I was living my dream, rotating in space around Mars on the Mars Hope Skylab. As the first American woman this far into space, I’ve accomplished more in my twenty-eight years of life than most. I enjoy my job, so when things go sideways and aliens board my lab, I try to stay positive and make sure that I just observe and stay alive. But I’m immediately grabbed and taken to their ship. Well I was Wowed at first as the h is an astronaut, a doctor and only 28! But sadly that was the end of anything good her. He's great with alien 'bits' and the best lines. The story might suit teenage readers. I dislike heroines who lose their minds with lust for the heroes. Ugh.

A bit of a let down for me.
Hannah adapts too quickly to her situation and Bren doesn't really tell her anything about mates...or how rare it is. She's left in dark and they just have lots of sex.

Pretty standard alien romance audiobook!

Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Hannah - she grew up in a home where her parents had exacting standards, she was sent to boarding school at a young age and went on to attend Harvard and became a doctor. She followed her father into a career at NASA and became the first person to orbit Mars. She was alone in space when she lost her communication with Earth, then an alien ship connected to hers and a failsafe countdown began to blow up her ship so that the technology didn’t get into the wrong hands, the aliens took her aboard their ship.

The Hero: Bren - he was a captain of a large ship of the Quasar lineage. He had been dreaming of the woman aboard the earthen vessel for nearly a year in his daily meditation. Though he didn’t tell his crew. They thought when they boarded the spacecraft, that it was yet another unmanned vessel headed for Mars. When they boarded, they began to download the data and the language from the ship and found that it was on a countdown to explosion, so they took the female and returned to their ship.

The Story: Bren and his crew were of a race that had long ago lost the ability or desire to procreate through mating. Though he feels differently around Hannah, who he knows is his mate by the tattoos appearing on his skin. He feels desire for her, and it isn’t long before things heat up and become intimate between them. Bren claims Hannah as his but isn’t happy to find out that Hannah still wants to return to Earth.

The story was decent, though pretty standard for alien romance. Nothing I haven’t read before, though I didn’t mind and there was a good storyline about the fact that Bren was promised to a female council member on his planet and the two main characters having to prove they are bonded. There were plenty of steamy scenes and I tend to like a more adventurous story and less smut. The aliens were a bit different, they didn’t have horns but instead had hair that moved and caressed on its own, which was very odd, kind of like the tails of aliens in some romances.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view and narrated in duet narration by Randi Johnson and Kelsey Navarro. Randi Johnson has a nice voice and is good at using different voices for different characters. Kelsey Navarro always does a good job, I like her voice, and she is very expressive. Overall, I enjoyed this narration quite a bit.

I was provided this audiobook as a gift from one of the narrators. In exchange this is a honest review of the book and narration.

I have never read anything by Pearl Tate before and I must say that this first book has me intrigued in this series. Hannah is a scientist on a space lab that is orbiting Mars when the lab is damaged and set to explode. Bren and his force of aliens enter the lab and save Hannah. Bren is part of an alien force that needs external simulation to breed and procreate; however, when Bren meets Hannah something in him changes. Both Hannah and Bren have to deal with some insecurities and I enjoyed their instant connection. So much is setup for the rest of the series and I am excited to learn more.

The narration was pretty good with the exception on the male voice. I enjoyed it because the tone set the voice of the alien race but I could also see people having a problem with it being too gruff. The female narrator was very enjoyable to my ear. I like that the production of the story allowed for both narrators to be in the same scene together and not each narrator attempting to duplicate the other's voice.

This specific video review will be included in the August 2019 wrap-up.

Yay! A good alien-abduction romance! Been a while since I've read one that really satisfied me.

Hannah (h) is an intelligent heroine that actually stays intelligent. No running off doing stupid things, no panicked screaming, etc. And no turning into super hero, prophesied savior or anything like that. She was still just a doctor and researcher, even after their mating.

