Krista Lakes is a writer of romances that leave you feeling good and always have a happily ever after. She has two boys and a husband that keep her busy, not to mention two cats and a dog.
This read just like a Hallmark Christmas Movie(only steamier) and I am 100% fine with it. I loved this from the very first page. Will need to reread again next year.
Holly is a sweet person who is a gem. She is a teacher who was awarded a huge education award which she definitely deserved and won a ski trip as a side benefit becauseof it. It's there where she met sexy and handsome Nathan. They had this beautiful weekend. Their weekend together felt like some movie reel- like it unreal but most definitely fabulous. Then life gets in the way after their weekend together and it seems there are people trying to keep Nathan and Holly apart. Will they get their HEA and get back together?? Oh I truly love this story.. Krista has another hit on her hands again!!! Great main characters and sweet plot.
We have a touch of a LOT of references to Disney princesses. First we have Merryweather, Flora and Fauna our "fairy godmothers" then we have our bookstore that we grew up in. Instead of dwarfs we have our children. But the most important part is our Prince Charming saving the town and making our dreams come true after he of course nearly destroys it.
If you are looking for a Hallmark Christmas special, this is the book for you
oh, this is the same author i read the other day .. i am almost positive ... gotta make sure? i loved this read more, 'cause it is Christmas ... The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to read a book which was free (at some point). Kindle freebie on November 12, 2018 (currently still free at Amazon and also in Kindle Unlimited as of writing this post)
I was half in and half out here. I was all in for Holly, her Dad's bookstore, the small town, her teaching and students . I enjoyed the skiing and the Colorado setting. The technology and small business aspect appeals to me also.
I was out for the billionaire who only cares about money. This was too cliche. I hated Lucy and her brief parts. Nathan, at least remembered being a human being, he supported Lucy in the end. I felt there were loose ends with her and probably because she was not a fully developed character, more just a villain to hate.
I really loved Holly's students and I cried over their hopes and fears, also their Christmas gifts. I had problems with the insta-love and the predictable issues. Love under the Mistletoe is sweet, interesting and has Christmas magic.
Who doesn't just love a Christmas miracle? And with Merryweather and Flora behind the magic, love seems to be in the air.
Nathan, a CEO, and Holly, a teacher are brought together via some Christmas magic. I ADORED this story. I'm a sucker for the sappy, cheesy, sweet, and sexy Christmas stories, and this one I enjoyed to the end!
Holly Jones graded her 2nd grade students’ class papers while she and her friend, Aliyah Jameson, were driving the snowy roads to the fancy Blue Aspen Ski Resort. The purpose of this trip, aside from a mini-vacation, was for Holly to receive the Educator’s Award for being the “best teacher in the nation”, a special honor since her students had nominated her! Aside from the award, the party held there would raise funds for scholarships. As they drove, Aliyah asked Holly if her dad was still closing his business. The biggest employer in town, Elements Computer Technologies, had been bought out by a large tech firm and was relocating to San Francisco. This would be devastating for many of the businesses in town as people would be moving and their customer base would drastically drop. It was not a happy event for the town.
As they rounded a curve, the lodge before them made both women gasp in awe! It was beautiful and the magic of Christmas came alive. As they checked in, they were given their tickets to the award ceremony and the information about the hot springs available to them. Holly turned quickly and ran into a handsome man. This might be a very good trip indeed! Merryweather agreed with that assessment – magical love was popping up all over and Holly and Nathan would be good for each other.
Nathan Reed, CEO of Paradigm Technologies and a billionaire, will be presenting the teacher award at the ceremony. His current mindset that “money was everything” had taken him from the joy of being creative and innovative and caring about the success of the companies to merely managing the technology they gathered with a sole focus on profits. He meets the small town school teacher, Holly, who has a very different vision of life, seeing money as a means to generously share with others to make their lives better. They spend time together and the laughter they share brings him comfort. Drawn to each other – and with a little touch of magic – can Nathan find Christmas and love again in his heart? Or will Holly end things when she finds out that Nathan is the man uprooting the lives of everyone she loves.
This book was such a delightful read, perfectly paced and enjoyable. I love the interspersed humor since it clearly shows the reader the character’s personality through the teasing banter among friends. The story line is reminiscent of Scrooge having his life turned around as he questions his values and is reminded of what really matters. I think the reader will fall in love with this story, an easy and memorable reading experience.
Love Under the Mistletoe was the perfect story for me to read just before Thanksgiving. It put me in the holiday spirit by reminding me to read for pleasure and suspend reality and allow for the possibility of magic to give me my HEA. Lakes puts her spin on A Christmas Carol with this contemporary story about Holly Jones a delightful second grade teacher being rewarded with a weekend ski trip to Aspen to receive her Teaching Award for the year. It happens to be Nathan the all business and no fun billionaire there mixing responsibility with a weekend at his favorite ultra high end ski resort, who is going to present Holly's award. As luck, Merryweather and her sisters Flora and Fauna would have it they meet before the awards and there is a spark!
