Worth a try

I downloaded this book this morning and read it in one sitting. I can’t even remember where I first saw it. A blog maybe? It’s been the kick in the butt I needed to stop dipping my toe in the water and just jump in. If you HAVE to succeed, if you cannot possibly stay in a 9 to 5 job, give this book a try.

First of all, let me just say that this book was well-written and engaging. I enjoyed the read, and I'm glad I read it. I will likely consider checking out other titles by this author because of that. The author presents a relatable picture to what many of us feel working for someone else, particularly in this modern culture where companies very rarely take care of or exhibit loyalty to their employees like they used to. The book talks about the importance of additional sources of income and getting to the point where you are your own boss and aren't beholden to anyone else for your entire income, which can disappear at a moment's notice.

What didn't work for me so much was the sixteen "business models" that were discussed. They were little more than rough overviews of "here's how you can make money as a freelancer or self-employed worker doing this thing." While they were decent overviews, it led to a feeling of the book's premise being a little scattershot, and aimed at people who are looking to do *anything* to get out of their day jobs and start working for themselves. I prefer books that are a little more focused and deliberate in the advice they give and not just, "here's a bunch of stuff for you to consider, maybe one of them will work for you!"

Overall, this is a good book if you're looking for someone relatable to clearly explain and empathize with a situation where you want out of your day job. It's a good book if you want out of your day job and have no idea how to do it, and are open to trying a variety of different things to accomplish that goal regardless of what actual business you may find yourself in. It's not a good book if you already know what you want to do to become self-employed and self-sufficient. This may be a case where perhaps this particular book wasn't for me, because I'm not at all unclear or unfocused about how I want to make my passive income. Still, it was a good read and definitely worthwhile for anyone who truly needs some ideas about how to get a side business going.

It sure I can fire my boss

The title peaked my interest. It is a quick ready but I did not find it very helpful. I work in e-commerce so I'm familiar with the business. I find his recommendations hard to follow because the options he gives need to be backed by some kind of passion. I can't just be a blogger. There needs to be some kind of passion that makes me a blogger.

Fluff

A lot of talk and very little in the way of actionable specifics. All of the checklists are on the author's website so you have to sign up for his list

"we spend so much of our lives waiting for someone else to give us a shot"
"It’s time to stop waiting for someone else to give you a shot; it’s time to start creating your own opportunities."
Those quotes sum up the whole ethos of this book. Most people are not paid what they are worth. If you feel like that, it's time to 'fire your boss'. The problem, of course, is just how are you going to replace your income? The key to this is to start determining your future yourself, take responsibility for your life and build up an online home business.
The first part of this short book is a plea for you to take your new business seriously. Too many people 'play' at making money online. Don't do that, Jonathan implores you to regard it as a real business. After that, it is time to get down to business.
What, exactly, are you going to do? Here Jonathan gives you sixteen opportunities that you can choose to concentrate on and put into action. Don't try to do more than one. Pick one that appeals to you and focus on it until you get good at it.
The first one is, unfortunately, Blogging. I say 'unfortunately' because, personally, I would have put this way down in the list. Why? Because it takes too long to start seeing some success. And that puts a lot of people off - they lose their belief that this is going to work. Most of the others will get you somewhere faster.
This is NOT, however, a get-rich-quick book. If you're hoping for instant riches - to become a 7-figure earner overnight - forget it. Those methods don't exist. There's no 'quick fix' or 'secret' that will make you a millionaire. You have to put the work in.
Nor is this a book that says 'do this, do that' and you'll become successful. Once you've picked the basics of what you're going to do (and, yes, Jonathan shows you the elements of what each path involves) you're going to have to find out exactly how to do it. That's too much to cover in this one book, so go away and search for details, other books, training videos and so forth by using Google search.
The final chapters are another plea to committing yourself to your new path and, for goodness sake, take action. I absolutely agree. Too many people get a dream in their head but do nothing about it. Or people get started on something and then give up. Listen to what Jonathan says because he's been through it himself (and he finishes with his own story of failure and success).
Like I said, this isn't a 'how to' book. It's more of an ideas book, something to prompt you to change your life and spring into action. I've read a lot of books like this but few have been so succinct and tried so hard to push the reader out of their comfort zone. This could be the one book that finally makes you take responsibility for your own life and your own decisions and stop leaving it all up to your boss.

For many people, self-employment is a an unattainable dream. Few people enjoy waking at the crack of dawn, driving in rush-hour traffic, and slaving eight or more hours a day at a thankless job. People look at their hobbies and think, "I wish I could do this all day."

Jonathan Green is no dreamer. He's a down-to-earth guy who figured out how to succeed on his own. How did he learn? Through failure and lack of support. Rather than letting that ruin his image, it just made him stronger. Mr. Green had confidence in himself.

I've read a lot of books about starting a business, writing a blog, gaining traffic, and selling online. In every book, the author told what worked for him. Usually the method was so crystal-clear for the author that he failed to explain it. At the end of these books, I always asked myself, "Now what?"

FIRE YOUR BOSS is the first book that explained things clearly to me. It didn't give a step-by-step process to starting a business, but it gave easy to follow guidelines. The author also gives over a dozen ideas of easy business ideas that anyone can use.

I've been struggling with a business idea. This book left me with a lot of confidence. If you are thinking about starting a business or if you just want to make a few extra bucks a month, this book is a must!

You're on a journey of financial freedom and you have so many routes and paths to take. Where do you go? Where do you even start? You wish there was a roadmap to help you from being so lost in the thick of the entrepreneural jungle. Look no further.

Honestly, Fire You Boss isn't an in depth roadmap outlining specifically every single move you need to take but it sure is a handy sign that will point you in the right direction. Every journey begins with the first step. This is the first step.