Bren (H) was also intelligent. Yes, he did succumb to the standard mate-bond lust thing that's so common in these stories, but he wasn't overly alpha and aggressive. Maybe the side effect of the female-dominated society? Either way, it was nice seeing he was legitimately sorry for forgetting to explain things to her (instead of some stories I've read where the alien H doesn't explain things, then never really apologizes for all the stress he caused with his assumptions and actions). Refreshing. Also, hey - virgin H! Not an aggressive, over-dominant man-whore!

The world building is pretty neat. Yes, there are some things about the aliens that are just "oh, like humans, but bigger" but there are some unique physical traits too. I liked the hair, actually. Pushing the "sexy tousled" stereotype into full-on Medusa styling made me giggle. (My own battles with my curly hair made it funny too.) A lot of the world-building things I liked were cultural. The Quasar planet is a female-dominated society, and the author actually brings up all the different questions that this mating will cause - social, religious, economic changes to their society.

Dual 1st person POV. No cheating, though there is some OW drama from H's arranged marriage partner (they are upsetting the order of their civilization, after all). No angst or stupid self-inflicted lack-of-communication problems, though. HEA for the leads, and while not a cliffhanger, there are story threads that set up Mattias's story in book 2, Matthias's Miracle. And yes, I'd be interested in reading more in this series (even Travek's story in a few volumes - would love to see what brings him around to being less of a sleaze!).

It wasn't terrible and it could have been a good read but I didn't like it. The fact that Hannah and Bren get intimate together so early in the book just put me off. Well technically, I don't hate it when sex happens early in the book, but there needs to be chemistry. I didn't feel the chemistry between them at all, it was just confusing how quickly it all happened. The heroine encounters aliens for the first time, confirming that humans are not alone in the universe and what does she do? Panic attack? Can she trust the aliens? Is she scared?
Nah bruh, she f*cks the alien who saved her the first minute they are alone, and the only thing she knows about him is his name.

Yeah, not for me.
I'm out. Sorry.

I've found a new author!! I love it when I find a new author. This definitely won't be my last book by Pearl Tate. I'm totally hooked!

Bren's Blessing is an Erotic Sci-fi Romance novel with a creative plot and great world building. The main characters, Bren and Hannah, were easy to like. The secondary characters were great too. And while the antagonist wasn't exactly a villain it's not difficult for the reader to dislike her.

The first half of the story was a bit slow moving and mostly focused on the MCs sexual relationship. Beware, there is a good amount sex in this book so it might not be for you if you're not into that sort of thing. I didn't find the sex to be super excessive but I appreciated the reasoning behind it on Bren's part as well as Hannah acknowledging it in her internal monologues.

As previously mentioned the author did some wonderful world building in this book. I'm excited to learn more. Not all aspects of it were original but the author put a fresh spin on those parts. I was a bit disappointed in some of Hannah's behavior however. I felt that she should have questioned more and pushed for better communication and answers from Bren. Although this line from Hannah's thoughts addresses the issue well.

"It flits through my head that my alien mate is the captain of this ship. He’s used to only giving out the details that need to be at any given time."

All in all this was a wonderful read in my opinion and I can't wait to start the next book in the series.

About the Narrators:
Randi Johnson and Kelsey Navarro completely blew me away with their narration. I don't believe I've come across them before but I love them. They both had fantastic pacing and brought the story to life. Their performances were truly excellent. Johnson carried more than half of the story's delivery because basically every character in the book was male. This book was the first duet narration that I've listened to and I love how he did the all of the males' speaking parts even if the chapter was being told from Hannah's POV.

The beginning of this book is a little confusing. Unlike other stories where they explain why it’s weird to feel this way or why sex is so uncommon you you learn as you go. However, it makes the story kid of hard to follow. Especially, with all the sex that is going and the plot comes second to that. I mean overall it’s a pretty good book but I’m hoping the next book has more plot and a little less sex.
Also, the narration was good she did a great job. The male voice took a little to get use to but nothing that would make you not want to listen.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook to review, this was at my request. Moreover, this plays no part in how I feel about this book or how I rated it.

