Travel the galaxies. Meet new and interesting aliens. Seduce them, then rob them blind.
Not bad work for an earth girl abducted from a sci-fi con and thrown into a life of piracy in the civilized galaxies!
Flynn had it all. A modified freighter to travel the galaxies. A loyal crew who’d die for her, and a plan to rob the most powerful royal family those galaxies have ever known!
The one thing she wasn’t counting on? Falling head over heels for the princess she’s trying to rob!
Seleya had it all. She was the princess heiress. First in line for the Selevas throne. And she hated living life in a gilded cage where she was forever a slave to her mother’s whims.
A one night dalliance with a strange noble from an outlying galaxy seemed like just the thing to infuriate the queen. What she wasn’t counting on was that noble being one of the most notorious pirates in the civilized galaxies on a mission to seduce and steal!
The stuck up princess and the smart-mouthed pirate are about to lead each other on a chase across the stars in the biggest heist the civilized galaxies have ever seen. The only question is whether they’ll kill each other or kiss each other when the dust settles!
Star Pirate is an 85,000 word lesbian science fiction romance that’s a little Han Solo, a little Spaceballs, and a guaranteed geeky good time!
First Lesfic Sci-fi, first Ms. Archer's, my 666th book read. I would like to thank F. for reading+reviewing this book.
A good looking earthling kidnapped from Earth and threw into space, became a pirate and one of her best trait was to charm the panties off any space beings..for her own sake most of the time.
A Crown Princess who was unhappy with her doormat status. She longed for adventure and excitement in her life + had skills and a great mind to match but under a very dominant mother/Queeen she was unable to do much.
Two completely opposite characters met and everything went haywire as they faced danger from each other and almost every single space beings. If weren't for the missing wow factors and the limited time spent between the hs, this book would have been a good read.
It took me a long time to read this. I just couldn’t get into the story or the characters. If you like the early Han Solo and Leia storyline in Star Wars, but would prefer them both to be women, you may well enjoy this. Currently free on kindle unlimited UK.
Flynn is awesome, she's what I expect a pirate Queen to be like. She knows how people work, how to fight, she is cunning and ruthless when it is warranted. Best book since Mia Archer super heroes series.
I don't always give 5-star ratings for all books, mostly for books that make me feel inspired or books that make me cry at the end, even though I'm a heterosexual 20-year-old male. I still like a good lesbian adventure and Sci-Fi book every once in a while. This one by Mia Archer was another perfect 10/10. The characters were great, the main characters romance was at times flirty and at others very toxic, but always entertaining reads. It had just enough intergalactic adventure mixed in with the sizzling romance between the MCs. It is 300 words long, but you can easily get this done in a few short hours, I finished it in under 2 hours.
That was spectacular. So thrilling, so much fun. The two protagonists were vibrant and dashing, the twists and turns of the plot were legitimately unexpected, and the tongue-in-cheek world-building was just delightful. I can't wait for the sequel.
This book was OK. It had some strong points but also had a lot of weak points.
The bad: The two main characters both felt a bit Mary Sue-ish to me. Both of them were super attractive, super skilled in everything, and just felt like neither had any downfalls. One had almost no development throughout the story (she ended as the same character she was in the beginning). A good majority of the dialogue throughout the book was way too quippy, like just a series of one-liners after another. The story started and ended strong but dragged way to much in the center, so badly I considered stopping several times before inevitably pushing through. The romance bloomed too fast, too late in the story to really be believable.
The good: the actual writing itself was pretty good, enough description and exposition to draw you in, but not enough to bore you. Lots of active voice. The author is very good at writing romance scenes and making you feel the tension and heat as characters interacted. She included several concepts that I also found really interesting such as why there is a lone human in this sci-fi world, why most of the world operates for humanoid creatures, and her use of real world knowledge about space seemed very realistic and well researched.
Overall the book wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great either. If you like sci-fi, this is probably worth a read. If you like lesbian romance, you should try it if you have nothing else more pressing to read. If you’re not into either of those things, there’s not much else in this book to hold on to but I still personally found it worth finishing in the end.
This story has so much going for it! It's a solid SF action story with quality world building and good scientific mechanics, with the usual extrapolation to things like fold space fields and jump points for FTL space travel. Add in the humor and fantastic use of geek culture references we've come to expect from most Mia Archer novels and a pair of leading ladies with so much chemistry between them they seem to be flirting even when they're seriously fighting each other, and you have a story that's hard to put down, loads of fun, and leaves you satisfied, yet wanting more at the same time.
