Prophecy Allocation #2

Hot Love Inferno

Rate this book
How twisted do you like your fairy tales?

A half-woman, half-cockroach fused in a bizarre gardening accident? That would be Mrs Jittery Twitch, dwelling in the shadows of our misdeeds. If in danger, you can call upon her help… all she asks is your soul as payment. But she’s just a legend, so no need to worry.

Barry Harris is a 28-year-old man, still living with his dear old mum in a little flat above a hairdresser. His obsession with Star Trek and the martial arts won’t help him when he’s forced out on a date.
And nobody knows about the weird string of events that’s about to put everyone’s lives in danger. A trio of samurai warriors and the strangest offer of help lead Barry on a perilous mission to save the day.

(This book is the second in the Prophecy Allocation series but works fine as a standalone read.)

Why you should read this book:

It explains revolutionary insights into the nature of reality that debunk the myth of free will (probably).
It proves the multiverse has only two parallel universes (depending on your criteria for what makes up proof).
It contains 50% extra innuendo-based gags than Book One in the series. Some of them might be considered funny (again this is relative).
The author achieved a heightened dynamic tension not found in other books. He was heavily constipated during its creation. There may be a link. The author is no way suggesting that this makes it better than every other book ever written.

Warning: The book is written in British English. All British slang terms are helpfully translated for the international reader, along with a short explanation of why British people are a little strange.

Hu? Wait, what??? 😂
This has got to be one of the weirdest and most random books I have ever read. In fact I'm still a little fuzzy on what it is I just read exactly. LOL
The writing was not bad. In fact the author comes through as very light-hearted and laid back. It is very easy to continue reading the book simply for that fact alone.
The dark humor was definitely up my alley and the author got a few chuckles out of me. So good on you Nicky! 👍🏻
There is a lot of cussing and swearing in this book but I don't really mind. I swear like a sailor myself so... yeah LOL 😋
There's also a lot of action and violence in this book but again I don't really mind because I'm a horror fanatic and those things do not bug me. But they may bother other readers.
While reading this book I constantly was looking back on it thinking "Wasn't this a Family Guy episode?" as the two seem to be cut from the same cloth. Very dark humor but also having nerd fandom and fantasy/sci-fi elements intermingled.
I wouldn't say that I really enjoyed this book but then again I didn't hate it either. I know, I honestly feel a little confused myself. My thoughts are that this is one of those books that people will either really like or they really won't like. Either way however, they will have to just read the book and figure that out for themselves with this one.
I would recommend this book to people who like dark adult comedy mixed with sci-fi and fantasy.

Synopsis: a dark humor novella that’s compiled of multiple sci-fi(ish) short stories surrounding a group of very quirky friends.

Here’s the thing, the footnotes are HILARIOUS. So much so, that I wish the rest of the novella followed the same tone and diction. There was something a bit stiff and formal about the main story writing. But when you got to the footnotes, there was an ease and freedom in the conversation that’s so authentic and relatable.

The footnotes started as explanations of 90s Cockney slang, but then they morphed into addendums to the story or full on micro-rants, which were stupidly funny.

Some favorites:
Barry’s love life rant.
Thomas Edison’s comparison to Barry (I died!)
Learning there’s a real phobia against people with beards - Pogonophobia.
And then anything that had to do with dogs and internal-dimensional Basset Hounds!

Alls to say, this strange journey I took brought along a lot of laughter. And for that, I’m very appreciative!

P.S. if you shy away from swearing, then maybe this isn’t for you.

This book is fun! So much is happening that doesn't make sense at first, but when everything aligns.... it's pretty funny. I loved the absurdity of the sci-fi parts and the gore of some horrific other parts. There are a lot of footnotes, but I didn't read them. I am not a footnotes reader, but reading some reviews I think I missed in on a part of the story.

