Always You

He fell in love with the one girl he couldn’t have

Ethan Fraser is going places. He has his career mapped out in front of him and the fact he gets to work with his best friend, Violet Archer, every day is the icing on the cake. Just one problem - he might be totally, utterly, madly in love with her. Did he say “might be”? Screw that. He is.

He also happens to be dating Zoe - the best-looking, most popular girl in the office. He’s tried to make it work, but he knows he’s a rubbish boyfriend. Did he say “rubbish?” Screw that. He’s abysmal, catastrophic, hopeless . . .

Will Ethan ever pluck up the courage to tell Violet how he really feels about her? And, the question he is most scared to ask, could Violet ever see him in that way?

This short story friends to lovers novelette is a prequel to “Just Friends”, the first in The Agency series of novels by Elizabeth Grey.

This book is obviously a prequel to the main book and not much of interest really happens.

Ethan is in a relationship with Zoe who he works with but wants to be in a relationship with Violet who is his best friend that he also works with. He is late for dinner with Zoe (not realising it’s their 6 month anniversary) because of a work night out and ends up breaking up with Zoe and heading to Violets house.

That’s the whole plot! I’m not sure if I will continue reading the main books as nothing gripped me about this one.

the mmc was the most insufferable man i’ve ever read. just for reference, heres some things he’s thought or said:

—“she lets out a little laugh and her boobs jiggle.” (what was going through the authors head when they wrote that)

—“christ, she’s like the love child of donald trump and my little pony.” (what??)

—“i was late for fucking dinner, thats all.” (on his six month anniversary)

—“for god’s sake, i know im a shit boyfriend, but isn’t that a bit over-dramatic?” (she was crying because he stood her up on their six month anniversary to be with another girl)

—“the subtle, non-sexual contact makes the blood rush to my cock like im a horny teenager.”

and, oh guess what! he gets his brother to do all his presents shopping for christmas and birthdays. i think the precise words used were “i threw money at him, deposited him on oxford street, then picked him up two hours later after he’d selected the perfect gifts for mum, esme, and zoe.”

the writing was unbearable and the characters make me feel like committing crimes. fun reading!

Love in the workplace - is it always a mistake?

'Always You' is a kind of prequel to Elizabeth Grey's 'Just Friends,' a book I have also read and enjoyed very much - made me laugh when I most needed one.

It didn't matter that I read 'Just Friends,' first because this book goes inside Ethan's head and the inside of Ethan's head is a very interesting and funny place to be. Just Friends

'Always You' is a short, smart romantic comedy story (the only kind of romance usually I read) about the unspoken love that develops between two people who also just happen to be best friends and colleagues in work.

What I like most about this highly entertaining book is the way Elizabeth Grey gets into the character's heads, and their inner thoughts are funny and smart.

It's Christmas and Ethan's girlfriend, Zoe is all fairy lights and Santa tops while his only decoration is his beer can tree.

Ethan is doing his best, but he's a bit of a 'bad-boyfriend' to Zoe, at least that’s the way she see it.

He lets her down - mostly due to work commitments but she thinks its because he's seeing Violet and she's turning green - asking that fatal question: 'was she there?'

You feel bad for Zoe because she's tormented with thoughts of Ethan and Violet.

The scene between them as she asks him about Violet, and also feels guilty for asking is one of the best in the book - so real that you're cringing for her.

But Ethan's not such a bad boyfriend because he's not seeing Violet…

It's his thoughts that are the problem…

Thinking about Violet is Ethan's guilty pleasure - he tries to stop his secret habit - she's a colleague and his best friend - there's a lot to lose - but he can't stop himself.

If you're fed up with insipid characters and like smart romantic comedy - read this book, then read 'Just Friends' and enjoy!

It's the beginning

This little story is the beginning of a hot mess of confusion and a lot of teasing between our main characters.

I recall really wanted to read this as I thought it had potential. Boy was I wrong! You could probably fit this entire book in your lunch break. Not much to tell except you should probably skip this.

This was a prequel for another book but I don’t think I will be continuing this series. It wasn’t bad but I just didn’t really enjoy it.

I liked this quick little read. Honestly I’m very curious about the rest of the series now since this was just a prequel. I added them to my Amazon wishlist😂

Left Me Wanting More

This little quick short story, just left me unfulfilled and left me wanting more... Left me needing answers and pretty much just left me feeling unsatisfied at the end. Don’t get me wrong, for a free short story, I did enjoy it, but I felt like something was missing. It didn’t explain or go into depth with certain characters, not creating or building the right amount of character development for them and because of this I didn’t see myself caring about certain characters as much, such as Zoe, and especially Zoe and Ethan’s relationship. But the ending is what left me the most unfulfilled and dissatisfied.

