When Tammy isn't working on ideas for a novel, she's spending time with family and friends or supporting her addiction to books and chocolate. She and her husband have one grown son and a spoiled golden retriever.
A great summer read! The widowed protagonist and her beloved dog move when her uncle leaves her a beach house with three cottages. She updates the cottages with the help of a new friend, and enjoys the company of the local veterinarian. She agrees to train a golden retriever puppy as a service dog for the hearing impaired. There are lots of fun moments, and some heartwarming moments as Lily deals with her grief over losing her husband a year before. I’m on to read book two in this series now. 😃
Lindas Book Obsession Reviews "Beach Haven" by Tammy L. Grace
Tammy L. Grace, Author has written "Beach Haven" as the first of a brand new series.I eagerly await the other books in the series. Tammy L. Grace has written an emotional, heartwarming, delightful, entertaining, witty story about starting over, over-coming adversity, making new choices, and attitude adjustments. The Genres for this story are Fiction and Women's Fiction. The author describes her intriguing characters as helpful, thoughtful, and friendly. Some characters have their own sets of problems to work out.
Lily is no stranger to loss. Both of Lily's parents have passed away, and with the death of her husband, Lily decides to move 3,000 miles to a house and cottages she had inherited from her Uncle. Lily feels most comfortable by the ocean and the Glass Beach Cottage, and the fantastic views are so very calming. Lily's son is away at school, and this is the opportunity for Lily to heal and start to live again.
My favorite characters are the wonderful dogs, puppy and llamas. As an animal lover, who can resist the descriptions of such well-behaved and lovable animals. I appreciate that the author brings up training puppies to be hearing assistant dogs for those people who have a hearing impairment.
This is a perfect chance for Lily to meet some new helpful friends, and the people who rent the cottages are very interesting. This is a comfortable easy read, and I recommend this for those readers who enjoy stories of making life more worthwhile. In this novel, the author describes emotional support from family, friends, neighbors, and loved ones, and having hope.
Beach Haven is an endearing, warm-hearted book about starting over. I enjoyed this book so much that I was very sad when it was over! I’m so glad that this is the first book in a series! Lily is still grieving the loss of her husband when she inherits property thousands of miles from home, and sees this as a place to make a new life for herself, away from painful memories. The rest of the characters, some of them dealing with their own struggles and loss, are so charming, adding so many layers to this story. And the dogs are great characters themselves! I’m looking forward to reading more of Lily’s story!
This was a nice start to this series. It’s a quick story and kept my interest to the end. It sounds like the perfect place to vacation or move to. I enjoyed the story
Great start to a new series. Endearing, uplifting, heartwarming sweet story about starting over after a terrible loss of her killed on the duty husband. Lily, the heroine of this novel is trying to rebuild her now empty life with totally new unknown business as a host of an inherited Glass Beach Cottage. Loved how she is refilling her life with new people, close friends, animals, experiences and positivity step by step staying content and slowly healing her grief. Cyndy, the talented giftshop owner and her brother Mac, vet and widowed single dad, becoming her new best friends. Loved all other characters that came into Lily's new life even if for a couple of days. Fostering a puppy and taking in a teenage girl Mel is awesome. Everything happens for a reason, right? I definitely will read more of this series!
I really enjoyed this heartwarming read. The heroine is recovering from a terrible loss, and rebuilding her life. With the help of a new project, old and new friends, and an intriguing new neighbor, she makes a fresh start. This book was a comforting and cozy read. Look forward to more in the series from author Tammy L. Grace!
This really had potential to be great but the abrupt ending just killed it. I’m hoping for something good as it continues. The writing as well felt really robotic to me. The dialogue portions were fine but the rest just seemed....robotic.
I'm allergic to everything furry so this book, which seemed to predominantly be about interacting with golden retrievers, was not my cup of tea. I originally thought it was going to be a cozy mystery and kept looking for it to start something. When it mentioned she used to be a police officer and that her husband was killed in the line of duty, I was sure it was headed in that direction. (I believe my husband chose this one without investigating completely.)
There was just too much minutiae to keep me interested. Every pat of a dog's head, every securing of a dog into a car, the food, the feeding. the barking. It's probably great for those with fur babies, but it's not a world I can identify with.
Bodie, the pup, being trained to be an aid to those with hearing loss was an interesting topic, but the training seen in the story is basic sit and stay commands. Bodie is too young for anything more involved.
I was over 70% into the book before it seemed to deal a little more with people. A young girl, Mel, had been in the Foster Care system after the death of her parents and required a good environment like Lily's to open her up. The renters are also mentioned with some of their background stories.