I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Although I enjoyed the book I can't bring myself to give it four stars. This book is the second book of the Prophecy Allocation books, and although I have not read the first book, I was still able to read this book with no problems. Just a heads up for some readers this book contained lots of swears, which I was fine with but others might not be.
To start, I think I can say that this book was definitely different from other books I have read in the past and kept me intrigued throughout. I found myself enjoying the characters and their quirks, though in some spots they could have had a little more depth to them. The author utilized dark humor in places which worked nicely in spots, but in other spots, it seemed to fall short for me. (Dark humor isn't one of my favorite humor styles.) The biggest downfall I had with this book was that I found it a little confusing and random at times. I found myself in multiple spots re-reading to see if I had accidentally skipped over something but found I hadn't.
Overall I didn't love the book but also didn't hate it. For me, it is one of those books that was worth a read but wasn't a must read. I will say that it defiantly still has me wondering, what did I just read.
I think that this book would be good for those who like sci-fi and dark comedy.

“Are you a devil? Are you a witch? Judge the soul of my enemies, Mrs Jittery Twitch.”

Wow! What a strange ride. The book starts with a conversation between Barry and Brian. Then Jittery Twitch is mentioned. “Are you a devil? Are you a witch? Judge the soul of my enemies, Mrs. Jittery Twitch.” - this should be the line when someone would need her help. I read the following chapters trying to figure out when will Jittery presence be needed.

I didn’t like Barry, the main character, but I thought Molly, his mom, was hilarious. She loves metal music and watches Xena. Her cooking style is even stranger. Then we are introduced to Jo. Soon after she was kidnapped by some samurai. Without her medication, Jo has only three days to live. Barry, Molly, Merrill (Jo’s aunt), and the doctor are part of the rescue team. Will manage in time? Can Barry save her from the samurais with his ninja knowledge? Why are the ninjas attacking in the first place? And then we have the neighbor's dog. The author constantly keeps readers on their toes with some weird situations or comments, strange attacks, unexpected twists, and some graphic violence.

When I started reading I didn’t have any idea if I would enjoy it or not and I rarely feel like that about a book. The footnotes seemed at first unpractical and are slowing down the pace, but then they actually made me laugh eagerly checking the next one. The course of events in the second part of the book got my interest. The author is asking the reader to pay attention and guess who the narrator is. I have to admit. I didn’t guess it but I am not going to reveal it so you can play your own game. It was fun finding out though. Despite the dark humor and some sarcasm that I enjoyed, I felt that was something missing to the plot that would make me like it more. Or I may not be entirely the right target? Anyhow, I am glad I experienced something different, twisted and ...did I say different? :) The author’s excellent comedic writing amused me.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This book was definitely an easy read( I finished it in one sitting!) with hilarious characters and an engaging plot. Keith the basset hound added the perfect touch to all the samurais and death with his straight forward humor and his 'annoying face'. It is part of a series but that didn't matter because it was easy to find out what had happened and what was going on in this novel.

Synopsis:

Hot Love Inferno is an action packed book filled with adventure from fighting rogue Samurai, to a talking dog and drama in an illegal sex factory.

Barry is a fish finger loving gardener in his 20’s and an undercover ninja. When Samurai warriors unexpectedly turn up out of nowhere and begin to brutally chop up innocent people, it is up to Barry to use his skills to rescue his recent date Jo and his loved ones for their clutches.

Review:

When asked to review this book I was generally unsure what to expect but I was definitely intrigued to say the least. The fact that this would be a comedy left me eager to get stuck in because who doesn’t like a good comedy? Hot Love Inferno is the second book in the Prophecy Allocation Series, I didn’t read the first one but was able to read on despite due to the book being a stand alone.
Now I have finished Hot Love Inferno, I am generally finding the words to sum up this crazy, odd book. This read has got to be one of the most bizarre, random and weirdest book I have ever experienced in my reading life.

After finishing chapter one I was left feeling puzzled and not quite sure about what I had just read or how the story would develop. At the same time I loved the authors laid back tone and light heartedness that he maintained throughout.

The book was also very fast paced and as a result of this I was able to read the book in one sitting. Humour was used throughout the book and did a fantastic job at keeping the tone light during the few serious moments there was.

The footnotes were one of my favourite things about this book. They were used to translate the British Slang used, which were brilliant and funny may I add. These footnotes also definitely opened my eyes to how weird us Brits actually are. As for the British Slang, I appreciated the clever use of it and was able to relate to some of the phrases used as I often use this slang myself.

All the characters in Hot Love Inferno were definitely unique and slightly abnormal. I don’t feel I was particularly able to connect with them, but this was probably a good job and my advice for future readers is not to let yourself attach to any of them.

