A gripping middle-grade adventure. Fast-paced and full of surprises.
A strange creature has been spotted in Crook’s Wood on the outskirts of Hampton Spa. Was it just a trick of the light or is there something more sinister and dangerous going on? There’s certainly something odd about Heath Grange, the ramshackle home of mysterious Professor Felso.
When Sophie and Sienna decide to investigate they may have bitten off more than they can chew. There are hostile forces watching their every move and the girls might be walking into a trap.
Who is eccentric Professor Felso and what is his strange obsession?
Why are people disappearing in the middle of Crook’s Wood?
Can the girls survive and get back to the town before disaster strikes?
Sophie and Sienna are back in another thrilling adventure that will set your pulse racing and keep you turning the pages.
Readers who enjoy Nancy Drew mysteries, Hardy Boys, or the novels of John Bellairs will enjoy this contemporary urban sci fantasy with lots of suspense, danger, and a strong friendship between two girls from parallel worlds. This is the second book featuring Sophie Watson, twelve-year-old of Hampton Spa, England; and Sienna, the sixteen-year-old youngest member of The Elite, from the parallel planet. After a hairraising ordeal on offcoast Kestrel Island, in the first book of this series, the two girls became fast friends, and now are spending the half-holiday term together, while Sophie's mom is standing election for the Green Party. Unfortunately, the missing instigator of trouble for whom Sienna has been searching has reappeared, and is involved with a scientist from Sienna's world, in a new move to take over the British government and the other world as well.
As a teenager, I definitely recommend this book. While I was looking for a nice and interesting book to read, I came across the first part of the storyline. I really enjoyed it, so I decided to get the second one. At the moment I am planning to get the third one. Both books that I have read have their own specialties and differences and are truly amazing. But I prefer the second part because it is a little more exciting throughout the book.
Of course, Kestrel Island is nice too but, in the beginning, it is a little bit confusing.
The bond of Sophie and Sienna is impressive. They stick together in any situation. Such as difficult or frightening Situations. They both trust each other through thick and thin even though they just meet a few months ago. Sophie takes her life into play for Sienna so she can get the orb and complete her mission.
I enjoyed Under Crook's Wood just as much as the first story. Sophie and Sienna are well written characters with lots of personality. I love their strength and perseverance. The story is fast paced and full of twists and turns. I can hardly wait to read the next book.
This book to me created a really realistic imagery in my head. Filled with unimaginable twists and turn this is a great book to read. It felt like they took me with them in their perilous adventure.
