.... was so irritated with myself I couldn’t finish it... but I can say I will look for the first story to continue as I was enjoying it... I’m sure the others were just as good but I honestly don’t know, maybe one day I’ll get over myself and take another look....
There were far too many examples of poor writing in this anthology. I have read some sketchy samples of nearly illiterate writing in Kindle Unlimited but this was as if the editors chose only craptastic tales. Bad writing will destroy the most original ideas. This was a waste of my time
I will read anything zoe Parker is involved with and I liked her story in this collection. I enjoyed most of the stories the only negative thing I have to say is that a lot of them that I liked are just preludes to a full story or series so now I am in patient for these to come out. Anyone that likes ya or rh Or whatever will like this book.
I read Raven Kennedy's Pack of Misfits and loved it. The story was great. The characters were awesome. There was lots of puns which was hilarious. I would love to read more about the misfits of Pack Abberant.
I must say that I enjoyed almost every story in this book. A total of 23 stories. I found 1 story to have so many grammatical errors that I could not finish the story. I hope many of these stories become a series.
As far as anthologies go, this one was average. Some good stories, some bad. Most tie into a series. None of the stories made me want to check out the attached series. Too many reverse harem stories for my liking.
I love reading small collections of stories because you find new authors and new books to love. This book was no exception. Found new stories to be on the lookout for and new authors to adore.
All of the authors that came together for this book "thank you". This was a good book filled with amazing stories that I look forward to the next book from those authors.
