The school festival winds down, but everybody involved is getting wound up. With feelings flying everywhere, surely somebody might make some progress finally, right? To top it off, Akari learns some truths about herself and I see how many times I can cram the name “Io Sakisaka” into a single review!

The cynic in me thinks that Sakisaka made this story about two main couples just so she could get two major confession scenes out of a single book. I mean, in a way that’s pretty clever. It wouldn’t surprise me either - I do not always love her books, but I do think this author is an absolute master of this genre.

Last volume’s cliffhanger is defused by something as simple as, well, reality. Most rivals, or, as they are technically known, “hopeless no-chancers”, don’t offer much more than this level of interference and this one is working via a particularly skeezy (if well-intentioned, I get it, I get it) scheme.

There’s a lot of vintage Sakisaka miscommunication, exacerbated by the fact that Yuna’s come a long way but she had a really long way to go, so her confidence is still not great. But, mild spoilers here, sparks finally ignite amidst a very, very sweet sequence (nobody draws bulbous tears like this author, nobody, it’s like watching a dam threaten to break). That one split page (you’ll know it when you see it) is really good, even if it’s a touch cliche.

Once Yuna and Rio get together, it becomes clear that Yuna is stealing this volume. Her reactions are absolutely hysterical and during the amusement park section, which features a very nice lesson in honesty, she is just a force to be reckoned with. The art here just kills it.

I don’t dislike Rio and Inui, but it’s fair to say (and, in fact, repeat often in reviews) that Akari and Yuna are the emotional heart of this series. Their endearing friendship is one of the best I’ve seen across Sakisaka’s works and she has a really touching moment between them here. Those two have such a strong bond and it’s really cool to see them so reliable for one another (although watch it get shredded and/or put to the test now that I’ve said that).

Our more straightforward pairing make some progress of their own. Akari gets some harsh truths from her “friends” (I don’t care if they were right, they still seem like jerks) and her ex. We see Inui might have feelings nestled inside him. It’s certainly clearer now that Akari needs to learn to love herself before she can really get through to Inui.

We also get some incredible Ferris wheel action that might trump an actual confession for how cute it all is. I think that’s what makes Sakisaka so reliable as a mangaka - you might be dragged for miles before you get anywhere, but you know your journey is going to get rewarded eventually.

Then it all ends with one last Sakisaka-style cliffhanger that surprised even me, but shouldn’t have. It’s a classic last page reveal through and through.

3.5 stars, but the more I ruminate on this, the more I like it. This is not my favourite series of this author, as I have said, but it’s still good and when it nails those big moments it is a lot better than many similar series. After a week or two of mostly underwhelming books, it’s nice to be reminded just how strong something well-written can land.

Total Sakisaka count after the summary: 5

Tbh I’m not understanding why people hate Akari? Like I’m very confused .I honestly like akari and Inui’s relationship way more then rio and yuna. Idk maybe it’s just me … don’t get me wrong I’m loving all the characters in their own special way but some more than others

Really really really love the leads in this manga. I also enjoy how the story isn't just a love story but it hides some drama behind it. But it keeps the cute vibes as well.

"I think it's really cool that you know exactly what you want."

WOW!! Wow wow wow! Hands down best volume yet!!

I read this volume last night and just couldn’t seem to calm down enough to sit down and write a review because of how high up I was on cloud nine and for how long I was on it. SOOOO GOODDDDD!!

This series has continued to far exceed any expectations I’ve had and so deeply impressed, touched, and EXTREMELY excited by how these characters have impacted me! I honestly felt that my emotions were exploding over and over again, especially in the middle. I didn’t know how much longer I could hold my breath, lean further into my physical volume, or be on the edge of my seat! The anticipation was out of this world when I compared it to other volumes I’ve read recently!

With how the previous volume ended, I was SO worried Yuna was going to “cave” and end up dating Agatsuma. I feel SO bad for thinking that but he’s so sweet and she’s so sweet, I just didn’t know what she would do, but I should have trusted her and the person she has become. I'M SORRY YUNA!!

Once she sought out Akari and they talked, I felt so emotionally invested (well more so! I was already invested LOL!) that when she finally found the person she was looking for, I really don’t know if I could just say ONE emotion I was feeling as I felt MANY! She has come so far and I am beyond happy for her and the future that is to come! (Though what a mood she was later on in her nervousness! I FEEL YOU, YUNA! )

Going back to Akari, I seriously dislike what a character said to her! I don’t care how right she may feel this person is in what they said, they were a total jerk and had no right IMO to say what they did. I was deeply thankful that Kazu was there to comfort her later and help her see there are people in her life who are there for her no matter what. As she said at one point, she has a place where she is accepted unconditionally. I hope that truth radiates within her for a long time and helps keep her grounded in a way she never thought possible.

I LOVED the end, but I don’t like who showed up at the end! Goodness, they better not start problems for anyone because I’m just so overjoyed for these characters and how they are growing! I hope that continues! (And the romance too of course!)

“I want to be true to my feelings in the moment.”

I feel like this quote aptly captures the general theme for this volume. We see Yuna, Akari, and Rio each get the determination to voice their feelings even if it may be too late.

So, the main event in this volume is the culture festival. We have the love triangle between Agatsuma, Rio, and Yuna. This was probably my favorite aspect of the volume. However, I have mixed feelings about the inclusion of this love triangle because let’s be honest, Agatsuma had no real chance here. I wish he was more of a serious contender, but he was never on Yuna’s radar lol. Either way, the conclusion to this small conflict was cute and satisfying. I smiled so much.

On the Akari front, her middle school friends and her ex-boyfriend, Ryosuke, make a visit to the festival. However, their visit leads to Akari realizing some truths about herself that she wants to change. We really get to know more about Akari’s emotions and the things she does to protect her heart. In addition, she is able to have a moment with Inui where she allows herself to be vulnerable and honest about how she feels. The character development for Akari in this volume was really well done.

Overall, I gave this volume a 4.3, but I really did enjoy it so I will bump it up to 5 stars!
