CROSSING GUARDS

Rate this book
Megan Hayes is a hospice nurse from the tough, blue-collar streets of South Boston. Haunted by the memory of her mother dying in an empty house, Megan vows to never let a patient die alone. But with her Irish temper and bad dating record, Megan fears she may never find love, and will ultimately end up alone herself. Living with her father doesn't help. Jackie Boy Hayes, USMC (Ret.), is a 68 year old, fitness-crazed former US Marine. Check that - no such thing as a former Marine. He IS a Marine! Jackie Boy spends his days seeking new and interesting ways to exercise, and finds an unlikely recruit in a lonesome, overweight teenager. When Megan falls for a patient's son, she will uncover shocking revelations and learn that there is more to life than waiting for it to end.

CROSSING GUARDS is an uplifting story about finding love and friendship in unlikely places, reminding us to keep our hearts open and soldier on.

About the author

Mike Bernard

Mike Bernard is an accomplished screenwriter, playwright, and author. His diverse body of work includes seven novels and a stage musical, recognized internationally through placements in the prestigious competitions Academy Nicholl Fellowship, PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, ScreenCraft, Nantucket Film Festival, and various New York and Los Angeles screenplay competitions.

Mike's ‘midlife crisis’ writing career began when all his children and all his money went off to college - checks made out to Loyola University Maryland (x2) and Assumption College respectively. Mike’s storytelling resonates with the depth of Dennis Lehane, the wit of Nick Hornby, and the heart of Fredrik Backman, and explores compelling characters, family dynamics and humorous, heartwarming storylines.

A graduate of Providence College and Boston College High School, Mike lives on Cape Cod with his wife, Michele, where he spends summers getting schooled in Pickleball (usually by someone way older) and winters aimlessly roaming the aisles of Home Depot.
