3⭐️ | Sweet gods… but I fear I need more villain energy
Okay, I think I’ve finally worked out why this series isn’t hitting for me the way I wanted it to.
I’m a dark romance girly at heart, and these characters are… honestly? Very sweet. Endearing. Soft. And while that’s lovely in theory, it’s not quite scratching the itch I usually come to romance for. I think that’s what’s missing for me—more edge, more danger, more what is wrong with you (affectionate) energy.
Which is exactly why I keep finding myself most interested whenever Hades is on page, because he brings that villain-ish intensity that the rest of the story is kind of lacking. The tension, the darkness, the bite… that’s the flavour I want.
This book does have a lot of action, and the plot is moving… but it also started to feel a bit repetitive. Same battles, same miscommunication, same emotional beats cycling over and over. It began to drag for me, and unfortunately I feel like the series is peaking a little and sliding downhill rather than ramping up.
That said, I am committed—I’ll finish the series. I’m just really hoping book four comes in with a big redemption moment, more stakes, more intensity, and maybe a little less rinse-and-repeat.
If you love sweeter fantasy romance with action and gods, you’ll probably enjoy this more than I did. But if you’re also a dark romance menace who lives for villains… you might find yourself waiting for Hades to show up like I was.