I enjoyed the getting to know you and hot flirting between the couple. The ski weekend was lovely and Merryweather seems to be everywhere with a helping hand. Any readers who pick this book from the Clean and Wholesome catagory are going to to bleach their eyeballs though because there is on page smexy times all over the place! Ha!
The save our small town feel of the second half of the story was perfect to keep my mind off the billions that Nathan checks on constantly in his accounts and on the true meaning of the holidays and what it means to be a good person and fall in love.
This story was what I needed to get me in the spirit to grocery shop and cook Thanksgiving dinner! Ha! I hope it does something similar for you.
We have a modern day spin on The Christmas Story meets Cinderella featuring our Hero, Nathan, as a non-celebrating wealthy Scrooge, and our school teacher heroine, Holly. Nathan was raised by a father who taught him that making money at all cost was most important. Personal sacrifices should be made to ensure that money remains in abundance. Personal fun, happiness and "doing the right thing"? Bah humbug...overrated!
While on vacation in an exclusive ski resort (modeled after Aspen), he meets Holly who happens to be staying at the same resort because of an award she wins. Her best friend who was her plus one, falls ill so Holly is left to enjoy the slopes by herself, until she runs into Nathan again. They start hanging out as friends, which later includes certain benefits, with neither one of them looking beyond the vacation fling. Which goes great, until each learns they are inter-connected to her small town. Nathan's company is about to uproot a small tech company in Holly's town and relocate it to San Francisco, taking with it several families the town needs to sustain itself, including Holly's father's bookstore.
The story is told from a dual POV so we hear Nathan's inner turmoil as the desire to make more money collides with his heart which is say when is enough, enough? As a second grade teacher, Holly is trying to lift the spirits of her students whose families will be making the relocation, leaving behind their friends and home. Three older women weave a little Christmas magic to try and get these two together for a HEA. Will they succeed?
Lots of references to fairy tales, including the names of the three helpful sisters. Lots of nods to A Christmas Carol. Plus, every Hallmark Christmas movie ever made seems to have been the basis for this story. And it becomes a little ... much.
Some things - like Nathan's mantra "money is everything" - get repeated ad nauseam. Even after he begins to think otherwise, he keeps saying it. Little things get repeated like this often through the book, as though to remind the reader of something that was just mentioned five pages previously. (Seriously, I stopped counting how many times Holly tells Nathan about the party in the bookstore where her father dresses up as Santa and hands out presents. Twice in one chapter if I'm not mistaken!)
So a lot of slow build-up, and the inevitable happens. Unfortunately, the ending was too easy. Much like with a Hallmark movie.
But the worst?
Still an enjoyable story overall, though I would have suggested another round of edits to tighten up (read: eliminate) the repetitions. I will definitely give Lakes another try at some point.
Ms. Lakes has written a wonderfully cheesy Christmas romance that follows the classics. As the Grinch, you have boring, grumpy, hardworking CEO Nathan. The heroine is the overworked, happy Teacher of the Year Holly. Holly has won a free weekend at a fancy ski resort & a fancy party where her award is celebrated. After her friend & coworker succumbs to food poisoning, Holly runs into Nathan on the ski slopes & they end up having a great weekend. Now, the weekend is over & the real world creeps in. Can they find a way to be together? Will Nathan realize that money isn’t everything?
I really enjoy Krista Lake’s writing & character development. What really stood out here is Nathan paying attention to what the kids wanted & needed. The interactions between Holly, Nathan & the kids in her class really made the book. I really expected Lucy to have an epiphany & change her ways but I had no trouble disliking her & her lack of loyalty to Nathan. The interactions between them didn’t come across as boss & employee but rather that she crossed the line. The romance was sweet in the beginning & ending and had plenty of heat to keep them warm.
A modern day Scrooge story told with a few angels and a lot of snow. Holly is a school teacher that has won a teacher of the Year award and a stay at a very expensive ski lodge. Nathan is a CEO that vacations at the same lodge and is presenting the award. They meet before the ceremony and have a strong attraction for one another. Nathan can let all his business life go for the time that hes there. He especially is happy to do so since his latest business deal has gone all wrong. I enjoyed this story. Nathan is a man who has moved up the ranks into the CEO position ruthlessly and motivated by money. Money is everything to him. He has no time for relationships except those he surrounds himself with. They think it time for him to find someone too. Holly is just the one to make his heart grow. She is content with her life. Her students take priority and it shows. She has fun with friends and her dad as well. Holly shows him what life could be like if he ever left the office. Beautifully written.
