They’re watching you. They see the way you clutch your blanket. They smell the sweat trickling down your back. They hear the fear pulsing through your veins…and they love it.
This is a collection of stories about what really hides beneath your bed, watching, waiting, listening to every breath you take. It’s about the creatures that come out to play on the full moon, and the things that wake at the devil’s hour.
Are you ready to find out what really goes bump in the night? The true reason behind your midnight tremors?
USA Today Bestselling Author. I love reading and writing, especially YA/NA fiction. I have self-published and also used a traditional publisher. Each experience has brought new knowledge and new friendships.
When I'm not chasing after my kids or writing, I enjoy painting, drawing, listening to music, and watching horror movies. I am also a rare disease advocate, a gardener, and a believer in true love.
This third entry in Limitless Publishing's wonderful "13" Anthology series is every bit as delightful and engrossing as the first two entries. You want page-turning thrills? You got it here, you truly do. Horror, dark, grief, spooky, shocking, your choice. The added benefit is that this is a multi-author anthology. Got a favorite author or two? Go for it. A weekend free for reading? Sit down and read straight through. Not enough time? Sample a story; the rest will be there when you are ready. Or follow a returning author from one entry to the next. You can't go wrong. But you can take some truly scary pathways.
Another great anthology. It’s filled with a bunch of horror and suspense. The writers are first class people, like Samie Sands, D.A. Roach, Joshua McMillan, to name a few.
And the stories are just adorable. Each one is easily a five star beauty. Just the thing for those of you who love to read short horror stories.
Like I said, a great collection. Give it a try. You’ll be happy. You’ll see why.
I was given a early copy of this anthology basically because I begged for it. I mean I seriously begged and prayed and begged a little more. With some of my charm and wit, I was able to secure a copy and here is my review.
Alvah Manor by Nykki Mills This was a way to start a horror anthology. I made the mistake of reading this story after getting off of work at 2 a.m.. I will recommend not doing that if you plan on sleeping or not having awful dreams. It was creepy and twisted and had a element of a demented family. I must say that I highly enjoyed this story.
Demented by Taylor Henderson Now this story was eerie. It gave me the chills. It was a psychology mind bender that kept me guessing and I didn't anticipate where it was going to go. The story was clear and flowed naturally. It is something that I could easily see to be a movie someday.
Into Mama's Lair by Elizabeth Roderick This story took me on an adventure. It was tense and it was an creepy and interesting story. I wish there was a little more to it. I want to know more of the past of the main character Tara. There is much more to this story and I hope to one day get her background.
Mama's Closet by Erin Lee Now this story was my oh my. It actually left me with my mouth wide open. I don't know why this story touched me in such a way that I was bawling while reading it. It hit me on such a major emotional level that I was scared I wouldn't recover. It was well written and definitely one of my favorites during the anthology.
Mommy Hold Me by Kristin Jacques This story will take you on a rollercoaster ride. It had me depressed, scared, perplexed and a unusual hint of joy. The beginning of the story was heart breaking but then it takes you on some eerie twists and turns that I didn't see coming. It was mind blowing.
Room 158 by Thomas S Flowers First I must say that I love how when each 13 anthology Mr Flowers adds on a creepy and intriguing story based out of the same hotel. It gives it a sense of familiarity even though each story is completing different. It is soooooo goooooood. It all weaves expertly together and adds a sense of suspense and horror. I love all of the stories so far and feel that it could easily be made in to a tv show.
The Best of Intentions by Joshua Macmillian In the beginning of the anthology there are several stories that contained "mommy issues". They were all different and all good but Mr Macmillian gives us our first example of "daddy issues". His story was well written that it was easy to put yourself in Corey's point of view and understand him. I think that is what made this story so horrifying to me because I could understand why. Now if that isn't a mind bender than I don't know what is.
The Body Farm by Marissa Farrar Now this is a classic story about what if's. I hate giving away spoilers and I'm going to try not to. I like the twist that happened on why things happen. I would also love if this story got brought into a full novel. There is enough meat there to do it. See what I did there meat.
The Day That... by Samie Sands Now this was interesting. I quickly became immersed in this story. I liked that the point of view was in a essay form by a girl named Gaby. It was not so much horrifying but more of a jaw dropper. I mean the things that happens is overwhelming but really well done. I enjoyed this story very much.
The House of Tabott Hill by D.A. Roach This was my favorite story. I'm a little obsessed with this author because I just fell in love with her writing style awhile ago. I'm sure you are wondering with so many great involved how did I choose this as my favorite. I will tell you it was because it gave me an element of a classic horror movie vibe with a modern twists. It touches that part of soul that still looks under your bed and checks the back seat of your car at night. The main character was awesome and I loved how she was able to keep a relatively clear head despite of the horrifying events that are happening. It was very entertaining.
The Slit-Mouthed Woman by Jackie Sonnenberg This story has some Japanese folklore in it. It twists and bends the folklore until you are absolutely mortified and you can't believe what you are reading. I made the mistake of reading this before I went to bed last night. I was going to keep reading to try and finish the anthology but I got so many chills that I had to turn on the light and go bed. My heart couldn't take much more.
The Sounds of Deep Waters by Jennifer Loving I started reading this story and kept thinking what is wrong with the main character Lisa. I keep thinking there was no way a mother could act that way towards a six year old. As the story progresses I now know why. It takes some unusual twists that kept me guessing. I enjoyed it.
Unlocked by Sara Scheon Awwwwww how creepy was this story. I mean seriously the last paragraph. How could you do that me? It was well written and it flowed naturally and more importantly it scared the bejesus out of me.
Overall, I highly enjoyed this anthology even though I've been having nightmares for weeks. I will be recommending this anthology to all of my horror loving friends. Thank you for falling for my charm and begging. I really appreciate it.