I don’t know what is going on with goodreads right now, but it just erased my review twice now. My first one took me almost an hour to write and my second I don’t know what happened. I don’t how much I can remember, but I’m not happy right now.

This was my first book that I have ever read that was an adult romance set in space aka as an alien romance, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. This book has opened up my mind to all sorts of possibilities to this alien romance genre. I’ m not sure if these sci-fi romances are considered a sub genre of the paranormal romance, or if is considered it’s own category, but this very much reminded me of a paranormal romance and why I enjoy them so much with the world building, species building, and just all kinds of new rules and traditions that follow these new worlds. It just took me away into this other world and immersed me into it.

I think what intrigued me the most was about this Quasar alien society, and its rules. Like the fact that the ruling body of this alien race was woman. They were considered more powerful than the men where due to the fact that there were less women than men, which was a huge deal a 1,000 years ago since their population was dying out after the mating bond was slowly disappearing, meaning there was not a lot of procreating going on. So, they set this family structure in place where the woman would have multiple husbands in order to ensure population growth among their people. So they set their society up on Quasar as such without really questioning why the mating bond for them had disappeared all those years ago.

Another thing that was really interesting about this world was the fact that men couldn’t perform in the bedroom unless they took this special drug to cause them to be physically capable of sexy times. They think the reason this happened was because of the advanced technology that they used like nanos messed with their chemistry or something. This drug to enable to engage in sexual acts was supposed to be very illegal and frowned on in society. Of coarse that didn’t mean the men didn’t engage or take this drug, they did, yet it was implied they found it very unsatisfactory act unlike they would if they were with a mate. In Bren’s case he never took this drug so therefore he never engaged in those sexual activities and did’t have the urge until he finally felt the pull of his mate Hannah as she left Earth.

Once Hannah was saved by Bren, everything changed. The mating bond came back in full force with Bren immediately forming a mating bond with her. He felt this great desire for her that he could barely contain. He was marked that he was mated to her on his skin as was Hannah. It was very clear that this mating has come back in full force and on full display. It added a very complicated piece to their society.

As for the romance, I wish there was a little bit more because Bren and Hannah’s relationship tended to be confined to the bedroom and nothing more. Don’t get me wrong they had some sexy times going on that I very much enjoyed reading about, but I would have liked to have seen more scenes outside of the bedroom like some emotional bonding moments to show the deepening of their relationship. I wanted meaningful conversations or just have them spend time together where they weren’t naked. Anything aside from them jumping each other’s bones every two seconds because that’s all they did for a majority of the book. In fact she was naked for a good portion of the book after he saved her. It was a lot , though very sexy, after awhile.

The only reason that I could forgive the lack of romance in this one was the fated mate situation that was going on. With this fated mate plot line, it was very much implied that there was building love and deepening emotions between the two of them via their bond. They could feel each other’s emotions. They could see what was inside the other’s heart. They could understand each other through the bond. They could literally see through each other soul because of that bond with words not being needed because they felt it deep within their heart. So, it was there, but just not as explicit as I would have liked. I just wanted more romance and relationship development between the two of them.

Even though I did like the length of the story, I could have seen this being a longer story and would have welcomed it. I thought this story was going to be very different from what it was from the back blurb, which very much attracted to the story in the first place. I thought there was going to be more of struggle between Bren and Hannah with their communication and understanding one another since they spoke different languages. I thought that was where the development was going to come in, and how they got to know each other as they navigated around each other. I thought they would possible develop their own language and communication with one as they fell deeper and deeper in love with each other. I just thought that was going to be a bigger obstacle than it actually was. I was kind of looking forward to that and all that built up surrounding that.

I also thought there was a missed opportunity with the two week span of Hannah coming to learn all about Quasar and it’s customs as they set out to prove that the mating bond was real and true. I thought that could have had some great relationship building moments between them. I also wanted to see Hannah learn all about more of the society too, and I wanted to learn more about it myself, and was looking forward to it. But the story kind of raced forward, and they were on Quasar after those two weeks.