I generally can’t make my mind up about this book and how I feel about it. It has been a long time since a book has left me sitting on the fence. Despite not knowing what to think, I still found myself storming through the book. Despite my lack of connection to the book, I really enjoyed and appreciated the author’s wittiness and it’s evident he is a very talented writer with a fantastic sense of humour. I generally think this book would be a suitable read for any one out there who enjoys the adult humour and random story lines of programmes such as The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Undercover ninja Barry is back in a whole new adventure. Gardener by day, it’s hard for Barry to keep a lid on his secret identity, especially when enemy ninjas appear out of nowhere. Good thing Barry thinks fast on his feet. When Barry’s mum sets him up on a blind date, chaos ensues. Who knew going to the cinema could be so deadly? His date is abducted and it’s up to Barry to save her from a fate worse than death. Can Barry save the day yet again?

I loved Hot Love Inferno almost as much as I loved Escape from Samsara (book one). It’s hilarious dark humor fantasy adventure unlike anything on the market today. Barry is the typical anti-hero which only makes the reader connect with him more. The plot moves at a quick pace with plenty of ninja action and whip-smart dialogue. I read it in one sitting and highly recommend!

Perfect for fans of Terry Pratchett, Hot Love Inferno is not to be missed. Can’t wait for the next adventure!

Samurai. Ninja. Alternate world. And an absolutely bonkers of a story!

There are plenty of things that went on with this book. I cannot even begin to comprehend how I am going to compress my entire thoughts on it.

The writing was simple—it flows really well making the book quite a simple read. The pacing of the story is relatively quick, taking into account that this is a short story; however, it did not take away the curiosity and excitement in the desire to learn what is going to happen next. Additionally, this book contains footnote. It was a curious addition for the novel and gave a unique feel towards the book.

I did not get any strong connections with any of the characters. I find them entertaining but it all ended there. The main character was a wee stuffy for my liking, the villains and the sub-characters weren’t given much information of. That took away so much from the book for me. The amount of characters injected in the story is far too many for the length of the book and it was a cost that hasn’t been paid.

In conclusion, I find this book enjoyable. It wasn’t unique in its overall aspect but it did serve its purpose as a humorous novel. Some parts of it were quite difficult to catch up on and I am strongly to blame for that part—with my lack of understanding towards British comic. If you’re looking for something ridiculous to read and make your mind think of how much more absurd a story can get… then this is the right read for you !

This is book 2 of the Prophecy Allocation Series, it can be read as a stand alone. It is a Novella and the story is set in, Brighton, England, 1995.
.
This book is centred around a funny character, called, Barry, who is just plain simple, no icing on top!!
.
Barry's occupation is a gardener, he likes being a Ninja and playing with his Ninja weapons, he is a Star Trek Fan and never misses an episode, he is 28, has irritable bowel syndrome, loves fish fingers. Barry shares a flat with Molly, who is 60 and is his Mum.
.
Barry hasn't had a girlfriend for years, so his Mum sets him up with her friends niece, Joanna.... and this is where the haphazard adventures of Barry's life begins .... a trip to the cinema with Joanna, was more than thrilling.....ambushes, severed hands, ripped curtains were only tip of the iceberg.... but wait, there is more, with all the chaos Joanna is abducted. Will Barry being the gardener dig himself out of a hole? or will the bowling green be knackered forever? or is Barry, just Larry in disguise? and what can Keith the talking dog offer?
.
I absolutely loved this story, from start to finish, one has to be warned here, there was a moderate amount of "swearing" in this book, plus the mention of some "sex object things" which BOTH aren't really my thing in a book, however, it was overlooked by me, due to the fact that I knew it seemed right for the story.
.
The story has a play on "English" words (meaning, her majesty's English) and at the end of each chapter, there are footnotes, but these aren't typical footnotes, these are just as hilarious as the book itself. I caught myself on numerous occasions laughing out loud with these alone.... the explanations were just, ace.
.
At this stage, I would like to thank, Nicky Blue, for gifting me this ebook, in exchange for an honest review. This is going up to a 5 star for me, I highly recommend this funny quippy novella and I recommend it to, anyone who loves dark humour, especially for those of you who get the British humour, who like a funny book on murders and killings that's written in a way that's not offending and basically anyone who wants a bit of a laugh...... "Are you havin' a laff" Yes, you, Ray Stokes, have you read this?

