I don't even know where to start. This is a short historical novel that I found in the newly posted holiday romance audiobooks on Hoopla. It was such a strange experience of unrealistic depictions and then all-sex-focused - yet read in this grandmotherly, singsong "children's story" audio.

Anna is a mail-order bride from Charleston who is out of place in the cold of Montana. The rest of the plot is Anna going "oops" and nearly dying and both MCs describing what how each really wanted the other and what each wanted to do to the other. I mean, he was talking about his family's being killed and all she could think about was where the dog was and how hot he looked. Then he had to keep going out in the blizzard to get away from her because they also had to wait 30 days??? He's also a paragon who's been cooking and caring for her during "Aunt Flo" (totally realistic for mid-1800s?) and there's lots of stripping and baths.

Anyway, finally, IT happens. And IT is so behind closed doors that we don't even see the doors. I wasn't expecting groundbreaking material - but I was curious how this would all work with the grandmotherly audio and all the panting and lead-in. Because it was ALL panting. And now come to find out it was a Christian book??? Seriously? I've never had such a flesh-focused read, and I've read racy novels.

This is an OK Western romance, with mostly likable characters. It is a sweet romance, and does not contain sex scenes. There were a few editing problems, and I thought the story was a bit too unrealistic.

I did get irritated with Anna a few times, because she should have tried harder to adjust to her new life. She realized that it would be really different from where she lived before, but it seemed to me that she didn't really want to adapt. She was too busy wishing she could go home. Also, her thing with Christmas was a little weird. I won't give spoilers as to what it was, and I get that it was because of her past -- but that shouldn't have been so hard for her to get over.

It also bothered me that Anna and Levi didn't really talk to each other. If they had communicated as they should, most of their problems could have been avoided. It always bothers me when a couple has problems because of a lack of communication -- seems like the author does it just to add unnecessary angst.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

5th book in the series. I read all of them in order. It is best that you do. I loved each and every one. They are Christmas stories of love how 5 friends became mail order brides and what happed the month of December, their first month of marriage. Christmas is the theme in all of them. The first and last chapters are in the ladies old age and the rest is the story of finding love with their husbands and how they help the ladies find joy, love, and peace in their new lives. Anna's story was beautiful yet kind of bittersweet as you find out she is dying in six months and this will be the last time she tells her story to the grandchildren. It is a Christmas tradition that the 5 friends meet together with their families and friends and tell the story about being 5 mail order brides. Well worth reading.

Another wonderful story for this series.

Another good story in this series and I found another new to me author. This was the kind of story I would have lived it I had the chance. I did get to live in Montana for a time but no where near the mountains but on the eastern plains. I did see my fair share of cowboys, ranches and even a rodeo, but it was cold. I can imagine Anna driving the sleigh into town and freezing while doing it. One thing these stories are right about is winter is very cold in Montana and even on the plains.
Read this story and the ones that came before. What a wonderful series of five friends becoming mail order brides and escaping the war torn south.

The author made some choices that, although I'm sure they were not intentional, made her work look lazy

she completely bypasses how the arrangement came to be
she boils it down to a few paragraphs and seems to be in a rush to start writing from the point the H/h meet

"hey there's some guys looking for brides
sure let's go
after some travel we got there"

that's it
that's all we get

and even when they do meet it's rushed
the result of giving the readers very superficial accounts is that they might not care about your book

not only that
but the heroine was very hard to like
she's just...annoying ...
she has some behaviors that make you think she's an entitled 7 year old

alas
this wasn't a hit for me

'Just promise me you won't be late for the birth of our first child'

Can Levi make up for being late for their wedding? He is a rancher at the mercy of the weather, his animals and wolf attacks but that doesn't mean he isn't prepared to love Anna with everything he has. He may be a little rough around the edges, but Levi is a true gent...even when they are caught in the hay barn!
Anna is completely lost and bewildered...she is overwhelmed by the ferocity of the blizzards, very homesick, still grieving and shocked by the feelings she has for Levi - your heart goes out to her as she tries to work through her new life in Angel Creek.

Levi and Anna

This series has been a joy to read and I'm sure you will enjoy it too. Now about Levi and Anna. Levi was a rancher about an hour from town. Anna was one of the five ladies that arrived in Angel Creek as a mail order bride. Will they find love as they both dreamed of or would she go back to Charleston? There are adventures, some very exciting times and much humor too. This is the shortest of the five, but will give you a very good and enjoyable read.

A wonderful story and series

This story as well as the others in this series are heartbreaking leading to heartwarming. Fives women leave the war torn south to be mail order brides in Montana. The adventure is a struggle for former rich ladies who have lived with servants their whole lives. I highly recommend you start at the first book in this series and enjoy them all.

I have really enjoyed reading the stories about how these five southern belles found love. Levi is an impressive man in this book. He finds his true love where he would least expect it.

Anna and Levi's story seems to be mostly about whether or not they'll wait the suggested 30 days (was that really a thing?) to consummate or not. It seemed more risque as well once they became true mates.
I wasn't impressed and won't be reading any more of this series or this author.

These are sweet stories of hope and history oh to go back to that time. The things these ladies go through are so similar to what I can see my ancestors having gone through back then. Excited to read more books for my Christmas in July!

Sweet story

The ending seemed a little rushed, but a lovely story and happy ending. I wish there was just one more chapter to highlight a few things at the end of the 5 friends stories.

Patient rancher

Enjoyed this book. I would have liked Anna to learn to cook from her sister in law or Sarah. She could have become a author or kept a diary.