It was very interesting to see a brief taste of Quasar society. I personally would have liked to see more, therefore just upping the danger for Bren and Hannah a little bit more, though there was plenty danger even in a short amount of time. I would have liked to seen more of the planet. I would have liked to see more of the politics. I was curious about this alien society more than I was for the romance. I just found it very intriguing, and I wanted more, but the taste I got was enough to show me that this society wasn’t all on the up and up with bits of corruption possibly thrown in there especially when they learned that this mating bond was back in full force. It just made for an interesting storyline.

I do have to say that there were times that I didn’t care for Hannah. I just thought she was little too gruff especially in some of her language. I don’t know why but every time she cursed it just made me cringe because I just feel like that matched with her character at times. It just really put me off of her. And just sometimes I just didn’t like her because of how she came off, but then other times I did like her fine, and mostly that was when she wasn’t cursing. I like her the most when she showed her full emotions on display and actually be vulnerable with Bren. I didn’t hate her, but I didn’t love her. Let’s put it this way she wasn’t my favorite heroine of all time.

Overall I really did enjoy this story. It was a nice introduction to the world of alien romance, which I was a little bit unsure about at first and have tended to avoid until now. It just opened my mind to so many possibilities of sci-fi/ alien romance, which made me very grateful for this reading experience that I had with this story. I think the big thing that drew me to this story was surprisingly not the romance, but Quasar world itself. I loved learning about the alien society and its members like Bren and how his kind differed from humans. I loved all the world building going on. I loved learning about the society and the whole mating bond thing that disappeared all those years ago, which made me even more curious especially when Hannah mated with Bren. Just so much of the storyline I really enjoyed along with the hot sexy times going on between newly mated Hannah and Bren. With this whole new mating bond now coming to fruition for the Quasar men, who seem somewhat suppressed by the high ranking woman, the possibilities are just endless for them with so much more left to explore.

That was the only bad thing about this, it made want to read the rest of the books in the series especially with the tease at the end with Matthias and his mate in this one. I really want to see what happens next in this series and these mate bonds, but sadly I won’t be able to due to platform. But I was happy to read this one and get me more into this sub genre in romance in the future.

The story wasn't convincing. Basically, this was exactly what you'd expect from the description, but it still would have required a little more building up for tension and the plot. I also think there had silly ideas, like aliens are way too similar to humans and it was explained to be "logical" (yeah, right). FMC is acting like any damsel without spice attitude even thought she supposed to be such a genious surviver. There was also unlogic behaviour for alien males if you think how their culture is later explained. Should I recommend this? Well, if you want to read very basic alien abduction story with several sex scenes, why not. But don't expect much for the plot.

I got this for free but my opinion is genuine.

I particularly liked the ways in which the aliens were different--non-human--and Bren's complete, emotional vulnerability (which made him feel even more alien than his physical differences!) As you keep going, more and more of the interesting world his people inhabit starts to be revealed, which I found fascinating.

Hot and Perfectly Done

I really enjoyed the love story between Bren and Hannah. I could feel Bren's emotions very well, and Hannah came across as a person who tried to think things through. I also liked the partial insight into how the planet is ruled. Its not the men bit the women who rule and some of them are not nice. They rule through threats and punishments.

Too fast

I didn't finish this story. The main character is kidnapped by aliens and immediately has sex with him. I don't care off its a "mate" thing or a"i want to survive" thing, she should have taken a little longer before she jumped into bed with him. And that takes you to 40% if the book.

Lost interest around 73% after skimming a lot of it. I wouldn’t call this ‘romance’ but more ‘erotica’. The story beyond that gets lost. I will try another in the series.

I received this book at my request in exchange for an honest review.

Pearl Tate is someone that I have heard of but not read yet. I know that she writes a lot of scifi stories and scifi is something that I enjoy tremendously. To be fair, scifi is one of my favorite genres so anything that is sci-fi, paranormal, or fantasy related automatically gets me interested.