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Wao, let's begin with I haven't read the first one but this one was so cool, it was super funny and it engaged me right away.

A thing that caught my attention was that he wasn't scared of anything, he wrote like he was telling someone a story it felt pretty close actually I liked that the most.

The narrator was crazy, Love it, I dunno how I will like the first book knowing he isn't the one to read it, I do hope that if there's more of this book he will stay with James.

I know want to read the first one, for me this one was a good change of pace and it was so intense and light at the same time, just hear it, it was awesome.

Loved the footnotes on the chapters, made me laugh a lot.

Hot Love Inferno, well, what can I say? It isn’t usually the type of book I would pick up and read; an inter-dimensional talking Basset Hound is a little different than my nail biting-cringe worthy thrillers. However, I was highly recommended to give it a shot!
And I’m glad I did! I found myself laughing out loud, my fellow peers glancing at me like I have two way conversations with voices in my head. I even mimicked Barry ‘body-popping’ to “I’m too sexy”. I can totally relate to a lot of the British humour and the narration is of hilarious proportions. I would recommend to anyone to read Hot Love Inferno!

It’s a second book in Prophecy Allocation series. I didn’t read first one and directly started second one as I cane across this one first. But I liked this. You can read it independently also.

I can say I can relate me with character Berry. Because Berry is in his mid twenties, lives with his mother and like Star Trek movies and always feel introvert or inferior on dates. That is related to me to certain extent.

➡️ Different plot and unique concept. I have never read book based on such concept.
➡️ Good use of vocabulary and language.
➡️ Story moves at faster pace so I like that.
➡️ Nice humour.
➡️ I loved the language use. I am always fan of British English as it has perfect sentences and decent vocabulary.
➡️ And I loved the innocent dog face on the cover. It stole my heart.
➡️ Overall good and different read.

I was quite surprised with this little novel.

Fast-paced, it is definitely gripping with tons of adventures ranging from fighting rogue Samurai, to a talking dog that travels between dimensions, and an illegal sex factory.

This was a quick but interesting read. There was something constantly happening, and there was no fluff.

I truly did enjoy this! I'd recommend a read for sure. :)

Ever seen 'Disenchantment', an animated fantasy sitcom from Netflix or 'The Simpsons'?
If you like Matt Groening's cartoons, 'Hot Love Inferno' by Nicky Blue is just the right book for you. It is basically an adult based comedy, fantasy, sf novel and contains various hilarious yet gory scenes. Somehow I imagined cartoon characters rather than real human characters throughout the whole book.

This story has abnormal characters (in a good way), weird fantasies, bloody but funny parts: All the factors for a TV-14 or R rated fantasy sitcom. Barry Harris, a 28-year-old man who is a terrible gardener, an undercover Ninja (he takes his undercover business very seriously and thinks he is so skillful- ‘I don't tell this stuff to just anyone. I do a lot of work for the secret service; black ops, that kind of thing. I’m what’s known as a prime asset, and my identity can’t be revealed— there are too many lives at stake. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a great burden, but like I say, I really can’t talk about it.’) has to rescue his date Jo and his loved ones from the Samurai warriors that appear out of nowhere and start chopping people. These Samurais are merciless, they love to slice people, capture and kill. It all depends on Barry to save the day! What a bizzare, weird story! But the way the characters are all so serious about these weird events makes it a comedy. I will not say the details for you, you will have to check them out yourself.

My favorite part was where a guy named Bertie said everything backwards for training. This is an excerpt from the book -"Did you know that in all our communication there is conscious, forward linear meaning, and backwards, unconscious, deeper meaning? Bertie is on a journey to find that" Another example where the characters are so serious about their doings, while we the readers find it ridiculous. Imagine someone saying ‘.yaw siht, yaw sihT’ for 'This way This way'. How can you not find this funny or at least giggle or smirk?

