10: A Memoir of Migraine Survival

Rate this book
Danielle Newport Fancher lives a double-life. In one life, she’s a smart, upbeat, and happy 30-year-old; her body is fit, she comes across as confident, and she always wears a smile. In her other life, invisible to the rest of the world, every minute presents a challenge to stay alive. That’s because she is at the mercy of her impulsive and unsympathetically cruel migraine brain.

A beautiful book that you won't regret reading

This was a wonderfully written book about a young woman who fought for herself against a condition that many of us would not be able to handle with such grace and power. Just because at times she has had to skip events because she has a debilitating migraine does not mean that she also does not live her life to the fullest. I am thinking of the time she and her brother went on vacation, and she was the first to volunteer for a physical feat during a group experience - and she nailed it. Her positive attitude is like a candle that won't go out. She inspired me.

This is a good book for anyone to read who has someone in their life with chronic migraines. I have migraines and was curious to read a book from a fellow migrainer's perspective. Dani's experience was very different and more intense than my own experience but many of the same feelings about not being able to be there for friends and family and wondering what people think when you simply cannot "push" through it were shared and hit home for me. I am glad that she had the courage to write this book.

I bought this book because like the author, I am a migraine sufferer. I enjoyed reading her account of her life and struggles and this book was a quick read. However, this was some of the worst writing I’ve ever read!! So choppy, weird internal dialogue, and just all around poorly written. I’m not trying to be mean, but it was extremely distracting and took away from her interesting life story.!

If you or anyone you know suffers from chronic pain...... not just migraines, this book will change the way you see them. I am a 55 year migraine sufferer and just read this book and for the first time in my life I feel like a human being not a headache waiting to happen! Buy this, read this, you won’t be sorry!

As a fellow migraine sufferer, Danielle's story is painfully (on more than one level) relatable. What a beautifully raw, brave look into the void that is chronic pain. If you love someone suffering from migraine, the insights this book provides could be a game changer. If you have migraines yourself... you're not alone.

Danielle Newport Fancher shares her very personal raw story of what it's like to live with chronic pain. Her writing is real and doesn't hold back as she reflects on her life since migraines. She finds optimism and hope in a seemingly never-ending torture and betrayal by her own body, her brain. She allows the reader to truly understand what migraines are, what it's like to live with an invisible disability, and how to live a productive life in the face of chronic pain. Danielle's strength and determination gives hope to others that it's possible to overcome the isolation due to chronic pain. Thank you for giving us the space to talk about a subject that's not openly discussed.

10: A Memoir of Migraine Survival is a well written, unique story of a young woman’s battle with chronic migraine. Danielle Fancher openly shares her countless struggles as she eventually learns to embrace a more spiritual life. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is close to someone who suffers from chronic migraine or any other chronic pain. I hope and pray that this exceptional memoir shines a light on this invisible illness and will start a campaign to help find ways to minimize the pain and ultimately find a cure.