This story I was pleasantly surprised with. Yes, there is a lot of adult time within the story and we really didn't get a plot until halfway through but that's fine with me. There are times where the first book in a series is not of the best. The second book is how you determine if the series is good or not. There has been plenty of first books in a series that have been wonderful and then when the second comes it all falls apart. I am really intrested to see how the second book goes because this book was OK.

The concept itself was interesting however I have read plenty of books that had the same sort of concept. This author however did a bit of a spin on it and I am intrested in seeing how it all tends to play out.

I have listened to Randi Johnson narrate before and the more books that I listen from him the more and more I am starting to like the different characters that he brings to light. One of the first books that I've listened to him everybody sound yhe same to me but now everybody seems to have distinctive voices and I am all in. Kelsey Navarro is new to me but I have to say that I enjoyed her in this story.

Erotic Sci-Fi Novella
Hannah is a high-ranking scientist on a solitary mission to Mars. Bren is a commander of one of many spaceships that circle the universe. Bren’s world is stagnating, due to infertility. This is a female-led world where the males must share married life with several other males. Procreation can only be achieved by insemination. These are the premises for an outer space romp that involves numerous erotic scenes and an exploding spaceship, Hannah’s.
Conquered by the aliens and taken aboard their ship, she realizes that she has become a slave. At the same time, she feels exceedingly attracted to the seven feet tall Bren, who claims ownership over her. In a mindbogglingly fast courtship, the two come together – and it becomes clear that Bren has dreamed of his human mistress for a long time. Their bonding is instant – and politically incorrect.
Pearl Tate pulls all erotic stops.

"The onboard computers have detected a breach somewhere, whether structural or perhaps a security measure. The fact is that the self-destruct has been activated and in ten minutes, the Skylab will explode and I'll be dead."

I've been a Twitter follower of Pearl Tate for a long while now and I've wanted to read any of her books.

I got the chance and started with book 1 in her Quasar Lineage series Bren's Blessing, a sci-fi alien romance.

I've never read alien romance before, so that was an interesting first for me.

Bren's Blessing is narrated from two first person perspectives: Hannah, an American astronaut and Bren, the alien.

The book opens with Hannah telling the reader how she ended up going to space despite being "a doctor not an engineer." She also narrates incidents of her childhood that made her the supposedly strong woman she is today.

As Hannah recounts and remembers this, the space shuttle she is in suffers a breach and automatically goes into self-destruct. Luckily, an alien ship approaches and an alien grabs her to safety in the last minute.

"His mouth curls into a grin that could almost be panty-dropping if he were human."

There is an interesting and strange shift when Hannah and Bren begin to interact. The once-strong Hannah is turned into a kind of pet, a sex-pet, for Bren, who views himself as a higher being. It takes a while for Hannah to make him understand that he can't boss her around, although she relents to the sex easily.

At some point, Hannah points out that she is willing to have sex with Bren if it will keep her alive.
In a way, both main characters are selfish in a way.

There were many obvious parts in Bren's Blessing that I felt resulted in redundant repetition, like describing Bren as "humanoid" then going on to say that he "has two arms and two legs." No kidding!

Also the flow in some of the ideas stood out to me. When Hannah is captured from the self-destructing Skylab and taken to the alien ship, she is first turned on by the alien then she faints when she realizes she's been saved-and-abducted by an alien.

In terms of imagery, there wasn't a lot of it in Bren's Blessing. Plus there was a lot of telling.

"I need and want you all the time. You are mine and I will always be yours. Never doubt this. Instead of thinking about the past or the future, think about what we have together. You don't have to worry with useless fears. It's done, and it will work out."

In terms of characterization, I struggled a bit with Hannah. I wasn't sure if she was a strong character or pretending to be. I mean, she was a woman alone in a space shuttle but at the same time.

I struggled to like Hannah though and that dampened my enjoyment of the book.