It was quite a fast read, and thanks to the funny footnotes for the British slangs (they are also hilarious- don't skip them), I had quite a laugh. Really Nicky, how about making this into an animated tv sitcom? LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN

I was offered a copy of this book for an honest review. :)

This is by far one of the strangest and funniest books I have ever read . This book has everything from older ladies who listen to heavy metal to a rioting bowls team in cable knit jumpers .

This book follows a gardener/ninja called Barry and a a handful of equally eccentric characters from the town of portslade.

When some mysterious seven foot tall samurai warriors appear in the town ( which by the way gives me hot fuzz vibes .... just with less of “the greater good” ) and a massacre rudely interrupts Barry’s date , he is left with no choice but to put his ninja skills to the test with the help of a basset hound who, quite frankly is hilarious!

The footnotes throughout this book are brilliant and some of them perfectly explain some essential english phrases and habits like Eccles cakes !!

A word of warning for those of you who aren’t a huge fan of those four letter words we all avoid saying around children , church goers, in laws . Etc this book does have a few ( ok ..... quite a few ) but if anything they add to the story perfectly .

This sci-fi comedy novella was a brilliant read and perfect for those of us who like cheeky , more adult themed humour.
I can’t wait to read more from Nicky Blue .

"Happiness? That comes and goes. It is not a destination, it is a by-product of something far greater."

Earlier this month, I received an email from an author named Nicky Blue, asking me to review his book, Hot Love Inferno. The title sounded like a romance novel and I'm not into romance novels. The last romance novel I read was the Fifty Shades of Grey and that was ages ago. But then he gave me a brief synopsis of his book and I got intrigued. I added it to my to-read list this 2019.

I finally finished reading his book, Hot Love Inferno, and the promise of comedy really exists even though sometimes it can be so graphic or violent. It's fast-paced and full of sci-fi action.

This is a story about a man named Barry, a gardener/ninja, who went on a date one night and got attacked by an unusual entity. Three (3) 7-foot Samurais had a killing spree that killed and injured 320 people. Luckily, Barry was able to escape but the Samurais' took Jo, the girl he was on a date with, with them. So, the story runs around how much Barry is willing to risk to save the girl he was supposed to be with. Ah, the stupid things we do for love.

The synopsis included a half human, half cockroach named Mrs. Jittery Twitch. I met her for only 3-minutes. That woman sure swears a lot.

I admire the author's wide vocabulary. He uses big words that made me learn something new everytime I scan through the pages of his book. His book has also 'footnotes' in it. The last time I saw a book with a footnote was when I was still diligent in attending church services. That's one of the many things that made this book different from the other books I've read.

I've had my 'ninja era' when I was like 16 or 17 years old but I'm over it now. But I still think ninjas are cool. Time Swap. Who can say no to a time swap? Also, there's a talking dog. How cool is that? Multiverse. I'm a fan of the multiverse! So humans, prepare for some intense sci-fi action!

This book is unbelievably funny. Whoever said comedy and science don't mix is a liar. The hero, Barry, can still find humor despite everything that's happening around him. And I admire him for that. I find this book really interesting, I just wished it was a little longer! I mean, more fighting scenes, more blood, more deaths. Not that 300++ is not enough. *insert winky emoji*

P.S.: Half Human, Half Cockroach. I still can't decipher how the hell that happened.

Another P.S.: I need the first book. Or the next book, please.

Gardner and marital arts expert Barry Harris lives with his headbanger mum, lusts after Jo (who sells sex toys), eats fish fingers and watches Star Trek. When a bunch of Samurai warriors appear, Barry has to draw on all his abilities to save the world (or at least the town of Portslade). And then of course, there’s Mrs Jittery Twitch…

This is the second of Nicky Blue’s Prophecy Allocation Books and like the first, it’s a bit weird. The author’s humour is wacky to say the least, while his imagination conjures up some truly bizarre scenes. This book has the added novelty of footnotes, which explain some of the more ‘British’ phrases used in the story, as well as the meaning of words such as Pognophobia (the fear of people with beards).

The only downside is that (despite the footnotes), much of the humour may be lost on anyone outside the UK. But as a firm believer in writing what you want to write, I’m not going to complain.

