He has held previous academic appointments at the University of Cambridge, University of London, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Adelaide and Macquarie University. His research interests are in the fields of cosmology, quantum field theory, and astrobiology. He has proposed that a one-way trip to Mars could be a viable option.
In 2005, he took up the chair of the SETI: Post-Detection Science and Technology Taskgroup of the International Academy of Astronautics.

This was a great book. We cannot surely know for sure which the end of the universe will be yet, but Paul Davies does a great job explaining the possible scenarios and describing the processes behind them. Of course, by reading so many science books, some ideas were repeated, for exemple a great deal of stuff explained by Stephen Hawking în his books, but the book is well structured and follows a good path în logic. The author manages to explain very well some quantum principles (Heisenberg uncertainity principle, quantum tunnelling, etc), elementary black hole theory ( for ex. Hawking radiation), or baby universes.

فکر نمیکنم امتیاز دادن به یه کتاب علمی خیلی راحت و یا درست باشه
امتیاز من به قسمت علمی موحود در کتاب یا دانش نویسنده نیست.
این یه کتاب کم حجم بود که به سختی تمومش کردم چون برام جذابیتی نداشت
موضوع رو دوست داشتم ولی احساس میکنم نویسنده علمشو خیلی سخت انتقال میده و خواننده معمولی نمیتونه خیلی جذب شه.
کتاب های علمی خیلی بهتری خوندم که هم بار علمی خوبی داشتن و هم برای یه خواننده معمولی جذابیت داشتن.
ولی خب کتاب، کتاب بدی نیست

Пол Дейвис е английски физик и писател, популяризатор на науката. Известен е с интересите в областта на теоретичната физика, космологията и астробиологията, както и с изследванията си на квантовата теория на полето в изкривеното пространство-време (QFTCS). Написал е над 30 научно популярни книги в областта на физиката и космологията, но на български е преведена единствено "Последните три минути". Заглавието е препратка към книгата "Първите три минути" на нобеловия лауреат Стивън Уайнбърг от 1977, и издадена на български през 1984. “Последните три минути” се занимава с темите, които вече са разгледани както в Първите три минути, така също и в "Кратка история на времето" на Стивън Хокинг: революционните открития през последното столетие, големия взрив, разширяващата се вселена, черните дупки, и евентуалната топлинна смърт на вселената. Като цяло, книгата е увлекателна и подходяща за хора без особени познания по физика и космология.

تحتاج لإعادة تنسيق عقلك لتستوعب. يصعب علينا فهم الارقام الفلكية، نحن لا نفهم حتى مامدى ضخامة ثمان الدقائق الضوئية التي تفصلنا عن الشمس، المسافة التي هي لا شيء نسبيا. لم تصمم أدمغتنا للتعامل مع الحدود القصوى هذه .
يأتي هذا الكتاب ليحدثك عن نهاية الزمن، عن الكون كله بأكبر مقياس ممكن .

