When ancient gods ruled and Druids kept Faith alive, the Celts thrived as a democratic, matriarchal society. Then savage Roman soldiers swept across Europe, killing and enslaving. The Celts did not succumb without a fight. Their Old Ways survived centuries of ruthless domain until another menace loomed: a tortured god worshiped in cold stone buildings. The sacred shores of Avalon began to drift away, the mists threatened to hide the island from mortal eyes forever.

Against the bleak backdrop of war, the gorgeous Scottish Highlands stood tall, sheltering its inhabitants from greedy invaders. Yet the reach of the eagle banners was long and the highlanders turned to the Goddess for protection. However, the sacred groves felt silent and grim as Avalon faded away. Once sad, pealing bells began to sound strangely comforting while the high walls of monasteries offered an alluring barrier from violence. Caught in the middle of this centuries-old war, a young High Priestess might be Avalon’s last chance.

Wise beyond her years and powerful like no other Priestess in her lifetime, Rowen had served the Goddess faithfully, forsaking her family and the company of her soulmate. When the Lady of the Lake asks for another sacrifice, it might be one too many for her scarred heart. How could she obey the Goddess without betraying Caddaric? Could she trust Eochaid, who embodied everything she despised and hated? Would she be able to fulfill her duties without losing her soul?

Caddaric had been Rowen’s companion in countless lives; but, now, they existed in different realms. Beautiful Rowen lived in the mortal world while sweet Caddaric remained in the sacred isle of Avalon, watching over her. Could he step aside to allow another man – a flesh and blood man – to become her protector?

Eochaid had sworn to protect the Old Ways. The rude warrior never quite understood his faith yet his loyal heart belonged to the Goddess. A gorgeous, fiery High Priestess was not in his plans. He would risk his life to protect Rowen; but, would the Goddess safeguard his heart? Could he defend the bewitching maiden from himself?

When stakes were so high that a simple mistake could cost their very world, a priestess, a Druid, and a warrior must learn to trust one another and the mysterious ways of the Goddess. Their success would save Avalon. Their failure would tear the island from the human realm forever, condemning it to oblivion.

Failure was not an option.

This is a standalone, historical/paranormal romance. Its mature themes - violence, religious war, and pagan rituals - might not be appropriate for audiences under 18.

I am part of the blog tour running for Celtic Fire with Xpresso Blog Tours. As part of the tour, I was sent a copy of the book for read and review. My overall star rating is 3.5 out of 5 stars. This is a Historical Paranormal Romance set in the Scottish Highlands during the time in history with the conflicts between the Celts and the Romans.

This story follows three characters: Rowen, Eochaid and Caddaric. Rowen and Caddaric have always been made in heaven but when the Lady of the Lake asks Rowen to do one thing that could cause a betrayal. Both living in two separate worlds, Eochaid's arrival causes conflicting thoughts for Rowen. One mistake could cause disaster for both worlds so all of the characters must tread carefully.

Each chapter in the story follows a different character POV which made the story easy to follow. The content of the book with mature scenes makes it a good 18+ story which was a fast-paced easy read. Personally for me, this isn't really the type of book I would have picked up but wanting to expand my horizons, I enjoyed the experience.

Can Avalon be saved? The Goddess has plans of her own.

A Priestess, torn between her past as she knows it with a druid and the future that could be before her with a warrior.

Rowen is a priestess to the Goddess and is committed to fulfilling the purpose to with which she is assigned. She cares for the people in her charge by healing them both physically and mentally and guiding them in the ways of the old gods.

While she abides in this world for this lifetime her soulmate, Caddaric remains in Avalon. They have been companions, lovers, and soulmates in many lives.

Why then is Rowen so drawn to Eochaid, a warrior who has been sent to protect the island from the Romans who seek to bring a new religion to usurp the old and control the people?

Rowen is very devoted to her path in life and a first appears to be a bit resistant & obstinant. But as the story continues, I found myself warming up to her character. Mostly in part to her interactions with Eochaid - it seemed to me that he brought out another side to her that at first wasn't apparent.