When I finished reading this short story, I noticed that there are actually two full length books in this Agency series, one of which is from Violets perspective, which is interesting and might explain why this one ends the way it does. I’m not sure where that one takes place, the same time as this (as this one is from Ethan’s point of view), or afterwards, but it would be fun to read. To see if this short story is like a little Prequel, but now I’ve found that out, it’s made me want to read at least the first book in the Agency series “Just Friends”. I get to find out what happens with the characters afterwards and I hopefully get my ending!

Picked this up because I was interested in Just Friends but never mind. After reading this short prequel, I couldn’t wait to put it down so I could be out of my misery of reading this.
When I saw that the book is in a guy’s pov, I thought cool, I’ve never read a book like that before but man did it suck. The mmc, Ethan, was the most insufferable, dick-ish mmc I’ve ever read. The way he thinks! The way he treats people! The way he talks! The way he realises what he does is wrong and bad and still continues to do so!
I’ve never given a book a 1 star before but this one deserves it.
The longest 43 pages I’ve ever read.

I know this was a lead up to the full book where we go more into Violet and Ethan’s story, but I am so sad to say I really did not enjoy this.

It felt like 43 pages of unnecessities (I know that’s not a word but I’m using it). It made me HATE the MMC, so much, he seems like a complete jerk.

There’s no chemistry between the two leads, so I hope that whoever reads the main book finds some chemistry there. Notable mention, the ‘inside jokes’ in the first part where we meet the leads were not explained in any entirety, which was frustrating.

All in all, I just don’t think this was necessary, and it has not made me want to read the main book at all :(

Lovely short prequel to Book 1 and I really liked seeing things from Ethan’s perspective and finally fully understanding how he hard he fought to keep his true feelings for Violet a secret, so as not to allow the love he felt to impact their friendship. From Book 1 we’re made aware that Ethan has a relationship with Zoe, secretary to the CEO of their old advertising agency, but it was very interesting to see it play out and how it all ties in with the true feelings Ethan had for Violet all along.

Always you by Elizabeth Grey a fair four-star read. This was one of those stories that I picked up a later novel in the series and then decided to go back and start from the beginning, I will be honest if I had started this one first, I don’t know if I would have gone on to the series, which I have and I am enjoying it, so if like me this wasn’t amazing, do keep going. I enjoyed it, but there just wasn’t the hook, maybe as I really didn’t like Zoe, but that’s just me.

Incredibly short prequel story (3 chapters) told from Ethan’s POV. He’s madly in love with his best friend Violet, but he’s in a relationship with Zoe. They eventually split up and that’s about it! It’s a huge set-up for the following books but I’m not sure what I read here was enough to pull me in to reading any more of them. Not sure there was any need for all the swearing either. But what I did read was quite well-written though.

Fabulous, all Elizabeth Grey's books are!

I highly recommend every single book in this series. I am currently reading Freja and looking forward to the next 2.
Laugh out loud funny, quirky characters with questionable dress sense, women who have careers and good friends.
Each situation and plot is well-crafted, beautifully written also.

i read this short story in 1 sitting as it’s only 40 odd pages. it was a good start to the series i think but so brief it was hard to form any sort of opinions on the story just from this book alone. it was intriguing thought and i continued to read the rest of the series. told through the eyes of ethan, the opposite from the rest of the books.

I know this is free to encourage you to read it, and then continue onto the main series, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't like character. It is well written and a good introduction, just not the story for me.

A cute short story

I am glad I read Just Friends first even though this was the prologue to that. It gave me more insight into what I already knew about the characters. An extremely quick read and now I’m hooked and must finish the series....

Unfinished yet calming

I really like how this book told about Ethan' story. Though it's short, I can feel the way Ethan felt to Violet but I wish this book could tell the stories till he proposed her.

This was a prequel to the series but... nothing really stood out or made me want to even consider reading on. I didn't connect with the characters, their relationships (or lack thereof). Not for me, I guess.

I was hoping to read a short feel good novel. Instead this writing makes women seem like they are nothing but a sex object and arm candy. If you want women with intelligence, personality, strength and character. Don't bother. It's not worth your time.

Always You is a short story that is the prequel to the first book of ‘The Agency Series’ - Just Friends.

This was such a quick read and it really gives you the taste of what is to come in the series and leaves you wanting more.

Elizabeth Grey’s writing style is witty and will have you laughing out loud! This is definitely a series I will look out for.

I got this ebook/short story for free from Amazon Kindle. It was a cute little read but nothing particularly unique or surprising. I do enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope so I may continue with the series... or may not. We'll see! :)