ويفترض أن تكمل حياتك بطبيعية بعد أن تعرف
هل تتخيل، الكون كله، الزمان والمكان كله؟!
المجرات والشموس والكواكب والبشر التافهون
بول ديفيز اتبع أسلوبا حكيما في كتابه. في قص حكاية نهاية الكون. في البداية يقتصر على البشر، يحتمل أن تنتهي الحياة على الأرض بنيزك يضربها في القرن الثاني والعشرين. وستكون حادثة روتينية إلى حد بعيد للكوكب.
هذا قاس! أن تفنى الحياة ويستمر الكون كأن شيئا لم يكن! لكن هذا ما سيحدث في الحقيقة..
بعد الحياة يأتي دور كوكب الأرض نفسه. ستبتلعه الشمس يوما، عندما تصير عملاقا أحمر.
يحدثنا بول ديفيز عن نهاية النجوم الرومانسية بكل ما فيها من عنف.
نرتبط بالنجوم برباط أبدي، كم هو شاعري أن ما فينا من عناصر تعود الى النجوم، إلا يدغدغك التفكير بذلك؟
في موت النجوم هناك نهاية للزمن، النجوم التي تتحول لثقوب سوداء تمتلك تلك القدرة العجيبة على إيقاف الزمن وابتلاع المكان بشكل مخيف.
ثلاث دقائق أخيرة يعيشها رائد الفضاء المسكين الساقط في ثقب أسود، لينتقل من أفق الحدث الى متفردة الثقب الأسود. من المؤسف أنه سيكون ميتا قبل أن يرى النهاية. ماذا يعني أن ينتهي الزمكان في نقطة؟ من الصعب تصور ذلك.
سيأتي وقت تغيب فيه النجوم خارج درب التبانة من سماء الليل، بسبب تمدد الكون. ويأتي بشر لا دليل مادي لديهم على وجود مجرات أخرى في الكون، لكن هذا بعد زمن طويل جدا.
تسقط النجوم في مراكز مجراتها، ثم تتكون ثقوب سوداء عظمى. ذات شهية مفتوحة. عصر الثقوب السوداء يستمر لفترة طويلة، تتجاذب فيه ويسقط بعضها في بعض لتكون ثقوبا أكبر ثم تفنى في رقصة أبدية محمومة.
ثم يكبرديفيز المقياس لنصل الى مصير الكون نفسه. يقول أن الكون سيظل إلى الأبد، في حالة من الموت الحراري. مصير الكون ليس هو الأبدية بل الموت الأبدي. الفراغ الهائل من العمليات الحرارية الممتد الى زمن طويل جدا ليس فيه إلا بروتونات ونيوترونات لاتشكل شيئا.
هذه من أكثر الصور حزنا للكون، بعد كل تلك الحيوية والعنفوان أيعقل أن يعيش ببؤس ورتابة؟
وهكذا سيكون العالم في المستقبل البعيد سحابة مخففة لا يمكن تصورها من الفوتونات، والنيوترونات، وعدد متضائل من الالكترونات والبوزيترونات، كلها تتحرك ببطء متباعدة عن بعضها أكثر فأكثر. وعلى حد علمنا، فلن تحدث أبدا عمليات فيزيائية أساسية، ولن تقع حادثة مهمة تعطل الجذب الكئيب للكون الذي يتابع شوطه مع أنه ما زال يواجه حياة سرمدية- ربما يكون الوصف أفضل لو قلنا موتا أبديا.
وبينما تشلني الصدمة والحزن على النهاية المفجعة للكون، ينبري بول ديفيز لمناقشة مصير البشرية في الزمن الطويل جدا. لكنه دائما لا يتكلم بما لا يعرف، يخبرك أننا قط لن نتمكن من تصور حياة كائنات عاقلة تخلفنا ببلايين السنين، لا أحد يمكنه تصور كيف تكون الحياة حينها. لكن في أزمنة أقل بعدا، يصعب أن تستمر الحياة الذكية من خلال أجساد آدمية، على الأغلب ستتحول لنماذج سيليكونية شاذة.، تطوف بين الكواكب وبين المجرات، وتخزن وعيها بطرق عجيبة.
يأخذ ديفيز نفسا عميقا، ثم يقول أن استمرار الحياة العاقلة قد يكون ممكنا إلى أبعد مما نتصور، لكنه يؤسفني أن اخبرك أيها العزيز أنها محكوم عليها بقوانين الطبيعة التي لا ترحم، بالزوال ككل ما في الكون.
الانسحاق الكبير كما نفهمه، ليس فقط نهاية المادة، انه نهاية كل شيء. وبما أن الزمن نفسه يتوقف عند الانسحاق الكبير، فلا معنى أن نسأل عما يحدث بعد ذلك، تماما كما هو لا معنى أن نسأل ماذا حدث قبل الانفجار الكبير. ليس هناك "بعد" إطلاقا بالنسبة لأي شيء يحدث- لازمن حتى بالنسبة للافاعلية ولا مكان للفراغ. وكون يأتي من عدم في الانفجار الكبير سوف يتلاشى إلى عدم في الانسحاق الكبير، وبعض من العدد الضخم المجيد غير المحدود من سنوات وجوده لا يشكل ولو ذكرى.
ثم كنوع من التعزية، يخصص الفصل الأخير لمناقشة "تناسخ الأكوان" على شاكلة تناسخ الأرواح. نكتشف أنها فرضية ضعيفة ولا يمكن إيجاد دليل عليها. للأسف.
ويختم الكتاب بتساؤل عن المعنى، أهناك غرض لوجود الكون؟
لا.
إن كان هناك غرض ما للكون، فيجب أن ينتهي الكون عند تحققه، إذ لن يكون لوجوده معنى ومبرر، ونأمل أن يتمكن البشر من معرفته قبل النهاية.
لكن إن كان وجود الكون سرمديا، فمعناه أن لا غرض هناك للكون.
هذا كتاب رائع، لكنه ليس بسيطا، واجهت صعوبة كيف أواكبه، دعتني لإعادة قراءته حتى أفهم الصورة كاملة.
نحتاج لدراسة الكون بين فترة وأخرى، لإعادة التوازن لنفسنا وكي لايغرنا وجودنا التافه. نحن لاشيء في الحقيقة، يتحكم بنا ألف متغير شرير عابث. كائنات هشة على كوكب هش. ولم نكتشف الكون إلا البارحة.