Rowen & Eochaid are drawn to each other like moths to a flame. Yet, with Rowen's stubborn & prickly nature, she pushes him away. Still, as Rowen's character continued to grow and change - they always came back to each other. I enjoyed watching their relationship grown and change throughout the story. The back and forth of their spats and humor had me turning the pages to see what would happen next.

Like a beautifully and lovingly woven tapestry, this story played out with the words as threads amidst the backdrop of the Celtic way of life as change is coming in the form of the Roman invaders.

Most definitely looking forward to seeing where the rest of this journey will take the reader.

Well written story with nice storyline and plot. The characters are well described. Sometimes I found the language was way to modern for this story. The main character was a brat at times. But apart from that it is an enjoyable read.

Wow simply WOW. I am of Irish and Scottish decent. And know
there were Celts in my past as well. I picked up this book as I
enjoy those stories. Always drawn to them. This one is so well
written and the fact that she motioned the reincarnation that most
live out of the story about Celts. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is a story of love and rebirth and how Karma and reincarnation
gives us the chance to correct the sins of our pasts. This is the
story of Eochaid and the high preistes Rowen and her love Chadric
. This was so fun to read and learn how they all interacted. Chadric
in Avalon and Eochade in our realm with Rowan. And how she
had to learn that even though we are reborn we are not always
reborn to the same place or same time as our soulmate and how that
soulmate can be even a family member and not the great love of
our lives. And who knows they may even be a child. This was one
hell of a tale and so fun to read I cannot wait to read the next book.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope
you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this
book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like
it when you do; they value your opinions too.

I was fortunate to be an alpha reader for this story. Although I was frequently wrong with my guesses of where the plot was headed, I loved the story and its characters. It also offered a really interesting look at the Celts and their religion. Rowen and Eochaid were a great pair - with his strength and her fire.

This was a great story and I can't wait for the next one.

I've always had a thing for the Celts and so I was intrigued by this book. I loved Rowen and how strong she was, and she was a leader to people and respected by everyone. Eochaid was humble yet dominating, and he definitely enjoyed getting under Rowen's skin. Caddaric was an interesting side character that I think I would like to see more of. I loved the different viewpoints and the discussion of past lives and how it leads to the current story. It was fantastic and I can't wait to read the next book when it comes out. I liked that it was set in the past but the conversations were more modern, and yet went with the attitudes and social norms of the people of the past.

A very enjoyable storyline..This book has taught me some interesting things about the Goddess based religion too. It contained romance, humor and knowledge of Wicca. I really loved the pairing of Eochaid and Rowan, and the blossoming love between them.

This was an interesting and fast paced story. Definitely...a Good read! Looking forward to Book 2 and hoping to read more about the lives of The High Priestess and her beloved Warrior.

Each book of Liz Gavin’s I’ve read have been amazing and when I heard that she was going to be releasing Celtic Fire I was well excited. This book isn’t like any of her previous books, but I can tell you now that you’ll be drawn in by the historical romance story that takes place. Normally I don’t read anything that’s historical but I knew that with Liz writing it I had to try it as I have loved everything she has written to date. Now being honest I honestly have no clue when it comes to books being written in old English, however I found this book easy to follow and enjoyed every word of it, I was gripped to this book from the very first page. I honestly can’t wait for the next book in this series as this was just utterly amazing.

I typically don't go for this kind of book, the kind that takes place with one character in another realm. However, I have enjoyed other books by this author and jumped at the chance to be an Alpha reader for this one. I was drawn into the story and even decided to purchase a copy when it released in finished form. Although I feel bad for Caddaric, I was rooting for Rowen and Eochaid the whole time. I loved the character of Eochaid! I also loved how strong Rowen was for herself and those she loved and cared for. I can't wait for book two.

I have never read a historical/paranormal romance before but Liz provided enough detail and description that I could easily follow along and understand the background. Celtic Fire was an engaging read and she created a cast of characters I couldn’t help but fall in love with.

The story captured my interest from the beginning, the characters were compelling and well developed, and the relationships were believable. Rowan and Eochaid were quite the pair! I loved her fire and feistiness and he exuded strength, power and sexiness!! Hello warrior **insert heart eyes** Seeing as it was a paranormal romance also involving some reincarnation, I could understand Rowan’s conflicting emotions when it came to her love and loyalty to Cadderic and her growing feelings for Eochaid. I must admit though, I was #TeamEochaid from the get go!

