Jim Butcher is the author of the Dresden Files, the Codex Alera, and a new steampunk series, the Cinder Spires. His resume includes a laundry list of skills which were useful a couple of centuries ago, and he plays guitar quite badly. An avid gamer, he plays tabletop games in varying systems, a variety of video games on PC and console, and LARPs whenever he can make time for it. Jim currently resides mostly inside his own head, but his head can generally be found in his home town of Independence, Missouri.

Jim goes by the moniker Longshot in a number of online locales. He came by this name in the early 1990′s when he decided he would become a published author. Usually only 3 in 1000 who make such an attempt actually manage to become published; of those, only 1 in 10 make enough money to call it a living. The sale of a second series was the breakthrough that let him beat the long odds against attaining a career as a novelist.

All the same, he refuses to change his nickname.

So much fun!

This is an extremely short story in this long running series. The author offers this story thru his website. In this one Harry and Bob are discussing Harry's current ad.

For a three page story this was fun. Me giving it a three star rating is the highest compliment actually. I cannot give more for a story this short as there isn't much to it. That being said I was really impressed with what the author accomplished in a short time. He gives an insight to both characters and an insight to what this universe is about. While doing this the author made me laugh. As for the overall arc it does not add anything to it.

I did not expect much and it easily surpassed my expectations. This is actually a nice offering for new readers who are considering reading this series. It gives an idea of what this universe is about. As for readers who are already fans it was fun.

I completely forgot to read this between books 5 and 6 so I figured I should catch up now.

This was about Harry trying to pen an ad for his agency. It was short and hilarious, mostly thanks to Bob. Oh, how I love him.

Is it strictly necessary to know this? No, of course not. But getting the author's comment in the beginning about when and why he wrote this plus the actualy short story was kinda sweet.

Vignette is a very short story. It is available free on Butcher’s website and in the Side Jobs anthology. It is a really enjoyable read for any fan of the series. For its length, Vignette does a great job showing the series’ humor series. The puns and cheesy one-liners are there in abundance and it is hard not to chuckle while reading.

The whole story is a short conversation between Harry and Bob. Harry is considering rewording his advertisement in the Yellow Pages and Bob helps him spice it up. No battles, magic or death defying stunts, but the story manages to capture both characters personalities and is a good read.

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good short. It's basically just Harry and Bob chatting about what Harry should put in his ad for his wizarding business. I read it for free on Butcher's website: http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dres...

5-11-20 - This was a reread as I go back through the whole series in prep for the new book coming out in July. This is still a really good short. :)

Bob is hilarious! I could read a daily blog of him and Harry fighting all the time. LOL

I haven't rated it yet as I have to get my thoughts in order before I give it a rating.

It is incredibly short for an addition to the Dresden Files and it's basically just a conversation between Bob and Harry about advertising his business before we get to the start of the series.

I love Harry and Bob's interactions, they're hilarious together, the snark meet perv meet snark meet perv both sides is always entertaining.

But a conversation about him advertising his business, the idea of whether he would do the honest thing and go with the be the books idea or go for a flashy one doesn't do much. There's nothing here for it and honestly it's not enough to even really justify it's creation outside of a free gift (which apparently it was)

So for a free gift bit for the Dresden Files, I'd say 5/5, but to know it's part of a collection and some will buy that collection to hear this. bit of a rip off now. I know it's for free on Butchers site but...eh I wanted to get my copy of it so I did with Side Jobs, I think it's a bit much.
3/5 for the worthwhile part.

There wasn't enough to this story for me to feel one way or another about it.

I love the Banter between Harry and Bob.

(these little short stories are free on the author's website. 3 - 15 pages of hilarity, sometimes more)

This was okay .

If you are new to the Dresden-verse , and you read this as a 'teaser' for Dresden book , you would feel it's cheesy and nothing else , but a fellow disciple of the Dresden religion would love the book for the banter shared between Harry and Bob .

This book is free on the author's website and I read it as part of my journey to read all Dresden books so far released before the release of the new books later this year and this just feels like having sips of your favorite drink and nothing more . So , go ahead have a look , it's short and it's free , whats to lose

Just to clarify, this isn't a book, it's a three minute read. But it is funny. (I'm just surprised to find it here.)

I wasn't expecting to see this entry on Goodreads because it is so short, but since it is here I'll mark it read.

This was a really funny scene with Bob and Harry. Made me think of a second post credits scene in a Marvel movie. Just something light hearted and fun to send off the previous story.

Literally just three pages of Harry and Bob humorously discussing the proposed content of Harry's yellow pages advert.

“Evil isn’t the real threat to the world. Stupid is just as destructive as Evil, maybe more so, and it’s a hell of a lot more common. What we really need is a crusade against Stupid. That might actually make a difference.”

A cool little short story involving Harry and Bob's conversation on Harry's ad in the paper.

The story was only three pages, so it didn’t have much content but I think the author could write the biggest crap, as long as it's about Harry Dresden I'll just like it.