أثبتت نظرية الانفجار العظيم في ستينات القرن الماضي أن الكون له بداية، أي أنها هدمت تصورات كثير من الفلاسفة والعلماء منذ فجر البشرية عن كون أزلي ثابت لا بداية له. من بين هؤلاء العلماء أينشتاين الذي لم يصدق نفسه حينما شرح له العالم الفلكي إدوين هابل في ١٩٣١ كيف اكتشف أن المجرات تتباعد عن بعضها مما يؤكد أن الكون يتمدد وليس ثابتاً. وإذا أعدنا تشغيل المشهد إلى الوراء، سنجد أنه منذ قرابة ١٤ مليار سنة كانت المجرات تتكتل في نقطة فريدة، انفجرت محدثة "الانفجار العظيم". ما يؤكده بول ديفيز كاتب هذا الكتاب، أنه لا يمكن أن نهمل حقيقة أن ما يمكن أن يأتي للوجود، يمكن أن يتوقف أيضاً عن الوجود.
يأخذنا ديفيز على مدار فصول هذه الكتاب في رحلة ممتعة لمحاولة الإجابة عن هذا السؤال الصعب: كيف سينتهي الكون؟

من ناحية أخرى، على مدار الكتاب ستشعر أن خلايا مخك تكافح لتستوعب حجم الكون. فمجرتنا درب التبانة تؤوي حوالي مئة بليون (بالباء) نجم، وعدد مجرات الكون نفسه يصل لنحو مئتي بليون مجرة (بالباء أيضاً) (تحديث: مؤخراً قرأت أن العدد وصل لتريليون)! وأقرب مجرة لنا، أندروميدا، تقع على مسافة ٢ مليون سنة ضوئية أي أن الضوء أسرع مخلوق في الكون يحتاج ل ٢ مليون سنة ليعبر المسافة من أندروميدا لمجرتنا! لكن الذي سيدهشك أكثر أننا حتى أوائل القرن الماضي كنا نعتقد أن كونَنا يتكون من مجرتنا فحسب!
ومن الحقائق المدهشة أيضاً أنه عند انفجار نجم ذو كتلة متوسطة أو عالية (سوبرنوفا) فإن انفجاره يعني موته إلا أن له سمة الخلق، فالانبعاث الهائل للطاقة يعمل على تسخين طبقته الخارجية وبعد فترة وجيزة تبدأ تفاعلات نووية من نوع آخر تمتص الطاقة لتنتج العناصر الثقيلة مثل الرصاص، والذهب واليورانيوم، تُطبخ في هذا الفرن النجمي. هذه العناصر مع العناصر الأخف التي تم تخليقها في مراحل مبكرة مثل الكربون والأوكسجين، تنفجر بعنف في الفضاء وتمتزج بحطام عدد لا يحصى من السوبرنوفات الأخرى، وعلى مدار دهور متعاقبة، تتجمع هذه العناصر لتكون الكواكب. فكل العناصر على كوكبنا تدين بوجودها إلى سكرات موت نجوم تلاشت تماما قبل أن توجد شمسنا، وكذلك كل ذرة في أجسامنا أصلها رماد نووي لتلك النجوم المندثرة. وبقليل من التأمل، ستدرك أن حقيقة وجود الأرض "تتطلب" أن يكون الكون كبير الحجم والسن، فهكذا شاء الله أن تمر بلايين السنين ليخرج كوكبنا إلى الوجود.
أصعب أجزاء الكتاب كانت تلك التي تتعرض لفيزياء الكم وفيزياء الجسيمات لأنها تتناول العالم دون الذري الذي يصعب تخيله، وجدت نفسي حائرة في فهم المقصود من الجسيمات الحقيقية والتقديرية والفراغ الزائف والحقيقي، ولا أزعم أنني فهمت، لكنها بداية لبحث جديد عن كتاب ممتع قادم.
وفي النهاية جاءت خاتمة الكتب على هذا الشكل وهي تستدعي التأمل: "إذا كان هناك هدف للكون، وقد حقق هذا الهدف، حينئذ يجب أن ينتهي الكون، حيث لا يكون لاستمراره هدف أو مبرر. وعلى العكس، إذا ظل الكون ثابتاً للأبد، فمن الصعب تخيل أن هناك هدف نهائي للكون على الإطلاق". وهكذا، تراءت أمامي هذه الآية الكريمة مع آخر صفحات الكتاب: "وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ" (16) - سورة الأنبياء.

