I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I joined the Air Force, and my career took me from coast to coast before depositing me in the St. Louis, Missouri area for several years. After a tour in Korea and a short return to the St. Louis area, I retired and moved to the greater Denver, Colorado metropolitan area.
I write speculative fiction, mostly science fiction and fantasy. My favorite writers over the years have been Robert E. Howard, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Michael Crichton.

Colonel Lonny Myers is leader of the Elite Response Force, he is leading operations against an AI incursion threatening mankind, at the behest of the Bureau. Sadly the bureau has control of his DNA and he is cloned to optimise operations, alongside some of his fellow team. Others are not so lucky (or are they) and no clones are available to help them live again, on death.
The Guardian defends them from their own AI going wrong, and Lonny is given access to The Guardian to help him with the war against the offensive AI. But with all artificial constructs there is a risk, so The Guardian is derived from an organic source.

This story covers two battlefields where the offensive AI is being fought simultaneously by ERF personnel, alongside the Combined Forces military and the Intelligence Bureau staff. The small ERF team will be responsible for ensuring the completion of the task if the entire Combined Forces fail in eradicating the AI.

This is the fifth book in the series, so it is definitely worth reading the other four books first to get the backstory in this epic finale. It is worth it anyway due to the quality of Adams writing.

This is an in depth, multi-dimensional science fiction story with great detail, that cannot be beaten for its quality of writing and back story.

And, oh, what an ending! There were hints potentially in the main body of the story and I saw them, but didn't see that anything would come from them. Such a sad tweak to the story.

"How long can you breathe the air?” Kleigshoen’s lips twisted. “An hour, maybe two, and we can save you. It’s a bit easier for your synth body to deal with, but it’s still not a good idea."

I stayed up way too late reading this book because I couldn't put it down. Totally worth it.

In this final book in PR Adams's "Elite Response Force" series, the three-part transhumanism arc comes to a close as Colonel Lonny Meyers, Private Becky Starling, and Sergeant John McNutt struggle to confront the artificial intelligence forces they've been sent to destroy. With them is Intelligence Bureau Agent Dana Kliegshoen, who continues to appear to have her own agenda and may be working cross-purposes to the ERF team's best interest.

I really enjoy both the military sci-fi and the transhumanist genres, and this story has both. As with earlier books in the Rimes and ERF series, Adams once again crafts a thrilling, chilling, believable world in which his protagonist struggle. His characters live and breathe, his tech stands on its own, and the pace kept me at the edge of my seat. It was also fun and surprising to see the return of old friends I didn't expect to see again!

I hope Adams returns to these characters again in the future because I've really come to enjoy them - especially Becky Starling.
