What if Cinderella was, in fact, a goddess, thrown from the heavens by her wicked half-sisters? In this Cinderella retelling, you'll be swept away in a fantastical world and when the clock strikes midnight blood is shed.
When Faye, the ruling goddess of Alindor, and Lady of Light, is cast from the heavens by her wicked sisters, Nymiane and Etain, she finds herself unable to tap into her powers. As if that wasn’t cruel enough, she quickly discovers that a mask has been sealed against her face, unable to be removed.
She is soon feeling panicked, but as luck would have it two good samaritans scoop her up and whisk her away to a house full of ladies. There, Faye is forced to lie about who she is and where she is from and finds herself easily making friends with her new housemates.
As things begin to settle into a new routine, no one anticipates Faye being abducted by King Zev of Melothra, or that he plans to use her as an instrument of chaos, courtesy of Nymiane, on the eve of his annual ball.
A war is about to break out and when the clock strikes midnight–who will survive?
This novella is perfect for fans of Aimee Carter's Goddess Test, Amber R. Duell's Fragile Chaos, and Marissa Meyer's Cinder.

Elle Beaumont loves creating vivid and fantastical worlds. She lives in Southeastern Massachusetts with her husband and two children. When not writing or chasing around her children, she enjoys making candles. More than once she has proclaimed that coffee is the lifeblood and it is how she refrains from becoming a zombie.
Cinderella has been cast from the heavens by her evil sister and has to learn to survive in the mortal world while blinded by a mask. Swoony men, best friends and girl power, and yes, a masquerade. For readers bored by the same old Cinderella tellings this will be a breath of fresh air. This is a completely unique retelling with references to the original that spins a fascinating tale unlike any Cinderella story you've read before. Highly recommend this quick read retelling.
What a unique take on Cinderella. I loved the whole concept of a goddess being betrayed by a jealous sister, also a goddess, and then dumped in the mortal realm after being stripped of her power. I enjoyed the characters and parts of the story were like putting together a puzzle as you receive the pieces as to how and why gradually. The world we escaped into was intriguing and would love another story set in this world to learn even more about it and its various cultures.
I've never been a fan of the Cinderella story. At least not the Disney version of it, maybe just a little too bland for my taste? But Beaumont's spin on Cinderella in Veiled Allurement brings a whole new side to the story that I LOVED, and made me appreciate the original a little more.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a great fairytale reimagining!
Beaumont's fantasy draws inspiration from: Cinderella. One of the things that I found uncomfortable reading, was the fact that Faye's mask obscured her vision(made her blind). Beaumont has difficulty describing a person with visual impairment, and it doesn't read well.
