When Aili Gowan's boss insisted that she project manage the creation of a new hotel in Scotland, she knew it would come with a catch. She wasn't surprised when her boss wanted a boutique sex hotel built in a crumbling Scottish castle in the middle of nowhere. She was only moderately surprised when her contactor and consulting sexologist were sexy Scottish twins. No, the real surprise was that the castle wasn't as empty as she originally thought. Aili has to battle protesting townspeople, escalating violence, and her own desires, to get the project finished and still have a job when she returned to the States. This novella is a reverse harem and contains swearing, sex and twins.
When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre. Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer. Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?
Identical twins AND ghostly apparition...ummm yes please.
The McTavish twins may look like but they are two distinct different men. Derek is the charmer and sexologist, while Harris is the quiet, stoic foreman. Together though they are so in sync it results in an unfathomable experience of mind blowing delight.
And then we have long deceased Laird of Dun Durell, a former clan leader that now haunts the premises. Normally he’s a ghostly apparition but for Aili he become corporeal in all his 17th century glory.
Expect hot sex as these three get acquainted and try out the sextination hotel Mr. Ellengrew’s commissioned and Aili develops. Along with hilarious moments that’ll bring a smile to you face...like this not so serious moment between Harris & Aili:
“So, then he could get his, er jolly roger up?” My whole body flushed with embarrassment. “Seriously? I tell you I had sex with a dead guy, and that’s all you have to ask?” He looked at me expectantly. I sighed. “Yes.” “Could he be separated from his ghostly clothes? Did he ejaculate ectoplasm? Was he corporeal the whole time?”
I absolutely love Grace McGinty's books. I love how her humour and passion come through in every chapter. I don't think I've laughed so hard at a clown comment in my life. Having a profuse fear of everything clown related, I often find it difficult to read even the word, but Grace's comedic timing is perfect. Her imagery is spectacular and her characters are loveable. Thanks for another great read.
This is the first time I've read a book like this and I enjoyed it so much! I have read lots of Reverse Harem but this is the first time there's been a ghost! It's a great fun read even though I wanted to punch certain characters a few times!
Cute and quick read. I honestly thought it was going to be a bit steamier due to the nature of the hotel that they were working on, but alas, it was not...actually, the very first time they 'play around' was really steamy and fun because they were testing out 'the product'. But after that, they didn't seem to really dive into the rooms and themes, except to say that they gave each room a shot (insert eye roll here for lack of explanation). Nonetheless, cute story, easy to read, and fun-loving.
--Rating - 3 stars - nothing too crazy happens, but certain scenes leave you unfulfilled --Steam - 4 stars - enough to be too much for some people, but not enough for me ;-) --Storyline - 3 stars - easy to follow, but could've definitely used some more --Plot Twists - 3 stars - just enough of a little twist here and there to give the story some depth --Emotional Pull - 3 stars - you won't be crying but you will feel sorry for a couple of the characters (and sub characters) at certain points --Writing - 3 stars - comfortable to read, but found myself skimming in areas --Denouement - I felt a little unfulfilled with the ending, because I thought there was a lot more that Grace could've done with the story. --Cliffhanger? - No --HEA? - Yes
First off, love this author. Second, apparently I still have a lot of her books I have not read! This book floated around her FB page and I had to read it!
It was a very unique read and gave you all of the feels. And twins!? Um, yes please!!! Lol. The FMC was in charge of getting together and in charge of a new upcoming “unique” hotel in the area where she meets brothers, contractor and sexologist Derek and Harris. The hotel/castle they are renovating also is home to local ghost! Attraction and feelings fly and then before you know it, fantasies are flying !
*Overall 5/5 (wish it was longer) *Heat? 4/5 🔥it was all good, just wanted more 😉 *First person POV of the FMC *HEA? Yes!
I’m a huge fan of this author so this was another win for me. Just a short and sweet novella with some steaminess, yum!!
Aili is sent to Scotland to oversee the renovation of an old castle that is being converted into a hotel. She quickly meets the Property Brothers, whoops, I mean twins. She meets twin brothers Harris and Derek, who are helping with the design and renovations. She also falls for a ghost named Durrell who haunts the castle. Needless to say they form a harem for Aili and share her in this “why choose” romance.
There’s a tiny story about how the town is opposed to the new hotel but it’s pretty minimal. Mostly it’s a story about how a good girl from America became enamored with 3 very sexy Scottish men❤️
I think Grace McGinty could write a shopping list and I’d read it! ❤️ this quirky novella.
This is well written, sexy and funny. Who can resist Scottish twins a ghost, all set in a crumbling castle as a RH? While this is short and sweet, it’s definitely worth the read. #sextination, I ❤️it.
Lots of raunchiness and fun times. It’s a bit different than most stories I enjoy by this author but still well written and, as I mentioned, fun. Anything with hunky Scotsmen is good, right?
I feel like a broken record by the way Grace writes female characters is just the best. They are always strong and know what they want and go for it! Aili was no exception! And we get a hot ghost which was wow! I loved this book!
Sometimes you read a novella and it just never pulls together well but not this one! Grace does such an awesome job writing a funny, heartwarming and steamy short story !
What a hot story in cold Scotland!! Romance with a little paranormal thrown in. A lot of naughty but with the right amount of nice in the storyline. Loved it.
This is a short , steamy, fun book with a highland ghost, twins and someone trying to stop them from the refurbishment of the castle to a high end kink hotel. It’s cute and I loved the ghost!
The Castles of Carnal Desires is a quick, fun, steamy, well written novella. Mystery, intrigue, with a little violence thrown in, make this such a great easy read. Oh and hot twins, sexy ghost, and it is set in Scotland. I, like Aili, would not say no!!!
This was an interesting short read. Didn’t realize how short until I got further into the book. I liked the story concept. Would have loved more from the story line. The ghost didn’t quite make sense, but not bad for a novella.
A super hot novella from one of the goddesses of Reverse Harem's - Grace McGinty. I loved this short steamy read. I am so impressed with authors that are able to suck you into a new world and capture your heart with characters in such a short story. I surely is magic.
I loved this so much. I really do wish it was a full length novel as i would love to really get to know these characters more. But this was short and sweet and i enjoyed every second.
I enjoyed this book for the location and originality. The twins were playful and banter between MC and H was interesting. The SN aspect was a little unexplained and I would have loved a bit more depth in that regard. Also the drama crisis aspect of the book could have used more explanation and character development .. it was a little abrupt. Over all it was a short fun flirty read that left me wanting to visit the Scottish highlands.

A set of twins and a ghost, plus opening a sexy hotel in a ruined castle definitely set the scene for a quick and steamy read set in Scottish Highlands. A fast paced novella that was easily devoured!