This book repeats several familiar cosmological themes: there was no time before the Big Bang, the Big Bang is the origin of space, space stretches through time, and this stretching continues through eternity, or until it begins to collapse back on itself through gravitational attraction (Big Crunch). For the lay person, understanding is feeble, even though there is great appreciation for all the cosmic mystery and majesty, and many key questions are left unclear. For example, the author says that energy (light) has mass and therefore has gravitational attraction, but there's also a hint that space, constituted by mass, is subject to gravitational pull, and that light is curved because it rides through (on) space (as opposed to light itself having mass that is subject to gravitational pull).
Somehow in this zillion-year cosmological history, Davies offers the possibility of human survival, which strikes the reader as more a secular aspiration for eternal life than as reasoned conjecture. Davies also shuts down any question about whether time and space existed prior to the Big Bang. At an intuitive level, one gets his point, but the question still seems so, so legitimate. The most disappointing part of this book is his discussion of the tension between order and disorder (entropy), with the latter the ultimate victor in cosmic time. "Order" he says is "information" as if the meaning is self-evident. Typically, information is understood as the "meaning" an organic body takes from its environment. Whether an exchange of "meaning" occurs between inorganic bodies (e.g., via electromagnetic forces, gravitons) when they influence each other is left unclear. It's not easy for a layperson to venture into cosmology.

ENGLISH: This book on popular science is a little behind the times, as it talks about cosmology and predates the standard cosmological model, but it explains very well the situation, as it was in 1994 (the year the book was published), and many of the things it says are still valid today.
This thing it says is interesting: that the Big Bang theory by Lemaître (whom Davies does not name) should have been accepted long before its two surprisingly accurate predictions gave it a boost, because there is another argument supporting it, that scientists of the 19th century should have noticed, but didn't: if the universe were infinitely old, it would have died by now. It is evident that something that moves to a stop at a finite rate cannot have existed from all eternity. In other words, the universe must have come into existence a certain time ago, a finite time.
However, he makes some mistakes. For example: he ignores the difference between eternity and perpetuity, which has been solved, from a philosophical point of view, for more than a millennium. And there is a major flaw when he says that the radius of the visible universe is 15 billion light-years, because he does not take into account the expansion of the universe. The correct radius is about 43 billion light-years.

For us realists, this is a book designed to satisfy. What is all this lust for gadgetry and technology lately? In this unique book, the straight dope is dispensed: our planet will one day die; our sun and moon will one day collapse. The Milky Way galaxy too, has a 'lifespan'. So do all the stars. The universe itself in no way, lasts 'forever'...there is no 'eternity'. And there's nothing anyone can do about this.
Everything comes to an end somehow. This book steps way up above it all to look down at the universe with a cold, candid, unafraid eye and tells us (no sugar-coating) where everything is ultimately headed. Death.
Its well-written and engaging; also succinct. Each aspect of the manner in which galaxies, solar systems, space, time, energy, matter; the universe itself--EVERYTHING--must at some point, dwindle and expire--is described with dexterity.
And its great. Freeing. Knowledge is power; its better to 'know' than to 'not know'. Can really put you at ease and at peace. (the way I see it, the moral of the story here is to party it up!)

I’m afraid I didn’t enjoy this as much as other Paul Davies books I’ve read, albeit it’s well written and as usual he manages to explain complex concepts in an understandable way.
The tag line to the book is “conjectures about the ultimate fate of the universe” and that accurately describes its content. Much of the time we jump from one possibility to another, which again is understandable as there isn’t yet enough evidence to conclude what the universe’s ultimate fate will be. Unfortunately though I felt the “conjecture” was pushed beyond the extremes and became almost fantasy rather than science.