A beautiful story of a teacher who has a gift of making everyone feel special. Nathan, a CEO of a very large company finds his soul mate on vacation. Holly, had won the educators award, that her students have nominated her for. She gets put up at the Blue Aspen Ski Resort, which is a swanky ski resort, where the award ceremony is going to be held. She meets Nathan, as they were checking in. When they meet again skiing, they find an attraction that is hard to deny. One problem, his company has bought out the company that's keeps her little town afloat. They are planning on moving it to California, which means the town businesses can't make it without the people who keep them going. Holly's, children in her class are devastated as they will have to leave their life as they know it for California. This is a feel good story of love and finding the path to true happiness. Another great story by a wonderful author.
Love Under The Mistletoe by Krista Lakes is a 4 star read. Holly Jones is a 2nd grade teacher and she’s been awarded, Educator of the year, which she has to go to a swanky ski resort to collect her award, when her friend falls ill with food poisoning Holly must entertain herself. After bumping into Nathan a few times she realises they have a connection but it’s not until later she learns that his company is responsible for most of her town relocating to San Francisco after they bought out a company in her town. Nathan Reed is the billionaire CEO of Paradigm technologies, he seems to be stuck in a bit of a rut, his life motto is “Money is Everything “ until he meets Holly, then the things that mattered before don’t seem to matter anymore. The pair are helped along in their “journey “ by some magical intervention. I loved this story it really gave me some distance from real life. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Love Under The Mistletoe book has on-page sex but only mild cursing. Use your own discretion when reading.
This story was a little different than Ms. Lake's typical billionaire books. While it follows Ms. Lakes' formula in that financially-struggling Holly does meet and fall in love with a billionaire who woos her with things his money can buy while they're at a the ski resort, I really liked the way that once they got to her hometown, things changed. I adored how they got to know each other and the way that Nathan settled into small town life. It was really sweet watching him figure his life out, even if he lost his way briefly.
I also loved the part that Merryweather, Flora, and Fauna played in the story. They added so much to a really fun Christmas story.
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a billionaire love story and or a Christmas story with a really fun whimsical twist.
Magical Christmas Romance! Krista Lakes know how to make all her characters dreams come true as well as her readers. You will be taken on a magical Christmas journey that is filled with passion, sweetness, heart and the real Christmas meaning. Utterly unique. She is an excellent writer with books that ooze heartfelt goodness. And gosh did I ever fall in love. This was blissful.

ONE SURPRISING TREAT!!! Oh my, talk about putting the cart before the horse. This is one exciting, entertaining, intriguing, gut-wretching, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. I was a goner from the git-go. With a whirlwind of emotions and events that really make the storyline pop. All the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for remarkable experience. As the drama, misunderstanding, lies and suspense increases steadily as the tension spirals and the plot thickens. The characters and their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balance out perfectly. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it's easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another. Krista did an incredible job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Krista, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Holly is a school teacher and has won teacher of the year and a trip away. Nathan is a billionaire CEO on vacation at the same lodge that Holly is at and is presenting the award for teacher of the year. When they meet the attraction sparks between them. While both are vacationing they give into each other and share their time together. However when Holly learns who Nathan is she tries to convince him to keep business in her town so no one will lose their jobs. Holly shows Nathan that there is more to life than just making money and gets him in the holiday mood. Will Nathan be able to keep his promise?
This is a great holiday story that will hold your attention from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This wonderful read is the kind that warms your heart and it does make you think of miracles that can happen and sometimes do in life, you just have to have hope and this wonderful story did that for me. Krista Lakes certainly knows what her readers want with this superb storyline set around Christmas time! The characters are absolutely adorable and makes one think of Christmas’ past in your childhood! A book I can only but highly recommend as the perfect must read. Will Christmas still be Holly’s HAPPY 😃 Can Holly save her father’s bookstore and his life’s dream? Will Nathan choose money or Holly, or will Lucy’s decision be Nathan’s downfall? Will this be Holly’s worst Christmas ever? You have to one-click this book for the answers! I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy
Wow I mean this was a fun filled, fairy godmother, loved the feels type of book.
Holly is a dedicated teacher and her getting this award proves how much she is good and loves what she does.
Although her love life is like a Sahara dessert her best friend Aliyah convinces her to try and meet someone not knowing by bumping into the handsome stranger he would the one for her.
Nathan is a highly successful business man that this weekend getaway is needed in ways you couldn’t think. When a lovely stranger bumps into him and doesn’t recognize him right away Nathan knows this may be a trip that will leave him very happy.
But when work shows up demanding some answers, Nathan realizes that maybe this isn’t for him, that maybe all he is is a moneymaker.
Loved it hands down, has so many feels, fair godmothers do exist, and love will always win.
