Debra Webb has never let me down when looking for a good read and once again she came through....BIG TIME! I have struggled with this review because I want so much to get it right. This book is just so amazing. It is a mystery, a crime thriller and much much more! Emma Graves was only eight years old when she was found in the woods alone after wandering away from a school bus accident. Her older sister and her sisters best friend were never found. Both had walked away to find help and neither had ever returned. Twenty-five years later Emma is an acclaimed forensic anthropologist but finds herself back in her home town, looking for a place to hide and pull her life back together. Having never totally recovered from her childhood trauma and now suffering from PTSD after surviving a tragic accident, Emma finds her personal life in tatters. But Emma comes back to a town once again torn apart by the disappearance of two girls, two children once again just gone! When human remains are found deep in a cave that requires Emma’s expertise in retrieving them, the truth may just be more than anyone bargained for. Although this book is a mystery, a crime thriller, it is so much more than that. It is a study of relationships, relationships between friends and between child and mother. It is about the damage trauma brings to a young girl and the burden of survivor's guilt afterward and the struggle to cope with both. It is about perceptions, how one sees themselves inside of these relationships and how others see them. It's about looking out and looking in and how the view is different from either side. This book is a true page-turner with a mystery that will keep you guessing all the way to the end BUT it is also a character-driven book with amazing depth and emotions. This truly is a five-star read! You have outdone yourself, Ms. Webb!

In order to find peace Emma wants to know what really happened years ago.
This story was filled with so many twists and turns you have to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. A great story that will keep you engrossed from the first page and leave you guessing who the culprit is.
If you have a background in criminal law or law enforcement, you'll see holes in this story from a procedural standpoint. Notwithstanding, this is an engaging and very well-written whodunit with some nice touches from the standpoint of character development and plot fluidity. Well worth the read (or listen).
Let me first say many months ago I read a brief blip that became this book. I knew then it was going to be fantastic.
I could not put this book down, from the moment you start you are sucked in. Emma was such a great character...damaged, smart and so very determined. This story had more twists and turns than a country back road. And from the start you are compelled to know what happened, the tragedy that changed and reshaped so many.
This book has a bit of a different feel that her normal reads, it’s a mystery. But the crime happened many years ago. And while all try to move on, the darkness that they lived through never lifts, and has been suffocating them for 25 years. So many secrets, so many lies.
I cackled out loud at one particular scene. Man it was hysterical. This story was about friendship, deceit, family and a mystery that ate away at a town. This book as usual for this author was edge of your seat soooooo well written.
When You Come Back is a must read! You won’t be able to put it down, you are compelled to find out what happens all the while worrying that Emma is strong enough to deal with it all. 25 years has passed since the disappearance of Emma’s sister and best friend, and the cover up is literally mind blowing. And her best friend and current Chief...Letty is right by her side. Also I love the friendships between their moms. This is a book that you rush to finish then feel sad because it’s over.
Another epically wild ride, a book that sticks with you long after you finish. And characters that you hope to see again.
When You Come Back by Debra Webb I read and reviewed on my own. This book is the newest suspense by Debra Webb and it takes the reader on Emma Graves emotional journey when she returns home and she is forced to deal with the memories of being the only one to return when three children disappeared after a school bus accident twenty five years ago. One of the girls still missing is her older sister. Now after having a break down at work she returns home to find out that two more girls are missing and it seems like her nightmare is happening all over again. But with twist and turns in true Webb fashion the truth of what really happened twenty five years ago is uncovered and Emma and her family and friends finally gets the closure they have wanted for so long and a small town is rocked to its core. This book will have you guessing and second guessing at every turn. Webb has another book that readers will not be able to put down on her hands. When You Come Back gets five out of five stars. I was given an advanced readers copy by the publisher to read.
I'm so glad I found my way back to Debra Webb books! I used to be a huge Debra fan and some how I sort of drifted away, but I'm back!!!
I loved this book!!! The characters were awesome (even the ones I loved to hate!). There's something for everyone...murder, kidnapping, heartbreak, thrills, twists/turns, and intrigue. I have to admit I was guessing for awhile, but I can honestly say I did figure it out.
When a book grabs you from the start and evokes all of your emotions and I mean all as I laughed, cried, shouted, I had no you didn't moments and did that just happen moments, a few heart string moments, and even a couple I hate you moments, but I loved it all.
I truly hope there's more Emma, the lying priest, Letty, Helen, and Ginny books to come...PLEASE.
This book is awesome! It’s riveting from page 1 till the end. Absolutely great read. Debra Webb just gets better and better!! I thought I knew the villain but was still surprised at the end. Ten stars for this one!
Wow just Wow. This one kept me turning pages from beginning to end. One of the best books by this Author I have read to date and all of hers are good. This has an ending you don't see coming. I would recommend this book to my friends that enjoy reading suspense.
Love the way this Author keeps you enthralled from beginning to end with this Emotionally Gripping story that you do not even fathom the shocking ending to come..
Debra Webb gives us a straight up mystery this time that also includes the bond between two childhood friends and also their at times complicated relationship with their mother's.