هذا الكتاب جيّد حقًا؛
يتضمّن وصف لاحتمالات نهاية الكون، ليس فقط تعداد لهذه الاحتمالات، وإنما يعرّج على شرح للمفاهيم المتضمنة بهذه الاحتمالات،
كالثقوب السوداء، النجوم النيوترونية، السوبر نوفا، الأقزام البيضاء، والعملاقة الحمراء والزرقاء، غزو البشر للفضاء الفضاء.
ويشير إلى الكثير من التنبؤات العلميّة التي تحقق معظمعها تجريبيًا اليوم، كالأمواج الثقاليّة، تأثير هوكينج، تأثير العدسات الثقاليّة (حرف الأجسام كبييرة الكتلة للضوء)، وبالطبع للطاقة والمادة المظلمة.
يطرح قضيتين رئيسيتين؛ ماذا لو تمدد الكون إلى ما لانهاية، وماذا لو توقف عن التمدد وبدأ بالانكماش والانهيار؟
فيه القليل من المعلومات التي باتت قديمة، لكنه جيد عمومًا.

Beberapa bab agak nge-lag proses membacanya karena banyaknya istilah fisika dan angka-angka dengan pangkat sampai 10 juta, tetapi intinya
1. alam semesta ini terus mengembang dan suatu saat akan mengerut kembali ke titik awal dan saat itulah kehancuran alam semesta (yang syukurlah menurut buku ini, baru akan terjadi bermiliar miliar tahun dari sekarang, tapi who knows?)
2. Ada dua gaya yang bekerja di alam semesta: gaya Termodinamika (Thermodynamic Arrow of Time) sesuai oleh hukum kedua termodinamika, yaitu bahwa entropi (ketidakteraturan) selalu meningkat. Segala sesuatu cenderung bergerak dari teratur → tidak teratur, panas mengalir dari benda panas ke benda dingin. Proses ini menjelaskan mengapa waktu terasa “maju” dan tidak bisa dibalik. Kekuatan inilah yg mendorong semesta untuk terus mengembang. Ruang itu sendiri yang mengembang, bukan galaksi bergerak di ruang kosong
Gaya satu lagi adalah daya gravitasi. Ketika sebuah benda langit bermassa besar kehabisan daya yang mendorong keluar, maka ia akan runtuh ke dalam dirinya sendiri karena tarikan gaya gravitasi. Inilah gaya yang kelak akan meruntuhkan alam semesta.
3. Kiamat menurut buku ini adalah --> Big Freeze (Kematian Panas). Skenario "kiamat" paling mungkin menurut Davies adalah alam semesta terus mengembang selamanya, tapi bintang kehabisan bahan bakar yang harus dibakar untuk mencegah ia runtuh karena gravitasinya sendiri, dan akibatnya suhu mendekati nol mutlak tidak ada energi bebas untuk menopang kehidupan. Alam semesta menjadi dingin, gelap, dan sepi.
Hal yang menarik adalah ketika Davies juga menuliskan kemungkinan kiamat yang kedua, yakni ekpansi terhenti dan seluruh alam semesta kembali ke satu titik awal sehingga sleuruh materi runtuh ke satu titik (mirip dengan proses terjadinya lubang hitamm tapi ini skala kiamat). Pertanyaannya, karena ruang dan waktu bergerak maju seiring dengan alam semesta yang mengembang, apakah waktu juga akan berbalik mundur ketika alam semesta mengerut? Mumet kan?
Jika memang demikian, semua kejadian kehidupan baik yg sudah terjadi dan akan terjadi memang benar sudah tercatat dalam sebuah kitab yang tertulis.
4. Skenario penyelamatan peradaban manusia ketika alam semesta hancur menurut buku ini bukanlah dengan pergi ke galaksi lain atau mencari planet yang baru, tetapi dengan menciptakan alam semesta baru!! Waduh, secara teori dijelaskan bagaimana membikin alam semesta baru dengan menggunakan jalur lubang hitam. Berarti memang penciptaan alam semesta itu tidak hanya sekali, tetapi diulang dan berulang-ulang.
Teorinya kurang lebih begitu, tetapi lebih lengkapnya bisa dibaca di buku ini. Maaf kalo ada yg saya keliru nangkapnya. Lumayan kerja juga baca buku ini kalo ga menguasai teori dasarnya, tapi buku ini masih bisa dipahami kok asal mau repot sambil googling ini dan itu.
"(Ingatlah) hari ketika Kami menggulung langit seperti (halnya) gulungan lembaran-lembaran catatan. Sebagaimana Kami telah memulai penciptaan pertama, begitulah Kami akan mengulanginya lagi. (Itu adalah) janji yang pasti Kami tepati. Sesungguhnya Kami akan melaksanakannya. (Al-Anbiya: 104)