I was asked by the author to read and review this novella. When I saw the title I was wondering exactly what I had agreed to read. Was this going to be some kind of kinky sex book? I was relieved to find out (by reading it) that it was not. Although there are a few sex related things mentioned and a good amount of swearing in parts, it was a funny book. If you are prudish, don't read it. Otherwise, go for it. It's a quick, fun read. It took me a bit to really start to enjoy the book, but that was only because this is the first I have read of this genre. In a few parts I was thinking "what?" Then I quickly caught on. It fits into a lot off categories: humor, humorous fiction, dark comedy, time travel, etc. So many weird things happen and the characters acknowledge them, but just go about their business. (Which is part of the humor) I don't want to mention specific things so I don't spoil it. One of the parts that I remember made me laugh out loud was the comment "Oh, why the long face?" I'm still smiling now thinking about it. My favorite character? Definitely Keith. Who is probably not who you think he is. 😉

Hot Love Inferno by Nicky Blue is a dark humor novella! Samurai by night, Gardener by day!!!
This was an interesting read. Different from any book I have read. I truly appreciated the humor through the book. I was half way through before I realized it was a sequel to The Prophecy Allocation series but it is also a standalone. It is action packed and full of surprises. A little spoiler here.... when Barry's girl was kidnapped on their first date, that was a huge shocker, Barry had to use his secret samurai skills to rescue her. As intense as the situation was I found myself laughing through till the end.
It's fast paced and full of intriguing moments. It contains a lot of British slang but not to worry, the author provided footnotes at the end of each chapter to help you through.
You might run into a word like 'fag' that'd make you lose your wits but it means something completely different in the British urban dictionary.

Highly recommended!

I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.

This was honestly one of the weirdest and craziest books I've ever read--and I mean that in the best way. Mr. Blue has an incredible sense of humor and quite possibly the most unique "voice" I've read. My favorite part of this book was the footnotes. Talk about laugh-out-loud funny!

This book was such a bizarre, fast paced read. Of course you can tell that by the description: A legend of a half woman, half cockroach fusion named Jittery Twitch that will take care of your enemies in exchange for your soul that may or may not be true. A 28-year-old man named Barry is forced on a date and gets a lot more than he bargains for as very strange events start happening involving a trio of samurai warriors and a lot of death and destruction and sexual innuendo. Put all that together with some interesting and often times humorous annotations from the mysterious narrator, you have a very interesting, strange book.
The story itself was very fast paced. If it wasn't for the holiday season and work I probably could have read this in one sitting. As soon as the book starts you just hit the ground running and it doesn't stop until the very end, or the beginning depending on how you look at it.
I did laugh a few times, although I didn't find the story as funny as I thought I might. When I first started I was expecting something like Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens or Douglas Addams' Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy, both books I loved. The humor in this book reminded me some of that type of humor - sarcastic, dark, and British (all of them are British authors so that makes sense). But sometimes humor is odd, it hits you or it doesn't and sometimes I don't get all of the references or the jokes. But I can see how others would think this was funny and so if you like the authors or stories I've referenced above there is a very good chance that you'd love this book.
I was asked to review this book by the author, Nicky Blue. I appreciate him giving me this opportunity to read a book I might not have thought to pick up.

I received a free copy of Hot Love Inferno in exchange for an honest review.

Where to begin? Ha. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading this book, but I was absolutely pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the juxtaposition between the mundane (gardening and fish fingers anyone?) and the fantastical (samurais and curses). All of the characters were very relatable and made me want to keep reading to learn out they would get themselves out of their messes (even though they were mostly not of their own making). If I could say one thing about it - is that it makes no sense, until it does. If you enjoy a bit of mystery and fantasy with your mundane, definitely pick up this book.

I did figure out the narrator before Chapter 10 (I think I figured it out by Chapter 3) and I’m looking forward to my candlelit dinner.

It was fun. Little bit strange. Hard to read becouse English isn't my language. Specialy with jokes, It was complicated to me. But it was unique book. I have never red something like that before.

This is the second book in the Prophecy Allocation series. A short and quick read, it can be finished in one sitting. And I think if you do choose to pick it up, you wouldn't be able to leave it unfinished. The book, I think can best be categorised as fantasy fiction. I had to stop mid way to wrap my head around what was happening because the story unfolds into the really bizarre. Even in fantasy fiction, I have not read a book that is so fast paced. On top of the pace, it is also humorous.