I just don't need every sunrise/sunset, or every cup of tea described along with pastries and Italian food etc. I like a little more action in my stories and less description.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and found it to be all I was looking for in a new series from Tammy. The vivid descriptions of scenery leave you feeling you are right there with the characters and the characters soon become like old friends. I can't wait for the next book in this series and find what the future holds for the main characters as they find a new beginning and meet new friends along the journey.
Abandoned this one simply because I got 18% in and literally nothing of consequence had happened. The lovely main character had moved across the country to take over a small coastal resort. The narrative was a laundry list of the pleasant activities she and her dog took up, walking on the beach, shopping, cooking, getting to know quaint new neighbors, hiring handymen. It was all very pleasant and too uneventful.
MY REVIEW : 📚📙📘📗📕📚 Beach Haven is another exceptional book by Tammy Grace. What a story the author has given us. Get your tissues ready because you are fixing to go on such an emotional journey that really captures your interest right at the start. It is a story about love, loss , and starting over. But it has a much deeper meaning to each of those experiences. You will go on a journey with Lily As she faces the overwhelming task of going on after the unexpected death of her husband. Tammy Grace is such a talented writer who is able to write such realistic stories that any of us can relate to. Each character plays a role in the book even the lovable dog characters. I Felt like I knew each character personally and felt the emotions of each one. I cried so much reading Lily's story. The well developed characters made reading this book come to life. I felt a part of each conversation in each of the settings. It was as if i was standing right there every step of the way. This is such a Wonderful inspirational story. One i will not soon forget. You are quickly drawn in to Lily's story. Lily is a amazing strong woman. The pain and suffering she lives with on a daily basis is so gut-wrenching. I was reading another book when i started this one and I completely got so lost in this story that before i knew it i had read the whole book. I was absolutely drawn into this story. I finished the book from start to finish in just one day. I could not put it down. I Loved all of the characters in this story and look foward to hearing more of their stories. Lily however is a character I'll not easily forget. I love her strength, and her heart. My heart broke in a million pieces reading Lily's story. But it also inspired me. You will find this a compelling page turner, and you won’t regret spending time with Lily and her faithful 4 legged companion fritz. This is such a powerful story. It touched me so deepley. I don't think I have ever read a book that touched me in a way Tammy Grace books does. I can tell she puts her heart and soul into her writing.
I received a free copy of this book from Tammy Grace and was not required to write a review. All opinions are mine and mine alone.
This is the first book of the series. I LOVED everything about this book. It is a cozy book, but not a mystery; no one murdered in this book! The story is about a woman cop who suddenly lost her husband in the line of duty. She has difficulty coping and decides to retire which still didn’t really help. Then her widowed uncles on the West Coast passes away and leaves his beach cottage/resort to Lily. She decides to check it out and with the help of her uncle’s attorney important details are finalized and Lily and her Golden Fritz drive cross country to live in the beach cottage. There is a beautiful main cottage and three rentals. Her uncle left names of people to help her thus Lily was able to refurbish the three cottages, build a fence and outdoor inclosure for Fritz. Lily meets a shopkeeper who has an eye for decorating and helps Lily fix up the cottages and they become fast friends. Then Lily meets the brother who happens to be the local Vet. The Vet, Mac convinces to foster a pup, Brodie, in training for the hard of hearing. Fritz and Brodie become fast friends. Lily’s adult son, Kevin come to visit and help Lily with the technical area of reservations, etc and they also sight see. The book continues with tales of the various guests visiting and a young girl Mel the local chief of police and his wife ask Lily to mentor. This book is a feel good story that shows how a grieving widow survives and moves on with her life. It’s a bit of fantasy b/c how many women would sudddenly be widowed then have her widowed uncle die and leave a home and business to start a new life with the financial means to do it? Despite that, the book is delightful. I can’t wait to start book #2.
Beach Haven by Tammy L Grace is the first book in the Glass Beach Cottage series. Lily Reed is no stranger to loss. However, after the tragic death of her husband, she is desperate to escape the memories surrounding her. Leaving all she has known behind her, she decides to return to the Pacific Northwest and restore the Glass Beach Cottage that she inherited from her beloved uncle. As life by the ocean soothes her and the kindness of her new friends, she restores the Glass Beach Cottage and welcomes new guests. Along with the healing power of the sea, Lily learns she has strength and, with all the joys and sorrows of life, the best remedy for her own grief is in helping others. Beach Haven is a story of a heartbreaking loss, an unexpected inheritance and a chance for a new beginning. It is a great, fast paced and enjoyable read for a laid back afternoon. As I read, I was reminded of Ms. Grace’s Hometown Harbor series, which also takes place in the Pacific Northwest. My heart broke for Lily and I admired her decision to start fresh. The story definitely leaves it open for more adventures at the Glass Beach Cottage and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. If you enjoy small towns and new beginnings, I recommend Beach Haven.