One of the interesting things about Bren's Blessing is how Bren's body reacts to Hannah and shows him that she's the mate compatible for him – tons of sex aside.

In terms of erotica, the scenes were vivid and well-written.

"I can't speak as a symphony of sensations crash into me on all sides." – Bren

Things get heated towards the final third of the book when Bren is summoned to return to his world to be married. Together, Bren, Hannah, and two of Bren's friends draw up a plan to overrule Bren's fate and make Hannah a citizen of the alien realm.

Overall, I found Bren's Blessing to be an ok alien-romance read. It was a new experience for me.
While I didn't like the main characters much, I enjoyed the premise and the idea behind the book.

For 18 plus ages only

This is a scifi book about two persons, one from Earth and one from Quasar. They mate and this book is an erotic scifi. Not my usual read. I've had a hard time on deciding the star rating I would give as I read along. Every page has an error of some sort, be it spelling, tense issues, or punctuation. Too numerous to mention plus the book isn't formatted correctly. When I read at the end of the book, that the author wants errors noted and sent to her via an error email address, that did it for me. What was going to be 3 stars but ended up 2 stars. This book was hard to read due to literary issues and I'm an editor as well as a reader. I give two stars for the uniqueness of the alien race. I suggest the author hire a good editor for this book and to not write more books until she has learned what areas she is weak in, writing wise.

Interesting story but I felt everything happened too quickly...from the time Hannah met her alien beau, there was no wasted time in them getting to know each other. The sex was excessive and took the focus away from learning enough about the aliens, their technology and in-depth history. Furthermore, it seemed so unrealistic that Hannah who was a brilliant doctor would just go with the flow and not insist on finding a way back to earth. It could have been so much more interesting if there was a bit of resistance on her part.

All in all, maybe the novel needed to be a little longer but a good story.

I'd really give this 3.5 stars but rounding up is better than rounding down!

I liked the premise of the book but I felt that parts were too rushed (her reaction to her own reaction to Bren, for example). I would have liked to see a little more relationship development. I also would have liked to have seen more of Hannah's learning about her new society.

However, I did enjoy the book and will read the next one.

Enjoyed a New to me Author

So I recently got KU and decided to try this Author out. I was pleasantly surprised.

Hannah is on a ship around Mars when Been and his men come and take her.

To me it really wasn't much of a kidnapping as it was a save her life thing.

Hannah and Bren Mate and their bonding marks show up. Well this is a shock that there's actually dated mates out there after thousands of years.

DNF at 20 percent, wasn’t horrible just really lot interest since the character get together physically by chapter 6... just need more than insta love in my reading selection. I feel like it had potential to be great but the heroine kind of just lost her marbles because the hero was so hot (eye roll), I just wanted a bit more build up before the characters jumped into bed with each other I just wanted to see them fall in love rather then fall into lust.

One group recommended this book and I was intrigued by the description, I really liked it!! Normally fated mates are too cheesy for me but the magic hair caught my attention LOL. It is insta love but I liked the characters interactions and the other guys that were introduced, I was eager to learned more about their society and now I am jumping right into book 2. 5 I want that hair stars!

As alien abduction stories go this was the same old same old with lots of gratuitous sex thrown in. If the author had spent just a little more time in world building and fleshing out the alien society and how a world ruled by women could be then this would have been a serious contender. But as it is, good story bones but basically bad soft porn.

This book was all about the sex (explicit) with very little world building. Written in alternating first person which added to the problem as both main characters had no idea what was going on necessitating info dumps throughout the book. The main scene with the heroine in danger and the hero having to rescue her was especially clumsy because of their lack of information.

No,no,no

Grammatically starting a sentence with And...uggh. Describing someone's smile/teeth as big and white!!! And she's a doctor!! Nope, I couldn't get past page 50. The story was not well thought out and honestly writing about the space program and Wow
Not Oh No!! someone's opening the door so the skylab's going to blow up, Duh, what? I really do not like Stupid.