There is one small chapter missing about the possible last three minutes of our world.

"So What? I lied, you mentally deranged dotard!!" the short plump guy laughed balefully.
"You maniac little rocketman. Prepare for fire and fury," screamed angrily the taller and plumper man.

And then both of them reached for the red button on their tables simultaneously.

Jokes apart, this book is really as good as any other Paul Davies book goes. It always fascinates me to read the words 'blackhole' and 'proton' in the same sentence or talks about what would happen in the millionth of second after trillion trillion years. Mere extent of scale boggles the mind.
Predicting future is a favorite activity of students of astrology and astronomy alike. Does the universe end with a big crunch or freeze itself to death? Is there a purpose to this life or life is meaningless or the meaning of life could be never found out before it ends? Hope that these questions don't come up to your mind when you are sitting alone on the banks of a big serene river, lest it would make you depressed.
Loved the concluding remarks by Davies -
"If there is a purpose to the universe, and it achieves that purpose, then the universe must end, for its continued existence would be gratuitous and pointless. Conversely, if the universe endures forever, it is hard to imagine that there is any ultimate purpose to the universe at all. So cosmic death may be the price that has to be paid for cosmic success. Perhaps the most that we can hope for is that the purpose of the universe becomes known to our descendants before the end of the last three minutes. "

اسْتُهل الكتاب بنقاش عام حول نظرية بدأ الكون والإنفجار الكبير وما الذي تلاه من نظريات علمية كونية كنظرية النسبية... لكن سرعان ما انتقل بنا پول إلى نهاية الكون وهنا أشيِّد بشدة على نظرية الإنسحاق الشديد كما أطلق عليها وكيف أن الكون سيتعرض للسحق والإنكماش بسبب قوة الجاذبية...
ولا يخفى علينا أن الكاتب حاول توضيح وتبسيط النظريات والتخمينات حتى يكون من السهل على قارئ ليس لديه خلفية كافية من العلوم الفيزيائية بشكل عام أو الكونية بشكل خاص٫ أن يستوعبها ويتخيلها ويحللها بمنظوره أيضا٫ إلا أن عرضه لذلك الكم الهائل من المعلومات والحقائق والنظريات الفيزيائية والفلكية تحتاج بطبيعة الحال إلى مختص ليفهمها. هنا لن أنسى شكر المترجم لأن له دوراً أساسياً في إيصال كل تلك المعلومات والنظريات لي كقارئة. وشكر موصول للهيئة المصرية العامة للكتاب على ما تقدمه للقارئ العربي.

I like reading science books, and I like reading about cosmology, but this book missed the target with me. The intro was engaging, and I somehow thought that the author would focus more on the possible demises for the Earth, but he moved to bigger things as the title promised, and it was .... dry.
I did find some explanations and arguments convincing and interesting and accessible even to laymen, but the scientific story of the end of the universe did not cohere in this rendition.
On the other hand, I liked how the authot addressed the questions of futility of our existence and offered a ray of hope when he introduced the concept of multiverse.
Mostl likely I would have given this book a 4 star review if I had not been listening to it while driving. Then it is truly - mea culpa.

این کتاب همانطور که از اسمش پیداست به برسی سناریوهای پایان جهان پرداخته در فصل های نخستین توضیحاتی در باب ابتدای جهان و مه بانگ ارائه نموده. به این دلیل که سه دقیقه آخر به سه دقیقه اول تنیده شده است. این کتاب را به افرادی پیشنهاد میدهم که مانند من تمایل به خواندن کتاب هایی درباره فیزیک نوین( مکانیک کوانتوم و نسیت عام و خاص) دارند اما از ریاضیات سنگین آن سر در نمی آورند ترجمه ی کتاب هم بسیار عالی صورت گرفته.