The story includes some clear tie ins to the "Night Terror" series, including references to the warlike blue-skinned aliens from Proxima Centauri, but is definitely a standalone story. Whether it's the beginning of a new series of stories is another question altogether! I personally hope it is, since I'd love to read more about the exploits of Captain Flynn and Seleya.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a sapphic twist on a rogue rescuing a princess trope. And the princess herself is not one to be triffled with. The book knows its genre of a bit campy sci fi with plenty of references to other cult classic scifi movies that had me chuckling throughout the book.
Although the world Archer created takes queues from, with great upfront delight, other well known scifi stories, they make it clearly their own. The worlds and intergalactic politics were interesting and well fleshed out. Part of the charm is that the book doesn't take itself too seriously, leaning into and being self aware of some of the tropes and corniness it follows.
I enjoy the dual point of view, but the first person nature of this one sometimes made it a bit tough to follow when jumping between chapters (which are labeled by character) as they switched POV.
As soon as I finished it and saw there was another book in the series, I purchased it. I look forward to reading it and to see how the author has grown after this book.
I liked this better in concept than in execution. I mean, swashbucking, spacefaring lady pirates? Yes, please! And Flynn usurping a role usually filled by a male in most media on similar themes with similar tropes is a breath of fresh air. But there was something lacking in the worldbuilding and the thought put into the scope of it and the execution of galactic politics, and the characters tended towards the shallow side. In terms of the writing, there was a lot of unnecessary repetition and a few typos and mistakes; honestly, a thorough edit could have cleaned those issues and possibly some of the logistics and character ones as well.
I don't find a lot written in this vein of baroque space opera anymore, though, and I do really enjoy it when I find it.
This was a fun universe and a good adventure story but the romance part is sorely lacking. The pirate main character is just not that likeable and it's really hard to see how the princess ends up wanting her at all. (And indeed she repeatedly assures the reader "I shouldn't want her but I do!" as if knowing we're unlikely to believe it otherwise.) It's tough to strike that balance when you want a character to be rakish and daring but still be decent enough that you can believe anyone would like them, and this book really misses that. She just comes across as arrogant and kind of cruel, and doesn't really have any kind of development or learn anything. I finished it but it wasn't satisfying. I would have liked to see the princess come into her own and get revenge!
I’m amazed I managed to get though 85% of this book. I really tried to finish it but I just do not like the way the book is written! I honestly think this book needs editing.
I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book if I understood any of the references. This book was written for a particular audience. Which is good, at least the author knows their audience.
It’s just sucks for me because I really wanted to know what happens between Flynn and Seleya....😕 👍🏿👍🏿 for a good plot, 🤷🏿♀️for excecution.
A good Sci-Fi story and read. This was about a young woman abdicated by aliens who changed her name from Lynn to Captain Flynn and becomes a pirate in the galaxies.Until One day she decided to steal a crown worth millions . Now the fun begins. Mia Archer the author did a wood job writing this book. This .will make you !augh.maybe cringe. love and more. Well worth a read if you like sci-fi.
This very well written scifi story has well developed characters, some you'll love and some you'll loathe. The storyline flows easily from one character to the other, leaving the reader with the full range of their experiences and emotions. This is a must read for any scifi enthusiast.
I love some good lesbian fiction. I rarely find sci-fi lesbian fiction that is interesting but this one was soooooo good. The main character felt like Jack sparrow if he was a sexy female space pirate. Loved it! I hope to read more
Great swashbuckling tale -- and of course the pirate (late of Earth) gets the girl (who happens to have a claim on the galactic throne.) Could be a setup for book two...
I wish there was more of this book. It was a lot of fun to read, the interaction with the mc and her crew is well done and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Pretty much just a simple space opera with a plot that is, "As old as time". Only nuance is the captain is lesbian and so is the princess. No explicit sex scenes.
I gave the book a shot and I honestly loved the main character and her antics, but ultimately the book cemented the fact in how rarely I enjoy first-person stories. Outside of that, the book was hitting every big gay checkmark of mine and if you don't mind first-person and know the things I like, you'll probably love this.
