Marked by the Moon #1

Her Brave Wolf

Rate this book
She’s smitten by a wolf.

Gwendolyn Laney was just an ordinary park ranger until the day she was bitten by a wolf, a wolf that can turn into a hot as sin man.

There’s some kind of magic drawing her to him. Maybe someone more sensible would be worried, but not Gwen.

She knows she belongs with him.

He can’t have a human.

Nickolas Sipe is the Alpha of Blue Pack. He has a duty to all of his wolves, and that duty means keeping humans away.

Humans have no place in the pack. They’re the ones to blame for wolf shifter misfortunes.

It doesn’t matter that she gets him wild with a simple look. This human can’t be the one for him.

Fated Mates. Forever Love.

This is the starter book for this series. The shifter community has totally separated itself from the human community and blame the humans for the end of the wolf. The alpha is saved by a park ranger and bites her in his wolf form. This begins a deep connection that neither understands. The interaction between these two is deep and sensual. Unfortuantely, the story takes a weird turn in a Beta trying to take over the pack, and left me a little cold. I think Nikolas is a stupid alpha, because he can't see the forest for the trees. I saw the betrayal of the beta from the alpha fight earlier in the book. Hopefully Gwendolyn is a lot smarter, because this pack is not going to survive with Nikolas in charge.

I loved this book. It covers loss, betrayal (no cheating), prejudice, acceptance, compassion and love. Gwen was awesome. She is a strong, smart, fearless, compassionate, park ranger. She hears poachers and finds a wolf, half dead from a shot to his stomach. She tries to save him and that's when the magic begins. Nick is the Alpha of the Blue Pack and he was the dying wolf. Something magical happened to both Gwen and Nick that night and they are having a hard time denying it. He was a bit of a jerk in the beginning, but he's only been Alpha for a short time and to worried about outdated rules. Most of the pack are older and kinda set in their ways, so he's still adjusting. Nick's little sister, Willow, is excited about Gwen and the possibility of change. This book is a wonderful read for all shifter lovers.

I loved this book. We have a male alpha who hasn’t been intimate with anyone yet even though he didn’t believe he’d find a fated mate. He thought it was a myth. The FMC was a strong personality and she didn’t let herself be a victim, even with her heart hurting.

I thought it was the perfect amount of angst.

Not the greatest werewolf book i have read but it did have some good moments. I liked the mystery of the moon mark and how it was explained why Gwen felt an affinity to the wolves, though being a little shortly described.

I didn't like the instalove connection though and also some of the rash decisions Gwen and Nick make on the build up to conclusion. Gwen didn't seem fazed at all by Nick being a shifter and i think the other wolves accepted her far too easily when they announced their intentions.

Decent read for a short book not sure if i will carry on with the rest in the series though.

as much as I love wolf shifter stories I was left feeling rather underwhelmed by this book. When we think of shifters, we associate them with strong, protective alphas. Well, the 'hero' was anything but with his extreme anti human policies (hello, you are part human idiot) his can't be bothered attitude and his blatant disregard for anyone other than himself and his beloved sister. it did get better towards the end with a nice twist but his superior attitude for the first 49% had already coloured my views

An over use of words.

This book was ok but I did not feel a connection to the main characters. I also didn’t care that I knew who one of the bad guys were right in the beginning of the book. It said something like Nick could smell a lie but I feel it’s not so true, otherwise, he wouldn’t have killed Ivan. And lastly, the word repetition was too much for me.

DNF the book in the middle of chapter two. There is way too much repeating. Example: "The moons blessing is fading" then three sentences down "the moons magic is disappearing" and just to let you know in case it's not expressed enough in chapter one, the FMC is a park ranger that lives in a cabin that enjoys nature and has a soft spot for wolves

Good start to a new series! Interesting twist on a shifter story.

Nickolas Sipe is the Alpha of Blue Pack. He has a duty to all of his wolves, and that duty, he believes, means keeping humans away. Nick sees his life as black and white...his ideas are firmly engrained. In his mind, humans are the root of many problems and should not be accepted into his community of wolves.

Gwen Laney is a park ranger, a very open-minded, strong, kind and caring person. Caring for all beings in her park is important to her. When she is bitten by a wolf she is trying to save after being severely injured, her world is changed. She accepts that something has changed - she is open-minded. And human.

How interesting that it is the human that is open-minded, not the shifter.

But Gwen is a special person...