I received an Advanced Reader e-Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. When I first started the book I wasn't sure if I would like it. I like a lot of interaction and conversation between characters. The main character Lily is a recent widow. At the beginning we are learning some things about Lily so there isn't much conversation. With her son leaving for college, when Lily inherits a house and rental cottages from her uncle, she decides that a change is just what she needs. She packs up and moves to the property she inherited. The book picks up very quick and then it's fun. I love the main character, her fur baby and her new vet. We get to meet short term characters who come to stay in the rental cottages. We meet another character, Mel who I hope we see more of. Mel's story is interesting. I did enjoy this story very much. I really like all of the characters and the setting. There are several small stories within the story. The descriptions of the beach and the cottages make me wish I could spend a few weeks at Glass Beach Cottage. I look forward to more books in this series.
Washington. Really enjoyed all the characters well written, moved along not a lot of fluff. Lilys husband is killed, she decides to move where as a child she had great memories. She inherited the house with 3 cottages. She gets there and starts work on everything. She has Wade and his son Andy who is hearing impaired working on the house and cottages. Her son comes out to help, but gets an internship in DC so he leaves. She goes through the struggles of being alone and misses her husband, but seems at peace. She takes her dog to the vet and she hits it off with him, he talks to her about fostering Brodie and train him for hearing impaired. She decides to do it if it will go to Andy. So he spends time with her, she has him for dinner when he comes to give Brodie shots. He has her to his house. She meets Cyndy, she helps her decorate the cottages she is Macs sister so they all hang out too. She is asked to house a 19 yr old girl that lost her parents and living in a shelter, she does. The girl is real quiet and untrusting. Lily breaks through to her some. She takes her to Macs to see the lamas. He takes her hand and holds it. It’s nice ya meet all her guest.
This is the first in a new series by this author, and I loved it. Retired policewoman Lily, is determined to start over after the devastating loss of her husband, Gary, also a policeman. Gary was killed in The line of duty. Looking for a fresh start Lily packs up her dog Fritzie, and makes The cross Country journey 3000 miles to Washington state. Lily decides to claim her inheritance from her aunt and uncle, a home and three guest cottages. After renovations, her son Kevin helps her develop a webpage to rent the guest houses. The various guests have interesting personalities and life stories as Lily works to establish satisfied guests and make friends in the community. She provides many amenities and snacks and beverages around the fire pit. Meanwhile Lily agrees to foster a service dog trained to help hearing impaired people. Lily also connects with 19 year old Mel, who is also struggling to rebuild her life. The book is filled with descriptive language about the beautiful ocean scenes and views
One year after the tragic death of her husband, Lily inherits her uncle's beach cottages and decides to retire from a successful career in serving and protecting the Capitol of Virginia by moving to the place she loved visiting as a child. While there, she plans to refurbish the cottages and reopen the business to tourists.
With vivid descriptions of the beach, the cottages and the nearby landmarks, I felt transported to Driftwood Bay in July, which was a nice break from the cold and snow of Ohio in January ;).
I can't forget to mention the dogs...golden retrievers, Fritz, Brodie and Sherlock...oh my heart...it's true that dogs really are a (wo)man's best friend!
Four solid stars for this first in a series of three books. I look forward to following Lily's story and checking in with the wonderful residents of Driftwood Bay!
Thank you to the author for providing a copy to read and review; all opinions are my own.
I really loved this story about Lily who had so many losses in a short period of time first her mother, Dad and her husband. She felt she was losing it. Her son Kevin who lived with her, helped her alot and their dog Fritz. They lived in the D.C, area. Her Uncle Leon left her his house and cottages in Driftwood Bay in Washington and she decided that Kevin was getting ready to go to college that she was going to move there and open the cottages up for the seasonal tourists. So she moved and Kevin went to stay until he started college. The town was friendly and she immediately made friends. Now we get to the part about getting the cottages done, the friends she makes in town and also the tourists who stay at the cottages. She spends a lot of time with the vet, Mac. adopts a dog to train to be a companion Bodie and allows a young girl, Mel to come live with her. Her new friend afe Cyndy, Donna and Jeff. A VERY GOOD READ.
A new writer for me and this first book on the series was wonderful. Lily has suffered great tragedy losing her mom in the 911 crash, with her Dad dying a few short months later. As a police officer at the Virginia capitol she's well versed on the dangers of the hobbit still Isn't prepared when her police officer husband is killed in the line of duty. When an elderly uncle leaves her the bed and breakfast cottage colony he ran with her aunt, she retires and moves across country to Washington State. With her son in college and on his own the memories were overwhelming and she felt a new start would help.