Keep in mind, the chapters are short but that makes them super easy to take in. I'm personally not a big reader but I'm challenging myself to read more and I actually finished this book in a day. I'll say I spent 4-5 hours in total reading. Also, you can tell John has a lot on his mind because here and there he goes on a tangent/ramble but it's appreciated. It makes his books feel like a conversation with a teacher or even a really smart friend rather than a straight forward textbook.

All in all, I think anyone will like the book. Give it a try

I have followed Jonathan's work for a while. He has influenced much of my own writing and has caused me to start at least a mini-side hustle that is bringing home just enough for a coffee a week. At the moment I thought this was enough, but again comes another great book that inspires me to do more. I have already actioned a few of the steps in this book and am starting to see results. (I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy for review). Jonathan consistently over delivers and offers amazing tips and extras to help along the way. If you are starting to think about a side-hustle, or have one going that isn't quite breaking even (yet) then this is the book for you. I do wonder though if we all fire our bosses who will work for anyone anymore... :-) But, I'll worry about that another day when I'm sipping gin on my tropical island. Seriously though, this is an excellent book and well worth the investment of your time and money. Have fun!

Fire your Boss is a book that delivers exactly what it promises.
It provides you with a great outlook and guidelines to start building your way out of the rat race. In this book Jonathan Green covers most of the strategies you can apply to start developing alternative streams of income. Very clear and straight to the point (if you are like me and do not want to waste your time, that is fundamental in a book).
Also his strategy is very down to earth showing that you have to develop more than one way of generating passive income and not getting all excited with the begging of an entrepreneur business and then throwing your job away.
The way to fire your boss is to build a stable and secure structure that you can rely on to provide you with the resources to really live a life of financial freedom.
This book is exactly what you are looking for to get started as a entrepreneur.

Here's where I am. There's where I want to be. In this book Jonathan provides a road map to help get from here to there. He touches on the problem of thinking to make money I need to trade my time one to one. Of course, passive income is the goal and a better outcome.
The meat of the book has many options to chart your own path financially. We're all different in talents and knowledge, so a diverse list provides an opportunity for all of us (one box does not fit all). It's not meant to be an in depth study of each area, but a starting point for your journey.
Finally, he encourages us to begin - take the first steps down your path. Jonathan has provided a good resource to get where we want to be.

Fire Your Boss by Jonathan Green is a great introduction to the world of alternative sources for passive income. In his unique conversationalist style, Jonathan takes you through some easy ways to begin a second, third, or as many of these business models as you want to tackle. The book will also give you access to some awesome free resources. After reading this book, I have uncovered an interest in two potential business models that I had not considered, and now seem like the perfect starting place for me. Find out which business models you can begin targeting based on your knowledge and experience. Finally, it is a pretty easy read that you can do on a Sunday afternoon.

Like many self-published books, this is more like a long pamphlet than a real book. The first thing to know is that the author churns out self-published books for a living. That said, I gave it three stars because, first, this is a freebie that that is intended to whet your appetite for his other books, and I understood that from the outset. Secondly and more importantly, he does give a significant amount of information about sixteen or so possible ways to make passive income - all are internet/digital related - and he gives enough information in this book to understand the concepts behind each. To an "old" like me, some of these were entirely new and interesting concepts.

I'm not firing my boss, I just retired, but I am investigating ways to make some extra income during retirement and I will look more closely at his suggestions. Heck, I might even buy another one of his books!

What I liked best about this book is its structure. Jonathan has arranged each topic in a separate chapter and this means you don't have to read the full book to get full value. You can read the chapters that are relevant to you first and then the rest of the book. I found the chapters on copywriting and commitment the most useful and got some valuable action steps from them. I got some valuable insights from the other chapters too.

I just can't drop the impression I got of Jonathan Green being a hustler or a con artist. Of course the name of the book got my attention but that's what the whole book seems to be about. Some people may be inspired when someone brags about how many deals he has going on, how much money he's making, having made so much money he now lives on an Asian tropical island, that he's so busy he has to broker his work out to people for less money... But to me I hear hustler, someone recycling info into books with his name on them.
If something is too good to be true it most often is.
I find it horrible to teach someone to sale a service and use the money received in advance to learn how to provide the service already sold or to get someone else to do it for you. That's just mediocre work.

Can't wait to start

Reading Mr. Greens book into the wee hours has made me too excited to sleep! I am my own boss and I also trade way too many hours of my time chasing "the dream". This book gives me hope that even old dogs can learn new systems by followng a consistent plan. Do yourself the biggest favor. Read this book....join the FB group....commit consistent time and then look for your own island escape.

Worth the read

There were some ideas in this book that I had never considered before that gave me room for thought. I also liked the relatability of the author. When you read this book you just feel like you are having a one on one conversation at coffee with a friend. Jonathan Green writes in a relatable way that anyone can appreciate and I would recommend this book to Everyone.

A little more than ordinary

This book hits all the notes that many like it do. Change your life. Fire your boss. Do something amazing.
But more than that, it gives guidance on sixteen ways to do those things. It details the steps.
I haven't had a chance yet to put the tips into action, but I can tell I'll make money when I do.
I recommend it!

Great business models

I knew a lot of these models but some were of interest to me. I actually have a few of these models going now. You can start some of these models without any start up money all you need is the internet and your time. Good luck.

Jonathan's book is a real firestarter!

He gives sound, realistic, no-nonsense advice in plain language and in a friendly, helpful style that makes you believe it really *is* possible to "fire your boss" and become your own.

No, he doesn't do the work for you, nor is this some shady get-rich-quick scheme. He gives you 16 legitimate business ideas/models and the tools on how to achieve your own level(s) of success on your own terms, plus he gives you the sense he really means it and wants it for you, as he has for himself.

Highly motivating...read this book and start making your own moves to fire *your* boss!