I enjoyed this story for the most part. I found events in the Epilogue just a little bit too fanciful...and there were some other parts that did not seem to flow quite as well, logically. I’m being vague to avoid spoilers.

I especially enjoyed Nick’s sister, Willow, and look forward to her story.

A good start to an intriguing series!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.

Okay, thoughts on this book. I think the overall book was just okay. Nick's issues with the other pack at the start seemed more like a random side quest than a key part of the story. I believe it was included to set up the second book that covers Willow's story. However, the severity Nick projected made it seem like it was going to be a large plot point. So to realize it meant nothing had me scratching my head. The insta-love between Nick and Gwen was not for me due to her being human. He treated her terribly and she didn’t bat an eye because he was a wolf. I also think the ending made their fight for love seem like it was for nothing. The book largely focused on how a wolf loving a human is a big no. Then when he finally agrees to go against the pack and declare his love the finale chapter happens and switches their relationship dynamic. Overall I give this book a 3. I enjoyed the fated mates aspect and the love Nick has for his pack. I also liked the unique twist of the wolves having fallen so far from the moon that they don’t know their own history.

Some of the sentences could have been worded a little better, there was a lot of unnecessary repetition, and there could have been a bit more creativity but otherwise I liked the writing style. Everything was really rushed. In less than 24 hours there were poachers, someone got shot, the 2 main characters met, ran away from each other, healed, recognized their moon marks, went to the city, challenged the alpha and won and took over the pack. That's a lot and we haven't even mentioned the kidnapped sister. Despite the rushed storyline, I do like the general plot and I love that she's a ranger. What better way to accidentally run into a werewolf than in the woods while on the job protecting the forest? I also love the concept of mate marks fading if matches don't turn out and the awakened wolves. It's all very neat stuff

What a wonderful story of Fated Mates, dormant wolf shifters. Nick was in wolf form when he was attacked and was found by Gwen who is a forest ranger. The empathy that flowed from Gwen caused "Moon Magic" to occur. I absolutely loved this book. It covers the up and down and back and forth of Nick and Gwen's fated relationship. The characters are well developed and emotional. This story is well written and the plot and subplots are excellent. I was so surprised at the ending. I could not have imagined a better ending. I hope there is a book about Nick's sister Willow hunt for her fated mate and about Julie and Howard's hunt for their son Chase. Also it would be nice to read more about this celestial event of the awakening of the dormant shifters. I highly recommend this book.

Gwendolyn is a park ranger and Nickolas is the alpha of the Blue Wolf Pack, he has a duty to his pack and that means keeping humans away. Gwendolyn finds an injured wolf and while she tries to help this wolf it bites her. Gwen starts feeling changes within herself and she knew that there was something different about that wolf. Nickolas is trying to stick with the no humans policy but he can’t help being attracted to Gwen. I love the chemistry between the characters it was a well written story with plenty of twists and turns and lots of steamy action. It’s a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Gwen the “human” park ranger & Nick the alpha shifter ( in his wolf form )cross paths and there is instant pull between them. Without spoiling this story, it is an enjoyable afternoon wolf shifter read, there are some twists & turns, and it’s not as in depth as some other books I’ve read, there is no pack mind-linking, and Nicks moonlight pack isn’t your pack house style. There is a slight HEA as this is a first book in a series, with a slight cliff hanger, but it was just lacking a little substance for me. Hence the rating. Not sure my connection to characters is enough to continue the series.

Very entertaining read !!!

Gwen and Nick's story was fascinating, and I enjoyed it.
Gwen is a park ranger, and she comes across some poachers who have hurt a wolf in HER forest !!!
Ummm, No !!
So Gwen chases them down, and then doubles back to help the wolf.
Well, the wolf is hurt pretty badly, and , out of some instinct , bites her.
When Gwen wakes up, she is pretty sure that her life will never be the same !!!
This was a great story with lots of what I can see as long story arch' s, and great characters, it was an entertaining read . Would enjoy the next story !!

I’m sorry, but this just wasn’t any good. It read like a 15-year-old wrote it. I’ve read better fanfictions on AO3. The writing style was clumsy, with chopped-up sentences and weird repetitions. The plot was going way too fast and really didn’t make any sense. The dialogue was very unrealistic and the way the male lead and his sister spoke to each other makes me think the author might be an only child. In short, don’t understand how this got past an editor. It did slightly improve towards the end, hence the 2 stars instead of one.