If you are a lover of historical or paranormal romance, I recommend Celtic Fire! If you are new to the genre, give it a go! I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to Alpha read this story. Thanks so much for the brilliant introduction to this genre and for allowing me on this journey with you Liz, I look forward to what comes next!

I don't usually read Historical/Paranormal books but this one caught my interest. It started out a little slow but then takes off. This is a very well written suspenseful read. I loved the authors clear descriptions of everything from religious ceremonies to the characters in this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to this genre. It was an interesting great read.

This book Has a very intriguing way of saying a story. But still it's nice read.
Don't let slow beginning make you stop! Later IT gets really well and its worth for sure reading IT!
We have 3 characters that we get to know from their POVs: Rowen a prisesses that is one of the last; Cadderic a previous lifes companion; Eoachid a worrior that has something in himself.
The story goupes around Rowen and Eoachid and its really enjoyable to get to know them, their reasons, past and what is going on on their heads.
The relation beethwen them was well developed and like real one! Great job of the author.

This is a book for adult readers and romance fans for sure

Good book, good history, old religion

I really liked this book.. The characters are well thought out. The author did a great job. The only thing I did not like, Is usually when you read something that is-- like historical (?) they use the language used at that time.. This author did not do that at all except for a few words.

It was a good book, it deals with an ancient religion when a priestess prays the the ladyog the lake for everything that was bestowed on them and for guideness. To day if they did it they would be called witches. They were called the old ways not slot of people believed in it

The description of this book was promising. I love a book that embraces Avalon and ancient times in Scotland. I am an Arthurian legend nerd so I was excited.
Truth be told, I wasn’t in love with Rowen right away. I thought she was just being difficult to be difficult. She was good with her people but when it came to be open, I felt her a bit cold. Yes, she has a past but I felt like her interactions with the male characters seemed one dimensional. It wasn’t until I was over halfway through the book that I felt anything from her and the other characters.

The only thing I disliked was how Gavin put modern phrases into the banter between the characters. It took me out of the world that she was trying to create.

Did I like this book? Yes, but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would.

This was the first book I'd read by Liz Gavin. Celtic Fire is a mixture of a history lesson, fantasy and every girls dream. Rowan is beautiful. The center of a triangle between the physical and the spiritual, Rowen, Caddaric and Eochaid do as the Lady of the Lake and the Goddess bid.

However, I found the mixing of past and present difficult to follow. Having read this type of thing in other books with no issue. I am not sure if it was the more formal language for the time period, or something as simple as the formatting.

Rowen and Eochaid prepare for the Great Marriage on Beltane while keeping the Romans from the last Druid refuge. Their success means everything to the Lady of the Lake and Avalon.

I liked this book....I didnt love it. As it was too much concerned with the setting up of the way the characters were being pulled in different directions by their hearts and their obligations. But once that was all set up I started to warm more to it.
Basically keep reading and you'll get a good book. There was a lot of intricate back story and the setting up of the story. But like I said, once you've got that into your mind, then it does pick up.
A good book to read over a weekend. ...it can't be rushed as you'll miss things. I receieved an arc copy of this book a I am under no obligation. This is my honestime review.

A very good book. I thought that the author did an outstanding job when she explained the importance of the characters having to be reborn to atone for the mistakes they had made in their previous lives. I also liked the details of the rites carried out for the season. The storyline of the times where it explained how the Romans Christian priests are forcing their religion on everyone and their soldiers are killing those who still believe in the old gods. Very well done.

A fascinating read!

An intriguing tale mixing the legend of Avalon and the Celts with bits and pieces of history. It explores the concept of soul mates, though maybe not quite as one would expect. There's a few darker scenes that are relevant to the storyline and to the lessons being received at that time. But the overall message is love, in all its forms, is neverending.

I'm not usually a fan of historical romance but this book sucked me in from the start. I couldn't pronounce some of the Celtic names but it didn't distract me from the story. I've read quite a few of Liz Gavins books and I think this one was actually my favourite.
Well worth reading!!