13 Night Terrors: An Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction

A great collection of dark and horror short stories. If you're looking for that short twisted read before bed like I was, this anthology is perfect, you can pick and choose a short story each night! So far I have only read 3 books from this great anthology, I will edit my review as I read more.
Alvah Manor by Nykki Mills A great little read, even though this is short it still completely captivated me. Twisted, dark and a little bit chilling, I really really enjoyed this and really wanted that little bit more !
Demented by Taylor Henderson I liked the suspense with this little story, I connected quickly with the characters and loved the unknown. I didn't find this one that dark or spine chilling - but I still really enjoyed this read.
The House of Tabott Hill by D.A. Roach I really loved this story, I'd have loved this to be longer I wanted much more from those boys - at points I thought we might get some NA scenes! ...it wasn't really needed though. I love this authors style of writing, she never fails to capture my imagination and transport me fully into the world of the characters she creates.
13 Night Terrors: An Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction is the best so far of these anthologies. I'm reviewing this book as a whole as each story was just as twisted, creepy and terrifyingly good as the next. Having read the first two i knew i was in for a great read but i wasn't expecting this captivating mind twisting read of Mommy Issues!!
We got to catch up with some of our Favourite authors of this collection and were introduced to knew ones. Each story i read pulled me in deeper and deeper into this dark and wonderful world of mind fucks. Oh how i would love to spend a day in these authors minds.
Highly recommend if your looking for a creepy dark twisted read. I'm more than excited for the next Anthology!!
Wow, this is such a shocking, disturbing, jaw dropping...I could go on and on read. There were some new to me authors and also some I've read before like Marissa Farrar. I loved all of these authors. Samie Sands paints such a chilling picture of what could happen during a zombie apocalypse. I found myself holding my breath because the character in the book was stuck and couldn't escape. I have her AM 13 Outbreak series and can't wait to read it. As a lab tech, a virus of any kind always peaks my interest and I can't stop thinking about what I would do if I was stuck at work at the hospital if something like this happened. Now instead of being afraid to go to sleep, I'm afraid to go to work. Thanks Samie! Lol
Unless you're wandering into this anthology following a specific author, you're going to have to power through a few stories to find the gems hidden within. I was tempted a few times to put the book down and not bother finishing it. I felt the theme... lacked. "Night Terrors" paint specific imagery in my mind, and perhaps what I imagine is different from other readers; it is clearly different from many of these authors. Many of the stories didn't bother tying into the theme at all, which was slightly confusing, but not completely off-putting. What I felt was off-putting was the number of "cheap thrills" used in a number of stories, shocking with descriptive gore, foul language, and imaginative violence. I prefer my horrors to be of a more supernatural nature. Psychopaths don't really faze me.
At this point, you're probably wondering how this review garnered four stars, right? It's simple: The good stories really are that good, and they outnumber the bad ones.
I'm not going to review every story, but I will say that there are some delightful highlights in this book:
- The Day That... Samie Sands works her magic on a story that is both heartbreaking and suspenseful. A painful coming-of-age story set deep within the universe of Samie's AM13 virus. While this is another fantastic addition to the universe she is cultivating in her own novels, this is also a well-told standalone story that needs no prior introduction. Her writing and the characters she introduces guide us into the terrible world she's created for us.
- Unlocked... Sara Schoen's story begins with enough questions of its own, and as the story progresses, it manages to fill the reader's head with even more questions. Sara is stingy with answers, which adds to the maddening tension she creates in the story. This is my first introduction to her work, and she does not disappoint.
- The Sound of Deep Waters... Jennifer Loring manages to turn a quaint holiday into an unending hell for one family. The emotional shifts in her characters are extreme, yet plausible, making them caricatures but completely believable as we follow them into the story. The landscape she creates for the story is alien, yet described to the point where I feel like I can see the horrors with my own eyes.
There are other stories that are completely worth reading, and a few that aren't, but these authors are definitely the ones worth taking notice of. Very excited to read more from them, and definitely considering the other "13" books worth the gamble.
Totally amazing, scary at its finest. Impossible to put down until I was finished. Each and every story was amazing. Appreciated being introduced to these writers and reviewing because I loved all the stories. Received an ARC
The plots were simple and not very well thought out. Many of the stories have a personal bias to them which I dislike in a good story. I could completely predict almost every outcome after the first page. One of the stories I didn't even finish because it was so bad.
The only story that is sticking out is D.A. Roach's. Even if you spend the 99 cents just to read hers it would be worth it. None of the others are sticking out to me. I kept putting this set down and waiting days to a week before picking it back up. I love the idea behind it but maybe being the 3rd set is just overkill now. I might go back to try and read the 4th but not anytime soon.
The Day That... by Samie Sands is in the only amazing book I have read out of this box set. I loved reading this story and can not wait to see what this amazing author will write. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about horror and Sci-Fi.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
For this collection so far I’ve only read The Day That by Samie Sands. This story I found interesting and well written. I recommend this story and I plan on reading the rest of the anthology.

The day that ... What will happen during this day? Read to what will happen during this day and those living through it will cope with what comes up during the day
