Collection of short stories by great Indian authors of all time. The stories will remind you the stories children are taught in their school days in their course books. The editing was not good as it contained too many spelling/grammatical errors. If you want a book so that you can recite small little stories to them with morals. you can pick this up.

This book is a collection of short stories from some of our legendary Indian master storytellers Munshi Premchand, Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, and a bunch of small stories from The Ramayana. I found them very interesting, but I felt the stories from The Ramayana were out of place among the other stories. The publishers could have avoided them in this collection. Also, from the book's quality perspective, so many spelling mistakes are there. Apart from these, this is a beautiful collection for a short story lover. The book includes the following stories.

Munshi Premchand:
1. Idgah (The Festival of Eid)
2. Kafan (The Shroud)
3. Boodhi Kaaki> (The Old Aunt)
4. Do Bailon Ki Katha (A Tale of Two Oxen)
5. Thakur Ka Kuan (Thakur's Well)
6. Jurmana (Penalty)
7. Mukti Marg (The Road to Salvation)
8. Poos Ki Raat (January Night)
9. Bade Bhai Saheb (Big Brother)
10. Vidhwans (Catastrophe)

Rabindranath Tagore:
1. Kabuliwallah (The Fruitseller from Kabul)
2. The Postmaster
3. The Castaway
4. Subha
5. The Hungry Stones
6. The Auspicious Vision
7. The Home Coming
8. The Patriot
9. The Child's Return
10. Once There Was a King

Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay:
The Globe of Gold

Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay:
1. Lalu
2. Devdas (only summary and an excerpt)

The Ramayana:
1. Jatayu's Sacrifice In Fight With Ravana
2. Why Did Lord Shiva Allow Mother Sati To Give Up Her Body?
3. Rama Becomes Disciple of Ravana Learning From Him On His Deathbed
4. Lord Rama Meets Shabari
5. Hanuman And The Pearl Necklace Of Mother Sita
6. Surya And Moon Desire To See Lord Rama
7. Lord Rama And Boatman Kevat!
8. Little Squirrel Who Helped Lord Ram
9. Lord Ram And The Crow
10. Sita Devi Tells Story Of Compassion To Hanuman

Among these, the stories that resonated with me the most were Idgah, Kafan, Do Bailon Ki Katha, and Thakur Ka Kuan by Munshi Premchand, and Kabuliwallah and The Postmaster by Rabindranath Tagore. These stories, with their rich characters and compelling narratives, are a testament to the timeless appeal of Indian literature.

This was in our hotel room in Jaipur for guests to read during their stay. I liked some stories more than others, and some were a little lost in translation