Be totally prepared to have a lot a time to read this because you won’t to put it down! This book has so many curveballs that at the end you’re going to be left saying “no way!” Absolutely love this book!
Fantastic. This book is a really good book and you will not stop reading. It is a total page turner. Emma Graves was only 8 years old when she was in the school bus that had an accident and her sister and her friend go missing. Emma grows up to be an independent woman a forensic anthropologist. See returns home after another tragic accident, and the story continues. I really don't want to say much more except read and enjoy. I am so pleased I have been introduced to this writer, well done Debra Webb.
Debra Webb has masterly written an intriguing mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have figured it out, you find out you may not have at all.
This story explores the emotions of survivors guilt, as well as PTSD and how different people handle resentment, fear, love and loss differently. There are many revelational moments throughout the entire book.
I truly enjoyed this book! It was extremely hard to put down and is a page turner through the very end.
Debra Webb is a masterfully wonderful storyteller when it comes to mystery. Every book has you turning the pages trying to figure out The Who done it as well as actually understanding and feeling the characters created within.
This book is a definite must read if you love mysteries!
I was thrilled to have read an ARC copy of this book. What an amazing read! I have been reading Debra Webb for many years, from Harlequin Romantic Suspense through Faces of Evil and Shades of Death and this is by far my favorite book. I don't want to give anything away, but I love how the book is told from the perspective of Emma and her mother. The book releases in June...don't hesitate to read it.
Wow what a book. It was very intriguing and suspenseful. Great job Debra once again you have been the best author I know that can put out such great books.
Emma was 8 years old when her sister and her sister best friend disappear. Then there was a bad time at a dig .It all led to breakdown which sent Emma home. But it was 25 anniversary of her sisters disappearance and two more girls are missing. This has twists and turns that will keep you up until you finish. I would never have guessed the truth. Read today
I'm sorry could not wait to finish this book way to many characters at times had to go back reread to follow and understand who the person is that the author is talking about just never got into the story boring not worth the price
Debra Webb is a master at spinning a tale that is engrossing and has multiple twists and turns. You will have to be on your toes to guess the who’s the killer(s). Emma Graves is an acclaimed forensic anthropologist who is having a crisis in her personal life. Helen is her mother. This story is told by both, weaving a tale that eventually winds together. Twenty- five years in the past she and her teenage sister were in a bus accident. There were three of them on the bus and the driver. The driver had a heart attack at the wheel and lost control. Emma’s older sister Natalie and her sister’s best friend, Stacy left eight- year old Emma with the dying driver to go get help. They never returned. Scared and cold Emma left the bus to go home but soon was lost in the unfamiliar woods. Freezing cold, not knowing which way to go she huddled in the bushes to keep warm. Emma was found the next day but the disappearance of the two girls has never been solved. Emma has a meltdown when teaching her anthropology class and is hospitalized. Maybe it’s because of it being the 25th anniversary of her sister’s disappearance. That combined with the trauma of her recent experience of being trapped underground and watching her friend and coworker die before they were rescued, is haunting her. Emma returns to her hometown to try and get her life together and figure out how to handle the PTSD she is now experiencing. Letty is Emma’s best friend since childhood is now sheriff in their hometown and they renew their friendship quickly. Their mothers have been best friends forever. Supporting each other through one losing a teenage daughter and one who’s husband was blamed and ultimately killing himself. Then some cavers get lost in a collapsed cave and search and rescue is sent to get them out. As they emerged, they tell a bizarre tale of human bones being in the cave. Letty and Emma embark on a mission to discover who’s bones they are, scared they could be Natalie and Stacy. United they form a team to once and for all find out who was responsible for Natalie and Stacy’s disappearance. Clues, and cold trails are re-pursued as they lay out all the evidence available. Helen and Letty’s mother, Ginny work behind the scenes to protect the secrets they are burdened with and try to prove Letty’s father was innocent of the girl’s disappearance even with the new evidence against him. Not until the very end will you find out the truth and what really happened. Thank you, Debra Webb, for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I truly recommend this book if you like mystery, great characters you can relate too and an ending that is the final twist.
This latest novel by the inimitable Debra Webb promises to be a real blockbuster. The story is one of loss, love, trust, friendship and family relationships. When Emma Graves, a forensic anthropologist returns home after a disgraceful incident at the university where she is teaching, she has no inkling that this return trip will be more than just a visit to her mother. Her sister and a friend disappeared twenty five years earlier after a bus accident, an accident from which Emma managed to escape physically. However, her emotional and psychological trauma continues and is a vital part of this intricately woven tale. As Emma and her friend, Sheriff Letty Cotton, set out to discover the truth of the girls’ disappearance, dark and powerful forces are at work in Jackson Falls to keep the truth hidden. This novel was one that I will not soon forget because of the drama and the fact that I was quickly involved in the story myself, desiring and yet fearing the truth. Readers of psychological suspense, thrillers and mysteries will want to read this book and will definitely enjoy the web of deceit that is woven into the story and slowly unfolds. What a fantastic book that deserves multiple readings!