When the sentence
'She was ready to go in a flash like the serious ranger she was'
is written on the first page and its not unironic, sarcastic or cynical in any way, I know what kind of book to prepare for...

Two thirds of the book in, yes I'm persevering, I come across the sentence
'She pressed her tongue to his teeth, asking him to let her explore'
Excuse me??? This is just startling

After actually finishing the book, i feel kinda 'meh' about it. Its not great but it got a bit better as time went on.

When Alpha wolf shifter Nick is ambushed and wounded he is saved by Forest Ranger Gwen and a connection is established. Though Nick is torn between his need for Gwen and his old beliefs about staying away from humans he soon sees she is just what he needs. This book starts off in a way that catches your attention and keeps it thought the book and though it is a standalone the story connects with other books in the series. I read and reviewed this book as a voluntary ARC.

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.
Her Brave Wolf is an exceptionally well-written story about shifters by an author that is truly gifted. Her characters are strong and, even though this is a paranormal fantasy, the story feels believable. The H and h meet in an unlikely manner and the story takes off. This book is a romance with plenty of drama thrown in. Kamryn Hart makes me want to find the shifter in me!

Gwen, a park ranger, comes across Nick, a shifter in wolf form and alpha of the closest pack, after he is injured by rival wolves and some poachers. As the story progresses things get riskier for the wolves and Gwen, heavier emotionally and more dangerous for everyone. With great dialogue and characters I recommend this book for shifter lovers who don't mind somewhat dense males and strong but quirky females.

An enjoyable shifter romance read

This is a well written novel and is a fantastic first for this new series. I will definitely be reading the next in the series. Nice to see dominant females in a shifter novel, Gwen and Willow are not afraid to challenge Nick as he struggles to come to terms with the death of his parents, leading the pack as a new alpha and working through his feelings for Gwen. Throw in a kidnapping and some poachers and you won't want to put this book down.

Her Brave Wolf (Marked by the Moon)

Gwen was a Park Ranger who loved her job, and the she met a wolf, one who needed her help, that was her job, or course. In order to help him, she prayed for help and her prayers were answered, but not quite in the way she expected. She never expected to meet the one person who could
who would turn her would completely upside down. ENJOY this read.

Great wolf shifter PNR

This was a terrific story with strongly written characters. I especially liked the intricate werewolf details that were part of the story! There was some very graphic steam that was part of the mating also. The story itself was seamless, well-written, & imaginative. I really enjoyed the pack relationships and the thoughtful leadership insights that the MMC struggled with.

Exceptional story

I adore this story. It is well paced and well written. There is one minor word issue, and in chapter 9 the mark on his hand changes from his left to his right. Otherwise it would be a perfect 5 stars. I appreciate that the steamy scenes were there to support the story, and not overtake the story as is so popular now. Glad to have found this author because she gets it all just right!

Sloooow burn

This story was slow to build up to the romance part of the story. Very character driven, a plus.
Nick, was the alpha of his own pack now, but he was new to this role. He wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps, but that sit right with him. His parents died in a car accident recently.
Gwen was a forest ranger. She loved the solitude of the forest. She found a connection being there. These two were not to meet, but fate chose otherwise.

Strong Confident Characters with a Surprise Twist

Really enjoyed this shifter romance with a surprise plot twist. Both main characters having strong confident personalities and feel passionate about their respective missions. Add lots of steamy attraction to the mix and you just can’t go wrong with this one.

I enjoyed it

If you are looking for a fairly quick not too dark paranormal book this is a good one. Take a park ranger human who has always longed to be a wolf and add in an injured wolf shifter and you have an intriguing story. This book includes several twists and turns that are both fun and set the series up for more brave wolves and their mates to meet and talk in love.

Good quick read

Great story -- it was interesting from the start; it had suspense in the first few chapters that hooks you in and has you turning the page. There was some reservation on our hero's side about having feelings for a human that made me sad but I am happy I pushed through. Gwen was very likable and I love her confidence and strength she shows through the whole book.

Werewolf coming of age tale

There are as many takes on the wolf shifter mythos as there are writers. What do you do when thrust into a position of responsibility unprepared? How do you cope when myth becomes reality? Our main characters must rise to the challenge of sudden life upheaval while under the sway of magic. Let the moon magic begin.

Worth finishing

I liked the story because, while it's fated mates, it wasn't insta-love so the characters were well developed. I did find myself skipping whole paragraphs where the characters were introspective because it was long-winded and cut the scenes. Still, it was worth finishing up.
