"If you love suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat, can't-put-it-down-action-packed-thrillers ... the type of book where you can't wait to get up in the morning and read more as soon as you wake up, this is the book for you!" — Tony Kaup
Three killers roam the streets.
Only one psychic can stop them.
Yet he can't recall a thing.
As Chance Ripley’s tangled memory unravels, his brutal past seeps through, and he learns that the visions tormenting him are no mere fantasies, no flits of his imagination sent to plague his waking hours. They are real, and if he refuses to act, more people will die. Himself included.
To stay still is to face death.
But Chance can't escape. He's locked in an asylum.
"As usual, Romyn doesn't give the reader much chance to breathe once the action starts... If you're still thinking about a book several weeks later, it's done its job. I absolutely recommend this one!" — Adina
A terrifying storm lashed Sydney’s North Shore on June 21st, 1975. Boats were swamped and jetties smashed in what some claim was the worst storm to hit the coast for four decades.
In the midst of the chaos, Luke Romyn’s parents battled to get to a hospital to birth their baby boy. Normally their idyllic island cottage was a near-paradise; on this night the journey to the mainland in their tiny boat seemed like a passage through Hell. Their son was born near midnight, but part of the storm never left him.
When Luke reached fifteen years of age his father was killed while working in Fiji, leaving Luke and his mother alone. At times, the only things to get Luke through his grief were the stories playing out in his head, endless fantastical tales of lands both distant and near, with characters who would protect him from any tragedy.
At eighteen, Luke began working in nightclubs as a bouncer. Unbeknownst to him, this was simply the first step on a trek which would dictate much of his life from that point on. For over two decades since, Luke has worked in the security industry; from bouncing in some of Australia's roughest pubs and nightclubs to protecting Mickey Mouse and the Disney crew from the overzealous jaws of tenacious toddlers. He's been bodyguard for celebrities internationally and chased feral pigs and snakes from jungle sets on Steven Spielberg productions. Luke has traveled the globe and spent time in some of the most amazing locations the world has to offer.
This experience fuels the Australian writer’s ever-expansive imagination, and he pours it into his novels, combining fact with fiction, history with fantasy, delivering engrossing action-thrillers which leave fans gasping for more. Luke’s quick wit has seen his social media following explode, and he is currently one of the most prolific social media celebrities in Australia, with several hundred thousand followers across the internet.
Publishing his first book, The Dark Path, in 2009 saw it voted in the top 10 horror novels of that year, even though Luke denies ever intending the novel to be classed as horror. Luke Romyn is now one of the most popular indie authors in the ever-growing eBook market and personally completes everything from cover art to final formatting, working tirelessly with editors so as to refine the best stories possible for his readers. The results are international bestsellers you’re certain to love diving into. Hundreds of thousands of readers can’t be wrong.
This is a dark and violent tale of one man's descent into madness. The protagonist Chance keeps "body-hopping" into victims of horrible torture and murder: This is definitely not recommended for the squeamish or the faint of heart, as some scenes are told in horrific detail. Luckily, most of the disturbing torture and murder takes place in the first couple of chapters, after which the narrative settles into the bizarre and confused state of Chance, the main character. Is he schizophrenic, hopelessly delusional, batshit crazy? We are never really certain, and nether is he. Certainly Evil with a capital E is a major factor here, but which side is Chance on? At times philosophical, and spiritual, this story is also surreal and disturbing. Just like the main character Chance, we the reader are constantly wondering IS THIS REAL? What is reality, anyway?
Can you rate a book zero stars? I've read some positive reviews of this work and I just don't see it. The book felt like a hot mess the entire way through with the author coming up with new ideas throughout and just throwing them in. It made no sense, the dialogue was weak, the characters weaker, I didn't even care about the main character in this book much less any of the other characters who were at best, shallow. To make matters worse the author used NYC as the backdrop and the author clearly didn't bother to do any research on it. Nowadays it would take what, 10 minutes to figure out some basics like what areas you would pass driving from Princeton to the Bronx? Truly, this is the laziest sort of writing. I got the digital copy of this book for free from Amazon Prime and frankly, I still felt like I overpaid. The author has other works but I just can't even attempt to see if they are any better right now after reading this mess.
This was a great story. Fast, crazy and initially hard to follow the narrative evolved into one of the most engaging science fiction stories I've ever read. Talk about intense-- I mean, wow! The main character, Chance, is a mental patient. At first I didn't know whether I should feel sorry for him or doubt his reliability in reporting the action. His understanding over the arc of the story becomes the reader's understanding. Thanks to the author's skill, I now know what it feels like to be psychic, telekinetic and schizophrenic. All in all, a great read.
The main character is Chance. He wakes up in a mental hospital with no memory. Yet he has "dreams" or "visions" of women being murdered,,, as if he is inside the women as they are being murdered.. He also sees the murderers - there are 3 of them - thus the name Trinity. The books is about psychic experiences and fantasy happenings. Therefore if you are a person who likes reality - this would not be the book for you Since I do not need reality to enjoy a book - I really enjoyed it :)
Originality none, great characters no. I really love psychological thrillers, especially when centering around a mental hospital, the imagination can go anywhere.Unfortunately, this is not original in anyway. It began with promise, but quickly ran off the rails. Boring, ridiculous and a true waste of time.
Chance Ripley can't recall anything about his past, but dreams about women in the act of being murdered. In his dreams he becomes the women, feeling their pain and seeing their killers, but is unable to stop the crimes. Read the rest of the review on my blog: https://shouldireaditornot.wordpress....
Fast paced. Wonderful characters. Kept me up reading into the early hours. The concept of psychic powers being used this way could make it hard to sleep at night. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very thought provoking.
Stayed up all night reading this book. If you like constant action packed adventure, and paranormal experiences you will love this book. Highly recommended.
Disjointed plot. It appears the author wanted to deliver a great story but the plot sequences were a mish mash of dangling scenarios . Characters were hollow and not all were interesting
I don't do a lot of reviews but this author and book is so worth the time to check his books out! This book in particular reminds me of S King. 4 1/2 stars!