This story is very simply one of the better ones I have read that happen around Christmas time. What beautiful story and actually a really great romance of the best kind. The story line is there, the characters are beautiful, both the main characters as well as all those on the sides, but probably one of the ones i liked the most was the old owner who was selling his company. Why I liked that guy, well, he has a clear view of life, don´t vaste it on only money, people matter and I love that. Of course the money will not keep you happy and surrounded by nice family when older... This story is actually on the longer spectrum but it could have been longer and I would have kept reading just as much a happy camper as I was while reading this one.

Krista Lakes does it again! What a fantastic book! Had I fully known about this book prior to delving in I may have decided to skip it because books with magic in don’t normally do it for me but I’m so glad I gave this a chance as I loved it! Holly meets Nathan and they have a sudden attraction. They come across various bumps on the way to their happily ever After but thanks to some wonderful fairy godmothers casting a little magic when needed the story progresses beautifully! I adored the connection between Holly and Nathan, the extra characters added more sparkle and amusement and the whole book oozed romance, Christmas cheer and Magic. Completely worth a read before Christmas! I was lucky to receive an ARC of this book (as well as buying it myself!) and am leaving an honest review of my true opinions.
I was entertained. I was pleased with the ending. But a lot of this book needed work. Clearly the author originally wrote this in first person and then someone did a bad job converting it to third, including mixing pronouns. The "best friend" is a complete plot device, so much so that when he spends the afternoon at the school they both work at, she never stops in to meet him. In fact, I don't think they meet through the entire book. What kind of best friend is that? The magical love elves thing was pretty unnecessary and weakens the book a little. The list goes on. But if you just take the book for entertainment value, it was enjoyable enough for 2.5 stars.
A great story from Krista Lakes that puts the sparkle and magic into the season. Holy is a second grade teacher on her way to receive an educators award at a luxury ski resort when she literally runs into billionaire Nathan. Nathan's life is his work and money but sometimes fate has other plans. Moving the technologies company out of Holly's hometown has dire consequences not just for the town, but Holly's heart. After meeting Holly, the numbers in his bank account don't bring the rush they once did, but will he make the right choice??? A beautiful story that opens the eyes to what really matters in life and love. A great cast of characters that will bring a smile or grunt to your face.
I never would have considered mixing Cinderella with A Christmas Carol, but that’s exactly what this felt like. The story is witty and charming, a bit silly and oh so sweet. Holly’s an award-winning teacher whose students are her life. Nathan’s a computer genius who’s allowed his position as CEO to take over his life. A chance encounter at a ski resort sets some special holiday magic in motion. Are these two the answers to each other’s holiday dreams? With a little nudge they just might be. I loved watching this pair together. They brought out the best in one another. It was almost painful for me when things weren’t going right in their relationship. I was sad to close the cover on this book when it was over. I was enjoying it that much.
A wonderful cheesy sexy christmas romp With the usual grumpy christmas hater and the ever happy one trying to change their mind
Holly has won teacher of the year and her prize is a weekend at a top end ski resort where her prize will be awarded to her when her friend gets food poisoning she is left to her own devices so she heads to the ski slopes There she meets Nathan grumpy CEO he is boring and never relaxes but she has a wonderful effect on him and he actually starts to enjoy his weekend But when they have to return to real life at the end of the weekend what will happen Will he rethink his ideas to close the work that keeps her town afloat and will devastate her and her students You will have to read to see
Love Under the MIstletoe by Krista Lakes is a very well written book full of holiday magic. I absolutely love holiday inspired romances and I adored this one. I really enjoyed all the settings and the ways in which Holly and Nathan kept bumping into one another and magically getting snowed in at a magical resort. While their lives are worlds apart, they share many similar interests. The real magic happens when they are together and I fell in love with these two because despite their obvious differences it's just as equally obvious that they belong together. An added bonus is the parallel to the Christmas classic, A Christmas Carol, and of course the HEA. Their ending is especially fitting for both Holly and Nathan.
This is a fun, heart warming love story that you will not be able to put down!! You have a hard working, lonely CEO Nathan Reed and the over worked but fun loving teacher Holly Jones both at a luxury ski lodge for the weekend!! These two meet and there is Christmas magic that happens and it draws these two together!! These two have many obstacles to climb but with a little magic and hope, these two could be perfect for each other!! Nathan has to choose between a life of money, wealth and loneliness or choose love and fulfillment with Holly! I love that love wins in the end!! Don't hesitate to one click this fabulous love story!!
Wow this is an amazing story I loved reading it from start to finish and I didn't put it down once I just kept turning the page's. Nathan and Holly met at a ski resort where Holly won a teaching award, there connection and chemistry was off the charts. Magic was definitely in the air for them, after many twists, turns and a lot more snow and magic everything worked out as it should and a happy Christmas was had by all. I definitely recommend this book by Krista she is an amazing author and puts so much work into her books that you feel that you are living the story with them. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Amazing Book.