I love to curl of with a book from Debra Webb. Always entertaining, love the mysteries, usually things that I can't figure out and I love that.
Emma Graves, her sister Natalie and Natalie's friend, Stacy, were the only ones left on the school bus that day. The bus driver swerved, had a heart attack and wrecked the school bus. While Emma stayed with the bus driver, Natalie and Stacy were going to walk to the nearest house and get help. Hours later, when the bus driver had died and no one was coming, Emma left the us to find her sister. Emma was found the next morning, her dog had found her and stayed with her all night to keep her warm. Butt, now, Natalie and Stacy were missing.
Twenty five years later, Natalie and Stacy were never found and no one knew what might have happened to them. There was one person that the police looked at, Emma's best friends father.
Now two more girls are missing much the same way that Natalie and Stacy disappeared..Now Emma is returning home to visit her mother. Emma had a hard time in school because she was always interesting in "digging bones" She went on to become an acclaimed forensic anthropologist.
Now she is back home to heal herself. She has PTSD from being in Iraq and surviving while her friend died. Now she is having panic attacks. But is coming back home a good thing when everything is leading back to trying to solve what happened to her sister.
A really great book that just keeps you wanting to turn those pages.
from description: "Forensic Anthropologist Emma Graves knows about the dead. But can the dead help her remember why she’s still alive?
When You Are Lost…
Emma Graves was only eight years old when a tragic school bus accident shattered the rural community where she grew up. When the bus was discovered the driver was dead and Emma, her older sister and her sister’s best friend were missing."
Twenty-five years later, Emma returns home and despite her personal problems, she and her friend Letty find themselves involved in solving the old case of her missing sister. Letty also has a personal reason, her father was accused of taking the girls. They eventually realize that both Emma's mother Helen and Letty's mother Ginny have a problem with their investigation. Do Emma and Letty really want to know what happened?
There are always a lot of secrets in a community, and some of those secrets are kept even when a tragedy occurs. Emma and Letty are determined to unravel those secrets, regardless of the consequences.
As much a study of family and friend dynamics as a mystery, When You Come Back made me cheer the persistence of Emma and Letty in their efforts to discover what happened on that day twenty-five years ago.
“That's the danger in lies and secrets. Once they happen they take on a life all their own. They invade our existence, burrow in deep, winding around the truth and then it becomes impossible to separate them, to pick them apart. Slowly but surely it becomes a part of your memory, your past and your future. until someone or something unearths that place where it all started. And then you can't take it back. Can't make it go away or pretend it never happened. It seethes and grows and you cannot stop the momentum.”
On a fateful bus ride as a child with her sister Natalie and her best friend Stacy, the bus driver suffered a fatal heart attack, causing the bus to overturn in a ditch. Natalie and Stacy went to secure help and were never seen again. When older, the surviving child Emma becomes a forensic anthropologist, but is still haunted by the loss and mystery of her sister’s disappearance. She suffers a traumatic incident at one of her digs, subsequently having a mental breakdown, so she comes home to decompress only to find that 2 young girls have recently gone missing. She and her best friend Letty, now the local sherif, decide to conduct an investigation of their own, hoping to also find out what happened to Natalie and Stacy 25 years earlier. I guess I wanted something different in how this story unfolded and resolved, Yes - there was some mystery but it was not new and novel in nature.
Author : Debra Webb When You Come Back Publication date June 18, 2019 378 pages 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 📘{My thoughts}📘 What a compelling story and great read that will hold your interest from the minute you pick it up. All of the characters are so realistic .The author writes in such a way that you love the characters and can not get enough of their story. Once you open the first page it feels like you are right there beside them. I absolutely loved how the plot unfolded in this story. I was hooked from the very first page. The characters are well written - flaws and all . Honesty that is what makes them so great and so easy to love.It is filled with twists and turns that kept this reader engrossed. The characters are well defined with some you will love and others hate. Every worthwhile story needs both types of characters. Overall, I enjoyed this book very much ! I look forward to the next thrilling book that this talented author writes.

I am SO completely delighted to find author Debra Webb's novels! I'm all set for years of reading. After reading my first, Trust No One, I was impressed and hooked enough to try my second, When She Comes Back. Wow....I am officially HOOKED on Debra Webb. Her characters are wonderfully rich. You fully come to love them or hate them, as the author intended. The stories are page turners that kept me going without well into the night. The "whodunnit" parts are true mysteries that don't fully unravel until the end. I read that the author has written 160 books and am: a) AMAZED that anyone can be SO prolific EVER, but especially by an age that she appears in her jacket photo, b) IMPRESSED that she self-publishes with such success, c) GRATEFUL that she has provided so much FABULOUS reading for those of us who love mysteries and psychological thrillers, and finally d) ANXIOUS to get reading more and MORE of her work! If you enjoy such authors as Jonathan Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, Lisa Gardner, Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, Lisa Gardner (whose seminars at Brown University I SO enjoyed!), Tami Hoag and others, you should not miss the opportunity to enjoy Debra Webb. THANK you Debra!