The story is one of recovery, acceptance, and opening your heart to new friends and experiences which can be daunting after a significant loss. Add in a puppy along with her own golden retriever and there's sure to shenanigans afoot. A lovely story about life, love and second chances. Looking forward to a continuation of Lily's story in book 2.
Beach Haven is an endearing, heartwarming, uplifting, delightful novel about starting over. I am so glad that this will be a series as I was not ready to leave. Many of the characters have suffered heartbreaking losses but they are marching forward in their lives. Some are even thriving. In this wonderful, closely knit, small community there are many willing to lend assistance to others. With the sound, sight, taste and smell of the ocean as a calming influence, a lot of healing takes place. There are dogs in abundance - always a plus for me. These dogs, these characters and this novel simply spoke to my heart. Several chores are now waiting for tomorrow because I had to finish this wonderful book today!
I really enjoyed this book about love, loss, starting over in a new place, becoming the owner of cottages, making new friends, helping others and having little fur friends to help comfort you. Lily is a very strong woman dealing with the loss of her policeman husband. The grief is too much so she decides to make a big move and start a new life. She inherited her Uncle’s house and cottages and this would be her new job. After renovating the cottages she is ready for her new business venture. Lily’s dog, Fritz, is her constant companion. Veterinarian Mac convinces her to foster a sweet puppy, Bodie, who is being trained to be a hearing dog for the deaf. Lily has a kind heart and always willing to help others. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
After a final devastating loss and at a crossroads in life, Lily takes advantage of an inheritance to do a total fresh start in many aspects of her life. This book touched my heart in so many ways. The descriptive writing is beautiful, flows smoothly and relaxed me as I read. A great escape even when I can't get to a beach.
Lily fosters a hearing assistance dog for training. Such great information is included. All the dogs brighten these pages. I enjoyed meeting the inn guests, even the less endearing ones. Lily is not the only character getting a fresh start or dealing with loss. All circumstances are dealt with with sensitivity and compassion.
I look forward to more by Ms Grace and in this series. I predict happy times ahead.
I had planned on an early night but couldn’t put this book down until I finished it around 3am. Like other Tammy L Grace books, this one features fascinating characters with a plot that mimics real life in the best way. Nothing is shallow or exaggerated, with the writing so easy to read as you get caught up in the relationships and dynamics of friendship and living through grief and joyful experiences. I’ve read all six books in the Hometown Harbor series, A Season for Hope and am now starting to read Killer Music. My recommendation: it’s time to read every book Tammy L Grace has written.
Lily’s life recently has been dreadful. Her mother was killed on 9/11 and her father died 6 months later. Her husband who was a police officier in a different department from Lily was ambushed on the job a year ago. The only thing keeping Lily going is her golden retriever and her son who is in college. Her uncle who had run a small place by the beach in the Pacific Ocean with three cottages has died and left the property to her. Lily moves from Richmond, Va to the small town where she begins a new life. Is she able to make the transition & become fulfilled in her new life? You will enjoy hearing what happens.
This was my 1st book by this author and it won't be my last. Lily is struggling withe the sudden loss of her husband in the line of duty and she decides that she will move to the other side of the country, to Glass Beach Cottage that she inherited. It comes with 3 other cottages, that she will need to do some work to to get them habitable and rady for running as B&B's in the summer. We see Lily making friends with those in her new community, get involved with training a hearing dog, and there maybe a romance as well. This was a really well written story, great characters and plot line. I am looking forward to book 2.
I read this on a cold, gloomy day. The descriptions of the land and water and scenery will make you want to move to this lovely little town. This is a book that gives you hope and helps you understand that you're not alone. Lily and Mel suffered similar losses and need each other and find each other when they least expected to. People often come into our lives at unexpected times and in unexpected ways. The people in this town make it feel like home. This is the first in a series of three books. All I can say is Hurry Tammy- we need more!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Again, Tammy Grace has developed a set of characters with depth and various stories in their backgrounds. It is set in an area that the descriptions make you want to see for yourself. For dog lovers, you will enjoy the descriptions of training Bodie to be a service dog for hearing. My only regret is the other books in the series are not out yet and I will have to wait to read more about Lily, Cyndy, Mac, Mel and the dogs, Fritz & Bodie.
I loved this book!! I wanted to be Lily (minus the losing her husband part). Her courage to move across the country to so many changes. I loved the characters and how Lily welcomed all who came to stay at the cottages, as friends. My favorite character, as always, the beloved golden. I could really see and feel myself in this beautiful little town. So much about her character that I adored and cannot wait to see what else awaits her in this lovely new town and life.