كتاب علمي ممتع، شاركتني زوجي في قرائته فزاده ذلك منزلة في القلب. يرتحل بنا بول ديفيس في عوالم بداية خلق الكون في رصد بعين الفيزيائي، فيمتع يفيد في شرح نظريات تكون الكون خاصة نظرية الانفجار العظيم.

Un clásico en su campo, el de la escatología física. Tiene las virtudes de los libros de Davies, es legible, interesante y aporta ideas interesantes. El repaso de escenarios sobre el futuro del universo es bastante completo incluso para el momento en que fue escrito, pero tiene el inconveniente de que no tiene en cuenta escenarios asociados con una expansión acelerada con una constante cosmológica, al menos con cierto detalle. No obstante, los avances científicos lo han dejado como una obra incompleta en contenidos, pero no desfasada. Y eso dice mucho de este libro. Por lo demás, es relativamente breve teniendo en cuenta la materia que trata, y apto para todos los públicos.

- الكاتب لا يعبّر عن رأيه الشخصيّ، ولا ينطلق من الإيمان القلبي أو من عدمه، بل من الفرضيات والنظريات العلميّة بتجرّد وحياد.
- يحاول الكاتب، بأسلوب مشوّق ومبسّط، أن يوصل إلى القارئ، الفيزياءَ الكونيّة الحديثة بطريقة منهجيّة مدعومة بالأمثلة.
- الكتاب يكاد يخلو من "لعنة المعرفة"، تلك اللعنة التي تلازم العلماء إذا ما أرادوا التحدّث إلى العامّة في مجالات تخصصهم.

Well, I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting, but boy! this book is full of some pretty high-end concepts and jargon. It seems like there are two scenarios that are the most likely - either the universe expands forever, in which case every star burns out and the universe is basically "dead" - or the expansion stops, and the universe contracts back to something akin to "before" the Big Bang. There are other theories as well, but it seems like these are the most generally accepted.
I guess I was looking for something more - "philosophical". This is a pretty short book, and I zipped through in a couple of days, largely because the discussions were page after page of concepts I could barely wrap my head around. This was also written in 1994, so I'm not sure where the state of this theorizing is 26 years later.

March 28, 2014السؤال الذي يجب طرحه : ما الفائده الحقيقه بعد قراءة هذا الكتاب ؟
الكتاب توقعات عن نهاية الكون ومسالة التوقعات في حد ذاتها ضعيفه الجذب لان معظم هذه النظريات غير مؤيد بالادلة العمليه ؟
الكتاب عرض لبعض الحقائق عن الفضاء مضافا اليها حقائق فيزيائية تحتاج احيانا لمتخصص ليفهمها واحيانا لا ، لكن عامة لم استفيد من الكتاب الا ادراك ان الانسان مازال عقله قاصرا عن ادراك حقائق غائبة عنه فعلا ،كما انه دليل علي ان الانسان فعلا مقيد بعقله فلا يكاد يفكر في مساله حتي يحللها طبقا لقوانينه هو المحدودة ..
لكن هناك تصورات عقدية لمسالة القيامة هي بالنسبه لي اكثر اقناعا وكثر ملامسه للنفس بالاضافه الي العرض العادل بالفعل لها
فعلا لن اكمل قراءة هذا الكتاب

يتحدث الكتاب عن الفرضيات المتوقعة لنهاية الكون بناء على نظريات بدايته المختلفة وآخر ما أمدنا به العلم من معلومات إلى حين كتابته.
الكتاب يضم أهم أساسيات الكوزمولوجيا بأسلوب مبسط وممتع. أعجبتني هذه الفقرة التي يختم ديفيز بها الفصل الأخير:
"هل يمكن أن يكون للوجود معنى إذا كان مكونًا من رحلة لا نهاية لها باتجاه جهة لا يمكن الوصول إليها؟ وإذا كان للكون غرض واستطاع تحقيقه فلا بد أن ينتهي، لأن استمرار وجوده سيكون عقيمًا، وعلى العكس.. إذا كان الكون يمكن أن يبقى إلى الأبد فمن الصعب التصور أن له هدفًا نهائيًا، ولهذا فقد يكون فناء الكون هو الثمن الذي يجب أن يدفع لنجاحه"
